Thermal expansion and linear-dimension hysteresis for polycrystalline silicon carbide

Length measurements have been made on polycrystalline silicon carbide on cooling from 290 to 23 K, and the linear-expansion coefficient has been determined. The lack of reproducibility in the length after cooling has been examined. The irreproducibility after the first cooling is 10^–5, but after four cycles of cooling at low rates, the linear dimensions stabilize. The “Paket” device for contactless linear-dimension monitoring

The device employs a projection method and is built on a modular principle. It contains a light source, positioning device, Élektronika- 60M microcomputer, and units for optical data transformation, data exchange, power supply, control, specimen drive, sorter, and monitor. Accuracy of centering during measurement by roundness gauges

The effect of centering accuracy on the error for measurement of roundness deviation is considered. A method is proposed for processing the results of measurements based on harmonic analysis, compensating for a given error.
