Water chemistry of the system for cooling the electrical generator’ stator of the power unit at a thermal power station

Results from studies of the water chemistry used in the system for cooling the stator windings of alternators used in supercritical-pressure power units are presented, and a solution is suggested using which the standardized pH value of cooling water is maintained in the range 8.0–9.0. It is shown that addition of NaOH in the water cooling system when a drop of pH value occurs cannot fully satisfy the requirements of the operating circular due to low buffer properties of aqueous medium.     

SG released the information on electric energy transactions in the first three quarters

On October 20, the State Grid Corporation (SG) released transaction information in electricity market for the first three quarters of 2006 within the area covered by the corporation. It showed that in the first three quarters, the volume of trans-regional electric energy trade of SG amounted to 85.12 TWh, increasing 17.1% over that of the corresponding period last year. The volume of inter-provincial exchange was 111.4 TWh, increasing 13.68%. Power purchased by SG from generation enterprises amounted to 1243.924 TWh, up 13.04% on a year-on-year basis.     

Modal Analysis of the GTD Diffraction Coefficients for the Half-Plane’s Edge

The GTD diffraction coefficients for the half-planes edge are obtained by a new semi-analytic approach: From the modal expansion of the Greens function of an acoustically soft or hard wedge the total field due an incident plane wave is derived by locating a line source at infinity and by transforming the incident line-source field to an incident plane-wave field. By means of the second Greens theorem and by using the bilinear form of the free-space Greens function, the scattered far field is obtained from the exact field values on the wedges flanks. The isolated edge-diffracted part can be identified as the difference between the far field scattered by a half plane and one half of the far field scattered by the entire plane. The obtained alternating and —in the classical sense— non-converging series are numerically evaluated by means of a linear (consistent) summation technique, and the comparison to Kellers result shows excellent agreement. The main advantage of this new method is that it can be applied to a certain class of more difficult problems (circular and elliptic cone, plane angular sector, etc.).

What is the state of development of retail electricity markets in the EU?

For our research, which aims to provide a thorough approach to assessing the development of the retail electricity market in the EU, we tested the hypotheses that the number of suppliers in the retail markets of EU member states has increased significantly over the past decade, and that in the same period, the number of suppliers entering the retail markets of EU member states increased significantly with market liberalisation. We also collected data on the number of electricity suppliers to end-consumers in EU member states between 2010 and 2017, and used the Kruskal-Wallis test for verification, which was also used to establish the ratio between electricity consumers and suppliers between 2010 and 2017. A thorough overview of current scientific findings led us to contemplate a possible combination to measure the dynamics and assess the energy market development, since several authors indicate that no method has been fully accepted as standardised for a thorough assessment of the energy market development. Therefore, a combination of indicators to measure the dynamics and assess the energy market development is proposed in the conclusion of this article, which brings important implications for science and specifically for politics and experts.     

Insuring the penalty risk of non-delivery in the United Kingdom’s capacity market

In July 2021, the United Kingdom (UK) Government considered tripling the UK grid’s performance-based incentive scheme’s penalty for capacity non-delivery during a shortage. This paper proposes an insurance that a generator may buy to manage its risk exposure to the scheme’s penalty. It also shows how to use readily available data to calculate the insurance’s per MW premium. These findings suggest that the proposed insurance deserves consideration by generators and insurance sellers.

Development of hydropower resources on the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River

China covers a vast territory with many rivers and richhydropower potential.China's exploitable hydropowercapacity amounts to 378 GW which corresponds to an annual powergeneration of 1920 TWh.This makes China the leading country inthe world as far as hydropower resources are concerned.At the end of 1990,the country's hydro capacity developedwas 36.0 GW,accounting for 26.1% of the country's total,with anannual electricity production of 126.4 TWh,accounting for almost20.34% of the country's total.By the end of this century,China's hydropower capacity willreach 75-80 GW,constituting 19.8-21.1% of the country's     

Upgrading the flow path of the K-500-6.4/3000 turbine’s low-pressure cylinder to increase the turbine power output

Results obtained from upgrading the flow paths of the low-pressure cylinders of OAO Turboatom K-500-6.4/3000 steam turbines installed at the Kursk, Smolensk, and Leningrad nuclear power stations are presented. With the annular area of steam outlet from the last stages increased from 6.3 to 8.19 m², it became possible to reduce the loss due to outlet velocity by a factor of 1.8 and increase the turbine power output by 16MW, which is equivalent to increasing the power unit efficiency by 3.2%.
