The electrochemical performances of lithium metal batteries are determined by the kinetics of interfacial de-solvation and ion transport, especially at low-temperature environments. Here, a novel electrolyte that easily de-solvated and conducive to interfacial film formation is designed for low-temperature lithium metal batteries. A fluorinated carboxylic ester, diethyl fluoromalonate (DEFM), and a fluorinated carbonate, fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) are used as solvents, while high concentrated lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) is served as the solute. Through tailoring the electrolyte formulation, the lithium ions in the high concentrated fluorinated carboxylic ester electrolyte are mainly combined with anions, which weakens the bonding strength of lithium ions and solvent molecules in the solvation structure, beneficial to the de-solvation process at low temperature. The fluorinated carboxylic ester (FCE) electrolyte enables the LiFePO4 (LFP) | Li half-cell achieves a high capacity of 91.9 mAh g−1 at −30 °C, with high F content in the interface. With optimized de-solvation kinetics, the LFP | Li full cell remains over 100 mAh g−1 at 0 °C after cycling 100 cycles. Building new solvents with outstanding low-temperature properties and weaker solvation to match with Li metal anode, this work brings new possibilities of realizing high energy density and low temperature energy storage batteries.  相似文献

Originating from inhomogeneous Li deposition and dissolution, the formation of dendritic and/or dead Li lies as a fundamental barrier to the practical implementation of Li metal anodes for high-energy Li-ion batteries. Here, an ultraconformal and stretchable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) composed of parallelly stacked few-layer defect-free graphene nanosheets, which can deform to remain ultraconformal during the expansion and shrinkage of micro-sized Li metal particles is reported. The shape-adaptive graphene protective skin is prepared via a facile mechanical method followed by Li stripping, which enables fast Li-ion diffusion, and inhibits Li dendrites and Li pulverization. The interlayer slips and wrinkles of the graphene film endow the robust protective skin with high stretchability. This work represents a unique strategy of building ultraconformal and stretchable 2D-materials-based protective skins on the surface of Li metal toward high-energy, long-life, and safe Li metal batteries.  相似文献

Li||NMC811 battery, with lithium-metal (high specific capacity and low redox potential) as anode and LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NMC811) as cathode, has been widely accepted to be a good candidate as one of the high-energy-density batteries. However, its cyclability needs improvement to fulfill the requirement for its future commercial use, especially under practical conditions. Electrolyte plays a key role in improving the cycling performance of Li||NMC811 batteries, where a high voltage/electrochemical window and good stability with the electrodes of the electrolyte are required. Herein, a localized high-concentration electrolyte with an additive of lithium difluoro(oxalate)borate (LiDFOB) is reported that improves the cycling performance of Li||NMC811 cells under crucial conditions with Li foil thickness of 50 µm, cathode areal loading of 4 mAh cm−2, the areal capacity ratio between the negative and positive electrodes (N/P ratio) of 2.6 and the electrolyte/cell capacity ratio (E/C ratio) of 3.0 g (Ah)−1. These cells can maintain 80% of the capacity after 195 cycles.  相似文献

Rechargeable metal–sulfur batteries show great promise for energy storage applications because of their potentially high energy and low cost. The multivalent‐metal based electrochemical system exhibits the particular advantage of the feasibility of dendrite‐free metal anode. Calcium (Ca) represents a promising anode material owing to the low reductive potential, high capacity, and abundant natural resources. However, calcium–sulfur (Ca–S) battery technology is in an early R&D stage, facing the fundamental challenge to develop a suitable electrolyte enabling reversible electrochemical Ca deposition, and at the same time, sulfur redox reactions in the system. Herein, a study of a room‐temperature Ca–S battery by employing a stable and efficient calcium tetrakis(hexafluoroisopropyloxy) borate Ca[B(hfip)4]2 electrolyte is presented. The Ca–S batteries exhibit a cell voltage of ≈ 2.1 V (close to its thermodynamic value) and good reversibility. The mechanistic studies hint at a redox chemistry of sulfur with polysulfide/sulfide species involved in the Ca‐based system.  相似文献

Lithium-metal batteries (LMBs) with high energy densities are highly desirable for energy storage, but generally suffer from dendrite growth and side reactions in liquid electrolytes; thus the need for solid electrolytes with high mechanical strength, ionic conductivity, and compatible interface arises. Herein, a thiol-branched solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) is introduced featuring high Li+ conductivity (2.26 × 10−4 S cm−1 at room temperature) and good mechanical strength (9.4 MPa)/toughness (≈500%), thus unblocking the tradeoff between ionic conductivity and mechanical robustness in polymer electrolytes. The SPE (denoted as M-S-PEGDA) is fabricated by covalently cross-linking metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), tetrakis (3-mercaptopropionic acid) pentaerythritol (PETMP), and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) via multiple C S C bonds. The SPE also exhibits a high electrochemical window (>5.4 V), low interfacial impedance (<550 Ω), and impressive Li+ transference number (tLi+ = 0.44). As a result, Li||Li symmetrical cells with the thiol-branched SPE displayed a high stability in a >1300 h cycling test. Moreover, a Li|M-S-PEGDA|LiFePO4 full cell demonstrates discharge capacity of 143.7 mAh g−1 and maintains 85.6% after 500 cycles at 0.5 C, displaying one of the most outstanding performances for SPEs to date.  相似文献

Lithium‐metal batteries (LMBs), as one of the most promising next‐generation high‐energy‐density storage devices, are able to meet the rigid demands of new industries. However, the direct utilization of metallic lithium can induce harsh safety issues, inferior rate and cycle performance, or anode pulverization inside the cells. These drawbacks severely hinder the commercialization of LMBs. Here, an up‐to‐date review of the behavior of lithium ions upon deposition/dissolution, and the failure mechanisms of lithium‐metal anodes is presented. It has been shown that the primary causes consist of the growth of lithium dendrites due to large polarization and a strong electric field at the vicinity of the anode, the hyperactivity of metallic lithium, and hostless infinite volume changes upon cycling. The recent advances in liquid organic electrolyte (LOE) systems through modulating the local current density, anion depletion, lithium flux, the anode–electrolyte interface, or the mechanical strength of the interlayers are highlighted. Concrete strategies including tailoring the anode structures, optimizing the electrolytes, building artificial anode–electrolyte interfaces, and functionalizing the protective interlayers are summarized in detail. Furthermore, the challenges remaining in LOE systems are outlined, and the future perspectives of introducing solid‐state electrolytes to radically address safety issues are presented.  相似文献

Lithium-ion batteries have remained a state-of-the-art electrochemical energy storage technology for decades now, but their energy densities are limited by electrode materials and conventional liquid electrolytes can pose significant safety concerns. Lithium metal batteries featuring Li metal anodes, solid polymer electrolytes, and high-voltage cathodes represent promising candidates for next-generation devices exhibiting improved power and safety, but such solid polymer electrolytes generally do not exhibit the required excellent electrochemical properties and thermal stability in tandem. Here, an interpenetrating network polymer with weakly coordinating anion nodes that functions as a high-performing single-ion conducting electrolyte in the presence of minimal plasticizer, with a wide electrochemical stability window, a high room-temperature conductivity of 1.5 × 10−4 S cm−1, and exceptional selectivity for Li-ion conduction (tLi+ = 0.95) is reported. Importantly, this material is also flame retardant and highly stable in contact with lithium metal. Significantly, a lithium metal battery prototype containing this quasi-solid electrolyte is shown to outperform a conventional battery featuring a polymer electrolyte.  相似文献

With increasing demands for safe, high capacity energy storage to support personal electronics, newer devices such as unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as the commercialization of electric vehicles, current energy storage technologies are facing increased challenges. Although alternative batteries have been intensively investigated, lithium (Li) batteries are still recognized as the preferred energy storage solution for the consumer electronics markets and next generation automobiles. However, the commercialized Li batteries still have disadvantages, such as low capacities, potential safety issues, and unfavorable cycling life. Therefore, the design and development of electromaterials toward high-energy-density, long-life-span Li batteries with improved safety is a focus for researchers in the field of energy materials. Herein, recent advances in the development of novel organic electrolytes are summarized toward solid-state Li batteries with higher energy density and improved safety. On the basis of new insights into ionic conduction and design principles of organic-based solid-state electrolytes, specific strategies toward developing these electrolytes for Li metal anodes, high-energy-density cathode materials (e.g., high voltage materials), as well as the optimization of cathode formulations are outlined. Finally, prospects for next generation solid-state electrolytes are also proposed.  相似文献

Ceramic/polymer hybrid solid electrolytes (HSEs) have attracted worldwide attentions because they can overcome defects by combining the advantages of ceramic electrolytes (CEs) and solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs). However, the interface compatibility of CEs and SPEs in HSE limits their full function to a great extent. Herein, a flexible ceramic/polymer HSE is prepared via in situ coupling reaction. Ceramic and polymer are closely combined by strong chemical bonds, thus the problem of interface compatibility is resolved and the ions can transport rapidly by an expressway. The as-prepared membrane demonstrates an ionic conductivity of 9.83 × 10−4 S cm−1 at room temperature and a high Li+ transference numbers of 0.68. This in situ coupling reaction method provides an effective way to resolve the problem of interface compatibility.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal anodes (LMAs) are promising anode candidates for realizing high-energy-density batteries. However, the formation of unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers on Li metal is harmful for stable Li cycling; hence, enhancing the physical/chemical properties of SEI layers is important for stabilizing LMAs. Herein, thiourea (TU, CH4N2S) is introduced as a new catalyzing agent for LiNO3 reduction to form robust inorganic-rich SEI layers containing abundant Li3N. Due to the unique molecular structure of TU, the TU molecules adsorb on the Cu electrode by forming Cu S bond and simultaneously form hydrogen bonding with other hydrogen bonds accepting species such as NO3 and TFSI through its N H bonds, leading to their catalyzed reduction and hence the formation of inorganic-rich SEI layer with abundant Li3N, LiF, and Li2S/Li2S2. Particularly, this TU-modified SEI layer shows a lower film resistance and better uniformity compared to the electrochemically and naturally formed SEI layers, enabling planar Li growth without any other material treatments and hence improving the cyclic stability in Li/Cu half-cells and Li@Cu/LiFePO4 full-cells.  相似文献

Considerable efforts are devoted to relieve the critical lithium dendritic and volume change problems in the lithium metal anode. Constructing uniform Li+ distribution and lithium “host” are shown to be the most promising strategies to drive practical lithium metal anode development. Herein, a uniform Li nucleation/growth behavior in a confined nanospace is verified by constructing vertical graphene on a 3D commercial copper mesh. The difference of solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) composition and lithium growth behavior in the confined nanospace is further demonstrated by in‐depth X‐ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) and line‐scan energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopic (EDS) methods. As a result, a high Columbic efficiency of 97% beyond 250 cycles at a current density of 2 mA cm?2 and a prolonged lifespan of symmetrical cell (500 cycles at 5 mA cm?2) can be easily achieved. More meaningfully, the solid‐state lithium metal cell paired with the composite lithium anode and LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 (NCM) as the cathode also demonstrate reduced polarization and extended cycle. The present confined nanospace–derived hybrid anode can further promote the development of future all solid‐state lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

The lithium (Li) metal anode is confronted by severe interfacial issues that strongly hinder its practical deployment. The unstable interfaces directly induce unfavorable low cycling efficiency, dendritic Li deposition, and even strong safety concerns. An advanced artificial protective layer with single‐ion pathways holds great promise for enabling a spatially homogeneous ionic and electric field distribution over Li metal surface, therefore well protecting the Li metal anode during long‐term working conditions. Herein, a robust dual‐phase artificial interface is constructed, where not only the single‐ion‐conducting nature, but also high mechanical rigidity and considerable deformability can be fulfilled simultaneously by the rational integration of a garnet Al‐doped Li6.75La3Zr1.75Ta0.25O12‐based bottom layer and a lithiated Nafion top layer. The as‐constructed artificial solid electrolyte interphase is demonstrated to significantly stabilize the repeated cell charging/discharging process via regulating a facile Li‐ion transport and a compact Li plating behavior, hence contributing to a higher coulombic efficiency and a considerably enhanced cyclability of lithium metal batteries. This work highlights the significance of rational manipulation of the interfacial properties of a working Li metal anode and affords fresh insights into achieving dendrite‐free Li deposition behavior in a working battery.  相似文献

The practical implementation of the lithium metal anode is hindered by obstacles such as Li dendrite growth, large volume changes, and poor lifespan. Here, copper nitride nanowires (Cu3N NWs) printed Li by a facile and low-cost roll-press method is reported, to operate in carbonate electrolytes for high-voltage cathode materials. Through one-step roll pressing, Cu3N NWs can be conformally printed onto the Li metal surface, and form a Li3N@Cu NWs layer on the Li metal. The Li3N@Cu NWs layer can assist homogeneous Li-ion flux with the 3D channel structure, as well as the high Li-ion conductivity of the Li3N. With those beneficial effects, the Li3N@Cu NWs layer can guide Li to deposit into a dense and planar structure without Li-dendrite growth. Li metal with Li3N@Cu NWs protection layer exhibits outstanding cycling performances even at a high current density of 5.0 mA cm−2 with low overpotentials in Li symmetric cells. Furthermore, the stable cyclability and improved rate capability can be realized in a full cell using LiCoO2 over 300 cycles. When decoupling the irreversible reactions of the cathode using Li4Ti5O12, stable cycling performance over 1000 cycles can be achieved at a practical current density of ≈2 mA cm−2.  相似文献

Uncontrolled ion transport and susceptible SEI films are the key factors that induce lithium dendrite growth, which hinders the development of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, a TpPa-2SO3H covalent organic framework (COF) nanosheet adhered cellulose nanofibers (CNF) on the polypropylene separator (COF@PP) is successfully designed as a battery separator to respond to the aforementioned issues. The COF@PP displays dual-functional characteristics with the aligned nanochannels and abundant functional groups of COFs, which can simultaneously modulate ion transport and SEI film components to build robust lithium metal anodes. The Li//COF@PP//Li symmetric cell exhibits stable cycling over 800 h with low ion diffusion activation energy and fast lithium ion transport kinetics, which effectively suppresses the dendrite growth and improves the stability of Li+ plating/stripping. Moreover, The LiFePO4//Li cells with COF@PP separator deliver a high discharge capacity of 109.6 mAh g−1 even at a high current density of 3 C. And it exhibits excellent cycle stability and high capacity retention due to the robust LiF-rich SEI film induced by COFs. This COFs-based dual-functional separator promotes the practical application of lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

Uncontrollable Li dendrite growth and low Coulombic efficiency severely hinder the application of lithium metal batteries. Although a lot of approaches have been developed to control Li deposition, most of them are based on inhibiting lithium deposition on protrusions, which can suppress Li dendrite growth at low current density, but is inefficient for practical battery applications, with high current density and large area capacity. Here, a novel leveling mechanism based on accelerating Li growth in concave fashion is proposed, which enables uniform and dendrite‐free Li plating by simply adding thiourea into the electrolyte. The small thiourea molecules can be absorbed on the Li metal surface and promote Li growth with a superfilling effect. With 0.02 m thiourea added in the electrolyte, Li | Li symmetrical cells can be cycled over 1000 cycles at 5.0 mA cm?2, and a full cell with LiFePO4 | Li configuration can even maintain 90% capacity after 650 cycles at 5.0 C. The superfilling effect is also verified by computational chemistry and numerical simulation, and can be expanded to a series of small chemicals using as electrolyte additives. It offers a new avenue to dendrite‐free lithium deposition and may also be expanded to other battery chemistries.  相似文献
