In made-to-order (MTO) manufacturing enterprises (ME), product architectures are usually modularised and components standardised. Product configuration is a key technology for order realisation in MTO–ME and is a typical knowledge-based application. Through a configuration process, product modules or components are selected and assembled according to customer requirements. Product configuration relates to a great deal of knowledge that represents complexity relations among components or modules, such as configuration rules and assembly constraints. Traditional product modelling techniques are focused mainly on physical product modelling and geometric representation, which makes them insufficient to help in the product configuration process. This paper discusses configuration-oriented product modelling and knowledge management for MTO–ME. A general process of product configuration modelling is proposed. The configuration model represents a product family from which a specific configuration solution or product variant can be derived. Actually, configuration modelling is a process which captures and represents product knowledge. In this paper, product knowledge is organised and managed through a knowledge component (KCOM) that includes configuration rules and constraints. A KCOM-based product knowledge representation model is presented. Finally, a PDM system is extended to support product modelling and knowledge management for MTO configurable products . 相似文献

The demand for the use of 3D CAD data over the Internet environment has been increasing. However, CAD data size has deteriorated
the communication effectiveness of 3D CAD files. Good design methodology of a lightweight CAD file is required for rapid transmission
on the distributed network environment. In this paper, a file translation system is constructed to produce lightweight CAD
files from commercial CAD systems by using InterOp and APIs of the ACIS kernel. Using B-rep models and mesh data extracted
from the CAD native files, the lightweight CAD files with topological information are constructed as binary files. As the
lightweight CAD files retain topological and geometric information, they are applicable to dimensional verification, digital
mock-ups, and visualization of CAD files through a CAD viewer. The effectiveness of the proposed lightweight CAD files is
confirmed through various case studies on the CAD viewer.

In-Ho Song received B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engi-neering from Kunsan National University, and Ph.D. degree in mechanical
engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea in 2007. From 2002 to 2007, he served as a team manager to develop CAD and
PLM systems in CIES in Korea. He is currently a post-doc researcher in the mechanical engineering department in Hanyang University.
As he had developed a lightweight CAD viewing kernel for CAD/CAM systems, he received a New Technology Certificate from Korean
Government (MOCIE) in 2005. He also received several prizes from the Korean Society of CAD/CAM Engineers in 2003 and 2004.
He specializes in geometric modeling, CAD kernels, product design and digital manufacturing systems.
Sung-Chong Chung received the B.S. degree with honors in mechanical engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, and the M.S. and Ph.
D. in mechanical engineering from KAIST, Seoul, Korea in 1979, 1981 and 1987, respectively. Since 1983, he has been a professor
in the School of Mechanical Engineering, Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea. In 2000, he received the outstanding paper award
from the North American Manufacturing Research Institution of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He received the academic
research and software development awards from the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Korean Society of CAD/CAM
Engineers in 2003 and 2004, respectively. His research interests include CAD/CAM, control, mechatronics, manufacturing and

The demand for high-quality and low-cost products with a short development time for the dynamic global market has forced researchers
and industries to focus on various effective product development strategies. Product modelling has been recognised as one
of the key factors in determining the success of various product development strategies and for industrial competitiveness
now and in the future. This paper proposes a methodology that represents multiview integrated product modelling based on the
outcome of a research project on ISO 10303 STEP. The methodology consists of the architecture and information requirements
for an integrated product model and a mapping mechanism for the multiview operations of the model, which support product development
in a concurrent engineering environment. This methodology will facilitate further research in developing sophisticated product
modelling for concurrent product development.

The rapid progress of information and networked technologies, especially Internet/Intranet and Web techniques, is driving a fatal revolution of manufacturing modes/enterprises. Networked manufacturing, as a novel manufacturing mode, has caused profound interest in academic and industrial areas. However, during the transformation from the legacy manufacturing mode to the networked manufacturing mode, there exists a bottleneck, that is, how to integrate the legacy manufacturing resources into networked manufacturing systems. Focusing on this problem, this paper is mainly concerned with developing a novel platform for the configuration and encapsulation of legacy manufacturing resources in networked manufacturing systems. The key point to implement this platform is to adopt a Java solution and mobile agent technologies. With the Java solution, the basic framework for this platform can be realized. Through adopting mobile agent technologies, e.g. Aglets, the encapsulating templates and interfaces for all kinds of manufacturing resources can be developed. Based on the dispatch/return mechanisms of mobile agents, the configuration and encapsulation, information integration and share functions for legacy manufacturing resources can be accomplished well. 相似文献

Aspheric lenses are widely used as important parts of commercial optical products. Owing to their specific functionality, the aspheric surfaces of the lenses are mostly defined by highly complex functions incompatible with commercial manufacturing systems. This reduces lens data interoperability in downstream lens manufacture processes. It is necessary to represent such surfaces in standard formats such as non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS) by approximating them without sacrificing their accuracy. This paper presents a solution for improving product data interoperability in aspheric lens manufacture. According to the surface type, the solution employs appropriate methods for approximating NURBS surfaces to aspheric surfaces of each type within a specified accuracy and correspondingly provides a simple way of interfacing lens data with commercial manufacturing systems. Some experimental results demonstrate its usefulness and quality. 相似文献

Newer materials with excellent properties are of recent interest in the optical, electrical and electronics industries. Finishing of new materials for the required stringent specification stated by those industrial applications emerges the innovation of new techniques and processes in the field of manufacturing. Electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) is one of those new manufacturing techniques which may produce mirror surface finish on various optical and non-optical materials. The easy implementation and the efficiency of the ELID technique have been drawing the attention of the optical manufacturing industries in the recent years. However, further improvements are essential in order to minimize the difficulties experienced during implementation and to extend its suitability for future applications. The authors propose a knowledge based feed-back control system for ELID grinding to eliminate the application difficulties and to improve the effectiveness of the process. This study aims to experiment and to analyze the various features of the developed feed-back control system. The main objective is to examine the effectiveness of the system for precision finishing of optical and non-optical harder materials. The possibilities to reduce the geometrical inaccuracies of the workpiece have been examined in this study. The results show that application of the feed-back control system minimizes the number of correction cycles necessary for precision finishing of hard materials, such as, quartz. 相似文献
