The resonance modes of dielectric resonators having parallelepiped shape are extensively investigated in this work referring to the nonradiative dielectric (NRD) topology. Different numerical techniques, both rigorous and approximated (boundary elements, point matching, finite elements, transmission line approaches), are proposed and implemented to compute the relevant resonance spectrum as a function of the involved geometric and electromagnetic parameters. The theoretical results are discussed and compared also in connection with experimental investigations, carried out on suitable prototypes of NRD components. Qualitative and quantitative information is thus achieved to characterize with accuracy and efficiency the basic parameters (resonant frequencies, field configurations, etc.) involved in filter design and in other applications at microwaves and millimeter waves.  相似文献

A new substrate integrated circuits (SICs) fabrication technique is proposed for realizing nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide circuits. This new technique called substrate integrated NRD (SINRD) guide allows the NRD guide be integrated within a dielectric substrate by drilling a pattern of air holes. Dispersion analysis and design considerations of the new structure are discussed. A hybrid integrated scheme of planar and SINRD circuits is demonstrated for the first time with simulation and measurement results.  相似文献

This paper describes the full-wave numerical analysis of complex nonradiative dielectric (NRD) guide structures including linear or nonlinear lumped elements. The numerical results described in this paper, validated through experimentation, show that the method is suitable for NRD guide and similar circuits. Nonlinear analysis of a single-ended NRD guide mixer is carried out, and the results are experimentally verified. Nonlinear harmonic-balance analysis of a novel leaky-wave balanced mixer circuit with very good tolerance of manufacturing inaccuracies in NRD guide configuration in Ka-band is then carried out. Due to curved segments, and orders of magnitude difference in the dimensions of different parts, the analysis of this component requires certain simplifying assumptions. How these can be implemented without sacrificing much accuracy is described. Until now, the design of NRD guide components, especially those using nonlinear effects, has been mostly trial-and-error-based. Here we demonstrate that a more systematic approach is possible.  相似文献

In this work, the quality factors and the coupling effects have been investigated for parallelepiped dielectric resonators in nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide, in order to achieve fundamental information for the design of various types of advanced filters. The unloaded quality factor has been calculated taking into account both conductor and dielectric losses through a straightforward version of the perturbation method. The electromagnetic coupling as a function of the distance between NRD guide and resonators has been evaluated through proper extensions of typical lumped equivalent circuits, thus quantifying resonance frequency shifts, external and loaded quality factors, etc.. To validate the derived theoretical models, suitable measurements of all these parameters have been performed at microwaves on X-band NRD prototypes.  相似文献

Ruggedness, wide capacitance range, high volumetric efficiency, and relatively attractive cost have been the main reasons for the popularity of ceramic chip capacitors. Continuing improvements in most of these categories promise to keep the ceramic chip in its present position of prominence. This article considers multilayer, single-layer, and screened-on configurations. A generalized surface-volume integral-equation approach (SVIE) has been proposed and developed for accurate modeling and analysis of hybrid planar/nonradiating dielectric (NRD)-guide integrated circuits. On the basis of vertical modes in basis functions for NRD-guide circuits, vertical integration in space-domain is carried out analytically and a set of first-order Green's functions is constructed. Then, the solution of the volume integral-equation concerning with the NRD-guide circuits has been reduced to a two-dimensional planar problem in connection with each vertical mode. In this way, only the diagonal submatrices need to be calculated due to the orthogonal property of different vertical modes. A reduced calculation region technique is used for handling higher order vertical modes in which the fields are confined in the slot areas and their vicinities. The method was applied to a class of different hybrid structures. The results are in good agreement with measured results or the results obtained with other methods.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel numerically efficient time-domain beam propagation method based on the versatile finite element method (FETDBPM) is presented for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped optical integrated circuits. Lumping the global mass matrix into a diagonal matrix, an explicit full band finite-element time-domain propagation algorithm that needs only matrix-vector multiplication at each time step is derived. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed FETDBPM is demonstrated through the analysis of propagation in different photonic integrated structures.  相似文献

An ultra-small integrated photonic circuit has been proposed,which incorporates a high-quality-factor passive micro-ring resonator(MR) linked to a vertical grating coupler on a standard silicon-on-insulator(SOI) substrate.The experimental results demonstrate that the MR propagation loss is 0.532 dB/cm with a 10μm radius ring resonator,the intrinsic quality factor is as high as 202.000,the waveguide grating wavelength response curve is a 1 dB bandwidth of 40 nm at 1540 nm telecommunication wavelengths,and the measured fiber-to-fiber coupling loss is 10 dB.Furthermore,the resonator wavelength temperature dependence of the 450 nm wide micro-ring resonator is 54.1 pm/℃.Such vertical grating coupler and low loss MR-integrated components greatly promote a key element in biosensors and high-speed interconnect communication applications.  相似文献

The letter presents the results of an initial study performed in the development of millimetre-wave dielectric waveguide integrated circuits using novel thick-film printing techniques. The measurements of the propagation characteristics of sample lines at 60 GHz demonstrate the feasibility of such an approach and examples of printed components indicate its potential in low-cost high-volume applications.  相似文献

In this paper, transmission losses of the generalized nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide are modeled and presented by our closed-form equations for the design of hybrid and monolithic millimeter-wave integrated circuits. This generalized structure includes our recently proposed channelized NRD-guide. Parametric effects are studied with respect to complex propagation constant and characteristic impedance, and some useful guidelines are generated for practical design considerations. Calculated results are discussed separately for the conductor and dielectric losses for the two fundamental longitudinal section electric (LSE) and longitudinal section magnetic (LSM) modes. It is found that the LSE mode may have losses, in some cases, comparable or even smaller than those of its LSM counterpart, contradicting what has usually been perceived for the conventional NRD-guide design  相似文献

From the dispersion characteristics the dielectric loss conductor loss and wave impedances are derived. Effect of metallic walls on trapped insulated image guide are also discussed. The factors which can influence the performance and reliability of the interconnection system for solid-state components in hybrid integrated circuits are examined. The main emphasis is on materials that have received most attention in the tantalum film and silicon technologies in the Bell System. However, other materials that are being used are discussed. The interrelation of various factors in choosing an interconnection system is discussed. These factors include the composition of the materials, the methods of depositing various metals, and the properties of the substrates. Among the properties of the materials that are considered, emphasis is laid on environmental stability. The results of environmental tests on conductors and thin-film resistors under high-humidity conditions are reported. Some results on the use of silicone rubber as an encapsulant indicate this material is effective in reducing degradative action on hybrid circuits.  相似文献

An etched mesa silicon lateral phototransistor (EMS-LPT) suitable for detecting the light signal from optical channel waveguides has been designed and fabricated. In this paper both n+-p-n+uniform base and n+-p-p--n+double-diffused EMS-LPT's are reported. The photoactive region of the EMS-LPT is highly localized and can be easily coupled either via an evanescent field or to a grating coupler on a channel waveguide. Light coupling, gain, speed, and signal-to-noise ratio of the device are thereby greatly improved. The fabrication techniques of the EMS-LPT's are compatible with those of MOSFET's, permitting integration of multiple EMS-LPT's and MOSFET load transistors to form optically addressed inverters on the same silicon chip. By flip-chip bonding LiNbO3and silicon substrates and coupling LiNbO3channel waveguides to EMS-LPT's via grating couplers, we produce electrooptic switches with optical input and output.  相似文献
