A framework for building intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) to teach students the use of various simulation systems used in engineering education is described. Case studies to two widely used simulators in electronics education (LASAR, a digital logic simulator, and SPICE, an integrated circuit simulator) provide the basis of pedagogical methodology for teaching the use of simulators. This methodology is used to develop a tutorial environment which includes: an authoring system that enables an instructor to develop and tailor the course contents; and a course presentation system that communicates this information via a direct manipulation interface to the user. The student perceives the tutorial as a hypertext network which can be freely explored; however, the tutoring system monitors and dynamically reconfigures the accessible information according to the level and attainment of expertise by the student. The environment includes components to monitor and evaluate the performance of the student. This tutorial framework is used to create intelligent tutorial systems for SPICE and LASAR  相似文献

This paper describes an automated system, using the software LabVIEW and an experimental setup including a digital oscilloscope equipped with general purpose interface bus (GPIB) interface, to measure the instantaneous and average power components of generic three-phase electrical systems. The system is being used as an academic laboratory tool for teaching concepts on generic three-phase electrical power systems to third-year electrical engineering students. The method is based on a generalized instantaneous power theory and can be applied to balanced or unbalanced three-phase power systems feeding linear or nonlinear loads. Details of the methodology, comprising acquisition, and signal processing are presented. Examples of three-phase balanced and unbalanced power system measurements are displayed  相似文献

A computer package developed for power system protection design is used to teach protection coordination at City University, London. Examples of package use and experience gained from computer assisted learning in this subject are described. The simulation of protection systems gives students an opportunity to observe the actions of each device after they complete their protection schemes. In order to preserve flexibility within this self-learning environment, an expert system is included in the package. The use of an expert system is to make learning as effective as possible by providing guidance on the teaching material. It plays its role only if it is invoked. In other words, the expert system does not supervise learning, but can provide the necessary guidance if a request is made. If there is any error, the result of the simulation will also show the nature of the problem. The debugging function can help the students to detect the errors they have made and know how the devices work in the power system. The potential of a well-designed computer package is not only to strengthen teaching and learning, but also lead to creative contributions to the educational process. This paper illustrates and evaluates a generic adaptive tutoring environment, structural example-based adaptive tutoring system (SEATS), based on the theory of cognitive knowledge acquisition. The system teaches by presenting side-by-side examples and highlighting their common structural components. This technique assists the process of generalization and reduces mapping by surface features, allowing students to apply their newly gained knowledge to different sets of problems. SEATS also implements adaptive presentation based on a straightforward model of student/user performance. SEATS was evaluated with a recursion tutorial used by 117 students in a 1-hour tutorial session. Results indicate that using adaptation in combination with the structural example-based feature produces an effect on rate and extent of learning significantly greater than when the features are used alone, or when both are absent. The study further points out that future evaluations will have to take students' curiosity into account, since many of them are likely to give at least some incorrect answers on purpose, to test the response of the system. The results indicate that building SEATS with simple adaptive mechanisms is an efficient way of teaching electronically.  相似文献

With the fast development of computer networks, people can access information and communicate with others without being constrained by space and time. Through network communications, people can discuss things with others to solve their problems. Therefore, how to implement distance cooperative computer-assisted learning (CAL) systems on computer networks becomes an interesting and challenging issue. In this paper, the authors present their work of applying a fuzzy expert system to support the tutoring strategies of a distance cooperative CAL environment. They analyze the special needs for developing CALs in the distance cooperative environment, and define a set of parameters, which is concerned with effectiveness of learning through networks. They also model the behaviors of the students on networks through their online operations. A theoretical framework and some methodologies are proposed based upon the concepts and the techniques of fuzzy expert systems to cope with the problems. A fuzzy expert system is then implemented to guide the students during the learning processes and to help the CAL system to present feasible subject materials to the students. By evaluating their approach with a small group of college freshmen, they conclude that this research is worth further studying  相似文献

基于综合设计、类比设计、优化设计三种设计方式构建了电力变压器优化设计系统。分析了三种设计方式的特点和相互间的联系,并以工程数据库系统为支撑,实现了各设计模块之间的数据传递。将专家系统混合推理机制融合到综合设计模块中,并采用改进遗传算法实现了优化设计模块。三种设计方式配合使用,可以灵活、可靠地获得优化设计方案。并基于本文构建的软件系统对一台110kV三绕组电力变压器进行了类比设计、综合设计和优化设计,结果表明了该软件系统的有效性。  相似文献

对于快速发展的地区,不同的预测方法所得的中长期负荷预测结果会相去甚远,某些预测结果甚至是无效且不可信的。所以规划决策支持系统中不仅要有多种方法的预测,还应增加其模拟决策模块。文章提出负荷预测的模拟决策,将改进的模糊互补AHP方法应用于预测模拟决策系统。计及影响电力负荷预测的各相关因素,建立电力负荷预测的多层次、多因素的决策分析结构,利用专家知识,构造具有模糊互补性的个体或群体决策的判断矩阵,并简洁而准确地计算特征向量。进一步处理特征向量作为预测决策权重,获得了满意预测决策。该方法用于规划决策支持系统中的模  相似文献

The power industry is undergoing many new and exciting challenges. It is expected that these challenges will continue to exist and new ones will arise as the systems are pushed for greater efficiencies and economics. Therefore, as the workforce evolves from one generation to the next, it will be of paramount importance to have a continuing flow of competent power engineers available for the industry. However, to accomplish this is no small matter. The power industry must compete for students among declining engineering enrollments and what some students may view as more “glamorous” engineering professions. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the power engineering educators to seek methods of ensuring that the flow of competent power engineers is there to meet the needs of the future power industry. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate an approach taken to start to attract students at the pre-college level (high school) to careers in electric power engineering. This paper summarizes the results of a workshop designed to work with science teachers to help them better understand electricity and magnetism, show them ways of teaching these basic sciences, and relate how these skills are used by practicing electrical power engineers  相似文献
