Unidirectional flax fiber reinforced composites (FFRC) were made by hot press. Effects of processing parameters, including curing pressure, time and temperature on the distribution, shape and content of the voids formed during the manufacturing process of FFRC were investigated. The voids were characterized with the aid of ultrasonic C-scan and optical microscopy. Tensile and interlaminar shear properties of FFRC containing different content and shape of the voids were tested. The results showed that the voids were easily trapped in both the intralaminar and inside the flax yarns of FFRC due to the distinct structural characteristics of flax fibers. The relationships between voids and mechanical properties of the composites were established.  相似文献

Rapidly increasing packaging density of electronic devices puts forward higher requirements for thermal conductivity of glass fibers reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites, which are commonly used as substrates in printed circuit board. Interface between fillers and polymer matrix has long been playing an important role in affecting thermal conductivity. In this paper, the effect of interfacial state on the thermal conductivity of functionalized Al2O3 filled GFRP composites was evaluated. The results indicated that amino groups-Al2O3 was demonstrated to be effective filler to fabricate thermally conductive GFPR composite (1.07 W/m K), compared with epoxy group and graphene oxide functionalized Al2O3. It was determined that the strong adhesion at the interface and homogeneous dispersion of filler particles were the key factors. Moreover, the effect of interfacial state on dielectric and thermomechanical properties of GFRP composites was also discussed. This research provides an efficient way to develop high-performance GFRP composites with high thermal conductivity for integrated circuit packaging applications.  相似文献

In this study, carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polyamide 6 (PA6) composites were prepared by using melt mixing method. Effects of fiber length and content, on the mechanical, thermal and morphological properties of CF reinforced PA6 composites were investigated. Fiber length distributions of composites were also determined by using an image analyzing program. It was seen that the maximum number of fibers were observed in the range of 0–50 μm. Mechanical test results showed that, increasing CF content increased the tensile strength, modulus and hardness values but decreased strain at break values of composites. DSC results showed that Tg and Tm values of composites were not changed significantly with increasing CF content and length. However, heat of fusion and the relative degree of crystallinity values of composites decreased with ascending CF content. DMA results revealed that storage modulus and loss modulus values of composites increased with increasing CF content.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP)-based composites containing 20 wt.% wool fibres were successfully prepared using a simple melt blending procedure. A blend of a commercial-grade PP and a maleinised PP was chosen as the matrix. To investigate the effects of modifying the fibre surface on the fibre/matrix adhesion, wool fibres were used as received, oxidised, or functionalised with a silane-based coupling agent, capable in principle of reacting with both the fibres and the polyolefinic matrix. The silanisation of the fibres and the consequent surface modifications were assessed using infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The resulting PP-based composites were thoroughly characterised in terms of their morphology, thermal stability and mechanical behaviour.  相似文献

This paper presents the research on hybrid thermoplastic biocomposites reinforced with a combination of short man-made cellulose fibres and softwood flour. The introduced short fibre composites are meant to be processed with injection moulding and may be an alternative to glass-fibre reinforced thermoplastics on account of their comparable specific strengths. The occurring positive hybrid effect enables to substitute up to half the weight of short fibre cellulose reinforcement with softwood flour without a significant reduction of material flexural strength. The flexural modulus of investigated hybrid biocomposites remained approximately at the same level, while impact strength was reduced with increasing softwood flour content. The proposed hybridisation leads to establishing biocomposites of suitable performance with competitive density, price and recycling possibilities in comparison to standard glass fibre reinforced counterparts. Moreover, the application of biobased polymers like polylactide as biocomposite matrix, contributes to the development of so called “green” high performance materials.  相似文献

This current work is concerned with the pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse (SCB) by mechanical activation (MA) using a self-designed stirring ball mill and surface modification of SCB using aluminate coupling agent (ACA). The untreated and differently treated SCBs were used to produce composites with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) as polymer matrix. The activation grade (Ag) measurement and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis of SCB showed that MA enhanced the condensation reaction between ACA and hydroxyl groups of the SCB fibres, which obviously increased the hydrophobicity of SCB. It was found that the mechanical properties of both the PVC composites reinforced by SCB with and without ACA modification increased with increasing milling time (tM). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis showed that MA pretreatment significantly improved the dispersion of SCB in the composites and interfacial adhesion between SCB and PVC matrix, resulting in better mechanical properties of the composites.  相似文献

In the present study, graphene nanoribbon was prepared through unzipping the multi walled carbon nanotubes, and its reinforcing effect as a filler to the silicone rubber was further investigated. The results showed that carbon nanotubes could be unzipped to graphene nanoribbon using strong oxidants like potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid. The prepared graphene nanoribbon could homogeneously disperse within silicone rubber matrix using a simple solution mixing approach. It was also found from the thermogravimetric analysis curves that the thermal stability of the graphene nanoribbon filled silicone rubber nanocomposites improved compared to the pristine silicone rubber. Besides, with the incorporation of the nanofiller, the mechanical properties of the resulting nanocomposites were significantly enhanced, in which both the tensile stress and Young’s modulus increased by 67% and 93% respectively when the mass content of the graphene nanoribbon was 2.0 wt%. Thus it could be expected that graphene nanoribbon had large potentials to be applied as the reinforcing filler to fabricate polymers with increased the thermal and mechanical properties.  相似文献

Graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) was incorporated into poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and PVDF/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blend to achieve binary and ternary nanocomposites. GNP was more randomly dispersed in binary composites compared with ternary composites. GNP exhibited higher nucleation efficiency for PVDF crystallization in ternary composites than in binary composites. GNP addition induced PVDF crystals with higher stability; however, PMMA imparted opposite effect. The binary composite exhibited lower thermal expansion value than PVDF; the value further declined (up to 28.5% drop) in the ternary composites. The storage modulus of binary and ternary composites increased to 23.1% and 53.9% (at 25 °C), respectively, compared with PVDF. Electrical percolation threshold between 1 phr and 2 phr GNP loading was identified for the two composite systems; the ternary composites exhibited lower electrical resistivity at identical GNP loadings. Rheological data confirmed that the formation of GNP (pseudo)network structure was assisted in the ternary system.  相似文献

The thermal, mechanical and ablation properties of carbon fibre/phenolic composites filled with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were investigated. Carbon fibre/phenolic/MWCNTs were prepared using different weight percentage of MWCNTs by compression moulding. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), flexural tests, thermal gravimetric analysis and oxyacetylene torch tests. The thermal stability and flexural properties of the nanocomposites increased by increasing MWCNTs content (wt% ⩽1), but they decreased when the content of MWCNTs was 2 wt%. The linear and mass ablation rates of the nanocomposites after modified with 1 wt% MWCNTs decreased by about 80% and 52%, respectively. To investigate the material post-test microstructure, a morphological characterization was carried out using SEM. It was shown that the presence of MWCNTs in the composite led to the formation of a strong network char layer without any cracks or opening.  相似文献

In order to employ polyethersulfone (PES) in cryogenic engineering field, its cryogenic mechanical performance should be examined and should also be improved to meet the high requirement for cryogenic engineering application. In this work, pure PES, graphene oxide (GO)/PES, short carbon fiber (SCF)/PES, GO/SCF/PES and GO-coated SCF/PES composites are prepared using the extrusion compounding and injection molding techniques. The tensile and flexural properties of these composites are systematically investigated at a typical cryogenic temperature (77 K). It is shown that the cryogenic mechanical properties are enhanced by the addition of GO, SCFs and coated-SCFs. In particular, the GO-coated SCF/PES composites display the greatly enhanced cryogenic mechanical properties with the highest values compared to other PES composites. In addition, it is exhibited that the cryogenic mechanical properties at 77 K of PES and its composites are far higher than those at room temperature (RT).  相似文献

In order to explore the addition effect of fluorinated graphene (FG) on the mechanical and thermal performances of polyimide (PI) matrix, FG sheets are first prepared and employed as the nanofillers to construct PI/FG nanocomposite films. The prepared film is optically transparent at low content of FG and experimental results demonstrate that the addition of FG can effectively enhance the properties of PI matrix. Especially, compared with pure PI matrix, the addition of 0.5 wt% FG in PI can endow 30.4% increase in tensile stress and 115.2% increase in elongation at break. Experimental analyses considering the morphology and microstructure are also conducted, and the results indicate that the improved mechanical properties of the PI/FG nanocomposite films are mainly attributed to the good dispersibility of FG sheets in PI host, and the effective stress transfer between the polymer and the FG.  相似文献

Composites of polypropylene (PP) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced with 20 wt.% of curaua fibres were prepared using a twin-screw extruder and the effect of screw rotation speed (SRS) was evaluated by measuring the output, the mechanical properties of the composites, the morphology and the fibre dimensions. Increase in SRS causes a decrease in length, diameter and aspect ratio of the fibres in both composites, due to the high shear forces acting in the molten polymer and transferred to the fibres. Consequently, the reinforcement effect of the fibres decreased, as evidenced by the flexural and tensile mechanical properties of the composites. Additionally, polymeric matrices undergoes thermo-mechanical degradation during processing, this also contributed to the changes in the mechanical properties. Comparison between the matrices showed that PP composites are less affected by changes in SRS, suffering fewer changes in fibre dimensional parameters and in the mechanical properties than HDPE composites.  相似文献

Nano/micrometer hybrids are prepared by chemical vapor deposition growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on SiC, Al2O3 and graphene nanoplatelet (GNP). The mechanical and self-sensing behaviors of the hybrids reinforced epoxy composites are found to be highly dependent on CNT aspect ratio (AR), organization and substrates. The CNT–GNP hybrids exhibit the most significant reinforcing effectiveness, among the three hybrids with AR1200. During tensile loading, the in situ electrical resistance of the CNT–GNP/epoxy and the CNT–SiC/epoxy composites gradually increases to a maximum value and then decreases, which is remarkably different from the monotonic increase in the CNT–Al2O3/epoxy composites. However, the CNT–Al2O3 with increased AR  2000 endows the similar resistance change as the other two hybrids. Besides, when AR < 3200, the tensile modulus and strength of the CNT–Al2O3/epoxy composites gradually increase with AR. The interrelationship between the hybrid structure and the mechanical and self-sensing behaviors of the composites are analyzed.  相似文献

Isotactic polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) of various diameters (10–50 nm) were fabricated by extrusion and compression-molding techniques and characterized by X-ray diffraction measurements, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, mechanical test and differential thermal analyses. The pure PP exhibits both the a- and b-axes oriented α-crystal, whereas the MWCNTs induce the b-axis orientation of the α-crystal along with the formation of minor γ-phase crystal in nanocomposites. Crystallinity, long period of lamellae, tensile strength, tensile modulus (TM) and microhardness (H) of PP considerably change by different loading and sizes of MWCNTs. The estimated values H/TM = 0.09–0.10 for all samples approach the predicted value of 0.10 for polymers. The increase in crystallinity has been demonstrated by both XRD and DSC studies. Mathematical models have been invoked to explain the changes in mechanical properties. An increase in thermal stability of polymer matrix occurs with increasing MWCNTs size and loading.  相似文献

The hybrid filler of hollow glass microspheres (HGM) and nitride particles was filled into low-density polyethylene (LDPE) matrix via powder mixing and then hot pressing technology to obtain the composites with higher thermal conductivity as well as lower dielectric constant (Dk) and loss (Df). The effects of surface modification of nitride particles and HGMs as well as volume ratio between them on the thermal conductivity and dielectric properties at 1 MHz of the composites were first investigated. The results indicate that the surface modification of the filler has a beneficial effect on thermal conductivity and dielectric properties of the composites due to the good interfacial adhesion between the filler and matrix. An optimal volume ratio of nitride particles to HGMs of 1:1 is determined on the basis of overall performance of the composites. The thermal conductivity as well as dielectric properties at 1 MHz and microwave frequency of the composites made from surface-modified fillers with the optimal nitride to HGM volume ratio were investigated as a function of the total volume fraction of hybrid filler. It is found that the thermal conductivity increases with filler volume fraction, and it is mainly related to the type of nitride particle other than HGM. The Dk values at 1 MHz and microwave frequency show an increasing trend with filler volume fraction and depend largely on the types of both nitride particles and HGMs. The Df values at 1 MHz or quality factor (Q × f) at microwave frequency show an increasing or decreasing trend with filler volume fraction and also depend on the types of both nitride particle and HGM. Finally, optimal type of HGM and nitride particles as well as corresponding thermal conductivity and dielectric properties is obtained. SEM observations show that the hybrid filler particles are agglomerated around the LDPE matrix particles, and within the agglomerates the smaller-sized nitride particles in the hybrid filler can easily form thermally conductive networks to make the composites with high thermal conductivity. At the same time, the increase of the value Dk of the composites is restricted due to the presence of HGMs.  相似文献

Comparison of some changes occurring in polylactide (PLA) due to its modification by glass filler being in the form of microspheres (GM) was the objective of the present study. Mechanical and thermal properties, density, mass flow rate, and were determined. In addition, there were examined surface free energy and changes in the surface geometrical structure of sample fractures. It was found that PLA as modified with GM exhibited the enhanced longitudinal modulus of elasticity, flexural modulus, and mass flow rate. The impact strength and flexural strength did not change. The tensile strength and tensile strain at break decreased. The used glass filler did not affect essentially the thermal properties of PLA. The prepared composites exhibited uniform distribution of the dispersed phase in the polymer matrix and adequate adhesion at the interface between the two components. Substantial changes in the properties of the surface layer were observed, mainly in surface free energy.  相似文献

Cyclodextrin microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (MCAPP) was prepared by the reaction between cyclodextrin (CD) and toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) with the goal of improving the water durability of APP and preparing a novel functional flame retardants. The Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated MCAPP were successfully prepared, and the water contact angle (WCA) results indicated that cyclodextrin resulted in the transformation of hydrophilic to hydrophobic of the flame retardant surface. The MCAPP was then incorporated into the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) system and the effects of the MCAPP on the mechanical, combustion, thermal, interfacial adhesion and flame-retardant properties of EVA cable were investigated and compared by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), limiting oxygen index (LOI), mechanical test, cone calorimeter and UL-94 test. The characterization for the various properties of EVA composites demonstrated that cyclodextrin microencapsulation technology could enhance the interfacial adhesion, resulting in the improved mechanical, thermal stability, combustion properties and flame-retardant properties compared with those of EVA/APP/CD system. Furthermore, the water resistance experiments results demonstrate that EVA/MCAPP composites have good water durability due to the hydrophobic property of MCAPP. Above all, the microencapsulation of APP with cyclodextrin developed in this study may be a promising formulation for combining the acid source, the carbonization agent and the blowing agent in one flame retardant, and the MCAPP can solve the water resistance and the compatibility problem of the flame retardant during the industrial application.  相似文献

A study on the dynamic mechanical properties of polypropylene copolymer/ethylene–vinyl acetate/organoclay (PP-EP/EVA/C20A) nanocomposites is presented. Nanocomposites were obtained by melt blending. Morphology consisting of intercalated–exfoliated clay nanolayers preferentially located within the EVA phase was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). Polar groups of vinyl acetate in the EVA facilitated the polymer–clay interactions. Changes in the glass transition temperature (Tg) were correlated with changes in the clay intercalation–exfoliation levels. The highly reinforced with intercalated–exfoliated clay layers EVA phase was considered as the origin of the improvement on mechanical properties of the ternary nanocomposites and is associated with the increase on viscosity, heat deflection temperature (HDT), and storage modulus.  相似文献

The present research work demonstrated the reinforcing effect of expanded graphite (EG) and modified EG (MEG) with and without carbon black (CB) on the physical, mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of emulsion polymerized styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) vulcanizates. In separate batches, EG and MEG flakes with and without CB were incorporated into the SBR by melt blending. The microstructures of the nanocomposites were precisely characterized by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) analysis and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM). EG and MEG filled SBR compounds showed improvement in the curing features, mechanical, thermal and dynamic mechanical properties than their respective controls.  相似文献
