Nanostructured and conventional Al2O3-13wt.%TiO2 ceramic coatings were prepared by plasma spraying with nanostructured agglomerated and conventional powders, respectively. The microstructure and microhardness of the coatings were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and microhardness measurement. Meanwhile, the friction and wear behaviors were analyzed and compared using a ball-on-disk tribometer. The results show that the conventional coating has lamellar stacking characteristic and has some pores. However, the nanostructured coating shows a bimodal microstructure, which is composed of both fully melted regions and partially melted regions. According to the microstructural difference, the partially melted regions can be divided into liquid-phase sintered regions (a three-dimensional net or skeleton-like structure: Al2O3-rich submicron particles embedded in the TiO2-rich matrix) and solid-phase sintered regions (remained nanoparticles). The microstructural characteristics of the liquid-phase sintered region are formed due to the selective melting of TiO2 nanoparticles during plasma spraying. On the other hand, the TiO2 and Al2O3 nanoparticles of the solid-phase sintered regions are all unmelted during plasma spraying. Due to the existence of nanostructured microstructures, the nanostructured coating has a higher microhardness, a lower friction coefficient, and a better wear resistance than the conventional coating.  相似文献

Strontium zirconate (SrZrO3) thermal barrier coatings were deposited by solution precursor plasma spray (SPPS) using an aqueous precursor solution. The phase transition of the SrZrO3 coating and the influence of the aging time at 1400 °C on the microstructure, phase stability, thermal expansion coefficient, and thermal conductivity of the coating were investigated. The unique features of SPPS coatings, such as interpass boundary (IPB) structures, nano- and micrometer porosity, and through-thickness vertical cracks, were clearly observed evidently in the coatings. The vertical cracks of the coatings remained substantially unchanged while the IPB structures gradually diminished with prolonged heat treatment time. t-ZrO2 developed in the coatings transformed completely to m-ZrO2 phase after heat treatment for 100 h. Meanwhile, the SrZrO3 phase in the coatings exhibited good phase stability upon heat treatment. Three phase transitions in the SrZrO3 coatings were revealed by thermal expansion measurements. The thermal conductivity of the as-sprayed SrZrO3 coating was ~1.25 W m?1 K?1 at 1000 °C and remained stable after heat treatment at 1400 °C for 360 h, revealing good sintering resistance.  相似文献

The effect of heat treatment on the thermal conductivity of plasma-sprayed Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) and Al2O3 coatings was investigated. A heat treatment of 1300 °C in flowing argon for 50 h was found to significantly increase the thermal conductivity of the coatings when compared to measurements in the assprayed condition. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examination of the microstructures of the coatings in the as-sprayed and heat-treated conditions revealed that sintering of microcracks at the splat interfaces was the main cause for the increase in thermal conductivity. In the YSZ coatings, complete closure of microcracks was frequently observed. In contrast, microcrack closure in the Al2O3 coatings was characterized by the isolated necking of particles across a microcrack rather than complete closure. A model for thermal conductivity in a solid containing oriented penny-shaped cracks was used to explain the observed increase in thermal conductivity after heat treatment.  相似文献

Corrosion resistance improvement of plasma electrolyte oxidation coatings on 6061 aluminum alloy in silicate electrolyte containing Al2O3 nano-particles was studied, with particular emphasis on the microstructure, coating growth, and corrosion behavior in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. The microstructure of coatings, their thickness, and phase composition were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. All characterization data showed that the maximum coating thickness and lowest amount of porosity were obtained in a low concentration of KOH, a high concentration of Na2SiO3, and moderate concentration of Al2O3 nano-particles in the electrolyte. This combination describes the optimum plasma electrolytic oxidation electrolyte, which has the best conductivity and oxidizing state, as well as the highest incorporation of electrolyte components in the coating growth process. On the other hand, incorporation and co-deposition of Al2O3 nano-particles were more pronounced than SiO3 2? ions in some level of molar concentration, which is due to the higher impact of electron discharge force on the adsorption of Al2O3 nano-particles. The electrochemical results showed that the best protective behavior was obtained in the sample having a coat with the lowest porosity and highest thickness.  相似文献

Plasma-sprayed yttria-stabilized zirconia coatings have a complex microstructure consisting of a variety of pores and cracks. These microstructure features which are determined by the spray process are known to influence the thermal conductivity of coatings. In this article, the microstructure features such as total porosity, large pores, and small pores were quantified by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis, and for each spray process, the particle velocity and particle temperature were measured prior to impact onto the substrate using the online monitoring system (Spray Watch 2i). Multiple linear regression was used to find the relationship between the particle state and the spray gun parameters. The linear regression models were also investigated between the particle state and the microstructure features, in addition, between the microstructure features and the thermal conductivity. The comprehensive correlation of spray process-microstructure-thermal conductivity was established for plasma-sprayed ZrO2 coatings.  相似文献

The microstructure of the coating prepared by reactive plasma spraying Fe2O3/Al composite powders was characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicated that the coating exhibited nanostructured microstructure which consisted of FeAl2O4, Fe or Fe solid solution, Al2O3 and a little FeAl. In the composite coating, spherical Fe particles (tens of nanometers to hundreds of nanometers) were distributed uniformly within the equiaxed and columnar nanograins FeAl2O4 matrix. There were two kinds of Al2O3 phases present in the composite coating. One kind was nano-sized Al2O3 particles uniformly dispersed within the matrix, forming eutectic structure of (FeAl2O4 + γ-Al2O3); the other was 1-1.5 μm Al2O3 particles embedded individually within the matrix. The composite coating had higher toughness than the conventional microstructured Al2O3 coating.  相似文献

Al2O3 /xZrO2 (where x = 0, 3, 13, and 20 wt.%) composite coatings were deposited onto mild steel substrates by atmospheric plasma spraying of mixed α-Al2O3 and nano-sized monoclinic-ZrO2 powders. Microstructural investigation showed that the coatings comprised well-separated Al2O3 and ZrO2 lamellae, pores, and partially molten particles. The coating comprised mainly of metastable γ-Al2O3 and tetragonal-ZrO2 with trace of original α-Al2O3 and monoclinic-ZrO2 phases. The effect of ZrO2 addition on the properties of coatings were investigated in terms of microhardness, fracture toughness, and wear behavior. It was found that ZrO2 improved the fracture toughness, reduced friction coefficient, and wear rate of the coatings.  相似文献

In this paper, investigation into solid particle erosion behavior of atmospheric plasma-sprayed composite coating of CoCrAlY reinforced with Al2O3 and CeO2 oxides on Superni 76 at elevated temperature of 600 °C is presented. Alumina particles are used as erodent at two impact angles of 30° and 90°. The microstructure, porosity, hardness, toughness and adhesion properties of the as-sprayed coatings are studied. The effects of temperature and phase transformation in the coatings during erosion process are analyzed using XRD and EDS techniques. Optical profilometer is used for accurate elucidation of erosion volume loss. CoCrAlY/CeO2 coating showed better erosion resistance with a volume loss of about 50% of what was observed in case of CoCrAlY/Al2O3/YSZ coating. Lower erosion loss is observed at 90° as compared to 30° impact angle. The erosion mechanism evaluated using SEM micrograph revealed that the coatings experienced ductile fracture exhibiting severe deformation with unusual oxide cracks. Reinforced metal oxides provide shielding effect for erodent impact, enabling better erosion resistance. The oxidation of the coating due to high-temperature exposure reforms erosion process into oxidation-modified erosion process.  相似文献

Al5Mg alloy matrix composites reinforced with different percentages of Al2O3 (60 μm) or C (90 μm) particulates were prepared by the vortex method. The composites were then subjected to hot or cold rolling with different reduction ratios. The microstructures of the rolled composites revealed that the matrix grains moved around the particulate causing deformation. By continuing deformation, the particulates rearranged themselves in the matrix, leading to lensoid distortion. It was found that the addition of Al2O3 or C particulates increased the 0.2% proof stress and reduced both the tensile strength and ductility, compared with the monolithic alloy. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) fractographic examinations showed that the composites reinforced with Al2O3 particulates failed through particulate fracture and matrix ligament rupture. However, the failure of the composites reinforced with C particulates was through particulate decohesion, followed by ductile failure of the matrix. Abrasive wear results showed that the wear rate of the Al5Mg alloy decreased with the addition of C particulates. However, increasing the volume fraction of C particulates did not have a prominent effect on the wear rate. The composites reinforced with Al2O3 particulates exhibited a higher wear rate than that of the unreinforced alloy. Furthermore, addition of both C and Al2O3 particulates into the Al5Mg matrix alloy did not significantly improve the wear resistance. For all composites studied in this work, hot or cold rolling had a marginal effect on the wear results.  相似文献

In the present work, Yb2Si2O7 powder was synthesized by solid-state reaction using Yb2O3 and SiO2 powders as starting materials. Atmospheric plasma spray technique was applied to fabricate Yb2Si2O7 coating. The phase composition and microstructure of the coating were characterized. The density, open porosity and Vickers hardness of the coating were investigated. Its thermal stability was evaluated by thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the coating were measured. The results showed that the as-sprayed coating was mainly composed of crystalline Yb2Si2O7 with amorphous phase. The coating had a dense structure containing defects, such as pores, interfaces and microcracks. The TG-DTA results showed that there was almost no mass change from room temperature to 1200 °C, while a sharp exothermic peak appeared at around 1038 °C in DTA curve, which indicated that the amorphous phase crystallized. The thermal conductivity of the coating decreased with rise in temperature up to 600 °C and then followed by an increase at higher temperatures. The minimum value of the thermal conductivity of the Yb2Si2O7 coating was about 0.68 W/(m K).  相似文献

The fracture toughness of plasma-sprayed Al2O3 coatings in terms of critical strain energy release rate G Ic was investigated using a tapered double cantilever beam (TDCB) approach. This approach makes the fracture toughness be measured only using the critical fracture load disregarding crack length during test. The Al2O3 coatings were deposited under different spray distances and plasma powers to clarify the effect of spray parameters on the G Ic of the coatings. The fracture surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscope. On the basis of an idealized layer microstructure model for thermal sprayed coatings, the theoretical relationship between the cohesive fracture toughness and microstructure is proposed. The correlation between the calculated fracture toughness and observed value is examined. It was found that the fracture toughness of plasma sprayed Al2O3 coatings is not significantly influenced by spray distance up to 110 mm, and further increase in spray distance to 130 mm resulted in large decrease in the fracture toughness of the coatings. The G Ic value predicted based on the proposed model using lamellar interface mean bonding ratio and the effective surface energy of bulk ceramics agreed well with the observed G Ic data. Such agreement evidently shows that the fracture toughness of thermally sprayed ceramic coatings at the direction along coating surface is determined by lamellar interface bonding.  相似文献

Methods of X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were used to study the microstructure of dispersion-strengthened Cu-Al2O3 nanocomposites obtained by the method of simultaneous deposition of Cu and Al2O3 from the vapor phase. The effect of the size of particles of the oxide (Al2O3) and of their content on the electrical resistance of the composite has been considered. The results obtained make it possible to suppose that the main structural factor that determines the electrical resistance of the composite are nanodispersed particles of Al2O3 with a size of less than 20 nm.  相似文献

In the present investigation, the microstructures and growth morphology of Mg32(Al,Zn)49 Frank-Kasper phase in rapidly solidified Mg32Al17Zn32 ternary alloys were studied in detail. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive spectrum (EDS). The results show that the microstructures mainly consist of Mg32(Al,Zn)49 Frank-Kasper phase and interdendritic Mg-rich Φ-phase. Under rapid solidification condition, Mg32(Al,Zn)49 Frank-Kasper phase reveals a perfect faceted dendritic characteristic in the shape of a three-fold symmetric microstructure with doublet tips in the axes direction. Observations for fracture surfaces show that the growth morphology of Mg32(Al,Zn)49 grains was truncated cubic, and its growth mechanism was also discussed.  相似文献

The formation and decomposition of aluminum titanate (Al2TiO5, tialite) in feedstock powders and coatings of the binary Al2O3-TiO2 system are so far poorly understood. A commercial fused and crushed Al2O3-40%TiO2 powder was selected as the feedstock for the experimental series presented in this paper, as the composition is close to that of Al2TiO5. Part of that powder was heat-treated in air at 1150 and 1500 °C in order to modify the phase composition, while not influencing the particle size distribution and processability. The powders were analyzed by thermal analysis, XRD and FESEM including EDS of metallographically prepared cross sections. Only a maximum content of about 45 wt.% Al2TiO5 was possible to obtain with the heat treatment at 1500 °C due to inhomogeneous distribution of Al and Ti in the original powder. Coatings were prepared by plasma spraying using a TriplexPro-210 (Oerlikon Metco) with Ar-H2 and Ar-He plasma gas mixtures at plasma power levels of 41 and 48 kW. Coatings were studied by XRD, SEM including EDS linescans of metallographically prepared cross sections, and microhardness HV1. With the exception of the powder heat-treated at 1500 °C an Al2TiO5-Ti3O5 (tialite–anosovite) solid solution Al2?xTi1+xO5 instead of Al2TiO5 existed in the initial powder and the coatings.  相似文献

Al2O3/Cu composites were prepared by external addition of Al2O3, and the effect of Al2O3 content on microstructure, density, hardness, electrical conductivity and vacuum electrical breakdown properties was studied. The results show that with increasing Al2O3 addition, the density of Al2O3/Cu composite significantly decreases, the hardness sharply increases and then slowly decreases, but the electrical conductivity invariably decreases. The vacuum breakdown test shows that with increasing Al2O3 addition, the breakdown strength first sharply increases and then decreases when the Al2O3 content exceeds 1.2 wt.%; the chopping current always exhibits a decreasing trend and the arc life first increases and then decreases. According to the morphology of arc erosion and analysis, the arc erosion resistance increases and then decreases sharply. In the range of experiments, the optimal arc erosion resistance of Al2O3/Cu composite can be obtained with the addition of 1.2 wt.% Al2O3.  相似文献

Compositions in the system Cr2O3-TiO2-Al2O3 are among the most used ceramic materials for thermally sprayed coating solutions. Cr2O3 coatings present good sliding wear resistance; Al2O3 coatings show excellent insulation behavior and TiO2 striking corrosion properties. In order to combine these properties, coatings containing more than one oxide are highly interesting. The conventional spraying process is limited to the availability of binary feedstock powders with defined compositions. The use of suspensions offers the opportunity for tailor-made chemical compositions: within the triangle of Cr2O3-TiO2-Al2O3, each mixture of oxides can be created. Criteria for the selection of raw materials as well as the relevant aspects for the development of binary suspensions in the Cr2O3-TiO2-Al2O3 system to be used as feedstock for thermal spraying are presented. This formulation of binary suspensions required the development of water-based single-oxide suspensions with suitable behavior; otherwise, the interaction between the particles while mixing could lead up to a formation of agglomerates, which affect both the stability of the spray process and the coating properties. For the validation of this formulation procedure, binary Cr2O3-TiO2 and Al2O3-TiO2 suspensions were developed and sprayed using the S-HVOF process. The binary coatings were characterized and discussed in terms of microstructure and microhardness.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of nano-Si3N4 additives and plasma treatment on the wear behavior of Al2O3-8YSZ ceramic coatings was studied. Nano-Al2O3, nano-8YSZ (8 wt.% Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2) and nano-Si3N4 powders were used as raw materials to fabricate four types of sprayable feedstocks. Plasma treatment was used to improve the properties of the feedstocks. The surface morphologies of the ceramic coatings were observed. The mechanical properties of the ceramic coatings were measured. The dry sliding wear behavior of the Al2O3-8YSZ coatings with and without Si3N4 additives was studied. Nano-Si3N4 additives and plasma treatment can improve the morphologies of the coatings by prohibiting the initiation of micro-cracks and reducing the unmelted particles. The hardness and bonding strength of AZSP (Al2O3-18 wt.% 8YSZ-10 wt.% Si3N4-plasma treatment) coating increased by 79.2 and 44% compared to those of AZ (Al2O3-20 wt.% 8YSZ) coating. The porosity of AZSP coating decreased by 85.4% compared to that of AZ coating. The wear test results showed that the addition of nano-Si3N4 and plasma treatment could improve the wear resistance of Al2O3-8YSZ coatings.  相似文献

The thermodynamic database of the ZrO2-Gd2O3-Y2O3-Al2O3 system is up-dated taking into account new data on lattice stabilities of ZrO2, Gd2O3 and Y2O3 and heat capacity measurements for the monoclinic phase Gd4Al2O9 and phase with garnet structure Gd3Al5O12. New data for the heat capacities of Gd2Zr2O7 (pyrochlore) and GdAlO3 (perovskite) as well as on the enthalpy of formation of fluorite solid solutions (Zr1−x Gd x )O2−x/2 were found to be in good agreement with calculated results. In comparison with the previous assessment, taking into account new experimental data resulted in a change of the melting character of the Gd4Al2O9 phase from a peritectic one to a congruent one in the Gd2O3-Al2O3 system. Correspondently, in the ternary system ZrO2-Gd2O3-Al2O3, the melting character of the three-phase assemblage Gd2O3 (B), Gd4Al2O9 and GdAlO3 changed from eutectic to transition type U. The T 0-lines for T/M and F/T diffusionless transformations and driving force of partitioning to equilibrium assemblage T + F were calculated in the ZrO2-Gd2O3-Y2O3 system.  相似文献

Aerosol deposition method is a technique to form dense films by impacting solid particles on a substrate at room temperature. To clarify the bonding mechanism between AD films and substrates, TEM observation and electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) analysis of the interface between Al2O3 AD films and Cu substrates were conducted. The Al2O3 film was directly adhered to the Cu substrate without any void or crack. The film was composed of randomly oriented α-Al2O3 crystal grains of about 10-20 nm large. At the Al2O3/Cu interface, the lattice fringes of the film were recognized, and no interfacial layer with nanometer-order thickness could be found. EELS spectra near O-K edge obtained at the interface had the pre-peak feature at around 528 eV. According to previously reported experiments and theoretical calculations, this suggests interactions between Cu and O in Al2O3 at the interface. It is inferred that not only the anchoring effect but also the ionic bonding and covalent bonding that originates from the Cu-O interactions contribute to the bonding between Al2O3 AD films and Cu substrates.  相似文献

LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 cathode material was surface-treated to improve its electrochemical performance. Al2O3 nanoparticles were coated onto the surface of LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 powder using a sol-gel method. The as-prepared Al2O3 nano-particle was identified as the cubic structure of Al2O3. XRD showed that the LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 structure was not affected by the Al2O3 coating. With a coating of 3 wt.% Al2O3 on LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2, the cyclic-life performance and rate capability were improved. However, heavier coatings (5 wt.%) on LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 resulted in a considerable decrease of the discharge capacity and rate capability. The thermal stability of LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 materials was greatly improved by the 3 wt.% Al2O3 coating.  相似文献
