Digital baseband and digital subcarrier noncoherent optical communication systems are considered in this paper. Expressions are developed for the bit error probability of optical subcarrier systems which use a nonliner polarization modulator and either a one-detector or a two-detector receiver, The expressions are evaluated numerically, and the results are used to compare the one- and two-detector subcarrier systems with the corresponding one- and two-detector baseband systems for a fLxed bit error probability. 相似文献

We evaluate and compare bit error rates for conventional (linear and nonlinear) repeater satellites and regenerative satellites. This work is based on a new formulation for error rates using the generalized moment technique for numerical evaluation of error rates. Both coherent MPSK and noncoherent MFSK modulations are considered with regenerative satellites. The results show that regenerative satellites are especially effective against uplink CW interference when on-board despreading of spread spectrum signals is included as part of the satellite processing. 相似文献

This paper is devoted to the derivation of an exact analytical expression of the bit error rate for chaos-based DS-CDMA systems.
For the studied transmission system, we suppose that synchronization is achieved perfectly, coherent reception is considered,
and an Additive White Gaussian Noise channel (AWGN) is assumed. In the first part of the paper, performance of a mono-user
system with different chaotic sequences is evaluated and compared in terms of the error probability. This comparison is realized
thanks to the probability density function of the bit energy of a chaotic sequence. The bit error rate can be easily derived
by numerical integration. In some particular cases, for certain chaotic sequences with known probability density function
of bit energy, we propose an analytical expression of the bit error. In the second part of the paper, the performance of a
chaos-based DS-CDMA system is evaluated in the multi-user case. A general conclusion is that probability density function
of chaos bit energy, for a given spreading factor, can give a clear idea about how to choose a “good” chaotic sequence for

Computer simulation is often used to estimate the bit error rate (BER) performance of digital communication systems. There are a number of distinct techniques in the simulation context that can be used to construct this estimate. A tutorial exposition of such techniques is provided, with particular reference to five specific methods which can be implemented in a simulation. These methods range from the traditional Monte Carlo trials to assumption of definite forms for the noise statistics. In this letter, we address the problem of finding a tractable expression for the bit-error outage (BEO) defined as the probability to observe a given average bit error rate (BER) over a fading channel in a shadowing environment. Our contribution is two-fold: (1) a simple yet tight approximation of the bit error probability (BEP) for binary phase shift keying (BPSK) over a frequency-flat Nakagami-m fading channel is derived, which (2) facilitates the derivation of a tight lower bound of the BEO in presence of lognormal shadowing in closed form. In this paper we propose a method for on-line estimation of Bit Error Rate during turbo decoding. We model the log-likelihood ratios as a mixture of two Gaussian random variables and derive estimators for the mean and variance of these distributions based on a Maximum-Likelihood approach. The parameter estimates are then employed to calculate the cross-over area of the Gaussian tails to estimate BER at each decoder iteration. Standard references show the effects of carrier phase jitter on the performance of digital communications equipment as curves of bit error rate versus signal-to-noise ratio for constant values of jitter variance. In any real system, the variance consists of a relatively small constant component and a component which is inversely proportional to signal-to-noise ratio. This correspondence presents revised calculations of bit error rate for a number of values of the constant variance component and the proportionality constant. 光束的偏振特性在大气传输中变化比较小,因而偏振移位键控调制具有较高的可靠性。以星地激光通信为背景,研究星地激光通信链路的圆偏振移位键控调制的误码率性能。考虑到大气湍流的影响,采用Hufnagle-Valley大气折射结构常数模型,在Rytov方差分别为0.082,1.11这两种弱、强湍流起伏条件下,通过对比圆偏振移位键控调制和直接检测开-关键控调制的误码率,得到了同等湍流起伏条件下前者误码率性能比后者突出的结论。特别是Rytov方差为0.082时,要达到10-7的误码率,它们对信噪比的要求分别是21.65dB和30dB,圆偏振移位键控调制对信噪比的要求降低了8.35dB。此外,还分析了近地面折射结构常数、天顶角和地面风速这3个因素对误码率的影响,仿真结果表明圆偏振移位键控调制的误码率比直接检测开-关键控调制最少降低2个数量级。因此,圆偏振移位键控调制在未来星地激光通信中有着广阔的发展前景。 相似文献

A unified method for approximating and bounding the average bit error probability for spread-spectrum multiple-access communication systems is presented. Various forms of direct-sequence spreadspectrum modulation are considered including binary phase-shift keying, quadriphase-shift keying, and minimum-shift keying. The analysis of the multiple-access interference makes use of a number of moments sufficent to evaluate the error probability with a high degree of accuracy. A computationally efficient algorithm for computing the moments is also given. The subsequent transformation from the moments to the average bit error probability is carried out by means of Gauss-type numerical integration formulas. It is shown that the same approach can be exploited for evaluating two classes of upper and lower bounds on the bit error rate. Finally, some results and comparisons are reported. 相似文献
