Neuropsychiatric aspects of cytokines research: an overview

Cytokines are a group of proteins primarily synthesized by various immune cells. They have multiple functions within the immune system and have been implicated in a number of disease states. There is growing evidence that some cytokines are also synthesized in the central nervous system. Taking into consideration that some cytokines are also capable of inducing behavioral effects, it has been suggested that cytokines may play a role in some psychiatric and neurologic disorders.

Anxiety, conflict, and resistance in learning an integrative perspective on psychotherapy.

Learning to do psychotherapy is emotionally difficult as well as cognitively challenging. This article addresses some of the intrapsychic conflicts with which beginning therapists are faced and points out some of the ways that novices cope by identifying with psychotherapeutic schools and "heroes." Several problems about strain calculation and analysis and correction of related deviation

There exists many kinds of calculation models of plane and spherical strain fields, but the results of these models are different. The representative models was analyzed, and got some useful conclusions, in which some models are unbiased, some have deviations that can be corrected, some can only be used to compute strain in a uniform medium and can not be extended, and some can be used in the calculation and analysis of continuous strain field as well. Meanwhile, the correction relationship for spherical difference movement (displacement) computed from strain results was given, and the meaning of the non -differential term in spherical strain model was demonstrated.     

The gender reality hypothesis.

Comments on the article by J. S. Hyde (see record 2005-11115-001), in which Hyde reviewed meta-analytic evidence on gender differences and concluded that most psychological gender differences are in the close-to-zero or small range. The current author notes some omissions from Hyde's review, including the findings through other research large gender differences are reflected in some kinds of interests and occupational preferences, in males' and females placement on the people-things dimension of interests, and in many kinds of mental illness and behavior problems. The current author's position is that that many psychological gender differences are small-to-nonexistent, some are moderate, and some are large. The task that confronts gender researchers is to explain the complex profile of psychological gender differences and to untangle the myriad social and biological factors that generate both gender differences and gender similarities.
