The creation of a finely dispersed lipid emulsion is essential for efficient hydrolysis of dietary triglycerides. The effectiveness of emulsification within the stomach depends upon the shear force generated by gastric motility and the concentration of emulsifiers present in the gastric contents. Other dietary constituents can modify these factors, and previous studies have suggested that the presence of soluble non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) during digestion might increase the average size of intraluminal emulsion droplets. In the present study, we developed a new technique for the isolation and analysis of intraluminal lipid emulsions by optical diffraction analysis. The method was applied to rats fed powdered semipurified diets that were free of all NSP or supplemented with insoluble cellulose, guar gum, or NSP derived from apple, carrot or rolled oats. Cellulose had no significant effect on emulsion size, and there was no evidence that the average sizes of lipid droplets in the gastric fundus or antrum were higher than control values in rats fed diets supplemented with any source of soluble NSP. In the groups fed oats and cooked carrot NSP, the mean droplet diameters approached half the values for diets free of NSP or containing insoluble cellulose. The difference between rats fed NSP from cooked carrot and those fed cellulose was significant in the proximal stomach (P < 0.05), and that between rats fed raw oats and rats fed cellulose was significant in the distal stomach (P < 0.05). Soluble dietary fiber does not inhibit lipid or cholesterol absorption via any inhibition of lipid emulsification.  相似文献

Different soluble dietary fibers known to alter cholesterol metabolism were fed to golden Syrian hamsters, and their specific impact on lipoproteins, biliary bile acid profile, and fecal sterol excretion was evaluated. Semipurified diets containing 20% fat; 0.12% cholesterol; and 8% of psyllium (PSY); high (hePE) and low (lePE) esterified pectin; or high (hvGG) and low (lvGG) viscous guar gum were fed for 5 wk. Compared to control, PSY caused a significant reduction in plasma cholesterol (2.9 +/- 0.5 vs. 5.5 +/- 0.5 mmol/L), whereas hePE, lePE, hvGG, or lvGG had no apparent effect on plasma lipids. Hepatic total and esterified cholesterol were substantially decreased with PSY, pectin and guar gum, whereby PSY produced the most pronounced effect. Distinctive changes existed in the bile acid profile related to the different fibers. In contrast to pectin and guar gum, PSY caused a significant increase in the cholate:chenodeoxycholate and the glycine:taurine conjugation ratio. Pectin and guar gum did not alter daily fecal neutral sterol excretion while PSY caused a 90% increase due to a higher fecal output. Daily fecal bile acid excretion and total fecal bile acid concentration were significantly increased by PSY, whereas hePE, lePE, hvGG, and lvGG revealed no or only minor effects. Taken together, the disparate hypocholesterolemic effects of PSY, pectin, and guar gum on cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in the hamster are possibly related to different physicochemical properties, e.g., viscosity and susceptibility to fermentation, affecting the fiber-mediated action in the intestine.  相似文献

The effects of two highly fermentable dietary fibers (guar gum and pectin) on the type and concentrations of cecal polyamines as affected by the intestinal microflora were studied in groups of germ-free (n = 10/group) and conventional rats (n = 6/group). Both germ-free and conventional rats were randomly assigned to one of three treatments as follows: 1) fiber-free control diet, 2) control diet + 10% guar gum and 3) control diet + 10% pectin. In germ-free rats, guar gum and pectin had no effect on cecal polyamine concentrations. Putrescine was confirmed to be the major endogenous polyamine within the gut lumen. In cecal contents of conventional rats, both guar gum and pectin led to the appearance of cadaverine and to elevated putrescine concentrations in comparison with the fiber-free control diet (1.35 +/- 0.15 and 2.27 +/- 0.32, respectively, vs. 0.20 +/- 0.03 micromol/g dry weight, P < 0.05). The cecal cadaverine concentration was higher in pectin- than in guar-fed rats (8.20 +/- 0.89 vs. 1.92 +/- 0.27 micromol/g dry weight, P < 0.05). Counts of total bacteria, bacteroides, fusobacteria and enterobacteria were higher (P < 0.05) in rats fed guar gum and pectin. Bifidobacteria were found exclusively in guar-fed rats. In vitro studies on selected species representing the numerically dominant population groups of the human gut flora (bacteroides, fusobacteria, anaerobic cocci and bifidobacteria) were examined for their ability to synthesize intracellular polyamines. These experiments demonstrated the ability of bacteroides, fusobacteria and anaerobic cocci to synthesize high amounts of putrescine and spermidine. Calculations based on these results suggest that the intestinal microflora are a major source of polyamines in the contents of the large intestine.  相似文献

The effect of high- (hePE) and low- (lePE) esterification pectin and high- (hvGG) and low-(lvGG) viscosity guar gum on plasma, hepatic and biliary lipids and on prevention of cholesterol gallstones was investigated in male golden Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus). Hamsters were fed on cholesterol-rich (4 g/kg), gallstone-inducing diets for 6 weeks. The diets were supplemented with 80 g hePE, lePE, hvGG or lvGG/kg or 80 g additional cellulose/kg. No significant differences in plasma total cholesterol and triacylglycerol concentrations between hvGG and lvGG and the gallstone-inducing or cellulose-enriched diets were observed. The hePE diet produced a 16% (non-significant) reduction in total plasma cholesterol but significantly decreased the plasma triacylglycerol level by 45%. The lePE diet caused only minor changes in plasma lipids. Hepatic cholesterol concentrations were significantly higher in hamsters fed on hvGG, lvGG, hePE or lePE primarily due to the accumulation of esterified cholesterol. Supersaturated bile samples, with lithogenic indices ranging from 1.6 to 2.0, were determined with all diets. The hePE and lePE diets slightly altered the bile acid profile by increasing glycocholic acid and decreasing taurochenodeoxycholic acid concentrations resulting in a higher cholic:chenodeoxycholic acid ratio. Cholesterol gallstone formation was not substantially inhibited by the two varieties of pectin and guar gum. The hvGG, lvGG, hePE and lePE diets did not alter faecal weight and caused only minor increases in faecal bile acid excretion. In general, the present findings demonstrate that dietary pectins and guar gums had only minor effects on cholesterol metabolism and did not prevent cholesterol gallstone formation in this hamster model. Possible explanations for this lack of a distinct response to pectin and guar gum are discussed.  相似文献

The effects of curdlan and gellan gum on the gastrointestinal function were studied, and the morphological structure of the intestinal mucosal surface was observed by scanning electron microscopy of rats fed curdlan and gellan gum diets for four weeks. The rats fed the curdlan diet showed a significant increase in the weight of the cecum and its contents and a decrease in fecal weight as compared to the rats fed a cellulose diet. On the other hand, the rats fed the gellan gum diet showed a weight loss in cecal contents and weight gain in colonic contents. The transit time of the gastrointestinal tract was extended by curdlan supplementation whereas it was shortened by gellan gum supplementation. The surface structures of the ileal and cecal mucosa were markedly abnormal in the rats fed the curdlan diet: the microvilli were tightly packed and had fallen out at places. In the gellan gum-fed rats, the tops of the ileal and cecal microvilli adhered to one another and were covered with their contents. There was no difference in the surface structure of colonic mucosa among the cellulose, curdlan and gellan gum diet groups.  相似文献

This experiment was designed to evaluate the effects of pectin (PE), guar gum (GG) and psyllium (PSY) intake on VLDL and LDL metabolism in female guinea pigs fed high dietary cholesterol. Guinea pigs were fed a 15 g/100 g fat diet containing 0.25 g/100 g cholesterol with 12.5 g/100 g PE, 12.5 g/100 g GG, 7.5 g/100 g PSY or 12.5 g/100 g cellulose (control diet) for 4 wk. Plasma cholesterol concentrations were 29, 43 and 39% lower in guinea pigs fed PE, GG or PSY, respectively, compared with the control group (P < 0.0001). Plasma apolipoprotein (apo) B concentrations were 16-22% lower in the groups fed soluble fiber compared with the control group (P < 0.01). In contrast, hepatic cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations were not different among the PE, GG, PSY and control groups. No differences in triacylglycerol (TAG) or apo B secretion rates, measured by blocking VLDL catabolism by triton (WR 1339) injection, were observed, whereas plasma LDL apo B fractional catabolic rates (FCR), determined by injection of radiolabeled LDL, were higher in guinea pigs fed GG or PSY than in those from the control group. All sources of dietary soluble fiber reduced LDL apo B flux (P < 0.05). These results suggest that the mechanisms of plasma LDL cholesterol lowering by dietary soluble fiber are distinctive for each fiber source and result in specific alterations in lipoprotein metabolism in female guinea pigs. Differences between male and female guinea pigs in response to these diets are discussed.  相似文献

The attribute(s) of soluble dietary fibers responsible for cholesterol lowering is currently uncertain. A series of experiments were conducted in which viscosity and fermentability was assessed independently for their effect on plasma and liver cholesterol concentration. Hamsters were divided into four dietary groups and fed diets containing 0.12% cholesterol and 5% fiber as high viscosity hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HV-HPMC group), low viscosity hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (LV-HPMC group), high viscosity guar gum (HV-GG group) or low viscosity guar gum (LV-GG group). Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is essentially nonfermentable, whereas guar gum is highly fermentable. Plasma cholesterol concentrations at 3, 6 and 11 wk and liver cholesterol concentrations at 6 and 11 wk were significantly lower in the HV-HPMC group relative to the LV-HPMC group (P < 0.05). Intestinal content viscosities of the LV-HPMC and HV-GG groups were similar; consequently, these two groups were compared to examine the independent effect of fermentation. Plasma and liver cholesterol were significantly lower in the HV-GG group compared with the LV-HPMC group at 6 wk (P < 0.05), but not at 3 or 11 wk. Hepatic sterol synthesis rates were not affected by any of the diets. This study shows that greater viscosity of intestinal contents is strongly associated with cholesterol reduction, but that the contribution of fiber fermentation remains uncertain.  相似文献

Rats were meal-fed semipurified diets containing a low (0.8 g/MJ) and a high (9.6 g/MJ) amount of resistant starch (RS) or various amounts of RS (0.8 to 9.6 g/MJ) and guar gum (0 to 8.8 g/MJ). In one experiment, rats were fed the low and high RS diets in three dietary regimens (ad libitum consuming, 12 h ad libitum/12 h food deprived, and meal fed). Effects of RS and guar gum on serum postprandial and postabsorptive concentrations of total cholesterol (TC) and triacylglycerol (TAG), growth, hydrogen excretion, tissue weights and contents of small intestine and cecum, and pH of cecal contents were investigated. In addition, effects of RS on food intake, de novo hepatic synthesis of fatty acids and neutral sterols, and on lipoprotein lipase activity and weight of epididymal fat pads were investigated. Compared with feeding the low RS diet, the high RS diet reduced the serum TC and TAG concentrations, with these effects observed after 1 and 2 wk of feeding, respectively. The dietary regimen did not influence the effect of RS on the serum TC and TAG concentrations, but it did affect the serum TAG concentration. Resistant starch had no effect on the hepatic synthesis of fatty acids and neutral sterols or on the lipoprotein lipase activity in epididymal fat pads. Guar gum also reduced the serum TC concentration, but it had no effect on serum TAG concentration. The tissue weights and contents of small intestine and cecum as well as hydrogen excretion increased with increasing amounts of dietary RS and guar gum, whereas the pH of cecal contents decreased. No effects of RS on food intake and total body weight gain were found, whereas guar gum decreased weight gain. Feeding the high RS diet also led to a lower weight of the epididymal fat pads. We conclude that dietary RS can reduce serum TC and TAG concentrations and fat accretion.  相似文献

Hamsters were fed high fiber diets containing cellulose, wheat bran or psyllium. The psyllium was incorporated into high fiber, ready-to-eat (RTE) flakes that were used to formulate the test diet. All the diets contained 0.125% cholesterol. The study was terminated after three weeks. Food intake, weight gain and feed efficiency were not significantly different in the three groups. Serum total and HDL cholesterol levels were reduced significantly by the psyllium diet. Serum triglycerides were 26% lower in the hamsters fed psyllium but because of the large variation the difference did not reach statistical significance. Liver total cholesterol and cholesteryl ester levels were significantly lower in the hamsters fed psyllium. Liver triglycerides were highest in the psyllium-fed hamsters and liver phospholipid levels were similar in the three groups. Liver cholesterol and triglyceride levels were higher in hamsters fed cellulose than in those fed wheat bran. Psyllium formulated into an RTE cereal was effective in reducing serum and liver cholesterol levels in hamsters.  相似文献

Na-alginate as well as guar gum inhibit the absorption of a 59Fe-labelled iron dose (360 nmol) from tied-off jejunal segments of either normal or iron-deficient rats. In order to inhibit the absorption of the iron dose by half as compared with normal rats to which ionized iron was administered 1.2--8 mg of guar gum and 8-30 mg Na-alginate was necessary. In iron-deficient rats the highest dose dose of Na-alginate tested, 100 mg, inhibited the absorption of iron by about 20%; the highest dose of guar gum, 30 mg, inhibited the amount of iron absorbed by about 25%. An artificial diet containing 10% of either guar gum and Na-alginate fed for 3 days inhibited the absorption of iron in normal but not in iron-deficient rats. Also, in these experiments guar gum proved to be more effective than Na-alginate.  相似文献

Two mannans (guar gum and konjac mannan) were fed to growing chicks at a level of 2% in a semipurified diet containing 0.5% cholesterol for 4 weeks. The mannans were nearly identical in producing growth depression, pancreatic hypertrophy and reduction in plasma and hepatic cholesterol when compared to controls fed corn starch or the sugars D-galactose or D-mannose. Hepatic triglyceride levels were higher for chicks fed konjac mannan, but no significant differences in fasting plasma glucose were observed. Apparent metabolizable energy levels for the mannan diets were significantly less than those of the other diets. The effects of the mannans in this study were not correlated with viscosity measurements made in vitro.  相似文献

Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 32) were fed diets without fiber (control) or containing 1 or 5% chicory extract or 5% inulin for 4 wk; 0.2% cholesterol was added to all diets. Rats fed chicory extract and inulin diets had significantly higher serum high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and generally lower low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations, thus significantly greater ratios of HDL/LDL cholesterol compared with the controls (P < 0.05). The serum apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A-1 ratio was significantly lower in rats fed diets containing chicory extract or inulin than that in rats fed fiber-free diets, due to significant reductions in apolipoprotein B concentration (P < 0.05). Greater liver lipid and triglyceride concentrations were observed in rats fed chicory extract or inulin diets compared with the controls (P < 0.05). However, liver phospholipid and cholesterol concentrations were not significantly different among groups (P > 0.05). Addition of 5% inulin to the diet resulted in greater cecal weight, whereas both 5% chicory extract and 5% inulin resulted in greater cecal propionic acid concentration compared with the controls (P < 0.05). Rats fed chicory extract and inulin had significantly greater fecal lipid, cholesterol and bile acid excretions than those fed fiber-free diets (P < 0.05). The results of this study suggest that the improved lipid metabolism observed in rats fed chicory extract (mainly inulin component) may be caused by an alteration in the absorption and/or synthesis of cholesterol, which might result from the changes in cecal fermentation, and by an increase in the fecal excretion of lipid, cholesterol and bile acid.  相似文献

The effect of chitin, poly-beta-(1 --> 4)-N-acetyl-glucosamine, and chitosan, a polymer of glucosamine obtained by the deacetylation of chitin, on growth and nutrient digestibility was studied in grass shrimp, Penaeus monodon. Shrimp were fed for 8 wk diets containing no supplement (control) or 2, 5 or 10 g/100 g chitin or chitosan. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of shrimp with a mean initial body weight of 0.45 +/- 0.05 g. Significantly higher body weight gains were observed in shrimp fed the 5% chitin diet than in those fed the 10% chitin or the control diet. The weight gain of shrimp decreased as dietary chitosan supplementation level increased (r = 0. 87, P < 0.05). Feed efficiencies (FE) and protein efficiency ratios (PER) followed the same pattern. Lower protein and lipid digestibilities and lower body protein and lipid contents were observed in shrimp fed all chitosan-containing diets than in controls (P < 0.05). Carbohydrate digestibility was lower in shrimp fed the 10% chitosan diet than in those fed the control diet. Lower protein and lipid digestibilities, body lipid content and blood cholesterol concentration were observed in shrimp fed the 10% chitin diet compared with controls (P < 0.05). Higher weight gains, body lipid contents and blood cholesterol concentrations were observed in shrimp fed the 2 and 5% chitin diets than in those fed the chitosan diets. Shrimp fed the 5% chitin diet had higher protein and lipid digestibilities and higher body protein content than those fed the 5% chitosan diet (P < 0.05). These data suggest that dietary chitin, supplemented at 5%, enhances P. monodon growth, whereas chitosan depresses shrimp growth, regardless of the supplementation level.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine whether the addition of soy protein and guar gum to the American Heart Association (AHA) Step I diet would increase its efficacy compared with the typical "Average American Diet" (AAD) in a non-human primate model. Twenty adult female cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) were fed one of three diets for 6 wk. The AAD contained 36% energy from fat; the standard Step I diet contained 30% energy from fat; and the modified AHA Step I diet contained 30% energy from fat with the addition of soy protein isolate (10% of total energy) and guar gum (5.8 g/d). Plasma samples were collected from food-deprived monkeys at 4, 5 and 6 wk of dietary treatment for analyses of plasma total cholesterol (TC), lipoprotein cholesterol and triacylglycerol (TAG) concentrations. Plasma TC, LDL-C, HDL-C and TAG concentrations were not significantly different in wk 4, 5 and 6 within any of the diet periods; thus the three measurements were averaged. After 6 wk of dietary treatment, monkeys fed the standard Step I diet had lower plasma TC (-19%) (P < 0.05) and LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) (-24%) (P < 0.09) than when they were fed the AAD, with no effect on HDL cholesterol (HDL-C), the lipoprotein cholesterol profile or TAG. Beyond the effect of the standard Step I diet, the modified AHA Step I diet further reduced plasma TC and LDL-C (-24% and -40%) (P < 0. 05) and the TC/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratios (-37% and -52%) (P < 0. 05) with no significant changes in plasma HDL-C or TAG. The primary conclusions of this study are that the efficacy of the AHA Step I cholesterol-lowering diet can be increased with the addition of soy protein and guar gum and provide a more favorable lipoprotein cholesterol profile. Whether the cholesterol-lowering effect is the result of soy protein or guar gum or a synergistic effect of both remains to be determined.  相似文献

The isotopic dilution method, which permits the in vivo measurements of the rates of the processes involved in cholesterol turnover, has been applied to rats fed a commercial stock diet or a basal semipurified diet in which either the nature and proportions of the source of dietary fiber or the salt mixture were changed. The cholesterolemia was about 100 mg/100 g in rats fed agar-agar, cellulose, bran or the stock diet. Pectin addition (5%) lowered significantly the plasma concentration of cholesterol (70 mg/100 g). Changes in the source of dietary fiber or salt mixture have moderate effects on the absorption coefficient of dietary cholesterol (range 58.2%-82%). In comparison to agar-agar, cellulose at 2.3% in the diet significantly lowered this coefficient, but larger amounts of cellulose (6.8% or 12.3%), or pectin (5%) were without effect, while bran addition (10%) tended to slightly decrease cholesterol absorption. Hence, high levels of cellulose in the diet increased the absorption coefficient in comparison to a low cellulose diet. A decrease of this coefficient was also observed when the calcium content of the diet was increased. Cholesterol biosynthesis and fecal excretion were inversely correlated to the absorption coefficient of dietary cholesterol in rats fed all of the semipurified diets indicating, as previously shown, that the intestine was the major source of biosynthesized cholesterol diverted into the plasma. However, feeding a commercial stock diet greatly increased the cholesterogenesis and the fecal elimination of bile acids, suggesting a high hepatic cholesterogenesis.  相似文献

An analysis of viable bacterial populations enumerated on carbohydrate selective media was used to simulate the colonic environment in vitro and determine if differential media could detect significant microbial shifts due to dietary fiber source, dietary fat source, and carcinogen. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were provided with either pectin or cellulose as a fiber source, either corn or fish oil as a source of fatty acids, and injected with either azoxymethane (AOM), a gastrointestinal carcinogen, or saline in a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design. At 6 and 10 mo of age, fresh feces were collected, homogenized in anaerobic buffer and anaerobically plated onto differential media. Diets containing pectin supported more anaerobes at 6 mo of age (P < 0.01) than diets containing cellulose. Rats injected with AOM and consuming either pectin or corn oil supported more anaerobes at 10 mo of age (P < 0.05) than rats injected with saline and consuming the same diets. Rats consuming cellulose and receiving AOM but not expressing tumors possessed larger anaerobic populations at 10 mo of age (P < 0.05) than rats consuming cellulose, injected with AOM and expressing tumors. These effects show that gastrointestinal bacterial populations, as measured by carbohydrate specific media, respond to dietary changes such as dietary fiber source, and thus may play a key role in the etiology of colon cancer.  相似文献

Viscous polysaccharides reduce intestinal absorption of glucose and diminish postprandial hyperglycemia. However, it is unknown whether viscous fiber also inhibits absorption of nutrients under conditions of enteric feeding. Therefore, we measured the absorption rates of nutrients in miniature pigs by perfusing a 150-cm length of jejunum with 8.37 kJ/min of the three following enteral diets: an isoosmotic oligomeric diet (1670 kJ/L), a hyperosmotic oligomeric diet and an isoosmotic polymeric diet (both 3350 kJ/L). The diets were supplemented with guar gum from 0 to 4.4 g/L. With the three guar-free diets, the mean absorption rate of energy was 5.2 +/- 0.32 kJ/min, corresponding to 62% of the energy infused. Absorption rates of carbohydrate, protein, fat and energy linearly declined as concentrations of guar or the logarithm of chyme viscosity increased. Due to modulations in viscosity, the inhibitory effects of guar were significantly different among the three diets. With the isoosmotic and hyperosmotic oligomeric and the polymeric diets, the addition of 1 g guar/L diminished the absorption of energy by 9.7, 6. 6 and 3.7%, respectively. The strong inhibitory effect on nutrient absorption with the isoosmotic oligomeric diet was caused by an increase in chyme viscosity due to water absorption. With the hyperosmotic oligomeric and the polymeric diets, the chyme viscosity and thus inhibitory effects on absorption were diminished by water secretion and the concomitant infusion of pancreatic enzymes. Results indicate that the addition of small amounts of guar gum to enteral diets of high energy density exerts only small effects on absorption of nutrients.  相似文献

Effects of pectins with different degrees of esterification (DE) and molecular weights (MW) on iron bioavailability were investigated in healthy growing rats by following erythrocyte incorporation of a dose of 58Fe. Rats were fed a control diet for 8 d and then deprived of food for 16 h. Two hours after the start of feeding iron-deficient diets, with or without pectin (80 g/kg diet), a dose of FeSO4 rich in 58Fe (60.28%) was intubated into the stomach; rats were then allowed to feed for an additional 4 h before withdrawal of food for 10 h. Rats were then fed iron-adequate diets for 9 d. The pectins differed in DE and MW, respectively, as follows: P-A (73%, 860,000), P-B (75%, 89,000), P-C (22%, 1,260,000) and P-D (24%, 114,000). Rats fed pectin-free diet with free access to food or restricted to the same quantity consumed by a respective pectin group served as controls. Iron absorption was 48% in the control group and 57% in rats fed P-B. Rats fed P-B had higher (P 2 < or = 0.05) serum iron, transferrin saturation, hematocrit and liver and spleen iron than the control group or the group fed P-C. These indices, except for transferrin saturation, were also higher In rats fed P-A and P-D compared with those fed P-C and controls, but to a lesser extent than in rats fed P-B. The data indicate that bioavailability of dietary non-heme iron was enhanced when pectin of low MW and high DE was added to the diet. This improvement was not evident with pectins having high MW and/or low DE.  相似文献

The effects of feeding a diet with 44 per cent or 3 per cent (w/w) fat, supplementary feeding during the suckling period, and reduced litter size, on body weight and on the weight and cellularity of the heart, liver and kidneys were evaluated. Three overfeeding techniques were used: (1) feeding a high fat diet, (2) reducing litter size, (3) force-feeding from 1-24 days. The overfeeding technique which exerted the greatest effect on growth was feeding a high-fat diet. In comparison to OM rats that suckled dams fed the low-fat diet, body weight as well as organ weight, DNA, protein and lipid were significantly elevated in 24-day-old OM rats that suckled dams fed the high-fat diet. In comparison to OM rats not overfed, the organs of the rats fed the high-fat diet contained significantly more cells at both 24 and 105 days, except for the heart which by 105 days contained more protein, but not DNA. Liver weight and growth in S 5B/P1 rats was similar, regardless of dietary manipulation. Compared to S 5B/P1 rats that suckled dams fed the low-fat-diet, kidneys were 12 per cent larger at 24 days and 19 per cent larger at 105 days in rats that suckled dams fed the high-fat diet and were thereafter fed a high-fat diet. Hearts of the latter rats were larger than the former rats at 24 days, but not at 105 days.  相似文献

Methyl esters of dimeric fatty acids were prepared by fractionating a mixture of conjugated linoleic and oleic acids that was heated for 24 hr at 300 C in the absence of air. Rats fed diets containing less than 1% dimers showed no significant difference (P less than 0.05) in the growth rate, feed efficiency, liver:body weight ratio, and lipid:liver weight ratio from those fed normal diets. A lymph cannulation study using 14C labeled dimers showed that ca. 0.4% of the dimers fed were absorbed within 12 hr and were transported as free acids in the lymph. Within a 28 hr period, 2% of the labeled dimers fed by gastric intubation were oxidized to 14CO2, and 1% radioactivity was recovered from the urine. The metabolism of methyl oleate appeared normal for rats prefed diets containing dimers.  相似文献
