ABSTRACT

The heat and mass transfer during freeze drying of raw beef by different heating methods is studied theoretically and experimentally. The difference between radiant heating and microwave heating in freeze drying process has been analyzed. Abstract

A model was formulated for a batch adsorber or ion exchange device with heat generation inside the bulk liquid due to mixing or electrical heating and due to heat of adsorption. Internal and external particle mass and heat transfer gradients and heat transfer through the vessel wall were included. The effective diffusion coefficient was taken to be temperature dependent. Numerical calculations (by orthogonal collocation) give conditions for the existence of intra particle nonisothermity and show the effect of mixing and process temperature on adsorption kinetics.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

An investigation of the thermal drying of lignite has been carried out, by using an indirect heat pilot rotary drum. The process aims at the production of dry lignite and clean steam as part of a gasification procedure. Both flighted and bare drum modes have been employed. Temperature profiles along the dryer length, the amount of evaporation (moisture conversion) and the solids residence time distribution (RTD) were measured. A non-isothermal model was tested under three different regimes of solids flow. Model integration, by taking account of experimental amount of evaporation at dryer exit and temperature profiles along the dryer length, has been utilized in the validation of drying kinetics and heat transfer correlations. Model predictions compare satisfactorily with the operating data of an indirect heat industrial lignite dryer. Overall heat transfer coefficients of the pilot rotary dryer were found to agree well with those reported for direct heat dryers.  相似文献

Abstract

The deep bed drying modelling of hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) have been studied by considering the deep bed as a series of thin layers. A partial differential equations model has been developed to simulate heat and mass transfer in fixed deep bed hazelnut dryers. The computer program developed permits the calculation of temperature and moisture content profiles along the dryer. As a process of validation of the model, the predicted and experimental results of average moisture content of the whole bed were compared. It has been observed that the simulation results agreed quite well with experimental data.  相似文献

The present study proposes the development of a complete mathematical modelling transfer phenomena involving at the same time heat, mass and momentum transfer during the drying process of clay. Clay is a generic example of colloid materials forming particulate gels. That can be considered as bi-constituent, homogeneous, isotropic, and highly deformable. The model was numerically solved by the finite difference method and validated by comparison of the numerical results with a previous set of experiments data. The simulation has allowed the determination of spatio-temporal evolution within the solid of different variables: temperature fields, moisture contents, displacement, deformation and stresses. The parametric sensibility has been analyzed in the case of thermophysical properties and the external heat transfer coefficient. Various values of external conditions have been analyzed.  相似文献

The drying behavior of a single rice kernel subjected to convective drying was analyzed numerically by solving heat and moisture transfer equations using a coupled computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and diffusion model. The transfer coefficients were computed simultaneously with the external flow field and the internal diffusive field of the grain. The model was validated using results of a thin-layer drying experiments from the literature. The effects of velocity and temperature of the drying air on the rice kernel were analyzed. It was found that the air temperature was the major variable that affected the drying rate of the rice kernel. The initial drying rates (in first 20 min) were 7, 12, and 19% per hour at inlet air temperatures of 30, 45, and 60 ° C, respectively. Important temperature gradients within the grain existed only in the first few minutes of the drying process. The moisture content gradients reached a maximum value of 11.7% (db) mm ?1 at approximately 45 min along the short axis in the thickness direction. The variation in the inlet air velocity showed a minor effect on the drying rate of the rice kernel. The heat and mass transfer coefficients varied from 16.57 to 203.46 W·m ?2·K ?1 and from 0.0160 to 0.1959 m·s ?1, respectively. The importance of the computation of the transfer coefficients with the heat and mass transfer model is demonstrated.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Immersion frying was studied as a high temperature drying process and analogies drawn between periods found in drying and similar periods in immersion frying. Analysis of external heat transfer during immersion frying showed a highly complex system of free and forced convection augmented by boiling conditions. Oil flow was found to be driven downward by buoyancy forces due to cooling at the sample surface then upward due to entrainment in vapor bubbles during boiling conditions. Experimental work showed the convective heat transfer coefficient to be a dynamic property ranging from 300 to 1100 W/m2°C and to be strongly coupled with bulk movement of the oil. Heat flux measurements found a peak flux of nearly 30,000 W/m3. Based on analysis of bubble dynamics it is hypothesized that heat flux increases with increased oil degradation through a reduction in vapor bubble size and increase in bubble frequency due to changes in interfacial properties of the oil.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A mathematical model for high-temperature drying of softwood lumber with moist air has been modified and extended to simulate wood drying with superheated steam. In the simulation, differences between the two types of drying are considered, these include: external heat and mass transfer processes and calculation of equilibrium moisture content. The external mass transfer coefficient in the perheated steam drying was found to be much higher than that in the moist air drying, however, the heat ransfer coefficients for these two cases were of the same order. The predicted drying curves and wood temperatures from the superheated steam drying model were compared with experimental data and there was close agreement. Further studies will apply the model to development of commercial drying schedules for wood drying with superheated steam.  相似文献

In coating and gravure printing, an impinging jet nozzle with high thermal efficiency for drying of coated film was developed.

Trial production 0f 40 kinds of nozzle enables to develop a high-performance impinging jet nozzle with heat transfer coefficient 1.5 times larger than that of current slit nozzle, through measurement of heat transfer coefficient, visualizations of air flow and heat transfer, and measuremenu of jet velocity and turbulence distribution. The purpose of the trial production was to expand a range of high heat transfer and promote turbulence compared with the current nozzle.

Paying attention to mass transfer within gravure ink coated film, drying characteristic of the film was analyzed by numerical solution of a set of equations governing the drying process in which concentration dependencies 0f the diffusion coefficient and the equilibrium vapor pressure were considered.

Applying these analyses. an industrial scale dryer with excellent drying efficiency has finally been developed.  相似文献

A mathematical model has been developed to describe heat and mass transfer within materials undergoing shrinkage during drying. Both heat and mass transfer equations are solved simultaneously using a numerical technique A beat pump dryer has been used to conduct experiments to validate the model. Several samples were placed in the drver and after the commencement of each drying test one sample was taken oat at rceular time interval: The bone-dry mass of each piece was also determined. This enables to determine moisture distribution within the materials. Temperatures at different locations of the material were measured with thermocouples. The predicted temperature and moisture distribution within the material agreed fairly well with the experimental results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a unified model for simulation of cocurrent and countercurrent dispersion-type dryers. The main industrial applications are to pneumatic conveying (flash) dryers and cascading (direct) rotary dryers. The basic model is a one-dimensional incremental (stepwise) simulation, which has been developed over a number of years Equations for particle motion, heat and mass transfer, heat and mass balances and local gas conditions are solved simultaneously over a small increment along the dryer. All workers have previously had considerable difficulty in obtaining a good fit between simulations and actual results from pilot-plants or large-scale industrial dryers. A new “fitting mode” calculation overcomes this by identifying the parameters which need to be adjusted, concentrating on those which cannot be measured accurately. Excellent agreement has been obtained between the model and experimental data by this method. The paper also presents revised formulations for particle motion and heat transfer in rotary dryers. The model has been incorporated into two computer programs for flash and rotary dryers respectively, and results from the former are shown for a case study.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this investigation is to compare various drying models with respect to (a) the accuracy in calculating the material moisture content and temperature versus time and (b) the computation time required.

Mechanistic as well as phenomenological heat and mass transfer models are considered. The mechanistic models are formulated by considering different combinations of mechanisms between (1) moisture diffusion in the solid towards its external surface (2) vaporization and convective transfer of the vapor into the air stream (3) convective heat transfer from the air to the solid's surface (4) conductive heat transfer within the solid mass. The phenomenological model incorporates the drying constant while the mechanistic models incorporate the mass diffusivity, the mass transfer coefficient in the air boundary layer, the thermal conductivity, and the heat transfer coefficient in the air boundary layer.

The proposed methodology is applied to experimental data of four vegetables, namely, potato, onion, carrot, and green pepper. The experiments involve three thickness levels, five temperatures, three water activities, and three air velocities. The results obtained concern (a) the standard deviations between experimental and calculated values of material moisture content andtemperature, which, in combination with the computation time, are the necessary information for model selection for a special application, and (b) the model parameter estimates which are necessary to use the selected model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A mathematical model has been developed to study the drying of paper using a gas-fired IR dryer. The model accounts for various phenomena : water and vapour mass transfer, conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer. The phenomenological equations are solved with a finite difference scheme, including a modified upwind differencing scheme to account for water migration within the paper sheet. The simulation results illustrate the basic underlying phenomena involved in IR paper drying and can be instrumental to the engineer to make the detailed analyses of such a drying process. A sensitivity analysis has shown that the drying rate is most sensitive to parameters governing the IR beat transfer process whereas the paper sheet temperature is most sensitive to parameters governing the mass transfer process with the surroundings.  相似文献

A study of simultaneous heat and mass transfer during drying an infinite cylinder shape material (twigs of ilex paraguayenais saint hilaire) was carried out. The finite-difference method was used to solve the drying model and a simultaneous heat and mass balance in each node was made. Models with different assumptions were tested and the external mass transfer coefficient was used as a parameter to fit the model to experimental data. The thickness of the node and the time step were selected considering the system stability.

Drying temperature, twig diameter and air velocity were selected as study variables. The models results were in good agreement with experimental measurements giving mass coefficient values between 1.97 10?4and 9.55 10?4 Kg/m2 s.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A mathematical model has been successfully developed to study the heat and mass transfer process during paper drying. This model takes into account the consective transfer of vapor and liquid apart from the known transport mechanisms of capillary flow of liquid, diffusion, vaporization-condensation, and heat conduction. The partial differential equations describing temperature, saturation and pressure change within the web during drying with associated boimdary conditions and initial conditions were solved using finite difference method. The model predictions show that during the drying process the web can be conveniently divided into three different zones, namely dry zone, wet zone and an intermediate zone. The movement of liquid and vapor in opposite directions in the intermediate zone is similar to the action of a heat pipe. Also, as drying proceeds the location of the intermediate zone and hence the heat pipe advances progressively through the thickness of the web.  相似文献

A model for a pneumatic conveying dryer is presented. Although the main emphasis is put on superheated steam drying of wood chips, it can be used for other porous materials as well

The model includes a comprehensive two-dimensional model for the drying of single wood chips which accounts for the main physical mechanisms occurring in wood during drying. The external drying conditions in a pneumatic conveying dryer were calculated by applying the mass, heat and momentum equations for each incremental step in dryer length. A plug flow assumption was made for the dryer model and the single particle and dryer models were solved in an iterative manner. The non-spherical nature of wood chips were accounted for by measuring the drag and heat transfer coefficients

Model calculations illustrate the complex interactions between steam, particles and walls which occur in a flash dryer. The drying rate varies in a very complex manner through the dryer. The internal resistance to mass transfer becomes very important in The drying of less permeable wood species such as spruce. Two effects were observed as the particle size was increased: firstly the heat transfer rate decreased, and secondly the residence time increased. To some extent, these effects compensate for each other, however, the net result is that larger chips have a higher final moisture content.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In the production of MDF, wet resinated fibre must be dried to its target moisture content, normally 9 to 11%, before compaction into a board by hot pressing. Fibre drying can be interpreted as an incorporated process involving gas-solid two phase-flow, inter-component transfer, and heat and mass transfer within the fibre. Based on these mechanisms, a mathematical model has been developed to simulate the MDF fibre drying process. From the model, fibre moisture content, air temperature and air humidity along the dryer length can be predicted and factors affecting the drying rate examined. The model can be employed to optimise drying conditions and to evaluate improvements in dryer design. A case study of drying improvement in reduction of dryer emissions and heat consumption is given to demonstrate the potential application of the developed dryer model.  相似文献

Drying curves obtained in a pilot-scale fluidized bed dryer using biological source solids (sawdust, soya and fish meal) were used to estimate the parameters involved in heat and mass transfer phenomenas: heat transfer coefficient and moisture diffusivity coefficient. Parameters involved in mass transfer were estimated from drying models based on diffusional mechanisms and others that in addition consider internal and external resistance to the mass transfer. The estimate ef ective diffusivity coefficient was between 2x10-11 to lx10 (m2/s) for the considered products. Heat transfer coefficient was estimated from drying data points in the constant drying rate period when the external resistance to the mass transfer controls the process.  相似文献
