A Senior-Graduate Level Course in Biomedical Instrumentation and Computing

A senior-graduate level course is described in which some of the material of traditional bioinstrumentation courses is presented in conjunction with laboratory applications of a minicomputer. During the course each student 1) learns aspects of the fundamental properties of bioelectrodes, transducers, and safe human biopotential measurement techniques, 2) uses a minicomputer as a laboratory instrument, and 3) initiates and completes two projects that require independent thinking, initiative, and careful execution. In the course of the computer applications the students 1) learn to use elements of a fairly sophisticated operating system (OS/8), 2) master a simple but powerful higher level computer language (Basic), 3) apply one or more sophisticated signal analysis programs to their biological data (time averaging, correlation, spectral analysis, time and post stimulus interval anaylsis), and 4) solve a "real world" problem that requires a nonsystem interface to the computer. The heavy emphasis on the laboratory portion of the course provides the opportunity for practical "hands-on" experience with bioinstrumentation and with computer based data acquisition, processing, and display techniques.

Direct Digital Control of a Glass Melter Refiner and Forehearths Using Small Computers

Highly reliable small digital computers can now be economically justified for use in control of melters, refiners, and forehearths. The advent of high fuel costs, high production rates, and air pollution requirements has now dictated the need for both a more precise and a higher level of control in the glass melting process. The digital system, utilizing the distributed logic concept, verifies sensor integrity, and is programmed to compensate for long process thermal lags, along with the incorporation of more sophisticated control techniques. The control system as described is for the manufacture of fiber glass. Alternate control system configurations are outlined, along with their features and benefits.     

应用图形处理器实现无功优化并行计算

以求解无功优化问题的内嵌离散惩罚非线性原对偶内点法为基础,利用高性能图形处理器实现了线性修正方程的并行求解。将计算密集部分在图形处理器上实现,其余部分在CPU上执行,并且采用单精度和双精度两种模式进行对照。该算法充分利用了图形处理器强大的并行处理能力和极高的存储器带宽,可获得显著的加速效果。在IEEE 118节点系统和实际538、1133和2212节点系统的计算表明,采用单精度浮点运算的无功优化计算速度最快,加速效果最好,在2212节点系统上的加速比达到近30倍。     

基于流体计算的求解水冷散热器热阻抗的方法

本文介绍了利用计算流体软件(CDF)Fluent计算大功率水冷散热器热阻和热抗的方法。通过对三维非定常流场和热场的求解,计算出不同流量下水冷散热器的热阻值和热抗值,为大功率变频器稳态和动态过程的温度计算提供了依据。     

利用插件技术开发机械零件参数计算系统

为了实现机械零件设计过程自动化，解决繁杂的各类参数计算问题，采用插件技术开发了一个能容纳大量计算插件的扩展性很强的机械零件参数计算系统。该软件的设计方案切实可行且具有很强实用价值，可以依照这个系统模型的标准接口要求开发新的计算模块，以提高设计效率，缩短机械产品的开发周期。

Posture Control for Personal Mobility Robot Using Feedback Compensation with Unstable Pole

This paper presents a novel posture control approach using feedback compensation with an unstable pole. For a narrow and small personal mobility robot (PMR), this is needed in order to control its posture for achieving quick turning and high acceleration. However, in the conventional control approach that uses the posture angle as a controlled variable, the zero moment point (ZMP) does not settle to the desired point in the following cases: an unknown disturbance force given to the PMR, a fluctuation in the center of gravity of the PMR, and a change in the conditions between the tires and the road surface. In this paper, a novel control method using feedback compensation with an unstable pole is proposed to achieve the desired ZMP in the steady state. The proposed controller changes the control input for the actuator of posture control to zero in order to achieve the desired posture angle. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified through experiments using a prototype of the PMR.

本文介绍用三相分离器加高含水分析仪计量油田的单井产量．用微型计算机实现数据采集，模型求解和报表输出．为了降低成本，简化操作，不使用ＣＲＴ，而是利用微机上的数码管显示器，喇叭和仅有的两个按键实现人机交互。测量软件用ＴｕｒｂｏＣ语言编写。实际运行表明，该装置取代了人工量油，并提高了数据的可靠性。     

Applying Computers to Time-Dependent Processes

Time-dependent (sequence control) processes lend themselves to control techniques that differ from those employed in other real-time control applications. Some tasks of the computer are time critical; however, many tasks can operate in a time-deferred mode to increase the utilization of the computer. Control systems for a pipeline operation are examples of this control philosophy. The computer is used to gather and display operational information, and execute certain predefined control sequences. Where possible, industry standard techniques are used in software definition.     

Biomedical Engineering in China

Biomedical engineering has had a remarkable growth in the past decade in China. With the significant increase in research funding in the past several years, our Chinese colleagues have enjoyed good times for biomedical engineering research and development. This special issue includes a collection of articles contributed by groups, which cover the broad spectrum of biomedical engineering research, including molecular imaging, cancer detection and treatment, health information technology, neural engineering, electrophysiology, and biomedical imaging.
