Mullite coating, SiC whiskers toughened mullite coating (SiCw-mullite), and cristobalite aluminum phosphate (c-AlPO4) particle modified SiCw-mullite coating (c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite) were prepared on SiC coated C/SiC composites using a novel sol-gel method combined with air spraying. Results show that molten SiO2 formed by the oxidation of SiC whiskers and molten c-AlPO4 improved the bonding strength between mullite outer coating and SiC–C/SiC composites due to their high-temperature bonding properties. The bonding strength between mullite, SiCw-mullite, c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite outer coatings and SiC–C/SiC composites were 2.41, 4.31, and 7.38 MPa, respectively. After 48 thermal cycles between 1773 K and room temperature, the weight loss of mullite/SiC coating coated C/SiC composites was up to 11.61%, while the weight losses of SiCw-mullite/SiC and c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite/SiC coatings coated C/SiC composites were reduced to 7.40% and 5.12%, respectively. The addition of appropriate SiC whiskers can considerably improve the thermal shock resistance of mullite coating owing to their excellent mechanical properties at high temperature. In addition, c-AlPO4 particles can further improve the thermal shock resistance of SiCw-mullite coating due to their high-temperature bonding and sealing properties. No obvious micro-pores and cracks were observed on the surface of c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coating after 48 thermal cycles due to timely healing effect by formation of secondary mullite.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites at high temperature, a SiC nanowire-toughened MoSi2-WSi2-SiC-Si multiphase coating was prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and pack cementation. The microstructure, mechanical properties and oxidation resistance of the coating were investigated. After the introduction of SiC nanowires, the elastic modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness of the MoSi2-WSi2-SiC-Si coating were increased by 25.48%, 4.09% and 45.03%, respectively. The weight loss of the coated sample with SiC nanowires was deceased from 4.83–2.08% after thermal shock between 1773 K and room temperature for 30 cycles and the weight loss is only 3.24% after isothermal oxidation at 1773 K in air for 82 h. The good oxidation resistance of the coating is mainly attributed to that SiC nanowires can effectively inhibit the propagation of cracks in the coating by the toughening mechanisms including bridging and pull-out.  相似文献

A layered filler consisting of Ti3SiC2-SiC whiskers and TiC transition layer was used to join SiCf/SiC. The effects of SiCw reinforcement in Ti3SiC2 filler were examined after joining at 1400 or 1500 °C in terms of the microstructural evolution, joining strength, and oxidation/chemical resistances. The TiC transition layer formed by an in-situ reaction of Ti coating resulted in a decrease in thermal expansion mismatch between SiCf/SiC and Ti3SiC2, revealing a sound joint without cracks formation. However, SiCf/SiC joint without TiC layer showed formation of cracks and low joining strength. The incorporation of SiCw in Ti3SiC2 filler showed an increase in joining strength, oxidation, and chemical etching resistance due to the strengthening effect. The Ti3SiC2 filler containing 10 wt.% SiCw along with the formation of TiC was the optimal condition for joining of SiCf/SiC at 1400 °C, showing the highest joining strength of 198 MPa as well as improved oxidation and chemical resistance.  相似文献

Effects of SiC whiskers (SiCw) on the mechanical properties of composites largely depend on their thermal stability at high temperature. In this study, pure SiCw and Ti3SiC2 coated SiCw were thermal treated at 1600–1800°C for 1 h. Their phase assemblage, morphology, and structural evolution were investigated. Oxygen partial pressures in the graphite furnace resulted in the breakdown of SiCw into particles at 1600°C, and the degradation became more pronounced with temperature increasing. The thermal stability of SiC whiskers at 1600–1700°C was significantly improved by a thin Ti3SiC2 coating on them, as both thermodynamic calculations and experimental observations suggest Ti3SiC2 coating could be preferentially oxidized/decomposed, prior to the active oxidation of SiC. At 1800°C, the protective role of the coating on the whiskers became weakened. SiC was converted into gaseous SiO and CO, with the remaining of interconnected TiC micro-rods and amorphous carbon.  相似文献

The gradient HfB2 modified SiC coating was prepared on the surface of SiC-coated C/C composites by in-situ synthesis. Anti-oxidation behaviors of the coated C/C samples at 1773, 1873 and 1973?K were investigated. The results show that the gradient HfB2 modified SiC coatings possess excellent oxidation resistance, which can protect C/C substrates from oxidation for 800, 305 and 100?h at 1773, 1873 and 1973?K, respectively. In addition, with the oxidation temperature increasing, the evaporation of the Hf-Si-O glass layer and the active oxidation of SiC were accelerated, which is the reason for the worst oxidation resistance of the sample at 1973?K among the three temperatures.  相似文献

SiC and SiCw/SiC coatings were prepared on two-dimensional carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide ceramic matrix composites (2D C/SiC), and strengthening/toughening of the composite by the coatings was investigated. After coating, the density of the C/SiC composites was increased effectively and the mechanical properties were improved significantly. Compared with SiC coating, SiCw/SiC coating showed the more significant effect on strength/toughness of the composites. Coatings had two effects: surface strengthening and matrix strengthening. The latter was the dominant effect. The surface strengthening can increase the crack initiation stress, while the matrix strengthening can enhance the crack propagation resistance. The former effect increased the strength and the latter effect increased the toughness.  相似文献

To protect the carbon/carbon (C/C) composites from oxidation, an outer ultra‐high‐temperature ceramics (UHTCs) HfB2‐SiC coating was prepared on SiC‐coated C/C composites by in situ reaction method. The outer HfB2‐SiC coating consists of HfB2 and SiC, which are synchronously obtained. During the heat treatment process, the formed fluid silicon melt is responsible for the preparation of the outer HfB2‐SiC coating. The HfB2‐SiC/SiC coating could protect the C/C from oxidation for 265 h with only 0.41 × 10?2 g/cm2 weight loss at 1773 K in air. During the oxidation process, SiO2 glass and HfO2 are generated. SiO2 glass has a self‐sealing ability, which can cover the defects in the coating, thus blocking the penetration of oxygen and providing an effective protection for the C/C substrate. In addition, SiO2 glass can react with the formed HfO2, thus forming the HfSiO4 phase. Owing to the “pinning effect” of HfSiO4 phase, crack deflecting and crack termination are occurred, which will prevent the spread of cracks and effectively improve the oxidation resistance of the coating.  相似文献

A novel cristobalite aluminum phosphate particle (c-AlPO4) modified SiC whisker toughened mullite coating (c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite) was prepared on SiC coated carbon fiber reinforced SiC composites (C/SiC) by a new sol-gel method combined with air spraying to improve the oxidation resistance of SiCw-mullite coating. Results show that c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coatings with 10 and 20 wt.% of c-AlPO4 exhibited obviously improved oxidation resistance at 1773 K in ambient air for 100 h than SiCw-mullite coating. Moreover, the oxidation resistance of c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coatings were rapidly declined when the c-AlPO4 in c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coating were set to 30 and 40 wt.%. The c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coating with 20 wt.% of c-AlPO4 showed most pronounced oxidation resistance, the weight loss rate after the oxidation in ambient air for 210 h was merely 3.00 × 10?5 g·cm?2 h?1. The failure of c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coating with 20 wt.% of c-AlPO4 was due to the generation of penetrative micro-cracks and micro-holes in the coating, which cannot be self-healed by the silicate glass layer after long time oxidation at 1773 K.  相似文献

To investigate the silicon/graphite ratio and temperature on preparation and properties of ZrB2–SiC coatings, ZrB2, silicon, and graphite powders were used as pack powders to prepare ZrB2–SiC coatings on SiC coated graphite samples at different temperatures by pack cementation method. The composition, microstructure, thermal shock, and oxidation resistance of these coatings were characterized and assessed. High silicon/graphite ratio (in this case, 2) did not guarantee higher coating density, instead could be harmful to coating formation and led to the lump of pack powders, especially at temperatures of 2100 and 2200 °C. But residual silicon in the coating is beneficial for high density and oxidation protection ability. The SiC/ZrB2–SiC (ZS50-2) coating prepared at 2000 °C showed excellent oxidation protective ability, owing to the residual silicon in the coating and dense coating structure. The weight loss of ZS50-2 after 15 thermal shocks between 1500 °C and room temperature, and oxidation for 19 h at 1500 °C are 6.5% and 2.9%, respectively.  相似文献

As-received and pre-coated SiC whiskers (SiCw)/SiC ceramics were prepared by phenolic resin molding and reaction sintering at 1650 °C. The influence of SiCw on the mechanical behaviors and morphology of the toughened reaction-bonded silicon carbide (RBSC) ceramics was evaluated. The fracture toughness of the composites reinforced with pre-coated SiCw reached a peak value of 5.6 MPa m1/2 at 15 wt% whiskers, which is higher than that of the RBSC with as-received SiCw (fracture toughness of 3.4 MPa m1/2). The surface of the whiskers was pre-coated with phenolic resin, which could form a SiC coating in situ after carbonization and reactive infiltration sintering. The coating not only protected the SiC whiskers from degradation but also provided moderate interfacial bonding, which is beneficial for whisker pull-out, whisker bridging and crack deflection.  相似文献

Nano-SiC (SiCn) coating was deposited on SiC pre-coated C/C composites by a hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition. The phase compositions, surface and cross-section microstructures, and anti-oxidation properties of the multilayer coatings were investigated. Results show that hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition is an effective route to prepare smooth and homogeneous SiCn coating on SiC-C/C composites. The as-prepared SiCn/SiC multilayer coatings can effectively protect C/C composites from oxidation in air at 1773 K for 202 h with a weight loss of 0.79% and at 1873 K for 64 h with a weight loss of 1.3%.  相似文献

SiCf/SiC ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are being widely used in the hot-sections of gas-turbines, especially for aerospace applications. These CMCs are subjected to surface recession if exposed to heat-corrosion. In this research, an alternative environmental barrier coating (EBC) is introduced to protect the SiCf/SiC CMC from high temperature degradation that is, Al film was deposited on the surface of SiCf/SiC CMC followed by heat-treatment in a vacuum. After that, a dense Al2O3 overlay was in-situ synthesized on the surface of CMC, and in this process the microstructure evolution of SiCf/SiC CMC was analyzed. The oxidation and thermal shock resistance were characterized, showing that the Al-modified SiCf/SiC CMC has a better oxidation resistance, because the dense Al2O3 overlay can hinder oxygen diffusion from environment. What is more, the water-quenching testes show that the Al-modified SiCf/SiC CMC has a good spallation resistance.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of SiC composites at high temperature, the feasibility of using Ti3SiC2 coated via electrophoretic deposition (EPD) as a SiC fiber reinforced SiC composite interphase material was studied. Through fiber pullout, Ti3SiC2, due to its lamellar structure, has the possibility of improving the fracture toughness of SiCf/SiC composites. In this study, Ti3SiC2 coating was produced by EPD on SiC fiber; using Ti3SiC2‐coated SiC fabric, SiCf/SiC composite was fabricated by hot pressing. Platelet Ti3SiC2 powder pulverized into nanoparticles through high‐energy wet ball milling was uniformly coated on the SiC fiber in a direction in which the basal plane of the particles was parallel to the fiber. In a 3‐point bending test of the SiCf/SiC composite using Ti3SiC2‐coated SiC fabric, the SiCf/SiC composite exhibited brittle fracture behavior, but an abrupt slope change in the strength‐displacement curve was observed during loading due to the Ti3SiC2 interphase. On the fracture surface, delamination between each layer of SiC fabric was observed.  相似文献

The mullite and ytterbium disilicate (β-Yb2Si2O7) powders as starting materials for the Yb2Si2O7/mullite/SiC tri-layer coating are synthesized by a sol–gel method. The effect of SiC whiskers on the anti-oxidation properties of Yb2Si2O7/mullite/SiC tri-layer coating for C/SiC composites in the air environment is deeply studied. Results show that the formation temperature and complete transition temperature of mullite were 800–1000 and 1300°C, respectively. Yb2SiO5, α-Yb2Si2O7, and β-Yb2Si2O7 were gradually formed between 800 and 1000°C, and Yb2SiO5 and α-Yb2Si2O7 were completely transformed into β-Yb2Si2O7 at a temperature above 1200°C. The weight loss of Yb2Si2O7/(SiCw–mullite)/SiC tri-layer coating coated specimens was 0.15 × 10−3 g cm−2 after 200 h oxidation at 1400°C, which is lower than that of Yb2Si2O7/mullite/SiC tri-layer coating (2.84 × 10−3 g cm−2). The SiC whiskers in mullite middle coating can not only alleviate the coefficient of thermal expansion difference between mullite middle coating and β-Yb2Si2O7 outer coating, but also improve the self-healing performance of the mullite middle coating owing to the self-healing aluminosilicate glass phase formed by the reaction between SiO2 (oxidation of SiC whiskers) and mullite particles.  相似文献

CNT-PyC-SiC/SiC double-layer coatings were prepared by growth of CNTs on C/C followed by pyrolytic carbon deposition and SiC deposition. The microstructure and the oxidation behavior of the coatings were investigated. With increasing PyC amount in the coating, the coating showed fewer cracks and a higher oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. CNT-PyC played a role in improving the bonding strength between C/C and coatings, alleviating stress in SiC coating and decreasing the cracks.  相似文献

SiCw/3D-SiC composites were fabricated by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) of the 3D SiC lattices, which were prepared via direct ink writing of polycarbosilane-based suspensions. Microstructure, composition and tensile strength of the composites were investigated. Curing and pyrolysis temperature greatly affected the shrinkage, weight loss, density and composition of the 3D SiC. Although sound structure with spanning feature was achieved, cracks and pores in 3D SiC were formed during the pyrolysis owing to the large shrinkage. CVI process decreased the porosity and led to fully dense surface of the SiCw/3D-SiC composites. After 60h of CVI, short β-SiC fibres or long SiC whiskers were deposited in the structural spacing of 3D lattices or spherical pores inside the filaments, respectively. The tensile strength of the composites by CVI increased from 3.3 MPa to 15.7 MPa (20 h) and 47.3 MPa (60 h), due to the high strength of dense CVI layers and in-situ formed SiC whiskers in pores. This work showed a way to strengthen the 3D SiC with in-situ formed whiskers via the polymer precursor routes.  相似文献

To improve oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a multiphase double-layer ZrB2-CrSi2-SiC-Si/SiC coating was prepared on the surface of C/C composites by pack cementation. Thermogravimetry analysis showed that the as-prepared coating could provide effective oxidative protection for C/C composites from room temperature to 1490 °C. After thermal cycling between 1500 °C and room temperature, the fracture behaviors of the as-prepared specimens changed and their residual flexural strengths decreased as thermal cycles increased. The specimen after 20 thermal cycles presented pseudo-plastic fracture characteristics and relatively high residual flexural strength (83.1%), while the specimen after 30 thermal cycles failed catastrophically without fiber pullout due to the severe oxidation damage of C/C substrate especially the brittleness of the reinforcement fibers.  相似文献

A dense SiC coating toughened by SiC nanowires was prepared on carbon/carbon (C/C) composites using a two-step technique of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to protect them against oxidation. The morphologies and crystalline structures of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. SiC nanowires played a role in decreasing the size of the cracks and improving the thermal shock resistance of the coating. The result of thermal shock between 1773 K and room temperature for 21 times indicates that, compared with the SiC coating without SiC nanowires, the average size of the cracks in the SiC coating toughened with SiC nanowires reduced from 5 ± 0.5 to 3 ± 0.5 μm. The weight loss of the SiC coated C/C composites decreased from 9.32 to 4.45% by the introduction of SiC nanowires.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a dense HfC nanowire-toughened Si-Mo-Cr/SiC multilayer coating was prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and pack cementation. The microstructure, thermal shock and isothermal oxidation resistance of the coating were investigated. HfC nanowires could improve the toughness of the coating and suppress the coating cracking. After incorporating HfC nanowires in the coating, both of the thermal shock and isothermal oxidation resistance of the coating were obviously improved. The multilayer coating with HfC nanowires could effectively protect C/C composites at 1773 K for 270 h, whose weight loss is only 0.19%. The good oxidation resistance is mainly attributed to the formation of a compound glass layer containing SiO2 and Cr2O3.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistances of SiC coated C/C composites by a pack cementation (PC) method at high temperature and alleviate the siliconization erosion of molten silicon on C/C substrate during the preparation of SiC coating, a SiO2-SiC reticulated layer with SiC nanowires was pre-prepared on C/C composites through combined slurry painting and thermal treatment before the fabrication of SiC coating. The presence of porous SiO2-SiC layer with SiC nanowires was beneficial to fabricate a compact and homogeneous SiC coating resulting from synergistic effect of further reaction between SiO2 and pack powders and the reinforcement of SiC nanowires. Therefore, the results of thermal shock and isothermal oxidation tests showed that the mass loss of modified SiC coating was only 0.02 % after suffering 50-time thermal cycles between room temperature and 1773 K and decreased from 5.95 % to 1.08 % after static oxidation for 49.5 h in air at 1773 K. Moreover, due to the blocking effect of SiO2-SiC reticulated layer on siliconization erosion during PC, the flexural strength of SiC coated C/C composites with SiO2-SiC reticulated layer increased by 64.8 % compared with the untreated specimen.  相似文献
