Huizhou: Model City for Chinese-Foreign Petrochem Cooperation

Riyal Dutch/Shell Group has been very active in China since it re-entered the nation in the early 1980s. The largest investment project Shell has made in China is the Nanhai petrochemicals project, a 50-50 joint venture with CNOOC in Huizhou City in South China's Guangdong Province.     

Shell and PetroChina Launch Changbei Natural Gas Project

PetroChina and Shell China Exploration and Production Company Limited announced on May 17, 2005, that they would go ahead with the joint development of Changbei natural gas field in China's Shaanxi Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the first onshore natural gas field project of Shell in China. The total development costs for the project will be about US$ 600 million.     

Shell Chalks up Expansion Plans for More Gas Pumps

Shell (China) Limited announced in mid-October that it planned to develop 100 gas stations in Shaanxi Province with its Chinese partners, in a move to expand its oil retail network in the country. It will develop the stations through Shaanxi Yanchang-Shell Petroleum Co., Ltd., a joint venture among Shell, Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd. and Shaanxi Tianli Investment Co., Ltd. Shell has a 45-percent stake in the joint venture, which was established last year, while Yangchang and Tianli hold a 46 percent stake and a 9 percent interest respectively.     

Shell Delays CTL Venture with Shenhua

Royal Dutch Shell has recently made a decision to postpone a coal-to-liquids (CTL) joint project with Shenhua Group in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region."In a period of economic downturn, we have postponed the project due to a number of reasons," Lira Haw Kuang,Executive Chairman of Shell Companies in China, told the news media in mid April without elaborating. But the company will keep playing an active role in China's coal gasification sector, Lim added.     

CNOOC,Shell Engaged in Cooperation in Exploration of Bohai Bay Area

CNOOC announced singing of a production sharing contract with Shell Exploration China Limited in mid-January this year for exploration of Bonan block in Bohai Bay basin area.Under the contract, Shell will act as operator to drill two wildcat well at least in the first two years, with options for two further wildcat wells in the following four years. The contract also confirmed the rights of Shell for participation in development activities with CNOOC if commercial oil and gas was found …

Shell Cooperate with Chinese Partners for CTL Technology

Shell (China) Ltd., Shenhua Group Corporation Ltd and Ningxia Coal Industry Co. Ltd. (Ningmei) signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing on 15 November,2004, to work together to develop clean liquid fuel from coal in China. The three companies will be looking at the possible application of Shell's Coal-to-Liquids (CTL)technologies in China during a nine-month Pre-Feasibility Study that will analyze the market, evaluate the economics,review technical solutions and regulations, and identify possible sites for projects.

Shell and Unocal Withdraw from East China Sea Gas Project

Royal Dutch/Shell and US-based Unocal Corporation announced on September 29 that they have withdrawn from the large-scale gas project for joint exploration, development,and marketing of natural gas resources in the Xihu Trough of the East China Sea citing "commercial reasons." The pull-out by their overseas partners leaves Sinopec and CNOOC - the second and third largest domestic oil firms - the only operators in the project.
