This research investigates the free vibration and buckling of a two-layered cylindrical shell made of inner functionally graded (FG) and outer isotropic elastic layer, subjected to combined static and periodic axial forces. Material properties of functionally graded cylindrical shell are considered as temperature dependent and graded in the thickness direction according to a power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Theoretical formulations are presented based on two different methods of first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) considering the transverse shear strains and the rotary inertias and the classical shell theory (CST). The results obtained show that the transverse shear and rotary inertias have considerable effect on the fundamental frequency of the FG cylindrical shell. The results for nondimensional natural frequency are in a close agreement with those in literature. It is inferred from the results that the geometry parameters and material composition of the shell have significant effect on the critical axial force, so that the minimum critical load is obtained for fully metal shell. Good agreement between theoretical and finite element results validates the approach. It is concluded that the presence of an additional elastic layer significantly increases the nondimensional natural frequency, the buckling resistance and hence the elastic stability in axial compression with respect to a FG hollow cylinder.  相似文献

In this study, the magnetic-mechanical buckling of a cylindrical panel made of two-dimensional functionally graded materials (2D-FGMs) has been investigated. The panel contains longitudinal and circumferential stiffeners and has been subjected to a uniform magnetic field as well as axial load. Material properties of the cylindrical panel are assumed to vary continuously in radial and thickness directions as a function of the volume fraction of the components. The magnetic field has been exerted radially. Equilibrium and stability equations have been derived using both Hamilton's principle and principle of minimum potential energy based on the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT). The generalized differential quadrature method (GDQ) has been employed to solve the coupled differential equations. Moreover, the effect of geometry, load, magnitude of the magnetic field, number of stiffeners, and volume fraction coefficient on the critical buckling load has been determined. The results are in good agreement with the previous related works.  相似文献

In this study, dynamo-thermo-elastic analysis of a rotating piezoelectric hollow cylinder made of functionally material is presented. Coupled differential quadrature and finite difference methods are used to solve boundary/initial value equations of the problem. Material properties are assumed to be graded in radial direction and temperature independent. Numerical results obtained and convergence are studied, and then verified with reported results in literature. Effect of variations of the grading parameter, angular velocity, thermal gradient and ratio of the outer to inner radii on the stresses, radial displacement and electrical potential are presented.  相似文献

In this Part, the extensive parametric studies performed are reported and numerical results are presented for the buckling and postbuckling of fiber reinforced polymer matrix and metal matrix composite laminated shells subjected to axial compression or external pressure under different sets of environmental conditions. Two kinds of fiber reinforced composite laminated shells, namely, uniformly distributed (UD) and functionally graded (FG) reinforcements, are considered. The numerical results show that the buckling loads as well as postbuckling strength of the shell can be increased as a result of functionally graded fiber reinforcements. The results reveal that the effect of functionally graded fiber reinforcements on the buckling loads and postbuckling strength of shell with polymer matrix is more pronounced compared to the shell with metal matrix in the case of axial compression. In contrast, in the case of external pressure, the functionally graded fiber reinforcements may have a significant effect on the buckling pressure and postbuckling strength of the shell with metal matrix.  相似文献

Buckling and postbuckling behavior are presented for fiber reinforced composite (FRC) laminated cylindrical shells subjected to axial compression or a uniform external pressure in thermal environments. Two kinds of fiber reinforced composite laminated shells, namely, uniformly distributed (UD) and functionally graded (FG) reinforcements, are considered. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory with von Kármán-type of kinematic non-linearity and including the extension-twist, extension-flexural and flexural-twist couplings. The thermal effects are also included, and the material properties of FRC laminated cylindrical shells are estimated through a micromechanical model and are assumed to be temperature dependent. The non-linear prebuckling deformations and the initial geometric imperfections of the shell are both taken into account. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the buckling loads and postbuckling equilibrium paths of FRC laminated cylindrical shells.  相似文献

This work presents an analytical solution for acoustic transmission through relatively thick FGM cylindrical shells using third order shear deformation theory (TSDT). An infinitely long FGM cylindrical shell composed of metal and ceramic with power-law distribution of volume fraction through the thickness is considered. The shell is immersed in a fluid with an external airflow and an oblique plane wave impinges on the external sidewall of the shell. Comparing the results of present study with those of previous models (CST and FSDT) for thin shells, similar results are observed due to limited effects of shear and rotation on transmission loss (TL). However, for relatively thick shells where the shear and rotation effects become more important in lower R/h, TSDT presents more accurate results caused by its higher order model. In addition, the results show proportional change in TL according to distribution of material properties through the thickness of FG cylindrical shells.  相似文献

Non-linear buckling and postbuckling of a moderately thick anisotropic laminated cylindrical shell of finite length subjected to lateral pressure, hydrostatic pressure and external liquid pressure has been presented in the paper. The material of each layer of the shell is assumed to be linearly elastic, anisotropic and fiber-reinforced. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory with von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic non-linearity and including the extension/twist, extension/flexural and flexural/twist couplings. The non-linear prebuckling deformations and initial geometric imperfections of the shell are both taken into account. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the buckling pressure and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling response of perfect and imperfect, moderately thick, anisotropic laminated cylindrical shells with different values of shell parameters and stacking sequence. The results confirm that there exists a circumferential stress along with an associate shear stress when the shell is subjected to external pressure.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new higher-order shear deformation theory for buckling and free vibration analysis of isotropic and functionally graded (FG) sandwich beams. The present theory accounts a new hyperbolic distribution of transverse shear stress and satisfies the traction free boundary conditions. Equations of motion are derived from Lagrange's equations. Analytical solutions are presented for the isotropic and FG sandwich beams with various boundary conditions. Numerical results for natural frequencies and critical buckling loads obtained using the present theory are compared with those obtained using the higher and first-order shear deformation beam theories. Effects of the boundary conditions, power-law index, span-to-depth ratio and skin-core-skin thickness ratios on the critical buckling loads and natural frequencies of the FG beams are discussed.  相似文献

In the present article, as a first endeavor, the wave propagation in functionally graded nanocomposites reinforced with carbon nanotubes is investigated on the basis of second-order shear deformation theory. Four different types of functionally graded nanocomposites are presented. An analytical method is used to find the circular frequencies and phase velocities. To show the accuracy of the present methodology, our results for the free vibration are compared with the results of functionally graded plates available in the literature. The influences of different parameters are also investigated on the circular frequencies and phase velocities.  相似文献

Based on the first-order shear deformation theory, the free vibration of the functionally graded (FG) truncated conical shells is analyzed. The truncated conical shell materials are assumed to be isotropic and inhomogeneous in the longitudinal direction. The two-constituent FG shell consists of ceramic and metal. These constituents are graded through the length, from one end of the shell to the other end. Using Hamilton's principle the derived governing equations are solved using differential quadrature method. Fast rate of convergence of this method is tested and its advantages over other existing solver methods are observed. The primary results of this study were obtained for four different end boundary conditions, and for some special cases, acquired results were compared with those available in the literature. Furthermore, effects of geometrical parameters, material graded power index, and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of the FG truncated conical shell are carried out.  相似文献

This article presents an investigation on the buckling of functionally graded (FG) truncated conical shells under an axial load resting on elastic foundations within the shear deformation theory (SDT). The governing equations are solved using the Galerkin method, and the closed-form solution of the axial buckling load for FG conical shells on elastic foundations within the SDT is obtained. Various numerical examples are presented and discussed to verify the accuracy of the closed-form solution in predicting dimensionless buckling loads for FG conical shells on the Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundations within the SDT.  相似文献

A two-dimensional (2D) higher-order deformation theory is presented for vibration and buckling problems of circular cylindrical shells made of functionally graded materials (FGMs). The modulus of elasticity of functionally graded (FG) shells is assumed to vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. By using the method of power series expansion of continuous displacement components, a set of fundamental governing equations which can take into account the effects of both transverse shear and normal deformations, and rotatory inertia is derived through Hamilton’s principle. Several sets of truncated Mth order approximate theories are applied to solve the eigenvalue problems of simply supported FG circular cylindrical shells. In order to assure the accuracy of the present theory, convergence properties of the fundamental natural frequency for the fundamental mode r=s=1 are examined in detail. A comparison of the present natural frequencies of isotropic and FG shells is also made with previously published results. Critical buckling stresses of simply supported FG circular cylindrical shells subjected to axial stress are also obtained and a relation between the buckling stress and natural frequency is presented. The internal and external works are calculated and compared to prove the numerical accuracy of solutions. Modal transverse shear and normal stresses are calculated by integrating the three-dimensional (3D) equations of motion in the thickness direction satisfying the stress boundary conditions at the outer and inner surfaces. The 2D higher-order deformation theory has an advantage in the analysis of vibration and buckling problems of FG circular cylindrical shells.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical solution to the static analysis of functionally graded plates, using a recently developed higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and provides detailed comparisons with other HSDT’s available in the literature. These theories account for adequate distribution of the transverse shear strains through the plate thickness and tangential stress-free boundary conditions on the plate boundary surfaces, thus a shear correction factor is not required. The mechanical properties of the plates are assumed to vary in the thickness direction according to a power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The governing equations of a functionally graded (FG) plate and boundary conditions are derived by employing the principle of virtual work. Navier-type analytical solution is obtained for FG plates subjected to transverse bi-sinusoidal and distributed loads for simply supported boundary conditions. Results are provided for thick to thin FG plates and for different volume fraction distributions. The accuracy of the present code is verified by comparing it with known results in the literature.  相似文献

An analytical solution of the static governing equations of exponentially graded plates obtained by using a recently developed higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) is presented. The mechanical properties of the plates are assumed to vary exponentially in the thickness direction. The governing equations of exponentially graded plates and boundary conditions are derived by employing the principle of virtual work. A Navier-type analytical solution is obtained for such plates subjected to transverse bi-sinusoidal loads for simply supported boundary conditions. Results are provided for thick to thin plates and for different values of the parameter n, which dictates the material variation profile through the plate thickness. The accuracy of the present code is verified by comparing it with 3D elasticity solution and with other well-known trigonometric shear deformation theory. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that the present HSDT theory predict with good accuracy inplane displacements, normal and shear stresses for thick exponentially graded plates.  相似文献

Small scale effects in the functionally graded beam are investigated by using various nonlocal higher-order shear deformation beam theories. The material properties of a beam are supposed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The nonlocal equilibrium equations are obtained and an exact solution is presented for vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams. The accuracy of the present model is discussed by comparing the results with previous studies and a parametric investigation is presented to study the effects of power law index, small-scale parameter, and aspect ratio on the vibrational behavior of FG nanostructures.  相似文献

Thermal post-buckling analysis is first presented for functionally graded elliptical plates based on high-order shear deformation theory in different thermal environments. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction. Ritz method is employed to determine the central deflection-temperature curves, the validity of which can be confirmed by comparison with related researchers' results; it is worth noting that the forms of approximate solutions are well chosen in consideration of both simplicity and accuracy. Influences played by different supported boundaries, thermal environmental conditions, ratio of major to minor axis, and volume fraction index are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Composite cylindrical shells and panels are widely used in aerospace structures. These are often subjected to defects and damage from both in-service and manufacturing events. Delamination is the most important of these defects. This paper deals with the computational modelling of delamination in isotropic and laminated composite cylindrical shells. The use of three-dimensional finite elements for predicting the delamination buckling of these structures is computationally expensive. Here combined double-layer and single-layer of shell elements are employed to study the effect of delamination on the global load-carrying capacity of such systems under axial compressive load. It is shown that through-the-thickness delamination can be modelled and analysed effectively without requiring a great deal of computing time and memory. A parametric study is carried out to study the influence of the delamination size, orientation and through-the-width position of a series of laminated cylinders. The effect of material properties is also investigated. Some of the results are compared with the corresponding analytical results. It is shown that ignoring the contact between the delaminated layers can result in wrong estimations of the critical buckling loads in cylindrical shells under compressive load.  相似文献

The article is concerned with the analysis of panel flutter of heated circular clamped cylindrical shells made of functionally graded (FG) material, which are subject to a simultaneous action of the external supersonic gas flow and the internal flow of ideal compressible fluid. The effective properties of the material change throughout the thickness of the shell according to a power law and depend on temperature. The aerodynamic pressure is calculated based on the quasi-static aerodynamic theory. The behavior of the fluid is described in the framework of the potential theory. A mathematical formulation of the dynamic problem for elastic structure is developed based on the classical theory of shells and the principle of virtual displacements. Based on the results of numerical simulation the influence of different consistencies of the examined FG materials, thermal load, and internal flow velocity on the boundary of aeroelastic stability is analyzed.  相似文献
