During the years of oil shortage and rapidly increasing oil prices, the need to decrease dependence on oil-fired utility boilers became an urgent concern. The alternatives were to:
- 1. (1) build new coal-fired stations;
- 2. (2) modify oil-fired boilers to fire pulverized coal;
- 3. (3) modify oil-fired boilers to fire coal slurry;
- 4. (4) modify boilers to fire deeply cleaned, finely pulverized coal; or
- 5. (5) fire coal-derived liquids.

This paper reports the development effort of using coconut shell-based fuel slurries in an oil-fired foundry furnace. Solid fuel fines were dispersed in a liquid medium and the resultant fuel slurry was burnt like a liquid fuel. Light disel oil, furnace oil and water served as the liquid media. The solid fuels burnt were pulverized coal and pulverized coconut shell. The solid fuel was directly mixed with the liquid medium and was burnt in an oil-fired foundry furnace. No chemicals were used for the stabilization of slurries. Pulverized coal was found to settle down and was often blocking the fuel atomizer. But no such problems were encountered when pulverized coconut shell - light diesel oil and pulverized coconut shell-water slurries were burnt. Among the various slurries burnt, the pulverized coconut shell-water slurry was found to be the most appropriate slurry to be used in the oil-fired foundry furnace without any modifications to the existing furnace hardware. 对两种煤代油方式——水煤浆和煤制混合煤气进行了燃料价格、设备投资及运行费用的分析对比。结果表明,两种代油方法均有可观的经济效益,燃料费用可分别节约52.4%和45.2%。如果原燃油工业炉窑由于工艺需要已装有除尘设备而又可用产生的蒸汽做雾化剂时,则水煤浆代油更具有经济优势。 相似文献
