The effects of gum tragacanth obtained from two species of Astragalus Gossypinus (GT-G) and A. Parrowianus (GT-P) at two levels of 10% and 30% combined with cellulose nanofibers (CNF; 5%) on the physico-mechanical and structural properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanocomposite film were investigated in this study. The water solubility and water vapor permeability of the films decreased with increasing the content of both gums, especially in the film containing 30% GT-P. The highest values of the tensile strength (39.3 MPa) and elongation at break (445%) belonged to the treatment containing 10% GT-P (90/10P/0). The FTIR and DSC analyses confirmed good interactions between GT and PVA in the 90/10P/0 treatment. SEM images indicated the dense structure of this film as the optimum treatment. Although the presence of CNF in the films containing GT-G improved some properties, especially the Young modulus, it impaired all the functional properties of nanocomposite GT-P film.  相似文献

This work has demonstrated that the novel chitosan derivative, synthesized by phase transition and grafting diethylenetriamine, has a great potential for the adsorption of acid dyes from aqueous solutions. Four acid dyes with different molecular sizes and structures were used to investigate the adsorption performance of diethylenetriamine‐modified chitosan beads (CTSN‐beads). Results indicated that the adsorption of dyes on CTSN‐beads was largely dependent on the pH value and controlled by the electrostatic attraction. In addition, the adsorption rate (AO10 > AO7 > AR18 > AG25) and adsorption capacities (AO7 > AR18 > AO10 > AG25) were directly related to the molecular size of the dye and the amount of the sulfonate groups on the dye molecules. The equilibrium and kinetic data fitted well with the Langmuir–Freundlich and pseudo‐second‐order model. Furthermore, thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption processes occurred spontaneously and higher temperature made the adsorption easier. The reuse tests indicated that the CTSN‐beads can be recovered for multiple uses. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 130: 4090–4098, 2013  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a biodegradable aliphatic polymer obtained from renewable sources; its main application is in the packaging sector. Electronic components require the use of antistatic packaging that prevents damage and electric shock. As PLA has no conductive characteristics, it requires the addition of allotropic carbon forms such as conductive carbon black to make the polymer less resistive as the dissipative material and making it suitable for the manufacture of antistatic packaging. In this study, PLA was melt blended with 5, 10, and 15 wt % of carbon black. The composites were prepared using a high-speed mixer. Samples were characterized by Izod impact resistance tests, scanning electron microscopy, thermal properties, electrical characterization, and biodegradation tests in garden soil. The addition of carbon black in the PLA matrix increases the temperature of degradation and decreases the crystallinity degree and the impact resistance of the composites. However, carbon black is a great option to increase the electrical conductivity of PLA. The addition of carbon black in PLA makes the composite less resistive and suitable for use as antistatic packaging for the transportation and storage of electronic components. Furthermore, this composite does not cause damage to the environment as the carbon black does not interfere in the degradation mechanism of PLA. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. A novel strategy to engineer biodegradable halochromic film based on poly (lactic acid) (PLA) for pH sensorial substances was presented. The effect of polyethylene glycol (PEG) compositions and dye amount on the efficiency of halochromic pH film was observed. The interactions between PLA, PEG, and dye was evidence by Fourier transform infrared. UV–VIS results indicated the sensitivity of the halochromic film through color changes. Mechanical performance was investigated by tensile testing to assess the potential of the halochromic film. It was found that the halochromic pH film has a clear color response from yellow to purple at pH 3–11 with a rapid response time within a minute. The results also revealed that varying content of PEG showed a significant effect on response time compared with varying dye compositions. PLA/PEG film and dye formed new interactions where PEG increased the free volume of PLA and made it possible for the PEG and the dye to diffuse and entrap between PLA chain. In term of the film strength, the addition of PEG and dye improved the flexibility of PLA film, which enables great potential in many applications such as medical, textile, and packaging.  相似文献

Poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) is one of the new elastomers used for soft tissue engineering, while improving its limited mechanical strength is the biggest challenge. In this work, a novel biodegradable elastomer composite PGS/cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) was prepared by solution‐casting method and the mechanical properties, sol–gel contents, crosslink density, and hydrophilic performance were characterized. The thermal and degradation properties of composites were also investigated. Results show that the addition of CNCs into PGS resulted a significant improvement in tensile strength and modulus, as well as the crosslink density and the hydrophilicity of PGS. When the CNCs loading reached 4 wt %, the tensile strength and modulus of the composite reached 1.5 MPa and 1.9 MPa, respectively, resulting 204% and 158% increase compared to the pure PGS. Prolonging the curing time also improved the strength of both the neat PGS and PGS/CNCs composites according to the association and shift of hydroxy peaks around 3480 cm?1. DSC results indicate that the addition of CNCs improved both the crystallization capacity and moving capability of PGS molecular chain. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Tough biodegradable films were prepared using a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) (1:1) blend with plasticizers of glycerol (GLY), sorbitol (SOR), and their (one to one) mixture. We studied the effect of plasticization on the structural, thermal, and mechanical properties of the PVA/PVP blend films. Fourier transform infrared spectra indicated good miscibility of the two components due to the H‐bonding between the PVA and PVP molecules. The addition of plasticizers reduced the interaction between PVA and PVP, evidenced by an increase in the intensity of PVA diffraction peaks observed in the X‐ray diffraction (XRD) characterization. Thermal degradation of the blends increased as a function of the plasticizer used. GLY affected thermal degradation more than SOR and the mixtures. The incorporation of the plasticizers promoted the growth of PVA crystals as evidenced by XRD patterns and the enthalpy of fusion (ΔHf) obtained by differential scanning calorimetry measurements. The introduction of SOR to the binary blend increased toughness seven times and imparted simultaneous and pronounced improvements to maximum tensile stress and elongation at break. This behavior holds out great promise for the development of a new generation of mechanically robust, yet thoroughly biodegradable materials that could effectively supplant conventional polymers in demanding applications. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Feldspar/titanium dioxide/chitosan hybrid, a photoactive biocompatible adsorbent for anionic dyes, was synthesized, characterized, and successfully tested. The adsorbent characterization, pH role, adsorbent dose effect, equilibrium data, kinetic plats, and thermodynamic parameters are reported. The point of zero charge for the hybrid was measured to be 8.3, and the most favorable pH range for the adsorption process was found to be below this pH value. The adsorption equilibrium study demonstrated that the Freundlich model was best fitted to the experimental data. Without UV light exposure, the prepared adsorbent adsorbed 72 mg of Acid Black 1 (AB1)/g of sorbent (86% removal) from a 100‐mL solution with an initial dye concentration of 50 mg/L, whereas UV irradiation resulted in an increase in the elimination of AB1 dye (97% removal). The kinetic data was depicted well by the pseudo‐second‐order model. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the reaction between the hybrid and the dye was exothermic and also spontaneous at lower temperatures. In the batch desorption process, several aqueous solutions adjusted to different pH values were tested, and the best desorption performance (90% desorption) was achieved at pH 11. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The interaction between two dyes (AO7 and AG25) during adsorption was studied in detail with diethylenetriamine‐modified chitosan beads (CTSN‐beads) as the adsorbent. Results indicate that the adsorption capacities and rates were directly related to the molecular size of the dye. The adsorption capacity and rate of AO7 could be greatly weakened by interaction with AG 25 during adsorption, which has a larger molecular size. The adsorption followed the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic equation and Freundlich model gave a satisfying correlation with the equilibrium data both in the single and binary component system. Adsorption could be divided into three stages, each controlled by different mechanisms. Temperature experiments showed high temperature was beneficial to the mass transfer of dyes. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 41168.  相似文献

Polymer nanocomposites based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/starch blend and graphene were prepared by solution mixing and casting. Glycerol was used as a plasticizer and added in the starch dispersion. The uniform dispersion of graphene in water was achieved by using an Ultrasonicator Probe. The composites were characterized by FTIR, tensile properties, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis, and FE‐SEM studies. FTIR studies indicated probable hydrogen bonding interaction between the oxygen containing groups on graphene surface and the –OH groups in PVA and starch. Mechanical properties results showed that the optimum loading of graphene was 0.5 wt % in the blend. XRD studies indicated uniform dispersion of graphene in PVA/starch matrix upto 0.5 wt % loadings and further increase caused agglomeration. Thermal studies showed that the thermal stability of PVA increased and the crystallinity decreased in the presence of starch and graphene. FE‐SEM studies showed that incorporation of graphene increased the ductility of the composites. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2015 , 132, 41827.  相似文献

The investigation of aerogels made from cellulose nanofibers and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) as a polymeric binder is reported. Aerogels based on different nanocellulose types were studied to investigate the influence of the nanocellulose dimensions and their rigidity on the morphology and mechanical properties of the resulting aerogels. Thus, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) with low (10), medium (25), and high (80) aspect ratios, isolated from cotton, banana plants, and tunicates, respectively, microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) were dispersed in aqueous PVOH solutions and aerogels were prepared by freeze‐drying. In addition to the cellulose type, the PVOH‐ and the CNC‐concentration as well as the freeze‐drying conditions were varied, and the materials were optionally cross‐linked by an annealing step or the use of a chemical cross‐linker. The data reveal that at low PVOH content, rigid, high‐aspect ratio CNCs isolated from tunicates afford aerogels that show the least amount of shrinking upon freeze‐drying and display the best mechanical properties. However, with increasing concentration of PVOH or upon introduction of a chemical cross‐linker the differences between materials made from different nanocellulose types decrease. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work developed biodegradable poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)/polylactic acid (PBAT/PLA) composites with different fillers to improve their physicochemical properties and biodegradability. The films were tested considering mechanical, morphological, thermal, crystalline, biodegradability, and ecotoxicity tests. Mechanical and morphological results indicated that the fillers' nature influences mechanical performance; all composites showed high-tensile strength (~30 MPa) than the pristine films (~12 MPa). The use of both fillers resulted in an interface, improving the matrix compatibility, reflecting in good thermal performance, low-water absorption, and high hydrophobicity. The WA (water absorption) and hydrophobicity are essential to maintain the crop's moisture since the water lost through plant transpiration will be condensed and returned to the soil. Films showed biodegradability and absence of toxicity, which allows the substitution of polyethylene commodity films as mulching films. Biodegradation and ecotoxicity tests indicate that the developed films are beneficial for lettuce crops and contribute to the development of seedlings.  相似文献

Propolis is a complex mixture of phytochemicals, with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. All-trans retinoic acid is implicated in wound healing by stimulating angiogenesis, cell recruitment, extracellular matrix deposition, and reepithelization. The incorporation of both agents to a polymeric wound dressing composed of poly (vinyl alcohol) and sodium alginate may result in improved healing allied to controlled release, fluid uptake, and wound protection. In the present work, we have physically characterized this wound dressing and analyzed its release kinetics. The anti-inflammatory capacity was assayed. SEM images showed a highly porous structure with a diverse morphology. FTIR spectra displayed a highly cross-linked structure with both polymers connected by hydrogen bonds and acetal bridges. The wound dressings were able to retain great volumes of PBS. Propolis and vitamin A releasing behavior were maintained for 6 h. The concentrations of the biologically active substances were capable of promoting anti-inflammatory action in an erythrocyte membrane stabilization model. The wound dressings obtained here showed adequate physical properties. The fabrication process did not affect the anti-inflammatory capacity. Further tests are needed to ensure the biocompatibility and to assess other biological activities of the therapeutic agents.  相似文献

This work aims to study the possibility to process PLA/PBS/RH green composites into hexagonal plant-pots employing a large-scale industrial operation using injection molding. Green composites based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), and rice husk (RH) with various RH contents (10–30%wt.) were produced successfully using a twin-screw extruder. The compatibility of RH-matrix was improved by chemical surface modifications using a coupling agent. RH was analyzed as an effective filler for PLA to develop green composites with low cost, high biodegradability, improved processability, and comparable mechanical properties as unfilled PLA. With increasing RH content, tensile modulus of the composites increased gradually. The addition of PBS, at PLA/PBS ratio of 60/40, improved the elongation at break and impact strength of PLARH30 by 55% and 7.1%, respectively. The suitable processing temperatures for PLA decreased from 220–230°C to 170–180°C when 30%wt. RH was composited into PLA matrix and were further reduced when PBS was applied. After biodegradation via either enzymatic degradation or hydrolysis, surface erosion with a large number of voids, mass loss, and the substantial decrease in tensile strength of all the composites were observed. In addition, the biodegradation of the composites has been improved by the addition of either RH or PBS.  相似文献

An effective strategy to increase the properties of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) is the addition of carbon nanotubes (CNT). In this work, aiming to improve the surface adhesion of PLA and CNT a new compatibilizer agent was prepared by reactive processing, PLA grafted maleic anhydride (PLA-g-MA) using benzoyl peroxide and maleic anhydride. The effectiveness of the PLA-g-MA as a compatibilizer agent was verified for PLA/PLA-g-MA/CNT nanocomposites. PLA and PLA-g-MA samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) to confirm the grafting reaction of maleic anhydride on PLA chains and by rheological analysis to prove the changes in the matrix PLA after the graphitization reaction. Thermal (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis), mechanical tests (Izod impact strength and tensile test), and morphological characterization were used to verify the effect of the compatibilizer agent. The preparation of PLA-g-MA by reactive extrusion processing proved satisfactory and the nanocomposites presented good thermal and mechanical properties. The addition of the PLA-g-MA also contributed to the greater distribution of CNT and can be used as an alternative for the production of PLA/CNT nanocomposites.  相似文献

α-Cellulose extracted from jute fiber was grafted with oligo( d -lactic acid) (ODLA) via a graft polycondensation reaction in the presence of para-toluene sulfonic acid and potassium persulfate in toluene at 130 °C for 9 h under 380 mmHg. ODLA was synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization of d -lactides in the presence of stannous octoate (0.03 wt % lactide) and d -lactic acid at 140 °C for 10 h. Composites of poly( l -lactic acid) (PLLA) with the ODLA-grafted α-cellulose were prepared by the solution-mixing and film-casting methods. The grafting of ODLA onto α-cellulose was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The analysis of the composites was performed with FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis. The distribution of the grafted α-cellulose in the composites was uniform and showed better compatibility with PLLA through intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Only homocrystalline structures of PLLA were present in the composites, and the thermal stability increased with increasing percentage of grafted α-cellulose. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Blending of poly (lactic acid) (PLA)/functionalized gum arabic (FG) in presence of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) presents a simple process to produce film using melt extrusion (recycle time ~ 4 min, screw speed ~60 rpm) at 180°C with tailored characteristics. The FTIR investigation shows that the confirmation of grafting of PLA chains on FG through formation of new C─C linkage. Properties of fabricated films such as morphological, mechanical, UV barrier and contact angle are examined to develop film with improved interfacial interaction, increased toughness, UV–C blocking effect (~95%) and hydrophobicity (~14%). Polarized optical microscopy (POM) studies reveal that PLA/1FG with and without DCP has more crystal density as compared to PLA at 120°C. This melt extrusion permits straightforward, feasible bionanocomposite film and has great potential as a modification with DCP assists to overcome particular drawbacks of FG.  相似文献

This article reports on the development of biocomposites based on polylactic acid (PLA) and borassus powder. Borassus powder was treated with alkali to remove hemicelluloses and lignin. The treated borassus improved the homogeneous mixing with PLA and increased the crystallinity of PLA. Dispersibility of the borassus was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray MicroCT. PLA/borassus composites were prepared by melt mixing of PLA with 5, 10, and 15 wt % treated/untreated borassus. Composites were examined for mechanical properties and crystallization. Composites showed enhanced tensile strength compared to neat PLA. The PLA/treated borassus powder composites displayed higher crystallinity than PLA. The isothermal cold crystallization study showed increase in the crystallization rate of PLA in the presence of treated borassus. The spherulitic growth was studied using polarized optical microscopy. The enhanced performance of the PLA-borassus composites was observed in the presence of borassus. This study demonstrates that the PLA-borassus composites show great promise for bioplastics applications. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2019 , 136, 47440.  相似文献

The morphology and miscibility of commercial poly(lactide) (PLA)/poly(β‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB, from 5 to 20 wt %) blends prepared by melt extrusion method, were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) observations. The results show that for all the studied blend contents, PLA/PHB blends are immiscible. The effects of PHB and talc on the nonisothermal cold crystallization kinetics of PLA were examined using a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at different heating rates. PHB acted as a nucleating agent on PLA and the addition of talc to the blend yielded further improvement, since significant increase in the enthalpy peak was observed for samples containing 10 wt % PHB and talc (from 0.5 to 5 phr). The crystallization kinetics were then examined using the Avrami–Jeziorny and Liu–Mo approach. The simultaneous presence of PHB and talc induced a decrease of the crystallization half time. The evolution of activation energies determined with Kissinger's equation suggests that blending with PHB and incorporating talc promote nonisothermal cold crystallization of PLA. The synergistic nucleating effect of PHB and talc was also observed on isothermal crystallization of PLA from the melt. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

Porous chitosan–tripolyphosphate beads, prepared by the ionotropic crosslinking and freeze‐drying, were used for the adsorption of Cu(II) ion from aqueous solution. Batch studies, investigating bead adsorption capacity and adsorption isotherm for the Cu(II) ion, indicated that the Cu(II) ion adsorption equilibrium correlated well with Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum capacity for the adsorption of Cu(II) ion onto porous chitosan–tripolyphosphate beads, deduced from the use of the Langmuir isotherm equation, was 208.3 mg/g. The kinetics data were analyzed by pseudo‐first, pseudo‐second order kinetic, and intraparticle diffusion models. The experimental data fitted the pseudo‐second order kinetic model well, indicating that chemical sorption is the rate‐limiting step. The negative Gibbs free energy of adsorption indicated a spontaneous adsorption, while the positive enthalpy change indicated an endothermic adsorption process. This study explored the adsorption of Cu(II) ion onto porous chitosan–tripolyphosphate beads, and used SEM/EDS, TGA, and XRD to examine the properties of adsorbent. The use of porous chitosan–tripolyphosphate beads to adsorb Cu(II) ion produced better and faster results than were obtained for nonporous chitosan–tripolyphosphate beads. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The bicomponent meltblown process offers to associate two polymers in the same fiber generating fibrous media with new properties. In this study, we associate polypropylene (PP) and poly(lactic acid) (PLA), from renewable sources, polymers. The influence of primary air flow rate and the structural properties of the PP/PLA bicomponent meltblown are compared to PP and PLA monocomponent meltblown. The structural properties include fiber morphology and diameter, packing density, permeability, thermal shrinkage and crystallization. The results relate that the PP/PLA bicomponent meltblown fiber diameters are thinner than those of PLA monocomponent. Moreover, it has higher resistance to thermal shrinkage compared to PP monocomponent meltblown. The packing density and permeability are not affected by the association of PP and PLA due to low crimp effect. Two different filament formations of PP/PLA bicomponent meltblown at low and high primary air flow rate have also been observed. Lastly, this study illustrates that PP and PLA association is viable, showing the production of PP/PLA bicomponent microfiber and limited thermal shrinkage at high temperature. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
