Over the last 50 years, thermal spraying has evolved and is now capable of depositing free-standing materials onto mandrels at thicknesses exceeding 100 mm. Advances in processing (including high-velocity oxy-fuel, inert/chamber plasma spray, and improved powder compositions and morphologies) have combined to enable the successful implementation of thermal-spray forming for both monolithic and composite materials. Structures of reinforced concrete attacked by chlorides from de‐icing salts can be repaired by use of electrochemical methods, such as Chloride Extraction (CE). This article describes an experiment to investigate the relationship between the electrical charge applied, the chloride contents in the concrete before and after the extraction process, and the amount of chlorides in the electrolyte in order to get knowledge about the efficiency of a CE application. To be competitive in the global automobile industry, it is no longer enough to understand manufacturing cost alone. The growing emphasis on environmental impact has forced life-cycle cost issues to the forefront. This article defines the life cycle of automotive structures and exterior panels—the body-in-white—to include manufacturing, operation, and post-use. These body-in-white life-cycle costs are assessed for a midsize, four-door sedan using an implementation of a technique called technical cost modeling. This article describes the life-cycle cost-assessment methodology and applies it for alternative body-in-white structure and exterior panel materials. These include steel stampings; aluminum stampings, extrusions, and castings; and resin/glass composite and thermoplastic moldings. The life-cycle costs are presented and analyzed for varying manufacturing scenarios. Although life-cycle costs currently do not drive the decision-making process in the automotive industries, legislative and consumer pressures could one day give them added weight.  相似文献

The advancement of x-ray diffraction theory and techniques, combined with established diffusion models, enables the rate controlling parameter(s) of a transformation or reaction process to be conveniently measured in an in-situ manner. This article briefly describes the technique employed for kinetics measurements and analytical procedures required for data interpretation. Two approaches are adopted to extract the interdiffusion coefficient from the kinetics data—the direct space approach and the reciprocal space approach. Three examples are presented to demonstrate the usefulness of this analysis: the growth kinetics of a Pd2Si layer on Si, the decomposition kinetics of a supersaturated Ni-Si alloy, and the short range ordering of a nonrandom solid solution.  相似文献

The developments in the aluminum markets demand that more use be made of the information available within a smelter. Quality must be made measurable and verifiable; the organization continually must be optimized, and the production processes must be steadily improved. Costs have to be supervised, deviations immediately reported, countermeasures taken at once. These elements offer protection against the pressure of the market and allow competitive high-tech products to be produced and timely investments to be targeted and made. With the help of information technology, it is ever more possible to keep up with these demands. This article describes the design and realization of a completely integrated data transmission system in a modern aluminum smelter operated by VAW Aluminium AG.
