Correlating business process re-engineering with the information systems department

Despite the widespread use of re-engineering to enhance organizational competitiveness, the role of an information systems department in business process re-engineering is not clearly understood. The role of an information systems department in the success of business process re-engineering projects was empirically investigated. Structured interviews with 27 executives were initially conducted to identify critical information systems department roles in business process re-engineering. These roles were then empirically validated using survey research method to determine their extent of impact on business process re-engineering success. The results of hierarchical regression analysis show that support of top information system management, the existence of technology champion, the management of resistance to change, the quality of information system planning, the integration of an information system–business strategy, the sophistication of user's computer skill and the extent of integration of the information architecture are the most critical information systems department roles in business process re-engineering success. Other roles of an information systems department that facilitate business process re-engineering success include the management of transition, the provision of information technology training, the competency of information system staff and the extent of computer use by users. The implications of these findings for information system researchers and practitioners are discussed.

Abstract:

We contribute reflective case studies on development and implementation of common data engineering architectures addressing the engineering and technology management challenge of integrating heterogeneous information systems. In data-rich integration projects, the role of data as a critical resource requires applying managed data engineering addressing the aligned information exchange between systems in support of business/operational processes in organizations and the enterprise. The recommended data engineering architecture comprises standards, methods, and tools that contribute part-solution for process modeling, data resources documentation, metadata modeling, and data modeling. We show how alignment by engineering and project managers ensures efficient and effective solutions.     

浙江省质监信息标准体系建设研究

通过对国内外石油标准体系现状进行分析,确定了石油天然气勘探开发数据标准体系研究技术路线,建立了石油天然气勘探开发数据标准体系结构,并以石油天然气勘探开发元数据标准和石油天然气勘探开发业务分类与编码规则这两项标准为基础,对数据标准和应用标准所包含的数据元元数据、勘探开发业务分类与编码、业务模型、源点信息采集、图形图符、数据交换、图形交换等系列标准进行了阐述。石油天然气勘探开发数据标准体系的建立,为油田企业数据中心建设奠定了基础,为油田勘探开发生产、科研一体化业务协同提供了重要支撑。     

Project planning and risk management as a success factor for IT projects in agricultural schools in Serbia

Enterprises and business systems are introducing modern information and communication technologies into their organizations to improve their business processes and gain a competitive advantage. Theoretical research, as well as research carried out in practice, unambiguously indicate that companies take this step without the necessary professional analysis of business processes and insufficient knowledge of the project management methodology. Also, in this area there is a lack of adequate literature, especially in the field of information technology (IT) project management. This paper provides a new approach for research in the field of project management throughout a studious analysis of risk management in IT projects. To confirm hypotheses, this paper examines and outlines concrete IT management solutions in business systems with emphasis on education organizations, which leads to business improvement and achievement of positive business results.     

基于云计算的印刷企业供应物流信息系统

目的研究基于云计算的中小型印刷企业供应物流管理中的采购管理和库存管理系统,实现按需付费的供应物流管理服务。方法首先采用基于BPMN(业务流程建模与标注)的业务流程和用例图对系统进行分析,构建系统的业务流程和数据流程模型;其次采用类图实现系统的数据库设计,采用标准化的服务语义定义系统的服务接口;最后在本地计算机上开发测试系统,并将系统部署到GAE(Google App Engine)平台上。结果基于云计算的中小型印刷企业供应物流管理系统可满足中小型印刷企业拿来即用、按需付费的低成本信息化需求。结论该系统将供应物流管理系统和云计算技术结合起来,提高了中小型印刷企业的信息化水平,降低了企业信息化的成本。     

A unified product structure management for enterprise business process integration throughout the product lifecycle

Information availability is a key factor for business success and competitive advantage. While created by design engineers, product structure is accessed and referenced by other users involved in product lifecycle from various departments. However, there is a lack of efficient ways of managing product structure information for enterprise business process integration. This study proposes a unified product structure management model to fill in this gap. With this proposed model, the product structure is managed in a unified way and can be accessed by different people with various disciplines in the right formats throughout the entire product lifecycle, including business processes of quotation, sales order processing, design, planning, scheduling, production, and delivery. This research is part of the enterprise business information management system project whose purpose is to streamline the information management for key business processes to integrate multi-disciplines in an enterprise for product development. A prototype system has been implemented to verify the model developed by taking real cases in a mould-manufacturing company. The results show the potential for substantial improvements in industrial competitive advantage.
