Fixed‐carrier composite hollow‐fiber membranes were prepared with polyvinylamine (PVAm) as the selective layer and a polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane as the substrate. The effects of the PVAm concentration in the coating solution, the number of coatings, and the crosslinking of glutaraldehyde and sulfuric acid on the CO2 permeation rate and CO2/CH4 selectivity of the composite membranes were investigated. As the PVAm concentration and the number of coatings increased, the CO2/CH4 selectivity increased, but the CO2 permeation rate decreased. The membranes crosslinked by glutaraldehyde or sulfuric acid possessed higher CO2/CH4 selectivities but lower CO2 permeation rates. For the pure feed gas, a composite hollow‐fiber membrane coated with a 2 wt % PVAm solution two times and then crosslinked with glutaraldehyde and an acid solution in sequence had a CO2 permeation rate of 3.99 × 10?6 cm3 cm?2 s?1 cmHg?1 and an ideal CO2/CH4 selectivity of 206 at a feed gas pressure of 96 cmHg and 298 K. The effect of time on the performance of the membranes was also investigated. The performance stability of the membranes was good during 6 days of testing. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A Mo‐substituted lanthanum tungstate mixed proton‐electron conductor, La5.5W0.6Mo0.4O11.25?δ (LWM04), was synthesized using solid state reactions. Dense U‐shaped LWM04 hollow‐fiber membranes were successfully prepared using wet‐spinning phase‐inversion and sintering. The stability of LWM04 in a CO2‐containing atmosphere and the permeation of hydrogen through the LWM04 hollow‐fiber membrane were investigated in detail. A high hydrogen permeation flux of 1.36 mL/min cm2 was obtained for the U‐shaped LWM04 hollow‐fiber membranes at 975°C when a mixture of 80% H2?20% He was used as the feed gas and the sweep side was humidified. Moreover, the hydrogen permeation flux did not significantly decrease over 70 h of operation when fed with a mixture containing 25% CO2, 50% H2, and 25% He, indicating that the LWM04 hollow‐fiber membrane has good stability under a CO2‐containing atmosphere. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 1997–2007, 2015  相似文献

In this article, a series of diblock copolymer polyethylene‐b‐ poly(ethylene glycol)s (PE‐b‐PEGs) with various molecular weight of polyethylene segment was blended with linear low‐density PE. The PE/PE‐b‐PEG blend porous membranes with high porosity were obtained by thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process. The isothermal crystallization kinetics of PE/LP/PE‐b‐PEG blends indicated that the introduction of PE‐b‐PEG could inhibit the growth rate of polyethylene crystals which could increase the pore size and porosity of the membranes. The PE/PE‐b‐PEG blend membranes with PE1300‐b‐PEG2200 showed the largest pore size and porosity due to its crystallization behavior during TIPS. The surface of the membranes became smoother and the morphology of the membranes could be effectively tuned by introducing PE‐b‐PEG. Compared with the PE membrane, the PE/PE‐b‐PEG blend membranes exhibited higher hydrophilicity (the water contact angle decreased from 112° to 84°), water permeability (the permeation flux increased from 80 to 440 L/m2 h under 0.1 MPa), rejection performance (completely reject carbon particles in the filtration of carbon ink solution), and fouling resistance (the value of protein adsorption dropped from 0.25 to 0.05 mg/cm2). The hydrophilicity and fouling resistance of PE/PE‐b‐PEG blend membranes increased as the length of PE segment in PE‐b‐PEGs decreased. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The oxygen permeation of dense U‐shaped perovskite hollow‐fiber membranes based on Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3?δ prepared by a phase inversion spinning process is reported. The perovskite hollow fibers with totally dense wall were obtained with the outer diameter of 1.147 mm and the inner diameter of 0.691 mm. The dependences of the oxygen permeation on the air flow rate on the shell side, the helium flow rate on the core side, the oxygen partial pressures, and the operating temperatures were experimentally investigated. According to the Wagner theory, it follows that the oxygen transport through the U‐shaped hollow‐fiber membrane is controlled by both surface reaction and bulk diffusion at the temperature ranges of 750–950°C. High oxygen permeation flux of 3.0 ml/(min cm2) was kept for about 250 h at 950°C under the conditions of the air feed flow rate of 150 ml/min and the helium flow rate of 50 ml/min. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011  相似文献

The multiple types of efficient oxygen transport paths were demonstrated in high‐mechanical‐strength hepta‐bore Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3‐δ hollow fiber membranes. These types of paths play a prominent role in enhancing oxygen permeation fluxes (17.6 mL min?1 cm?2 at 1223 K) which greatly transcend the performance of state‐of‐the‐art Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3‐δ hollow fiber membranes, showing a good commercialization prospect. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 4273–4277, 2017  相似文献

In this work, hydrogen (H2) permeation fluxes through 230 nm‐thick graphene oxide (GO) membrane deposited on porous YSZ hollow fiber were measured and correlated to an explicit H2 permeation model. H2 fluxes through such GO‐YSZ hollow fiber membrane increased from 4.83 × 10?8 mol cm?2 s?1 to 2.11 × 10?7 mol cm?2 s?1 with temperature rise from 20 to 100 °C. The activation energy of H2 permeation was determined by the linear regression of the experimental data and was applied in the theoretical calculations. The model predictions fit well the temperature dependent and the argon sweep gas flow rate dependent H2 fluxes data. Using the derived permeation model, the effects of vacuum pressure at lumen side and H2 partial pressure at shell side, membrane area, and GO membrane film thickness on the membrane performance were simulated and discussed to provide insights for practical applications. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 64: 2711–2720, 2018  相似文献

Permeation properties of pure H2, N2, CH4, C2H6, and C3H8 through asymmetric polyetherimide (PEI) hollow‐fiber membranes were studied as a function of pressure and temperature. The PEI asymmetric hollow‐fiber membrane was spun from a N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone/ethanol solvent system via a dry‐wet phase‐inversion method, with water as the external coagulant and 50 wt % ethanol in water as the internal coagulant. The prepared asymmetric membrane exhibited sufficiently high selectivity (H2/N2 selectivity >50 at 25°C). H2 permeation through the PEI hollow fiber was dominated by the solution‐diffusion mechanism in the nonporous part. For CH4 and N2, the transport mechanism for gas permeation was a combination of Knudsen flow and viscous flow in the porous part and solution diffusion in the nonporous part. In our analysis, operating pressure had little effect on the permeation of H2, CH4, and N2. For C2H6 and C3H8, however, capillary condensation may have occurred at higher pressures, resulting in an increase in gas permeability. As far as the effect of operating temperature was concerned, H2 permeability increased greatly with increasing temperature. Meanwhile, a slight permeability increment with increasing temperature was noted for N2 and CH4, whereas the permeability of C2H6 and C3H8 decreased with increasing temperature. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Composite layer containing postmodified MIL‐53 (P‐MIL‐53) was exploited to be coated on as‐fabricated asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for improving gas separation performance. The morphology and pore size distribution of P‐MIL‐53 particles were characterized by SEM and N2 adsorption isotherm. The EDX mapping and FTIR spectra were performed to confirm the presence of P‐MIL‐53 deposited on the outer surface of hollow fiber membranes. The results of pure gas permeation measurement indicated that incorporation of P‐MIL‐53 particles in coating layer could improve permeation properties of hollow fiber membranes. By varying coating times and P‐MIL‐53 content, the membrane coated with PDMS/15%P‐MIL‐53 composite by three times achieved best performance. Compared to pure PDMS coated membrane, CO2 permeance was enhanced from 29.96 GPU to 40.24 GPU and ideal selectivity of CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 also increased from 23.28 and 26.95 to 28.08 and 32.03, respectively. The gas transport through composite membrane was governed by solution‐diffusion mechanism and CO2 preferential adsorption of P‐MIL‐53 contributed to considerable increase of CO2 solubility resulting in accelerated permeation rate. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of NH3‐plasma and N2‐plasma treatments on rubbery polyethylene (PE) membranes on the permeation behavior for carbon dioxide (CO2), O2, and N2 were investigated with permeability measurements. The NH3‐plasma and N2‐plasma treatments on PE membranes increased both the permeation coefficient for CO2 and the ideal separation factor for CO2 with respect to N2. For O2 transport, both the permeation coefficient for O2 and the ideal separation factor for O2 with respect to N2 were increased. NH3‐plasma and N2‐plasma treatments on polymer membranes possibly bring about an augmentation of permeability and permselectivity simultaneously. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Melt‐spinning and stretching (MS‐S) method was proposed for preparing poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes with excellent mechanical properties. The morphology and properties of PVDF fibers and membranes were investigated by small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), field emission scanning electron microscope, mercury porosimeter, and tensile experiment. SAXS results indicated that the stacked lamellar structure aligned normal to the fiber axis was separated and deformed when the fibers were strained, and the long period of the strained fibers increased accordingly. Factors affecting the membrane properties were mainly spin‐draw ratio, annealing temperature, time, and stretching rate. Experimental results showed that the average pore size, porosity, and N2 permeation of the membranes all increased with the increasing spin‐draw ratios and annealing temperatures. Annealing the nascent PVDF hollow fibers at 145°C for 12 h was suitable for attaining membranes with good performance. In addition, the amount and size of the micropores of the membrane increased obviously with stretching rate. Tensile experiment indicated PVDF hollow fiber membranes made by MS‐S process had excellent mechanical properties. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2007  相似文献

Nickel is a cheaper metallic material compared to palladium membranes for H2 separation. In this work, metallic Ni hollow fiber membranes were fabricated by a combined phase inversion and atmospheric sintering method. The morphology and membrane thickness of the hollow fibers was tuned by varying the spinning parameters like bore liquid flow rate and air gap distance. H2 permeation through the Ni hollow fibers with N2 as the sweep gas was measured under various operating conditions. A rigorous model considering temperature profiles was developed to fit the experimental data. The results show that the hydrogen permeation flux can be well described by using the Sieverts’ equation, implying that the membrane bulk diffusion is still the rate‐limiting step. The hydrogen separation rate in the Ni hollow fiber module can be improved by 4–8% when switching the co‐current flow to the countercurrent flow operation. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 3026–3034, 2017  相似文献

A number of U‐shaped K2NiF4‐type oxide hollow fiber membranes based on (Pr0.9La0.1)2(Ni0.74Cu0.21Ga0.05)O4+δ (PLNCG) were successfully prepared by a phase inversion spinning process. The PLNCG hollow fiber membranes were then used to investigate the effect of CO2 concentration in both the sweep gas and the feed air on the oxygen permeation flux. With pure CO2 as the sweep gas and even 10% CO2 in the feed air, a steady oxygen permeation flux of 0.9 mL/min·cm2 (STP) is obtained at 975°C during 310 h, and no decline of the oxygen permeation flux is observed. XRD, SEM and EDS characterizations show the spent membrane still maintains the intact microstructure and perfect K2NiF4‐type phase structure without carbonate, which indicates that the U‐shaped PLNCG hollow fiber membrane is a very stable membrane under CO2 atmosphere and has great potential for the practical application in oxyfuel techniques for CO2 capture and storage.©2011 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2012  相似文献

The U‐shaped alkaline‐earth metal‐free CO2‐stable oxide hollow‐fiber membranes based on (Pr0.9La0.1)2(Ni0.74Cu0.21Ga0.05)O4+δ (PLNCG) are prepared by a phase‐inversion spinning process and applied successfully in the partial oxidation of methane (POM) to syngas. The effects of temperature, CH4 concentration and flow rate of the feed air on CH4 conversion, CO selectivity, H2/CO ratio, and oxygen permeation flux through the PLNCG hollow‐fiber membrane are investigated in detail. The oxygen permeation flux arrives at approximately 10.5 mL/min cm2 and the CO selectivity is higher than 99.5% with a CH4 conversion of 97.0% and a H2/CO ratio of 1.8 during 140 h steady operation. The spent hollow‐fiber membrane still maintains a dense microstructure and the Ruddlesden‐Popper K2NiF4‐type structure, which indicates that the U‐shaped alkaline‐earth metal‐free CO2‐tolerant PLNCG hollow‐fiber membrane reactor can be steadily operated for POM to syngas with good performance. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 60: 3587–3595, 2014  相似文献

Polyethersulfone (PES) hollow‐fiber membranes were fabricated using poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG) with different molecular weights (MW = PEG200, PEG600, PEG2000, PEG6000, and PEG10000) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) PVP40000 as additives and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent. Asymmetric hollow‐fiber membranes were spun by a wet phase‐inversion method from 25 wt % solids of 20 : 5 : 75 (weight ratio) PES/PEG/NMP or 18 : 7 : 75 of PES/(PEG600 + PVP40000)/NMP solutions, whereas both the bore fluid and the external coagulant were water. Effects of PEG molecular weights and PEG600 concentrations in the dope solution on separation properties, morphology, and mechanical properties of PES hollow‐fiber membranes were investigated. The membrane structures of PES hollow‐fiber membranes including cross section, external surface, and internal surface were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and the mechanical properties of PES hollow‐fiber membranes were discussed. Bovine serum albumin (BSA, MW 67,000), chicken egg albumin (CEA, MW 45,000), and lysozyme (MW 14,400) were used for the measurement of rejection. It was found that with an increase of PEG molecular weights from 200 to 10,000 in the dope solution, membrane structures were changed from double‐layer fingerlike structure to voids in the shape of spheres or ellipsoids; moreover, there were crack phenomena on the internal surfaces and external surfaces of PES hollow‐fiber membranes, pure water permeation fluxes increased from 22.0 to 64.0 L m?2 h?1 bar?1, rejections of three protein for PES/PEG hollow‐fiber membranes were not significant, and changes in mechanical properties were decreased. Besides, with a decrease of PEG600 concentrations in the dope solution, permeation flux and elongation at break decreased, whereas the addition of PVP40000 in the dope solution resulted in more smooth surfaces (internal or external) of PES/(PEG600 + PVP40000) hollow‐fiber membranes than those of PES/PEG hollow‐fiber membranes. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For the purpose of separating aqueous alcohol by the use of pervaporation technique, a composite membrane of chitosan (CT) dip‐coated cellulose acetate (CA) hollow‐fiber membranes, CT‐d‐CA, was investigated. The effects of air‐gap distance in the spinning of CA hollow‐fiber membranes, chitosan concentration, and sorts of aqueous alcohol solutions on the pervaporation performances were studied. Compared with unmodified CA hollow‐fiber membrane, the CT‐d‐CA composite hollow‐fiber membrane effectively increases the permselectivity of water. The thickness of coating layer increases with an increase in chitosan concentration. As the concentration of chitosan solution increased, the permeation rate decreased and the concentration of water in the permeate increased. In addition, the effects of feed composition and feed solution temperature on the pervaporation performances were also investigated. The permeation rate and water content in permeate at 25°C for a 90 wt % aqueous isopropanol solution through the CT‐d‐CA composite hollow‐fiber membrane with a 5‐cm air‐gap distance spun, 2 wt % chitosan dip‐coated system were 169.5 g/m2 h and 98.9 wt %, respectively. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cellulose hollow fiber membranes (CHFM) were prepared using a spinning solution containing N‐methylmorpholine‐N‐oxide as solvent and water as a nonsolvent additive. Water was also used as both the internal and external coagulant. It was demonstrated that the phase separation mechanism of this system was delayed demixing. The CHFM was revealed to be homogeneously dense structure after desiccation. The gas permeation properties of CO2, N2, CH4, and H2 through CHFM were investigated as a function of membrane water content and operation pressure. The water content of CHFM had crucial influence on gas permeation performance, and the permeation rates of all gases increased sharply with the increase of membrane water content. The permeation rate of CO2 increased with the increase of operation pressure, which has no significant effect on N2, H2, and CH4. At the end of this article a detailed comparison of gas permeation performance and mechanism between the CHFM and cellulose acetate flat membrane was given. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbon hollow fiber membranes derived from polymer blend of polyetherimide and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were extensively prepared through stabilization under air atmosphere followed by carbonization under N2 atmosphere. The effects of the PVP compositions on the thermal behavior, structure, and gas permeation properties were investigated thoroughly by means of differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, X‐ray diffraction, and pure gas permeation apparatus. The experimental results indicate that the transport mechanism of small gas molecules of N2, CO2, and CH4 is dominated by the molecular sieving effect. The gas permeation properties of the prepared carbon membranes have a strong dependency on PVP composition. The carbon membranes prepared from polymer blends with 6 wt % PVP demonstrated the highest CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 selectivities of 55.33 and 41.50, respectively. © 2011 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 58: 3167–3175, 2012  相似文献

BaCe0.95Tb0.05O3?α (BCTb) perovskite hollow fibre membranes were fabricated by spinning the slurry mixture containing 66.67 wt% BCTb powder, 6.67 wt% polyethersulphone (PESf) and 26.67 wt% N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) followed by sintering at elevated temperatures. The influence of sintering temperature on the membrane properties was investigated in terms of crystal phase, morphology, porosity and mechanical strength. In order to obtain gas-tight hollow fibres with sufficient mechanical strength, the sintering temperature should be controlled between 1350 and 1450 °C. Hydrogen permeation through the BCTb hollow fibre membranes was carried out between 700 and 1000 °C using 50% H2–He mixture as feed on the shell side and N2 as sweep gas in the fibre lumen. The measured hydrogen permeation flux through the BCTb hollow fibre membranes reached up to 0.422 μmol cm?2 s?1 at 1000 °C when the flow rates of the H2–He feed and the nitrogen sweep were 40 mL min?1 and 30 mL min?1, respectively.  相似文献

Poly(N‐vinyl‐γ‐sodium aminobutyrate‐co‐sodium acrylate) (VSA–SA)/polysulfone (PS) composite membranes were prepared for the separation of CO2. VSA–SA contained secondary amines and carboxylate ions that could act as carriers for CO2. At 20°C and 1.06 atm of feed pressure, a VSA–SA/PS composite membrane displayed a pure CO2 permeation rate of 6.12 × 10?6 cm3(STP)/cm2 s cmHg and a CO2/CH4 ideal selectivity of 524.5. In experiments with a mixed gas of 50 vol % CO2 and 50 vol % CH4, at 20°C and 1.04 atm of feed pressure, the CO2 permeation rate was 9.2 × 10?6 cm3 (STP)/cm2 s cmHg, and the selectivity of CO2/CH4 was 46.8. Crosslinkages with metal ions were effective for increasing the selectivity. Both the selectivity of CO2 over CH4 and the CO2 permeation rate had a maximum against the carrier concentration. The high CO2 permeation rate originated from the facilitated transport mechanism, which was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared with attenuated total reflectance techniques. The performance of the membranes prepared in this work had good stability. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 275–282, 2006  相似文献

The influences of bulk diffusion and surface exchange on oxygen transport of (La0.6Ca0.4)(Co0.8Fe0.2)O3-δ (LCCF) hollow fiber membranes were investigated. As an outcome, two strategies for increasing the oxygen permeation were pursued. First, porous LCCF hollow fibers as support were coated with a 22 μm dense LCCF separation layer through dip coating and co-sintering. The oxygen permeation of the porous fiber with dense layer reached up to 5.10 mL min?1 cm-2 at 1000 °C in a 50 % CO2 atmosphere. Second, surface etching of dense LCCF hollow fibers with H2SO4 was applied. The surface etching of both inner and outer surfaces leads to a permeation improvement up to 86.0 %. This finding implies that the surface exchange reaction plays a key role in oxygen transport through LCCF hollow fibers. A good long-term (>250 h) stability of the asymmetric hollow fiber in a 50 % CO2 atmosphere was found at 900 °C.  相似文献
