Canadian Psychologist--1969.

At the 1968 annual meeting of the Canadian Psychological Association the President announced that the Canadian Journal of Behavioral Science would publish its first issue in January 1969. Undoubtedly this new journal will attract the attention of psychologists who formerly submitted articles to the Canadian Psychologist. Consequently, the editorial office of the Canadian Psychologist wishes to state its editorial policy in order that all writers be informed as to the objectives of the journal. The Canadian Psychologist will continue to publish the official affairs and proceedings of the Canadian Psychological Association, as well as notes and comments on psychological matters. In addition it will accept evaluative reviews, expressions of opinions and articles related to historical or theoretical questions. Hence, in 1947 the association undertook its second, but first major journal publishing venture, the Canadian Journal of Psychology. This replaced the Bulletin. In 1950, the association established another journal to serve as a house organ and named it the Canadian Psychologist. In 1967, the association decided that if funds could be found, a journal devoted to theory, research, and application in the areas of psychology concerned with social problems would be established and called the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science. In May 1967, the association decided that if funds could be found, a journal devoted to theory, research, and application in the areas of psychology concerned with social problems would be established and called the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science. In January 1968 President W. H. Coons reported the gratifying news that the Canada Council had agreed to provide the needed funds. With the wholehearted support of the members of the association the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science should soon become a sister of the Canadian Journal of Psychology of which the Canadian psychological community can be justly proud. A Janus view of the Journal.

The month of January of the fifth year of publication seems a good time both to look back on the journal's achievements in the past and to glance forward at its aspirations for the future. Over all, it is shown that the journal does attract and publish material relevant to the issues that it was designed to cover. If, in its content, the perfect balance has not yet been struck, the remedy lies to hand; the reader must turn writer and by his own contributions ensure a better representation of his chosen field of interest in our future publications. Park Olof Davidson: 1937-1980.

The distinguished career of Park Davidson came to a tragic end when he and his wife, Sheena, were killed in an automobile accident on December 21, 1980. The impact of this shattering event is not yet fully comprehended by the community of psychologists in Canada, but we know how sorely his friendship, inspiration, and guidance will be missed. Park had served as Editor of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science since 1974. Park enjoyed many other distinctions as a professional psychologist, academician, and research scientist. He served a distinguished term as President of the Canadian Psychological Association. Still a young man, he had already been President of the Psychological Association of Alberta and Chairman of the Advisory Council of Provincial Associations of Psychology, in addition to providing wise counsel for many other professional organizations, government agencies, community organizations, and universities. As well as being editor of several of these volumes, Park was a vigorous research scientist whose interests and publications ranged through stress management, pain, alcoholism, parent-infant interaction, and programme evaluation. From the Editor's Desk.

I assumed editorial responsibilities for the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science shortly after the sudden and tragic death of Park Davidson, the previous editor. Although I was encouraged to write an editorial then, as is customary for incoming editors, I declined the invitation, stating that there would be no change in policy. Now, three years later, an editorial is in order. Many policy changes have been made, and they need to be summarized. Despite any changes in policy, the content and focus of the Journal remain unchanged since Park's editorship and virtually unchanged from that proposed in its founding. Editorial.

The recent decision by the Board of Directors of the Canadian Psychological Association to discontinue the Canadian Psychological Review requires a restructuring of the editorial policies of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science. We shall continue to give primary emphasis to the publication of original research from any applied area of behavioural science. However, beginning in 1979, we shall also accept theoretical and review articles in applied fields of psychology, and brief comments on important psychological issues that arise within the applied area.
