Many legacy systems have been created by using relational database operating not for the Internet expression. Since the relational database is not an efficient way for data explosion, electronic transfer of data, and electronic business on the Web, we introduce a methodology in which a relational schema will be translated to an Extensible Markup Language (XML) schema definition for creating an XML database that is a simple and efficient format on the Web. We apply the Indirect Schema Translation Method that is a semantic-based methodology in this project. The mechanism is that the Relational Schema will be translated into the conceptual model, an Extended Entity Relationship (EER) Model using Reverse Engineering. Afterward, the EER model will be mapped to an XML Schema Definition Language (XSD) Graph as an XML conceptual schema using Semantic Transformation. Finally, the XSD Graph will be mapped into the XSD as an XML logical schema in the process of Forward Engineering, and the data semantics of participation, cardinality, generalization, aggregation, categorization, N-ary and U-ary relationship are preserved in the translated XML schema definition.  相似文献

Although many firms have rapidly and enthusiastically adopted distributed architectures, many more are stuck with mainframe based mission-critical systems that continue to isolate them from their partner, supplier, and customer systems. Most companies want to transform their applications to meet new business demands, but because legacy systems tend to be unwieldy, monolithic, and inflexible, many firms regard modernization as somewhere between improbable and impossible. Reeling from the Y2K debacle and saddled with years of application backlog, the most these companies can hope for is to keep their legacy system alive. And keeping it alive is getting more expensive. It is also becoming harder to find qualified personnel to do the maintenance. All of this makes it difficult to add new functionality and keep up with business requirements. The ideal solution is to transform legacy systems to newer, more productive platforms so that companies can exploit faster and cheaper development technologies, like Java and XML (Extensible Markup Language). The focus then shifts to functionality, not the infrastructure, which means a company can respond more quickly to its changing business requirements and technology enhancements. XML是因特网中不同企业之间进行信息交流的一种标准的数据转换模式,为了加速数据之间的转换,企业组织通过定义公共数据文档接口来实现基于XML的应用。本文提出了一种新的将关系数据模式转换为XML模式的方法。在转换的过程中,不仅考虑关系模式的结构,而且考虑语义约束,比如内部函数依赖。该方法的输入模式是具有多值函数依赖的关系模式,输出模式是X-Schema。最后,通过实验对该转换方法进行了验证。  相似文献

This paper discusses the impact analysis of the Extensible Markup Language (XML). Each business partner within a supply chain will be allowed to generate its own data exchange format by adopting an XML meta-data management system in the local side. Followed after a brief introduction of the information technology for Business to Customer (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B) Electronic Commerce (EC), the impact of XML on the tomorrow business world is discussed. Over the past few years, XML (Extensible Markup Language) has become the standard for data and document interchange between distributed systems. With the continuing proliferation of the Internet, XML has also become a key technology for transactional e-business. A large percentage of Internet interactions, however, involves searching through documents, Web pages, databases, and other information resources. This article explores some of the ways XML can improve these types of searches. Most engineering analysis programs rely on customized procedures for storing and accessing scientific data. The size of the data set needed to characterize an engineering problem can be substantial, particularly as the problem increases in complexity. This paper presents a methodology for greatly improving the accessibility of scientific data using the Extensible Markup Language (XML) to define a consistent procedure for data storage and retrieval. When the data is expressed in an XML format, any portion of the data set can be easily accessed by interfacing with an XML parser. Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a common standard for data representation and exchange over the Web. Considering the increasing need for managing data on the Web, integration techniques are required to access heterogeneous XML sources. In this paper, we describe a unification method for heterogeneous XML schemata. The input to the unification method is a set of object-oriented-based canonical schemata that conceptually abstract local Document Type Definitions of the involved sources. The unification process applies specific algorithms and rules to the concepts of the canonical schemata to generate a preliminary ontology. Further adjustments on this preliminary ontology generate a reference ontology that acts as a front-end for user queries to the XML sources.  相似文献

This paper studies certain transformations of XML schemas, which are widely used in algorithms of the XML data management. In view of the fact that properties and functional characteristics of the XML documents considerably differ from those of data of other type, the solutions of a number of typical data management problems (such as the XML data validation, schema inference, and data translation to/from other models) for them are more complicated. The general idea of our approach to solving these problems is to transform the original structure (i.e., structural schema constraints) into another structure without loss of information about properties of the original data that are important for applications. The suggested technique has been successfully used in various algorithms for solving problems of this kind. In this paper, a systematic approach to solving these problems is discussed. Methods for reducing the XML schemas to several canonical forms are presented, and algorithms of solving the management problems for data satisfying schemas represented in the canonical forms are examined.  相似文献

基于XML设计了一种Petri网(SIPN)的交换格式。XML是具有数据描述功能、高度结构性及可验证性的语言,首先设计了SIPN的Schema文件,并根据该Schema文件将SIPN图形转化成XML格式文件,该文件包含了SIPN的图形和语义信息。利用DOM对该XML格式的SIPN模型进行解析,可以提取模型的关键信息,为应用程序提供一个接口,这可以推动基于Petri网的应用程序开发,实例证明该方法具有很好的实用性和可扩展性,可以用于其它扩展Petri网格式的设计。  相似文献
