Grafting of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(lactide) (PLA) chains on poly(vinyl alcohol) backbone (PVA degree of hydrolysis 99%) was investigated using MgH2 environmental catalyst and melt‐grown ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) and L ‐lactide (LA), that avoiding undesirable toxic catalyst and solvent. The ability of MgH2 as catalyst as well as yield of reaction were discussed according to various PVA/CL/MgH2 and PVA/LA/MgH2 ratio. PVA‐g‐PCL and PVA‐g‐PLA were characterized by 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR, DSC, SEC, IR. For graft copolymers easily soluble in tetrahydrofuran (THF) or chloroform, wettability and surface energy of cast film varied in relation with the length and number of hydrophobic chains. Aqueous solution of micelle‐like particles was realized by dissolution in THF then addition of water. Critical micelle concentration (CMC) decreased with hydrophobic chains. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

2,5‐Dibromo‐1,4‐(dihydroxymethyl)benzene was used as initiator in ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2) catalyst. The resulting poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) macromonomer, with a central 2,5‐dibromo‐1,4‐diphenylene group, was used in combination with 1,4‐dibromo‐2,5‐dimethylbenzene for a Suzuki coupling in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4 as catalyst or using the system NiCl2/bpy/PPh3/Zn for a Yamamoto‐type polymerization. The poly(p‐phenylenes) (PPP) obtained, with PCL side chains, have solubility properties similar to those of the starting macromonomer, ie soluble in common organic solvents at room temperature. The new polymers were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR and UV spectroscopy and also by GPC measurements. The thermal behaviour of the precursor PCL macromonomer and the final poly(p‐phenylene)‐graft‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) copolymers were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry analyses and compared. In this study, biodegradable blends of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) were prepared by a new strategy in the following steps: (1) free radical polymerization of N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NVP) in ε‐caprolactone (CL); (2) ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of PVP to obtain the target blends. The structure of the blends was confirmed by FTIR and 1H NMR, and the molecular weight of PCL and PVP were determined by GPC. SEM study revealed that this polymerization method could decrease the disperse phase size and improve the interphase when compared with solution‐blending method. The phase inversion occurred when PVP content was 15–20 wt %. Subsequently, the PCL sphere dispersed in PVP matrix and its size decreased with the increase of PVP content. The contact angle results showed that PVP has a profound effect on hydrophilic properties of PCL/PVP blends. PCL/PVP blends are believed to be promising for drug delivery, cell therapy, and other biomedical applications. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Lanthanide metal (II) 2,6‐di‐tert‐butylphenoxide complexes (ArO)2Ln(THF)3 (Ln = Sm 1 , Yb 2 ) alone have been developed to catalyze the ring‐opening polymerization of trimethylenecarbonate (TMC) and random copolymerization of TMC and ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) for the first time. The influence of reaction conditions, such as initiator, initiator concentration, polymerization temperature, and polymerization time, on monomer conversion, molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution of the resulting PTMC was investigated. It was found that the divalent complex 1 showed higher activity for the polymerization of TMC than complex 2 . The random structure and thermal behavior of the copolymers P(TMC‐co‐CL) have been characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, GPC, and DSC analysis. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The main aims of the work reported here were to synthesize and characterize a new 2,2′‐ethylidene‐bis(4,6‐di‐tert‐butylphenol) (EDBPH2)‐based bimetal yttrium complex, Y(EDBP)2(DME)Na(DME)3 (1c; where DME is ethylene glycol dimethyl ether), which was employed as an efficient initiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL). From single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, the solid structure of this new bimetal initiator was well established. Experimental results show that 1c initiates the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐CL to afford poly(ε‐CL) with a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.09–1.36, 65 °C). Based on an in situ NMR study, a plausible coordination–insertion mechanism is then proposed. The bimetal complex 1c can be used as an initiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐CL with some living characteristics. A study of the mechanism reveals that DME displacement in 1c by ε‐CL is involved in the initiation process and the propagation may proceed through three pathways by Na? O insertion or Y? O insertion. Two series of poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) triblock copolymers were prepared by the ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) and dibutylmagnesium in 1,4‐dioxane solution at 70°C. The triblock structure and molecular weight of the copolymers were analyzed and confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography. The crystallization and thermal properties of the copolymers were investigated by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results illustrated that the crystallization and melting behaviors of the copolymers were depended on the copolymer composition and the relative length of each block in copolymers. Crystallization exothermal peaks (Tc) and melting endothermic peaks (Tm) of PEG block were significantly influenced by the relative length of PCL blocks, due to the hindrance of the lateral PCL blocks. With increasing of the length of PCL blocks, the diffraction and the melting peak of PEG block disappeared gradually in the WAXD patterns and DSC curves, respectively. In contrast, the crystallization of PCL blocks was not suppressed by the middle PEG block. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Poly(vinyl alcohol)‐initiated microwave‐assisted ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in bulk was investigated, and a series of poly(vinyl alcohol)‐graft‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PVA‐g‐PCL) copolymers were prepared, with the degree of polymerization (DP) of PCL side chains and the degree of substitution (DS) of PVA by PCL being in the range of 3–24 and 0.35–0.89, respectively. The resultant comb‐like PVA‐g‐PCL copolymers were confirmed by means of FTIR, 1H NMR, and viscometry measurement. The introduction of hydrophilic backbone resulted in the decrease in both melting point and crystallization property of the PVA‐g‐PCL copolymers comparing with linear PCL. With higher microwave power, the DP of PCL side chains and DS of PVA backbone were higher, and the polymerization reaction proceeded more rapidly. Both the DP and monomer conversion increased with irradiation time, while the DS increased first and then remained constant. With initiator in low concentration, the DP and DS were higher, while the monomer was converted more slowly. Microwaves dramatically improved the polymerization reaction in comparison of conventional heating method. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 104, 3973–3979, 2007  相似文献

Well‐defined graft copolymers based on poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) via poly(linoleic acid) (PLina), are derived from soybean oil. Poly(linoleic acid)‐g‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PLina‐g‐PCL) and poly(linoleic acid)‐g‐poly(styrene)‐g‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PLina‐g‐PSt‐g‐PCL) were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone initiated by PLina and one‐pot synthesis of graft copolymers, and by ring‐opening polymerization and free radical polymerization by using PLina, respectively. PLina‐g‐PCL, PLina‐g‐PSt‐g‐PCL3, and PLina‐g‐PSt‐g‐PCL4 copolymers containing 96.97, 75.04 and 80.34 mol% CL, respectively, have been investigated regarding their enzymatic degradation properties in the presence of Pseudomonas lipase. In terms of weight loss, after 1 month, 51.5 % of PLina‐g‐PCL, 18.8 % of PLina‐g‐PSt‐g‐PCL3, and 38.4 % of PLina‐g‐PSt‐g‐PCL4 were degraded, leaving remaining copolymers with molecular weights of 16,140, 83,220 and 70,600 Da, respectively. Introducing the PLina unit into the copolymers greatly decreased the degradation rate. The molar ratio of [CL]/[Lina] dramatically decreased, from 21.3 to 8.4, after 30 days of incubation. Moreover, reduced PCL content in PLina‐g‐PSt‐g‐PCL copolymers decreased the degradation rate, probably due to the PSt enrichment within the structure, which blocks lipase contact with PCL units. Thus, copolymerization of PCL with PLina and PSt units leads to a controllable degradation profile, which encourages the use of these polymers as promising biomaterials for tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

Multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were covalently functionalized with poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) using click chemistry. First, chlorine moiety‐containing PCL was synthesized by the copolymerization of α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone with ε‐caprolactone monomer using ring opening polymerization, and further converted to azide moiety‐containing PCL. The alkyne‐functionalized MWNTs were prepared with the treatment of p‐amino propargyl ether using a solvent free diazotization procedure. The covalent functionalization of alkyne‐derived MWNTs with azide moiety‐containing PCL was accomplished using Cu(I)‐catalyzed [3+2] Huisgen dipolar cycloaddition click chemistry. The PCL‐functionalization of MWNTs was confirmed by the measurements of Fourier transform infra‐red, NMR, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a new kind of biodegradable poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐based polyurethane (PCEC‐U) copolymers were successfully synthesized by melt‐polycondensation method from ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), 1,4‐butanediol (BD), and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI). The obtained copolymers were characterized by 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR), FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Thermal properties of PCEC‐U copolymers were studied by DSC and TGA/DTG under nitrogen atmosphere. Water absorption and hydrolytic degradation behavior of these copolymers were also investigated. Hydrolytic degradation behavior was studied by weight loss method. 1H‐NMR and GPC were also used to characterize the hydrolytic degradation behavior of PCEC‐U copolymers. The molecular weight of PCL block and PEG block in soft segment and the content of hard segment strongly affected the water absorption and hydrolytic degradation behavior of PCEC‐U copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triphenylamine‐based oligomers and polymers with linear, hyperbranched, star‐shaped or dendrimer architectures have been synthesized and studied due to their interesting electro‐optical properties. In many cases insoluble materials are obtained. In this study, we report the synthesis of grafted polytriphenylamine by chemical and electrochemical polymerization of triphenylamine‐end‐functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone). Functionalized ε‐caprolactone oligomers were obtained by ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone initiated by 4‐hydroxymethyltriphenylamine/stannous octanoate (tin 2‐ethylhexanoate). The ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone using 4‐hydroxymethyltriphenylamine/stannous octanoate as initiating system provided ε‐caprolactone oligomers, with well‐defined molecular weights, containing a triphenylamine terminal group. Chemical and electrochemical coupling oxidation of the triphenylamine ends allowed the formulation of polyarylamines with ε‐caprolactone oligomers as grafts. Graft copolymers with an aryleneamine backbone and short poly(ε‐caprolactone) grafts were obtained by (electro)chemical oxidation of oligomers containing triphenylamine terminal groups. A series of yttrium trisalicylaldimine complexes formed in situ by the reaction of trialkyl complex [Y(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2] (THF is tetrahydrofuran) with three equivalent salicylaldimines were used as initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone. Electronic and steric effects of the salicylaldimine ligand played important roles on the catalytic properties of the yttrium complexes. The yttrium trisalicylaldimine complex Y( L7 )3 ( L7 = (S)‐2,4‐di‐tert‐butyl‐6‐[(1‐phenylethylimino)methyl]phenol) most effectively initiated controlled ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone to prepare poly(ε‐caprolactone)s with high molecular weights and moderate molecular weight distributions. Obtained by density functional theory calculations, the optimized geometries of the four different active centers with four salicylaldimine ligands explained the experimental results. Highly random copolymers of 2,2‐dimethyltrimethylene carbonate (DTC) and ε‐caprolactone (CL) were synthesized by single component rare‐earth tris(4‐tert‐butylphenolate)s [Ln(OTBP)3] for the first time. The influences of reaction conditions on the copolymerization initiated by La(OTBP)3 have been examined in detail. The monomer reactivity ratios of DTC and CL determined by the Fineman–Ross method are 4.0 for rDTC and 0.27 for rCL. The microstructure of the copolymer was determined by the analyses of the diads DTC–DTC, DTC–CL, CL–DTC and CL–CL of the 1H NMR spectra. The high degree of randomness of the chain structure was further confirmed by the 13C NMR spectra and differential scanning calorimetry. The thermal properties of the copolymers as a function of composition are reported. The mechanism investigated by 1H NMR data indicates that the rare‐earth tris(4‐tert‐butylphenolate)s initiate the ring‐opening copolymerization of DTC and CL with acyl‐oxygen bond cleavages of the monomers. Biodegradable polyrotaxane‐based triblock copolymers were synthesized via the bulk atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of n‐butyl methacrylate (BMA) initiated with polypseudo‐rotaxanes (PPRs) built from a distal 2‐bromoisobutyryl end‐capped poly(ε‐caprolactone) (Br‐PCL‐Br) with α‐cyclodextrins (α‐CDs) in the presence of Cu(I)Br/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine at 45 ºC. The structure was characterized in detail by means of 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, DSC and TGA. When the feed molar ratio of BMA to Br‐PCL‐Br was changed from 128 to 300, the degree of polymerization of PBMA blocks attached to two ends of the PPRs was in the range 382 ? 803. Although about a tenth of the added α‐CDs were still threaded onto the PCL chain after the ATRP process, the movable α‐CDs made a marked contribution to the mechanical strength enhancement, blood anticoagulation activity and protein adsorption repellency of the resulting copolymers. Meanwhile, they could also protect the copolymers from the attack of H2O and Lipase AK Amano molecules, exhibiting a lower mass loss as evidenced in hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation experiments. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

This article describes the compatibility of two semicrystalline polymers, poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(l‐lactic acid) (PLLA). The compatibility of the PCL/PLLA blends was enhanced by the compatibilizing effect of the poly(l,l‐lactide‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) [P(lLA‐co‐εCL)]. A discussion details the effect of the concentration of the compatibilizing agent, the copolymer of l,l‐lactide and ε‐caprolactone of a 50/50 mol ratio [P(lLA‐co‐εCL)], on the compatibility and the crystallization behavior of the blends of PCL and PLLA. It was found that the addition of P(lLA‐co‐εCL) could suppress the crystallization of PLLA at its Tc and induced the concurrent crystallization of PLLA and PCL. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this study, a novel well‐defined epoxy mid‐chain functional macromonomer of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) has been synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and epoxidation on workup with 3‐chloroperoxybenzoic acid. The ROP of ε‐CL monomer in bulk at 110°C, by means of a dihydroxy functional initiator namely, 3‐cyclohexene‐1,1‐dimethanol in conjunction with stannous‐2‐ethylhexanoate, (Sn(Oct)2), yielded a well‐defined PCL with a cyclohexene mid‐chain group. The epoxidation of the cyclohexene (CH) mid‐chain group of PCL was performed using 3‐chloroperoxybenzoic acid. GPC, IR, and 1H‐NMR analyses revealed that a low‐polydispersity macromonomer of PCL with the desired cyclohexene oxide (CHO) functionality at the mid‐chain was obtained. The photoinduced cationic polymerizations of this macromonomer yielded comb‐shaped and graft copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

The synthesis of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL)‐grafted granular starch was carried out either in bulk (without solvent) or in toluene suspension by a two‐step procedure. First step relied upon the activation of the hydroxyl groups available at the starch surface by alkylaluminum derivatives like AlEt3 and removal of non‐surface‐grafted organo‐aluminum active species. The latter species were made free in solution by reaction with the remaining water molecules still contaminating the polymerization medium despite intensive drying of the starch granules. In the second step, ε‐caprolactone was polymerized via a coordination‐insertion ring‐opening polymerization as initiated by the surface‐grafted aluminum alkoxide species. The present contribution aims at investigating various parameters such as nature of the alkyl aluminum activator and monomer (δ‐valerolactone was studied as well), temperature, concentration, and addition of a solvent (polymerization in toluene suspension), reaction time, and also the experimental procedure used to recover the polyester chains and measure the grafting efficiency. It turns out that, under the studied conditions, dialkylaluminum alkoxides surface‐grafted onto the starch granules were more likely generated and promote a fast polymerization reaction with the formation of grafted PCL chains with a molecular weight that can be as high as 225 000 (Mn value) for polymerization carried out in toluene suspension. Poly(ε‐caprolactone)/poly(ε‐caprolactone‐co‐lactide) (PCL/PLCL) blend filaments with various ratios of PCL and PLCL were prepared by melt spinning. The effect of PLCL content on the physical properties of the blended filament was investigated. The melt spinning of the blend was carried out and the as spun filament was subsequently subjected to drawing and heat setting process. The addition of PLCL caused significant changes in the mechanical properties of the filaments. Crystallinity of blend decreased with the addition of PLCL as observed by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the fracture surface becomes rougher at higher PLCL content. It may be proposed that PCL and PLCL show limited interaction within the blend matrix. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Novel polyesters, poly[(ε‐caprolactone)‐co‐(N‐trityl‐L ‐serine‐β‐lactone)]s, were prepared by copolymerizing ε‐caprolactone (CL) with N‐trityl‐L ‐serine‐β‐lactone (TSL) using ZnEt2 as the catalyst. The number‐average molecular weights were determined which ranged from 2.7 × 104 to 4.9 × 104 Da with dispersity values ranging from 1.6 to 1.8. The structures of the copolymers were investigated by means of 1H NMR, 13C NMR and infrared spectroscopies, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The results indicated that CL and TSL monomer units were randomly distributed within the copolymer backbone structures and the ratios of TSL to CL in the copolymers were close to those in the feeds. After removal of the trityl group under mild condition, a new polyester with side amino groups provided by serine units was obtained. L929 cell culturing test indicated good biocompatibility of the polyester with or without protective groups. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) characterization of the statistical copolymers of this study showed that the poly(ε‐caprolactone‐co‐L‐lactide)s, with ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) molar contents ranging from 70 to 94% and ε‐CL average sequence length (lCL) between 2.20–9.52, and the poly(ε‐caprolactone‐co‐δ‐valerolactone)s, with 60 to 85% of ε‐CL and lCL between 2.65–6.08, present semi‐alternating (R→2) and random (R~1) distribution of sequences, respectively. These syntheses were carried out with the aim of reducing the crystallinity of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), needed to provide mechanical strength to the material but also responsible for its slow degradation rate. However, this was not achieved in the case of the ε‐caprolactone‐co‐δ‐valerolactone (ε‐CL‐co‐δ‐VAL). Non‐isothermal cooling treatments at different rates and isothermal crystallizations (at 5, 10, 21 and 37°C) were conducted by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and demonstrated that ε‐CL copolymers containing δ‐valerolactone (δ‐VAL) exhibited a larger crystallization capability than those of L‐lactide (L‐LA) and also arranged into crystalline structures over shorter times. The crystallization enthalpies of the ε‐CL‐co‐δ‐VAL copolymers during the cooling treatments and their heat of fusion (ΔHm) at the different isothermal temperatures were very large (i.e. ΔHc > 53 Jg?1) and in some cases, unrelated to the copolymer composition. In some compositions, such as the 60 : 40, Wide Angle X‐ray Scattering (WAXS) proved that that these two lactones undergo isomorphism and co‐crystallize in a single cell. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
