Characteristics affecting management of design information in the production system design process

Although it has been argued that the design of production systems is crucial, there is a general lack of empirical studies analysing and identifying resources and capabilities required for an efficient production system design process. One of these resources is the critical role attributed to design information and one such capability is how the design information is managed. To address this research gap, this paper reports the results from two in-depth case studies in the automotive industry focusing on the management of design information in the production system design process. Our results show that design information management needs to be understood as a multidimensional concept having three dimensions: acquiring, sharing and using design information. By focusing on the three dimensions, six characteristics affecting the management of design information when designing the production system are identified. The characteristics are information type, source of information, communication medium, formalisation, information quality and pragmatic information.

The development of computer-based information systems has always been a complex task demanding high-level skills on the part of the designers. And yet there is still confusion about the meaning of design, and its associated skills, in this area. This paper addresses the ways in which methodological guidelines have been proposed over recent years, and attempts to evaluate their benefits and disadvantages. It draws conclusions about the future directions of design strategies for producing information systems.     

基于经验模态分解的发动机脉动压力数据分析

在机载测试技术中,机载数据总线数据量急剧增加,数据处理越来越趋于复杂化,软件可复用性的要求越来越高。为满足这些需求,将抽象工厂模式的思想应用到航空总线数据处理中,根据抽象工厂的特点和适用场景,将总线数据按照类型进行实例化,形成对外统一的接口,然后对不同的总线接口进行数据处理。该接口只与总线的协议标准和技术特点有关,不依赖于具体信号,因此实现了数据处理的通用化,突破了原来面向各个接口信号分别处理的思想,从而实现了软件可复用的要求,提高了机载总线数据处理的效率和可靠性。

The development of a strategic information system applied to packaging design

This study aims to develop a strategic information system applied to packaging design. Previously, we could not computerize the whole packaging design process because:

• (i) The safety factors with respect to the various environmental conditions of distribution had not been determined accurately
• (ii) The pallet loading pattern could not be found by means of computational algorithms approximating the judgment of expert operators
• (iii) There were no methods for inputting data except through the keyboard

As described in this report, we derived the degradation factor concerning the actual compressive strength through various experiments and structured a rulebase using specialized deductions based on the intuition and long years of experience of our engineers. The results of this study show that it is now possible to develop a strategic information system applied to packaging design, combining the database, production-rule-based systems for pallet loading pattern, compressive strength analysis and barcode system.
