VIDEO CODING SCHEME FOR ATM NETWORKS 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A new variable bit rate layered coding scheme based on subband coding is given in this paper. It can make full use of the merits of ATM transmission, as well as compensation for the quality degradation caused by cell loss, which is an inherent problem of ATM networks, and thus a stable, high quality video transmission is achieved. This paper presents the coding scheme, cell construction and simulation results. 相似文献

An experimental comparison of video protection methods targeted for wireless networks is presented. Basic methods are the data partitioning, reversible variable length coding, and macroblock row interleaving as well as macroblock scattering for packet loss protection. An implementation is described, in which scalable video is protected unequally with forward error correcting codes and retransmissions. Comparisons are performed for simulated wideband code division multiple access channel, and measurements are carried out with wireless local area network, Bluetooth as well as with GSM high speed circuit switched data. For the measurements, point-to-point connections are used. The achieved video quality is examined in our real-time wireless video demonstrator. The performance is measured with peak-signal-to-noise-ratio of received video, data overhead, communication delay, number of lost video frames, and decoding frame rate. Results show that the quality of decoded video can be improved by 1 dB with transparent connections compared to connections designed for general packet data. As a conclusion, a video coding subsystem must have access to the error control in a wireless link for the best quality in varying conditions. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a two-stage forward error correction (FEC) scheme with an enhanced link-layer protocol especially for multimedia data transmission over wireless LANs. At the application layer, packet-level FEC (stage-one) is added across packets to correct packet losses due to congestion and route disruption. Bit-level FEC (stage-two) is then added to both application packets and stage-one FEC packets to recover bit errors from the link layer. Then at the link layer, header-CRC/FEC is used to enhance protection and to cooperate with the two-stage FEC scheme. The proposed scheme thus provides joint protection across the protocol stack. We explore both its bandwidth efficiency and video performance for the highly efficient and scalable MC-EZBC video codec using the network simulator ns-2. Our results show that the proposed scheme can effectively increase application-layer throughput, reduce both end-to-end transmission delay and application bandwidth fluctuation, and significantly improve video performance. 相似文献

The SSIM-based rate-distortion optimization (RDO) has been verified to be an effective tool for H.264/AVC to promote the perceptual video coding performance. However, the current SSIM-based RDO is not efficient for improving the perceptual quality of the video streaming application over the error-prone network, because it does not consider the transmission induced distortion in the encoding process. In this paper, a SSIM-based error-resilient RDO scheme for H.264/AVC is proposed to improve the wireless video streaming performance. Firstly, with the help of the SSE-based RDO, we present a low-complexity Lagrange multiplier decision method for the SSIM-based RDO video coding in the error-free environment. Then, the SSIM-based decoding distortion of the user end is estimated at the encoder and is correspondingly introduced into the RDO to involve the transmission induced distortion into the encoding process. Further, the Lagrange multiplier is theoretically derived to optimize the encoding mode selection in the error-resilient RDO process. Experimental results show that the proposed SSIM-based error-resilient RDO can obtain superior perceptual video quality (more structural information) to the traditional SSE-based error-resilient RDO for wireless video streaming at the same bit rate condition. 相似文献

This paper proposes a hybrid ARQ error control scheme based on the concatenation of a Reed-Solomon (RS) code and a rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code for low-bit-rate video transmission over wireless channels. The concatenated hybrid ARQ scheme we propose combines the advantages of both type-I and type-II hybrid ARQ schemes. Certain error correction capability is provided in each (re)transmitted packet, and the information can be recovered from each transmission or retransmission alone if the errors are within the error correction capability (similar to type-I hybrid ARQ). The retransmitted packet contains redundancy bits which, when combined with the previous transmission, result in a more powerful RS/convolutional concatenated code to recover information if error correction fails for the individual transmissions (similar to type-II hybrid ARQ). Bit-error rate (BER) or signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a radio channel changes over time due to mobile movement and fading. The channel quality at any instant depends on the previous channel conditions. For the accurate analysis of the performance of the hybrid ARQ scheme, we use a multistate Markov chain (MSMC) to model the radio channel at the data packet level. We propose a method to partition the range of the received SNR into a set of states for constructing the model so that the difference between the error rate of the real radio channel and that of the MSMC model is minimized. Based on the model, we analyze the performance of the concatenated hybrid ARQ scheme. The results give valuable insight into the effects of the error protection capability in each packet, the mobile speed, and the number of retransmissions. Finally, the transmission of H.263 coded video over a wireless channel with error protection provided by the concatenated hybrid ARQ scheme is studied by means of simulations 相似文献

In some image/video applications, the variable bit rate image/video bitstream will be transmitted over a constant bit rate transmission channel, in which a channel buffer is employed. In this study, a new rate control scheme for H.263 video transmission is proposed. Three proposed techniques include: preprocessing the INTRA coded macroblock (MB) incorporated the just-noticeable-distortion (JND) concept, constructing a bit estimation model in the frequency domain (instead of the bit estimation model in the spatial domain employed in Test Model Near-term version 11 (TMN11)), and adjusting quantization parameter (QP) for each MB by a Lagrangian optimization strategy. In the proposed approach, the target number of bits for a video frame is first obtained by using a simple rate control procedure for the frame layer. The proposed JND preprocessing is applied on all the INTRA coded MBs so that the number of coded bits for a scene changed frame will decrease, without any perceptual loss. Within the MB layer, instead of the bit estimation model in the spatial domain employed in TMN11, a bit estimation model in the frequency domain, directly depending on discrete cosine transform coefficients, is proposed. Then the Lagrange multiplier is used to determine the optimal QP for each MB. The resulting QP and number of coded bits of the current MB are fed backward to update the parameters of the bit estimation model.Based on the simulation results obtained in this study, the proposed approach can meet the target bit rate more accurately, keep a lower channel buffer fullness (delay), and have a larger average frame rate than TMN11, whereas the peak signal-to-noise ratio value and the processing time of the proposed approach are “approximately” as good as that of TMN11. 相似文献
