One of the main disadvantages of solar air collectors in practical applications is their relatively low efficiency. In this experimental investigation, the shape and arrangement of absorber surfaces of the collectors were reorganised to provide better heat transfer surfaces suitable for the passive heat transfer augmentation techniques. The performance of such solar air collectors with staggered absorber sheets and attached fins on absorber surface were tested. The exergy relations are delivered for different solar air collectors. It is seen that the largest irreversibility is occurring at the conventional solar collector in which collector efficiency is smallest.  相似文献

A mathematical model for computing the thermal performance of a single pass flat-plate solar air collector is presented. Air channels were formed by providing metal slats running along the circulated air passage linking the absorber plate by the bottom one in an endeavor to enhance the thermal efficiency of the solar air collector. A mathematical model, therefore, is developed by which the influence of the addition of the metal slats on the efficiency of the solar collector is studied. A computer code that employs an iterative solution procedure is constructed to solve for the governing energy equations to estimate the mean temperatures of the collector. The effect of volume airflow rate, collector length, and spacing between the absorber and bottom plates on the thermal performance of the present solar air heater was investigated. Furthermore, a numerical comparison of the present design with the most common type of solar air heaters is conducted. The results of the comparison have indicated that better thermal performance was obtained by the modified system.  相似文献

A mathematical model and solution procedure for predicting the thermal performance of single-pass solar air collectors is presented. By omitting or providing a top glass cover over a plane absorber plate, or by providing a bottom plate under the absorber plate and circulating air over one or both of the air channels so formed, four common types of flat-plate solar air collector designs were considered. The surface temperatures of the walls surrounding the air streams were assumed uniform whereas the air temperatures were assumed to vary linearly along the collector. In the mathematical model, the solar collector was assumed sufficiently short for which the assumptions were valid. By considering a steady state heat transfer using the thermal network analysis procedure, a set of simultaneous equations for the mean temperature of the walls and the air streams were obtained. Instead of solving the simultaneous equations for mean temperatures explicitly, a matrix inversion method was employed using a standard sub-routine programme. Because heat transfer coefficients were temperature dependent, a set of mean temperatures was approximated which allowed the heat transfer coefficients to be evaluated as a first guess. An iterative process was then created that enabled the mean temperatures for the collector to be calculated. The newly-calculated mean temperatures were then compared with the initially-guessed temperatures. The iterative procedure was repeated until consecutive mean temperature values differed by less than 0.01°C. After this, another section of collector with a length equal to the previous one was added to the end of the first collector. The temperature conditions at the inlet of the second section were assumed equal to the outlet temperature conditions of the previous section. The iterative procedure to determine the mean temperatures was repeated for the next section. Additional sections were added until the required overall length of collector was considered. By this procedure, predictions of mean wall and air streams temperatures for a collector of any length could be obtained. Although only four, common single-pass types of flat-plate solar collectors are considered here, the solution procedure could be extended to encompass most other collector designs.  相似文献

The design, construction and test results of non-evacuated stationary CPC solar collectors with flat absorbers are presented and discussed. The proposed collector design is based on a truncated asymmetric CPC reflector, consisting of a parabolic and a circular part. A flat bifacial absorber is installed at the upper part of the collector, parallel to the glazing to form a thermal trap space between the reverse absorber surface and the circular part of the mirror. Two prototypes based on the same collector geometry were constructed and tested. The first model consists of one mirror–absorber unit and the second of three smaller units integrated in one collector device. The truncated CPC mirror and the installation of the absorber parallel to the glazing keep the optical efficiency at a satisfactory level. The reduction of radiative thermal losses by using selective absorbers and the suppression of convection thermal losses from the reverse absorber surface to the collector cover result to a significant decrease of the total collector thermal losses. The experimental results showed that the proposed CPC collector could achieve a maximum efficiency of 0.71 and a stagnation temperature of about 180°C, with the multiunit collector device being more efficient and practical.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to provide a remedy for the low thermo-physical properties of air which is used as different absorber surface of air heater. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the absorber surface of the collector whose shape and arrangement were made up to provide better heat transfer surfaces. In the study an experimental performance and exergy analysis of five types of air heating solar collectors: corrugated trapeze, reverse corrugated, reverse trapeze, and a base flat-plate collector are presented. The results of the experiments were evaluated at the same time of the days with the same radiation. The efficiencies were determined for the collectors and comparisons were made among them. The present data showed that heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop increase with shape of absorbers surface.  相似文献

In the current study, an experimental analysis of exergy performance for different absorber plates is done. Three types of absorber plates are supplied with different fin arrangements with a variable air mass flow rate. The exergy analysis to evaluate the exergy performance of the solar air heaters uses experimental data for conventional and finned solar air collectors with different arrangements of fins. The main aim of the current study is to compare the exergy performance of the conventional solar air collector with those equipped with fins. The introducing of the fins in different arrangements enhances the absorber surface area, which leads to increased heat transfer. Also, fins induce air turbulence in the flow field, which improves the exergy performance of solar air collector. It is found that the exergy reduces and exergy efficiency enhances with increasing the airflow rate. The traditional flat absorber plate has undesirable exergy loss and exergy efficiency for all ranges of airflow rates. Thus, the flat plate collector presents the most substantial irreversibility, for which the exergy efficiency is the least. However, the results show that the exergy efficiency of inclined staggered turbulators is higher than that of in‐line and staggered turbulators. The optimal value of exergy efficiency is recorded at nearly 77% for the solar air collectors equipped with inclined staggered turbulators compared with other types of configurations.  相似文献

A mathematical model that allows the determination of the thermal performances of the single-pass solar air collector with offset rectangular plate fin absorber plate is developed. The model can predict the temperature profile of all the components of the collector and of the air stream in the channel duct. Into the latter are introduced the offset rectangular plate fins, which increase the thermal heat transfer between the absorber plate and the fluid. The offset rectangular plate fins, mounted in a staggered pattern, are oriented parallel to the fluid flow and are soldered to the underside of the absorber plate. They are characterized by high heat transfer area per unit volume and generate the low pressure losses. The experimental results of the air stream temperature will be compared with the results obtained by the theoretical model suggested.  相似文献

The thermal heat performance of a solar air collector depends strongly on the thermal heat loss and the efficiency factor. In order to increase these performances, it is necessary to use a solar air collector which is well insulated and where the fluid flow is fully developed turbulent flow. It needs a high heat transfer between the absorber plate and the fluid to decrease the absorber‐plate temperature and hence the heat loss by radiation from the absorber to the ambient. This increases the efficiency factor. In the present paper, the heat loss and efficiency factor are treated for solar air collectors with selective and nonselective absorber plate. It is shown that the selectivity of the absorber plate cannot play an important role in a well‐insulated solar collector with a fanned system which permits a fully developed turbulent flow and, in consequence, high heat transfer. The use of PV/T in combination with concentrating reflectors has a potential to significantly increase power production from a given solar cell area. A prototype double-pass photovoltaic-thermal solar air collector with CPC and fins has been designed and fabricated and its performance over a range of operating conditions was studied. The absorber of the hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector under investigation consists of an array of solar cells for generating electricity, compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) to increase the radiation intensity falling on the solar cells and fins attached to the back side of the absorber plate to improve heat transfer to the flowing air. Energy balance equations have been developed for the various nodes of the system. Both thermal and electrical performance of the collector are presented and discussed.  相似文献

High efficiency solar air heater   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This article presents an analysis for a novel type of solar air heater. The main idea is to minimize heat losses from the front cover of the collector and to maximize heat extraction from the absorber. This can be done by forcing air to flow over the front glass cover (preheat the air) before passing through the absorber. Hence, this design needs an extra cover to form a counter-flow heat exchanger. Porous media forms an extensive area for heat transfer, where the volumetric heat transfer coefficient is very high. Hence, using a porous absorber will enhance heat transfer from the absorber to the airstream. In the design of this type of collector, which combines double air passage and porous media, care should be taken to minimize pressure drop. However, the thermal efficiency of this type of collector is significantly higher than the thermal efficiency of conventional air heaters. The thermal efficiency of the suggested collector exceeds 75% under normal operating conditions. The pressure drop is not so significant if high porous medium is used and careful design of U-return section is considered.  相似文献

Solar air heaters can be used for many applications at low and moderate temperatures. There are different factors affecting the solar air heater efficiency, e.g. collector length, collector depth, type of absorber plate, glass cover plate, wind speed, etc. The absorber shape factor is the most important parameter in the design for any type of solar air heater. Increasing the absorber shape area will increase the heat transfer to the flowing air, but on the other hand, will increase the pressure drop in the collector, this increases the required power consumption to pump the air flow crossing the collector. It was most important to find the optimizing angle of the triangular collector. The effect of the change of the absorber shape factor on the collector performance was studied. A theoretical model was constructed for the two types of collectors, taking into account the new parameter, called the absorber shape factor. The results can be used for all types of solar air heaters by changing the value of the absorber shape factor. The optimum angle of the triangular collector was deduced.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental analysis of a single pass solar air collector with, and without using baffle fin. The heat transfer coefficient between the absorber plate and air can be considerably increased by using artificial roughness on the bottom plate and under the absorber plate of a solar air heater duct. An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect of roughness and operating parameters on heat transfer. The investigation has covered the range of Reynolds number Re from 1259 to 2517 depending on types of the configuration of the solar collectors. Based on the experimental data, values of Nusselt number Nu have been determined for different values of configurations and operating parameters. To determine the enhancement in heat transfer and increment in thermal efficiency, the values of Nusselt have been compared with those of smooth duct under similar flow conditions.  相似文献

A comprehensive numerical study was carried out to study the thermal performances of a solar collector equipped with partitions attached to its glass cover. This technique is used to favorise and increase the heat transfer coefficient between the working fluid, (air) and the absorber in the solar collector. A specifically developed numerical model based on the finite-volume method and the SIMPLER algorithm is used for the solution of the mass, momentum and energy transfer governing equations. The discretized equations are solved iteratively by an algorithm based on a preconditioned conjugate gradient method. Concerning the radiation exchange, we consider that the working fluid is transparent, so only the solid surfaces contribute to the radiation exchange and assumed to be diffuse-gray. A complete parametric study is made for various partitions length Lp, aspect ratio A and Rayleigh numbers Ra for Prandtl number Pr = 0.71. Results are reported in terms of isotherms, streamlines and average Nusselt-numbers along the absorber plate.  相似文献

The low thermophysical characteristics of air used as a heat transfer fluid in the solar collectors with thermal conversion require a fully developed turbulent flow. This increases the thermal heat transfer between the absorber plate and the fluid, which clearly improves the thermal performances of the solar collector with obstacles arranged into the air channel duct. In the present work, we introduce, in solar collector, the offset rectangular plate fins, which are used in heat exchangers. An experimental investigation carried out showed the generated enhancement of thermal performance. The offset rectangular plate fins, mounted in staggered pattern, are oriented parallel to the fluid flow and are soldered to the underside of absorber plate. They are characterized by high heat transfer area per unit volume. High thermal performances are obtained with low pressure losses and in consequence a low electrical power consumption by the fan in comparison to the flat plate collector. The experimental results are all so compared by using two types of transparent cover; double and triple.  相似文献

The objective of this work is to theoretically and experimentally investigate the flow and temperature distribution in a solar collector panel with an absorber consisting of horizontally inclined strips. Fluid flow and heat transfer in the collector panel are studied by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations. Further, experimental investigations of a 12.5 m2 solar collector panel with 16 parallel connected horizontal fins are carried out. The flow distribution through the absorber is evaluated by means of temperature measurements on the backside of the absorber tubes. The measured temperatures are compared to the temperatures determined by the CFD model and there is a good similarity between the measured and calculated results.

Calculations with the CFD model elucidate the flow and temperature distribution in the collector. The influences of different operating conditions such as flow rate, properties of solar collector fluid, solar collector fluid inlet temperature and collector tilt angle are shown. The flow distribution through the absorber fins is uniform if high flow rates are used. By decreased flow rate and decreased content of glycol in the glycol/water mixture used as solar collector fluid, and by increased collector tilt and inlet temperature, the flow distribution gets worse resulting in an increased risk of boiling in the upper part of the collector panel.  相似文献

In this article, concepts of solar irradiance ratio and absorbed energy factor on the surface of the evacuated collector tube absorbers were presented respectively. For evacuated collector tubes with flat and semicylindric absorbers, we used a solar simulator as a light source, measured separately distribution of the solar irradiance ratio that varies with incident angles on various points on the absorber surface in a glass-covered tube, and gave their three-dimensional regressive equations correspondingly. Experimental measurement of solar irradiance ratio and solar absorptance of coatings on absorber surfaces was carried out. On this basis, rules of absorbed energy factors on absorbers in two shapes that vary with incident angles were analyzed and studied. According to clear-day model, the daily absorbed energy and its annual changes of single evacuated collector tubes with absorbers in two shapes placed under 40° northern latitude, 40° inclined angle and south orientation were calculated and compared. The results show that the annual absorbed energy of evacuated collector tube with a semicylindric absorber is 15.9% higher than that with a flat absorber. In addition, optimized incident angles for the absorber in two shapes of evacuated collector tubes operated in a whole year were tentatively investigated.  相似文献

A sealed space between absorber and cover glass in a flat plate solar collector makes it possible to reduce the influence of humidity condensate and dust at the same time as the enclosed space can be filled with a suitable gas for lowering the heat losses. This article describes the influence of different gases on the heat losses in a typical flat plate solar collector. A model of a gas-filled flat plate solar collector was built in Matlab with standard heat transfer formulas. The results show that the overall heat loss can be reduced by up to 20% when changing from air to an inert gas. It is further possible to reduce the distance between absorber and cover in order to reduce the mechanical stresses in the material with similar heat losses.  相似文献

A mathematical model of a solar chimney   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
K. S. Ong   《Renewable Energy》2003,28(7):1047-1060
A simple mathematical model of a solar chimney is proposed. The physical model is similar to the Trombe wall. One side of the chimney is provided with a glass cover which with the other three solid walls of the chimney form a channel through which the heated air could rise and flow by natural convection. Openings provided at the bottom and top of the chimney allow room air to enter and leave the channel. Steady state heat transfer equations were set up to determine the boundary temperatures at the surface of the glass cover, the rear solar heat absorbing wall and the air flow in the channel using a thermal resistance network. The equations were solved using a matrix-inversion solution procedure. The thermal performance of the solar chimney as determined from the glass, wall and air temperatures, air mass flow rate and instantaneous heat collection efficiency of the chimney are presented. Satisfactory correlation was obtained with experimental data from other investigators. Further experimental investigation is currently under way.  相似文献

In this communication, a heat transfer model to predict the transient behaviour of a suspended flat plate solar collector with constant flow of fluid (air) above the absorber has been presented. A reflecting sheet with an air gap between the absorber plate and bottom insulation to reduce heat loss has been used. The effect, on performance of the air heater, of the parameters viz, spacing between cover and plate, heat capacity of air and absorber plate, flow rate of fluid and collector length have been studied. The effect of changing the averaging inlet temperature with varying collector length has also been studied.  相似文献
