Recent advances in wireless communication technologies and auto-mobile industry have triggered a significant research interest in the field of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) over the past few years. A vehicular network consists of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications supported by wireless access technologies such as IEEE 802.11p. This innovation in wireless communication has been envisaged to improve road safety and motor traffic efficiency in near future through the development of intelligent transportation system (ITS). Hence, governments, auto-mobile industries and academia are heavily partnering through several ongoing research projects to establish standards for VANETs. The typical set of VANET application areas, such as vehicle collision warning and traffic information dissemination have made VANET an interesting field of mobile wireless communication. This paper provides an overview on current research state, challenges, potentials of VANETs as well as the ways forward to achieving the long awaited ITS.  相似文献

Effective vehicular power management requires accurate knowledge of battery state, including state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH). This paper presents an integrated algorithm for reliable battery SOH monitoring. The dynamics of lead acid batteries during engine cranking is investigated, and a new battery model is presented. Moreover, a parity-relation-based integrated method for battery SOH monitoring is proposed. It is shown that the diagnostic residual combines the SOH information provided by both battery resistance and voltage loss during engine cranking, hence enhancing diagnostic performance. Extensive evaluation results using real vehicle cranking data have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

Cooperative vehicular systems are currently being investigated to design innovative ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) solutions for road traffic management and safety. Through the wireless exchange of information between vehicles, and between vehicles and infrastructure nodes, cooperative systems can support novel decentralized strategies for ubiquitous and more cost-attractive traffic monitoring. In this context, this paper presents and evaluates CoTEC (COperative Traffic congestion detECtion), a novel cooperative technique based on Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications designed to detect road traffic congestion. CoTEC is evaluated under large-scale highway scenarios using iTETRIS, a unique open source simulation platform created to investigate the impact of cooperative vehicular systems. The obtained results demonstrate CoTEC's capability to accurately detect and characterize road traffic congestion conditions under different traffic scenarios and V2V penetration rates. In particular, CoTEC results in congestion detection probabilities higher than 90%. These results are obtained without overloading the cooperative communications channel. In fact, CoTEC reduces the communications overhead needed to detect road traffic congestions compared to related techniques by 88%.  相似文献

The introduction of Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communications in Intelligent Transportation Systems of the future brings new opportunities and new challenges into the automotive scene. Vehicular communications broaden the information spectrum that is available to each vehicle, allowing the enhancement of existing applications and the introduction of new ones. Undoubtedly, the impact of this new technology in transportation safety, efficiency and infotainment is expected to be very important.A significant part of research in vehicular networks (VANETs) is dedicated to networking issues like routing and safety. However, perception systems which until now were based on onboard sensors only, need to incorporate the wirelessly received information in order to extend the situation awareness of the vehicle and the driver. This paper presents an algorithm for associating targets tracked from an onboard radar sensor with the position and motion data received from the VANET. The core of the algorithm is a track oriented multiple hypothesis tracker that is modified for incorporating information included in VANET messages. The algorithm is tested in real scenarios using two experimental vehicles and then compared with two other algorithmic approaches. One is using a simpler single hypothesis algorithm for association of VANET messages and the second is using only the onboard sensors for environment perception. As a result, the advantages of the Multiple Hypothesis Algorithm regarding association performance and the added value of wireless information in the perception system are highlighted.  相似文献

The importance of using adaptive traffic signal control for figuring out the unpredictable traffic congestion in today’s metropolitan life cannot be overemphasized. The vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), as an integral component of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), is a new potent technology that has recently gained the attention of academics to replace traditional instruments for providing information for adaptive traffic signal controlling systems (TSCSs). Meanwhile, the suggestions of VANET-based TSCS approaches have some weaknesses: (1) imperfect compatibility of signal timing algorithms with the obtained VANET-based data types, and (2) inefficient process of gathering and transmitting vehicle density information from the perspective of network quality of service (QoS). This paper proposes an approach that reduces the aforementioned problems and improves the performance of TSCS by decreasing the vehicle waiting time, and subsequently their pollutant emissions at intersections. To achieve these goals, a combination of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications is used. The V2V communication scheme incorporates the procedure of density calculation of vehicles in clusters, and V2I communication is employed to transfer the computed density information and prioritized movements information to the road side traffic controller. The main traffic input for applying traffic assessment in this approach is the queue length of vehicle clusters at the intersections. The proposed approach is compared with one of the popular VANET-based related approaches called MC-DRIVE in addition to the traditional simple adaptive TSCS that uses the Webster method. The evaluation results show the superiority of the proposed approach based on both traffic and network QoS criteria.  相似文献

In a vehicular network, applications are expected to be aware of network conditions and be adaptable to the varying environment in order to achieve the acceptable and predictable performance. Moreover, the establishment of vehicle infotainment system in a heterogeneous vehicular network needs to pay special attention to the distinctive network characteristic in wired/wireless networks, such as dynamic topology and less available bandwidth, and the exploitation of the underutilized peers’ resources to support large-scale services. This work thus proposes a service-oriented information dissemination scheme for vehicle infotainment system to ensure the possibility of heterogeneous vehicular communication and a framework for delivering real-time services over an IP-based network is provided to assure interoperability, roaming, and end-to-end session management. The main focus of this work is to implement an adaptive vehicle infotainment system, in which cache relay nodes ((Xiao, Zhuang, & Liu, 2005)) can be intelligently determined. Fuzzy logic inference system is employed to determine appropriate cache relay nodes to cache infotainment data streams and distribute them to different peers through service-oriented architecture. With the enormous market potential of the telematics industry and the rapid development of information technology, automotive telematics has attracted considerable attention for mobile computing and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITSs). However, as a result of varied platform standards, not all telematics services can be used in telematics terminals. The main issues are that most telematics technologies depend on vertical, proprietary, and closed Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) platforms. These platforms form islands of non-interoperable technology and prevent third-party service providers from creating valuable services. This study integrates the Open Gateway Service Initiative Vehicle Expert Group (OSGi/VEG) into an Android platform to generate a vehicular Android/OSGi platform that has the advantages of both original platforms. These features include remote management, rich class-sharing, proprietary vehicular applications, security policies, easy management of Application Programming Interface (APIs), and an open environment. This study also integrates a cloud computing mechanism into the Android/OSGi platform, allowing service providers to upload their telematics bundles onto storage clouds using a provisioning server. A management agent in the Android/OSGi platform can simultaneously update its application service modules using remote storage clouds and use visual intelligence to continually change the distinguishing features of applications based on context-awareness without user intervention. To assess the feasibility of the proposed Android/OSGi platform, this study presents a vehicular testbed to determine the functionalities of different telematics applications. Android/OSGi platform applications require less memory and system resources than those on the original Android platform when performing complicated operations. Additionally, the Android/OSGi platform launches telematics services more quickly than the original Android platform. The proposed platform overcomes the problem of frequent non-responsive exceptions in the original Android platform.  相似文献

Doing business over the Internet is cheap and convenient. This enlarges the view of enterprises and gives them an opportunity to select their partners. To support business-to-business operations, an information system (IS) with an embedded workflow management component is needed. The inherent characteristics of such a system makes it suitable to implement cross-organization management. Nowadays, however, these system additions are not common. When developing a supply chain management (SCM) system for a large motorcycle corporation in China, we had to construct an inter-enterprise architecture using the internet. The main part of this is a workflow-supported inner supply chain system and an integrated interface. In it, the business processes are defined and executed by the supply chain management system. The independent inner systems are connected by the integrated interface into a large, global, supply chain manage system to management business processes across the independent enterprises. This paper presents the system design and implementation and discusses our experiences and lessons learned.  相似文献

This article investigates new techniques for the dimensioning and the effective exploitation of radio resources in integrated terrestrial-cellular and satellite systems. A dynamically configurable radio resource management policy is proposed. Its main feature is the differentiated handling of user mobile calls, based on the type of service (voice, symmetric data, asymmetric data), the nature of the call (originating or handoff call) and the user mobility class (pedestrian or vehicular). The output of the study is particularly useful to support the design of next-generation wireless systems, which are based on a hierarchical cell structure where different cell types (e.g., macrocell and microcell) operate together with an overlapping satellite coverage.  相似文献

Several goals such as improving road safety and increasing transport efficiency are being pursued in intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Wireless vehicular communication is one technology to achieve these goals. Conducting vehicular experiments on the roads is an approach to studying the effectiveness of wireless vehicular communication. However, such an approach is costly, hard-to-control (repeat), dangerous, and infeasible when many vehicles and people are involved in the field trial. In contrast, the simulation approach does not have these problems. It is a very useful approach and complements the field trial approach. This paper presents NCTUns, an open source integrated simulation platform, for wireless vehicular communication network researches. This tool tightly integrates network and traffic simulations and provides a fast feedback loop between them. Therefore, a simulated vehicle can quickly change its driving behavior such as moving speed and direction when it receives a message from the wireless vehicular communication network. This capability is required by several novel ITS applications such as active collision avoidance systems. In this paper, we present the design, implementation, validation, and performance of this tool.  相似文献
