Spectrum conservation in the Land Mobile Radio Services

This article summarizes the ideas that are being actively discussed for use in mobile radio and, in particular, how they apply to the new 900-MHz region assigned to the Land Mobile Radio Services category. Over the next decade some of these methods will prove out and others will probably fall by the wayside. It is clear, however, that some new techniques will be necessary if mobile radio is to continue its growth.     

Resource Management Strategies for the Mobile Web

The success of the Mobile Web is driven by the combination of novel Web-based services with the diffusion of advanced mobile devices that require personalization, location-awareness and content adaptation. The evolutionary trend of the Mobile Web workload places unprecedented strains on the server infrastructure of the content provider at the level of computational and storage capacity, to the extent that the technological improvements at the server and client level may be insufficient to face some resource requirements of the future Mobile Web scenario. This paper presents a twofold contribution. We identify some performance bottlenecks that can limit the performance of future Mobile Web, and we propose and evaluate novel resource management strategies. They aim to address computational requirements through a pre-adaptation of the most popular resources even in the presence of irregular access patterns and short resource lifespan that will characterize the future Mobile Web. We investigate a large space of alternative workload scenarios. Our analysis allows to identify when the proposed resource management strategies are able to satisfy the computational requirements of future Mobile Web, and even some conditions where further research is necessary.     

Advanced base station technologies for UTRAN

To achieve high capacity and to support high-data-rate services in the terrestrial access network (UTRAN) of the third generation Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), it is essential to employ some advanced transceiver techniques at the base stations. Three such techniques are presented: adaptive antennas, multistage parallel interference cancellers and a new hybrid scheme. The operation principles and some simulation results of the techniques are given and some challenging implementation issues are discussed

Mobility management in current and future communications networks

This article describes current and proposed protocols for mobility management for public land mobile networks (PLMNs), Mobile IP, wireless ATM, and satellite networks. The integration of these networks is discussed in the context of the next evolutionary step of wireless communications networks. First, a review is provided of location management algorithms for PCS implemented over a PLMN. The latest protocol changes for location registration and handoff are investigated for Mobile IP, followed by a discussion of proposed protocols for wireless ATM and satellite networks. Finally, an outline of open problems to be addressed by the next generation of wireless network service is discussed     

WAP业务反向订购监测系统的设计与实现

随着中国移动网络IP化、终端智能化以及数据业务的逐步开展,移动业务通过IP承载方式实现了降本增效,提高了业务灵活性,同时,全IP网络也面临着越来越多的业务层面的安全威胁。其中,不法SP利用MISC业务订购流程漏洞通过WAP网关反向用户订购的攻击,不仅给中国移动的用户带来了较大的经济损失,同时严重损害了中国移动的品牌。针对中国移动现网上出现的恶意订购的投诉,需要设计专用的恶意订购检测系统进行恶意订购流量的监测,并及时发现针对WAP系统的攻击,从而定位攻击的来源,发现攻击路径。     

Design of small and broad-band internal antennas for IMT-2000mobile handsets

The objective of this paper is to design some small broad-band internal antennas for third-generation International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) mobile handsets. By introducing substrates of low dielectric constants and electromagnetically coupling two shorted microstrip patch elements, of either rectangular or semidisc shape, both compactness and broad bandwidth can be achieved. These novel internal antennas for IMT-2000 mobile handsets incorporate only one single probe feed in a driven patch element, white the broad-band feature is obtained by realizing dual-frequency operation. The typical impedance behavior and far-field radiation pattern characteristics of eight different antenna configurations are discussed theoretically and experimentally
