A method for determination of single solute adsorption isotherms based on the analysis of the nonlinear frequency response (FR) of a chromatographic column is developed theoretically. In order to demonstrate this method, the FR of a chromatographic column is simulated for the periodical inlet concentration changes (sine waveform) around several steady-state concentrations. The frequency response functions (FRFs) up to the third order are calculated from the inlet and outlet concentration changes, which are analysed using the fast Fourier transform. Afterwards the coefficients of an adsorption isotherm are estimated from the low-frequency asymptotes of the FRFs and their derivatives. The obtained coefficients compare well with those used for simulations. Also discussed are some aspects that might affect the accuracy of the suggested method when it is applied to the analysis of experimental data, e.g. influence of velocity fluctuations, noise and size of the analysed data set.  相似文献

Glass corrosion data from the ALTGLASS database were used to determine if gel compositions, which evolve as glass systems corrode, are correlated with the generation of zeolites and subsequent increase in the glass dissolution rate at long times. The gel compositions were estimated based on the difference between the elemental glass starting compositions and the measured elemental leachate concentrations from the long-term product consistency tests (ASTM C1285) at various stages of dissolution, ie, reaction progress. A well-characterized subset of high level waste glasses from the database was selected: these glasses had been leached for 15-20 years at reaction progresses up to ~80%. The gel composition data, at various reaction progresses, were subjected to a step-wise regression, which demonstrated that hydrogel compositions with Si*/Al* ratios of <1.0 did not generate zeolites and maintained low dissolution rates for the duration of the experiments. Glasses that formed hydrogel compositions with Si^*/Al^* ratios ≥1, generated zeolites accompanied by a resumption in the glass dissolution rate. The role of the gel Si/Al ratio, and the interactions with the leachate, provides the fundamental understanding needed to predict if and when the glass dissolution rate will increase due to zeolitization.  相似文献

The adsorption of 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) on Au(1 1 1) in 0.1 M H2SO4 was studied by cyclic voltammetry, capacitance measurements and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The formation of a self-assembled monolayer under electrochemically controlled conditions was monitored for the first time with an STM. A two-step adsorption process has been found, beginning with the adsorption of MPA to form a disordered film, which lifts the () reconstruction of Au(1 1 1), followed by an ordering of the MPA adlayer into two different dense structures. Concomitantly with the second step, formation of the well-known vacancy islands is observed. This formation is explained by an adsorbate-induced compression of the gold substrate. Two distinctly different structures of the dense MPA monolayer on Au(1 1 1) were observed. One () structure with p=3.6-4.8 and a second structure consisting of two unit cells of () and () symmetry. In part II, the effect of the MPA on the copper electrodeposition onto Au(1 1 1) is discussed.  相似文献
