Photovoltaic (PV) solar energy installations are growing all over the world as a promising renewable alternative to generate electricity. However, many studies have highlighted some drawbacks associated with the installation and operation of conventional solar energy power plants. Thus, floating photovoltaic (FPV) systems have been emerging as a new concept in solar energy to lessen negative environmental impacts caused by allocation of conventional PV facilities. This paper is an overview of the potential negative and positive environmental impacts caused by photovoltaic systems with particular interest on large-scale conventional and floating photovoltaic. This study addresses and compares the impacts at all phases of project implementation, which covers planning, construction, and operation and decommissioning, focusing on ambient located in the tropics. The overall impacts associated with project allocation such as deforestation (for the project implementation and site accessing), bird mortality, erosion, runoff, and change in microclimate are expected to have higher magnitudes for the implementation of conventional PV facilities. The results highlight advantages of FPV over conventional PV during the operational and decommissioning phases as well. Though, further studies are required to assess both qualitative and quantitative aspects of installations in similar areas. 相似文献

The steady state and time resolved spectroscopic studies reveal that two xanthene dyes Rhodamine 6G (R6G) and Rhodamine B (RB), used in the present investigations, form ground state hydrogen -bonded complexes with meso-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP). However, it is apparent that upon photoexcitation the H-bonding complexes formed in the ground state decompose into the individual reacting components. This presumption was confirmed from the observation of the presence of only static quenching mode in the steady state fluorescence of the dyes in presence of porphyrin. The photoelectrochemical properties of the free dyes and the mixtures of each dye with porphyrin are investigated by measuring incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) using ZnO electrode and also with TiO2 electrode. It is seen that Rhodamine B-porphyrin mixture has attained maximum IPCE among the four samples studied at approximately 550 nm using ZnO electrode. Using TiO2 electrode, slight improvement in the value of IPCE was found for the same mixture. Therefore Rhodamine B-porphyrin mixture may act as a good sensitizer for converting solar energy to electrical energy. 相似文献

It has been shown that papers in stem cell research submitted from institutions in the USA are accepted faster than those submitted from elsewhere and that the cause might at least partly be some bias in the refereeing process. We investigate whether there is a similar difference in time scale for papers in astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology and look briefly at some of the possible causes. We find a publication time lag of 3.8 days (out of a median time of 105 days) while in the stem cell case it is 24 days out of a median of 83 days. One of many possible causes is a difference in how useful the papers are to the community, and we will assess this in a second paper making use of citation analysis. 相似文献

Context: LR-peptide, a novel hydrophilic peptide synthetized and characterized in previous work, is able to reduce the multi-drug resistance response in cisplatin ( cDPP) resistant cancer cells by inhibiting human thymidylate synthase (hTS) overexpressed in several tumors, including ovarian and colon-rectal cancers, but it is unable to enter the cells spontaneously. Objective: The aim of this work was to design and characterize liposomal vesicles as drug delivery systems for the LR peptide, evaluating the possible benefits of the pH-responsive feature in improving intracellular delivery. Materials and methods: For this purpose, conventional and pH-sensitive liposomes were formulated, compared regarding their physical-chemical properties (size, PDI, morphology, in vitro stability and drug release) and studied for in vitro cytotoxicity against a cDDP-resistant cancer cells. Results and discussion: Results indicated that LR peptide was successfully encapsulated in both liposomal formulations but at short incubation time only LR loaded pH-sensitive liposomes showed cell inhibition activity while for long incubation time the two kinds of liposomes demonstrated the same efficacy. Conclusions: Data provide evidence that acidic pH-triggered liposomal delivery is able to significantly reduce the time required by the systems to deliver the drug to the cells without inducing an enhancement of the efficacy of the drug. 相似文献

This study examines the relationship between academic seniority and research productivity through a study of a sample of academics at Australian law schools. To measure research productivity, we use both publications in top law journals, variously defined, and citation metrics. A feature of the study is that we pay particular attention to addressing the endogeneity of academic rank. To do so, we use a novel identification strategy, proposed by Lewbel (Journal of Business and Economic Statistics 30:67–80, 2012), which utilises a heteroscedastic covariance restriction to construct an internal instrumental variable. Our main finding is that once endogeneity of academic rank is addressed, more senior academics at Australian law schools do not publish more articles in top law journals (irrespective of how top law journals are defined) than their less senior colleagues. However, Professors continue to have greater impact than Lecturers when research productivity is measured in terms of total citations and common citation indices, such as the h-index and g-index. 相似文献

A typical bibliometric methodology is used to study the performance of all Italian university researchers active in the hard sciences, for the period 2004–2008. Productivity and citedness of the staff of a German medical research institution are analyzed. It was found in our previous study (Pudovkin et al.: Scientometrics, doi: 10.1007/s11192-012-0659-z, 2012) that male scientists are more prolific and cited more often than female scientists. We explain in our present study one of the possible causes for obtaining this result with reference to Abramo et al. (Scientometrics 84(3): 821?C833, 2009), who found in the small subgroups of star scientists a higher performance of male star scientists with respect to female star scientists; but in the remaining complementary subpopulations the performance gap between the two sexes is marginal. In agreement with Abramo et al. ( 2009), in our small subgroup of star scientists a higher performance of male star scientists with respect to female star scientists could be found. Contrasting, in the large complementary subgroup even a slightly higher performance of female scientists with respect to male scientists was identified. The last is even stronger expressed in favor of women than Abramo??s result that the performance gap between the two sexes is truly marginal. In addition to Abramo et al. ( 2009), we already found in our previous study, special indexes characterizing the quality of papers (but not quantity) are not substantially different among sexes compared. 相似文献

The objective of this study is to find out whether methodological papers published in core sociological journals are more frequently cited than theoretical or empirical (substantive) papers. The results indicate that such is indeed the case; moreover, this result is not due to a few outlying, very highly cited papers. These findings are based on all the methodological and theoretical papers, and a sample of the empirical papers, published in 1972 and 1973 in three high-impact sociological journals. The citation counts for these papers were compiled from the Social Science Citation Index for the years 1972–1981. The data were analyzed separately for each journal and year of publication. 相似文献

In the last two decades there have been studies claiming that science is becoming ever more interdisciplinary. However, the
evidence has been anecdotal or partial. Here we investigate how the degree of interdisciplinarity has changed between 1975
and 2005 over six research domains. To do so, we compute well-established bibliometric indicators alongside a new index of
interdisciplinarity (Integration score, aka Rao-Stirling diversity) and a science mapping visualization method. The results
attest to notable changes in research practices over this 30 year period, namely major increases in number of cited disciplines
and references per article (both show about 50% growth), and co-authors per article (about 75% growth). However, the new index
of interdisciplinarity only shows a modest increase (mostly around 5% growth). Science maps hint that this is because the
distribution of citations of an article remains mainly within neighboring disciplinary areas. These findings suggest that
science is indeed becoming more interdisciplinary, but in small steps — drawing mainly from neighboring fields and only modestly
increasing the connections to distant cognitive areas. The combination of metrics and overlay science maps provides general
benchmarks for future studies of interdisciplinary research characteristics. 相似文献

The current status of nanoindentation apparatus and the requirements for extension to more than one dimension of loading is described. It is possible, though not trivial, to adequately characterise the stiffnesses and couplings present in a frictional contact and thus expand the present use of nanoindentation to important new areas. To successfully manage today’s complex production systems it is essential to study operators’ perception of the system. The paper presents perceived production complexity assessed at seven manufacturing companies with the CompleXity Index (CXI) method. While other methods have measured product variants, layout, work content, tools and information items, CXI combines them into three areas. These three complexity areas (Station design, Work variance and Disturbance handling) help to create an understanding of the complex system by visualising how they contribute to complexity, and show the need to support the operators’ ability to handle the varying work. 相似文献

Questions such as 'How small is small?' and 'How low is low enough?' have long plagued radiation dosimetrists and risk management personnel. Unfortunately, our knowledge about the biological effects of low levels of ionising radiation is scarce and uncertain. If we look to the results of epidemiological studies, we find that it is not easy to arrive at firm conclusions. However, some current radiobiological experiments using microbeams of various radiations, along with improved theoretical models of radiation action, may shed new light on the effects of low levels of ionising radiation. What shall we do in the meantime? Both of our debaters agree that monitoring of radiation workers is necessary, yet careful consideration must be given to the rationale for providing personal monitoring. There is no question that we have done a good job of protecting radiation workers for many years, but we also must be aware of the many implications of our efforts. 相似文献

Research indicates that using a cell phone to talk or text while maneuvering a vehicle impairs driving performance. However, few published studies directly compare the distracting effects of texting using a hands-free (i.e., speech-based interface) versus handheld cell phone, which is an important issue for legislation, automotive interface design and driving safety training. This study compared the effect of speech-based versus handheld text entries on simulated driving performance by asking participants to perform a car following task while controlling the duration of a secondary text-entry task. Results showed that both speech-based and handheld text entries impaired driving performance relative to the drive-only condition by causing more variation in speed and lane position. Handheld text entry also increased the brake response time and increased variation in headway distance. Text entry using a speech-based cell phone was less detrimental to driving performance than handheld text entry. Nevertheless, the speech-based text entry task still significantly impaired driving compared to the drive-only condition. These results suggest that speech-based text entry disrupts driving, but reduces the level of performance interference compared to text entry with a handheld device. In addition, the difference in the distraction effect caused by speech-based and handheld text entry is not simply due to the difference in task duration. 相似文献

Depletion of oil reserves and the associated effects on climate change have prompted a re-examination of the use of plant biomass as a sustainable source of organic carbon for the large-scale production of chemicals and materials. While initial emphasis has been placed on biofuel production from edible plant sugars, the drive to reduce the competition between crop usage for food and non-food applications has prompted massive research efforts to access the less digestible saccharides in cell walls (lignocellulosics). This in turn has prompted an examination of the use of other plant-derived metabolites for the production of chemicals spanning the high-value speciality sectors through to platform intermediates required for bulk production. The associated science of biorefining, whereby all plant biomass can be used efficiently to derive such chemicals, is now rapidly developing around the world. However, it is clear that the heterogeneity and distribution of organic carbon between valuable products and waste streams are suboptimal. As an alternative, we now propose the use of synthetic biology approaches to 're-construct' plant feedstocks for optimal processing of biomass for non-food applications. Promising themes identified include re-engineering polysaccharides, deriving artificial organelles, and the reprogramming of plant signalling and secondary metabolism. 相似文献
