Fatty acid composition and moisture and oil content were determined for Montola-2001 and Centennial safflower varieties at
three different harvest dates from flowering to maturity, which were grown as autumn and spring crops in two different locations
in 2001–2002 and 2002–2003. The experiment was carried out using split–split plots in a randomized complete block design with
three replicates. Sowing dates affected oil content and fatty acid compositions significantly (P < 0.01), whereas moisture content in both years was not significantly affected. Moisture content declined 15 days from flowering
period to maturity, while oil content increased. The rate of the palmitic acid formation decreased in both varieties 15 days
from flowering period to maturity, whereas formation rates of the oleic and linoleic acids increased in Montola-2001 and Centennial
varieties, respectively. 相似文献

High-oleic safflower oil was heated at 180°C in atmospheres with four levels of oxygen concentration (2, 4, 10, and 20%) modified
with nitrogen gas, to assess the effects of atmospheric oxygen concentration on the oxidative deterioration of deep-frying
oils. Acid value, carbonyl value, polar materials, linoleic acid, tocopherol contents, and oxidative stability were measured
to evaluate the quality of heated oils. These values were found to be correlated with both heating time and oxygen concentration.
Acid and carbonyl values and polar material content of oils heated at oxygen concentrations of 2 and 4% were lower than those
at 10 or 20%. On the other hand, linoleic acid and tocopherols were hardly reduced in oils after heating for 30 h at 2% O2, whereas they were decomposed according to the oxygen concentration and heating time. Oxidative stability was well maintained
in oils heated at 2 and 4% O2. These results suggest that the oxidative deterioration of heated higholeic safflower oil depends on oxygen concentration. 相似文献

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorious L.) is an oilseed crop that is valued as a source of high quality vegetable oil. The genetic diversity of 16 safflower genotypes originated from different geographical regions of Iran and some with exotic origin were evaluated. Eight different seed quality-related traits including fatty acid composition of seed oil (stearic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid), the contents of, oil, protein, fiber and ash in its seeds, as well as 20 inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) polymorphic primers were used in this study. Analysis of variance showed significant variation in genotypes for the seed quality-related traits. Based on ISSR markers, a total of 204 bands were amplified and 149 bands (about 70%) of these were polymorphic. Cluster analysis based on either biochemical or molecular markers classified the genotypes into four groups, showing some similarities between molecular and biochemical markers for evaluated genotypes. A logical similarity between the genotype clusters based on molecular data with their geographical origins was observed. 相似文献

Safflower oil contains a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids, however, the composition of the oil may be affected by drought stress. This experiment determined the effect of three irrigation regimes (60, 75 and 90% soil moisture depletions of available water) on oil composition of safflower cultivars (Kuseh, PI and IL111). Amounts of oil and oil composition of the seeds were determined by gas chromatography (GC). The oil contents of IL111, PI and Kuseh cultivars were 30.73, 27.63 and 25.25%, respectively. The oil contents, palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acid contents were reduced by about 13, 63, 60, 14 and 10% by drought, respectively. The stearic acid contents of PI, IL111 and Kuseh were reduced by 72, 61 and 37% and palmitic acid contents of the same cultivars were reduced by drought by 65, 53 and 51%, respectively. Whereas, the linoleic acid contents of Kuseh, PI and IL111 were reduced by only 10, 8 and 5% and oleic acid contents of the same cultivars were reduced by only 14, 13 and 14% under the drought stress, respectively. The results showed that although drought stress reduced the amount of oil and oil composition of safflower cultivars, the decrease was due to a dramatic reduction in saturated fatty acids contents. Thus, proper irrigation regimes may enhance safflower oil quality. 相似文献

Effects of microwave heating on the oxidative stability ofd-tocopherols were studied in relation to the production of fatty acids in oils. During microwave heating, the stability of
tocopherols decreased in the orderδ>β>γ>α. This order did not depend on the types of ethyl esters of fatty acids or oils present. But, the shorter the chainlength
and the lower the degree of unsaturation of the fatty acid ethyl esters, the greater was the reduction in amount of individual
tocopherols. A similar tendency was observed when tocopherol-stripped vegetable oils, with equimolar mixtures of tocopherols
added, were treated under the same conditions. The reduction in tocopherols became greater with increasing levels of free
fatty acids. 相似文献

Tocopherols in breeding lines and effects of planting location, fatty acid composition, and temperature during development 总被引:2,自引:4,他引:2

As the use of tocopherols as natural antioxidants increases, it is economically and agronomically important to determine the
range, composition, and factors that affect their levels in oilseed crops, a major commercial source. In this study, tocopherols
were quantified from seeds of wheat, sunflower, canola, and soybean. The breeding lines analyzed possessed a broad range of
economically important phenotypic traits such as disease or herbicide resistance, improved yield and agronomic characteristics,
and altered storage oil fatty acid composition. Complete separation of all four native tocopherols was achieved using normal-phase
high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. Total tocopherol concentration among wheat germ oil samples
ranged from 1947 to 4082 μg g−1. Total tocopherol concentration ranges varied from 534 to 1858 μg g−1 in sunflower, 504 to 687 μg g−1 in canola, and 1205 to 2195 μg g−1 among the soybean oils surveyed. Although the composition of tocopherols varied substantially among crops, composition was
stable within each crop. Total tocopherol concentration and the percentage linolenic acid were correlated positively in soybean
oils with modified and unmodified fatty acid compositions. Tocopherol concentration and degree of unsaturation were not correlated
in sunflower or canola seeds with genetically altered fatty acid composition. These findings suggest that breeding for altered
storage oil fatty acid composition did not negatively impact tocopherol concentrations in sunflower and canola as they apparently
did in soybeans. When 12 soybean breeding lines were grown at each of five locations, significant correlations were observed
among planting location, breeding line, tocopherol concentration, and fatty acid composition. Analysis of seeds that matured
under three different controlled temperature regimes suggests that the relationship between tocopherol concentration level
and unsaturated fatty acids in commodity (not genetically modified for fatty acid composition) oil types is due to temperature
effects on the biosynthesis of both compounds. 相似文献

Phytosterols occur in relatively high concentration in the seeds of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) and in lower concentration in olive (Olea europaea L.) oil. The aim of this research was to investigate some new rapeseed varieties and olive genotypes that are grown in Northwest Turkey and to compare the phytosterol contents of both crops. For rapeseed, the data were collected in the growing seasons 2004–2005 from a field experiment with 19 new rapeseed varieties and three replications. For olives, 21 different varieties were used in the 2004–2005 and 2005–2006 growing seasons. The separation and identification of free phytosterols and the analysis of their contents were successfully achieved using the capillary column‐gas chromatographic method. According to the obtained results, for rapeseed, sitosterol (1.54–2.36 g/kg) was the major component of total phytosterols, followed by campesterol (0.02–1.58 g/kg) and brassicasterol (0.26–0.58 g/kg). Regarding the olive varieties, the sitosterol content changed between 1.03 and 2.01 g/kg, followed by avenasterol ranging from 0.07 to 0.44 g/kg. The brassicasterol, campesterol and stigmasterol contents did not affect the total amount of sterols. The total phytosterol content ranged between 4.25 and 11.37 g/kg for rapeseed and 1.29 and 2.38 g/kg for olives. 相似文献

Fatty acid profiles (FAP), tocopherol (T), and tocotrienol (T3) contents, total lipid contents, and trypsin inhibitor activity were quantitated from thirteen accessions of camelina (Camelina sativa L. Crantz), a little-known oilseed. Camelina seeds of ten accessions were also assayed for ß-glucans. FAP (%) of camelina oils were: oleic (14.1 to 19.5), linoleic (18.8 to 24.0), linolenic (27.0 to 34.7), eicosenoic (12.0 to 14.9), erucic (0.0 to 4.0), all others (11.8 to 17.4). Camelina oil T and T3 contents (mg/100 g) were: αT (0.66 to 2.38), ßT (0.38 to 1.45), γT/ßt3 (4.37 to 18.68), δT (0.00 to 0.48), γT3 (0.00 to 0.79), γT3 (0.00), γT3 (0.00). Total tocols were higher in camelina than in canola, crambe, flax, soybean, and sunflower, with γT/ßT3 constituting 82% of total tocols. The oil content of camelina seeds ranged from 29.9 to 38.3%. Camelina seeds did not contain ß-glucans. Trypsin units inhibited ranged from 12 to 28 compared to 111 for raw soybean. 相似文献

Temperature effects on fatty acid composition during development of low-linolenic oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The influence of temperature during seed development on the fatty acid composition of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) was studied in one low-linolenic and one conventional canola cultivar. The cultivar Regent produces seed oil with ∼20%
linoleic acid (C18:2) and ∼8% linolenic acid (C18:3), whereas Stellar is relatively high in C18:2 (∼25%) and low in C18:3
(∼2.5%). Both cultivars were grown in the field, and the fatty acid compositions of the seed oils were monitored throughout
the period of seed development. In the field, the content of saturated (C16:0+C18:0) and monounsaturated (C18:1) fatty acids
in the seed oil increased when seed developed under high temperatures. C18:3 levels were higher in seed harvested at sites
with lower average daily temperatures. The low C18:3 trait of the cultivar Stellar was relatively stable over environments.
Both temperature and duration of exposure to the temperature during seed development affected the fatty acid composition of
the seed in a controlled environment study. Plants subjected to a high-temperature treatment (30/25°C day/night) for 40 d
produced seed with the lowest C18:3 content and the highest levels of C16:0+C18:0 and C18:1. This was observed in both cultivars. 相似文献

The compositions of rice bran oils (RBO) and three commercial vegetable oils were investigated. For refined groundnut oil,
refined sunflower oil, and refined safflower oil, color values were 1.5–2.0 Lovibond units, unsaponifiable matter contents
were 0.15–1.40%, tocopherol contents were 30–60 mg%, and FFA levels were 0.05–0.10%, whereas refined RBO samples showed higher
values of 7.6–15.5 Lovibond units for color, 2.5–3.2% for unsaponifiable matter, 48–70 mg% for tocopherols content, and 0.14–0.55%
for FFA levels. Of the four oils, only RBO contained oryzanol, ranging from 0.14 to 1.39%. Highoryzanol RBO also showed higher
FFA values compared with the other vegetable oils studied. The analyses of FA and glyceride compositions showed higher palmitic,
oleic, and linoleic acid contents than reported values in some cases and higher partial glycerides content in RBO than the
commonly used vegetable oils. Consequently, the TG level was 79.9–92% in RBO whereas it was >95% in the other oils studied.
Thus, refined RBO showed higher FFA values, variable oryzanol contents, and higher partial acylglycerol contents than commercial
vegetable oils having lower FFA values and higher TG levels. The higher oryzanol levels in RBO may contribute to the higher
FFA values in this oil. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe present work reports the solvent-assisted extraction of oil from papaya (Carica papaya L.) seeds. Various operating parameters such as solid solvent ratio, temperature and time on oil yield, and its effects have been investigated using response surface methodology. The experimental oil yield (20.30 ± 0.03%) at optimal condition was well agreed with the predicted value. The compositions from GC-FID results showed saturated fatty acid (20.94%), monounsaturated fatty acid (73.12%), and polyunsaturated fatty acid (4.96%). It was also found that the solvent-assisted extraction is a simple and effective method for extraction of oil from papaya seeds. 相似文献

The physico-chemical properties, phytochemicals, mineral contents of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) seeds grown at Samsun province in Turkey were evaluated. The oil contents of tobacco seeds ranged from 20.6% (control) to 29.0% (microwave-roasted). L*, a* and b* values of tobacco seeds ranged from 32.38 to 35.61; from 6.32 to 6.78; from 13.72 to 14.27, respectively. Total phenolic contents of tobacco seed extract and oils were reported between 31.02 (oven-roasted) and 34.42 mg GAE/100 g (microwave-roasted) to 4.60 (microwave-roasted) and 6.45 mg GAE/100 g (oven-roasted), respectively. Total flavonoid values of raw and roasted tobacco seed extract and oils were determined between 26.62 (oven) and 67.10 mg/100 g (control) to 21.57 (control) and 44.71 mg/100 g (microwave-roasted), respectively. Gallic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid and catechin are the predominant phenolic components of raw and roasted tobacco seed oils. The amounts of oleic and linoleic acid in raw and roasted tobacco seed oils ranged from 10.23% (oven-roasted) to 12.48% (control) and 73.72% (control) to 76.63% (oven-roasted), respectively. The abundant elements found in seeds were K, P, Ca, Mg, S and Fe. The mineral amounts of the roasted seeds were found higher than that of the control. The highest increase was detected in oven roasted tobacco seeds. 相似文献

The effect of row space (RS) and irrigation (IR) on total protein, total oil, and fatty acid composition of Harran-grown sesame
seed was studied. Total oil content of sesame varied from 46.4 to 51.5%. The oil and protein contents were significantly different
among treatments (P<0.01) in 1998 and 1999. IR affected oil content significantly (P<0.01) in both years, and RS had no significant effect. The protein content was significantly influenced by RS and IR at P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively. RS 70 cm had the highest protein content followed by RS 60, 50, and 40 cm, respectively. IR every 24th
day resulted in the highest level of protein, followed by 18th-, 12th-, and 6th-day irrigation, respectively. Correlation
coefficients between protein and oil content were −0.34 in 1998 and −0.59 in 1999. RS (P<0.05) and IR (P<0.01) influenced oleic and linoleic acid contents significantly. Interactions of RS and IR were also found to be significant
(P<0.05) over the oleic and linoleic acid levels. 相似文献

The changes in composition of total and neutral lipids (NL) as well as glycolipids (GL) and phospholipids (PL) of borage (Borago officinalis L.) seeds, germinated in the dark at 25°C for 10 d, were studied. Total lipids constituted 34.0% of the dry matter of borage seeds. During germination, the content
of total lipids was decreased by 95%. NL accounted for 95.7% of total lipids prior to germination and were composed of triacylglycerols
(TAG; 99.1%), diacylglycerols (DAG; 0.06%), monoacylglycerols (MAG;0.02%), free fatty acids (FFA;0.91%), and sterols (0.02%).
The content of TAG was significantly (P≤0.05) decreased, while that of other components, such as MAG and FFA, significantly (P≤0.05) increased during germination. However, the content of DAG did not change. GL and PL accounted for 2.0 and 2.3% of total
lipids, respectively, and their contents significantly (P≤0.05) increased as germination proceeded. The thin layer chromatography-flame-ionization detection studies showed that phosphatidylcholine
(PC; 69.7%) was the major PL present. The total content of phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), which
were coeluted, was 18.2%; phosphatidic acid (PA) was present at 11.2% of the total PL fraction. Lysophosphatidylcholine was
detected at 0.9%. The proportion of PC, PS, and PE significantly (P≤0.05) decreased during germination, but that of PA increased (P≤0.05) markedly. The fatty acid composition of lipid fractions changed as germination proceeded. The predominant fatty acids
of total lipids, NL, and GL were linoleic and linolenic acids, while those of PL were linoleic and palmitic acids. The present
study demonstrated that the overall changes of lipids seen in borage seeds during germination agree well with results for
other oilseeds. Changes in lipid compositions during germination result from the formation of tissues and metabolic interconversion
of lipid classes. Rapid changes in lipid composition during seed germination may enhance the nutritional value of the sprouts. 相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to explore the influences of microwave heating on the composition of sunflower seeds
and to extend our knowledge concerning the changes in oxidative stability, distribution of FA, and contents of tocopherols
of sunflower seed oil. Microwaved sunflower seeds (Helianthus annuus L.) of two varieties, KL-39 and FH-330, were extracted using n-hexane. Roasting decreased the oil content of the seeds significantly (P<0.05). The oilseed residue analysis revealed no changes in the contents of fiber, ash, and protein that were attributable
to the roasting. Analysis of the extracted oils demonstrated a significant increase in FFA, p-anisidine, saponification, conjugated diene, conjugated triene, density, and color values for roasting periods of 10 and
15 min. The iodine values of the oils were remarkably decreased. A significant (P<0.05) decrease in the amounts of tocopherol constituents of the microwaved sunflower oils also was found. However, after
15 min of roasting, the amount of α-tocopherol homologs was still over 76 and 81% of the original levels for the KL-39 and
FH-330 varieties, respectively. In the same time period, the level of σ-tocopherol fell to zero. Regarding the FA composition
of the extracted oils, microwave heating increased oleic acid 16–42% and decreased linoleic acid 17–19%, but palmitic and
stearic acid contents were not affected significantly (P<0.05). 相似文献

Differential scanning calorimetric analysis of edible oils: Comparison of thermal properties and chemical composition 总被引:2,自引:11,他引:2
The thermal profiles of 17 edible oil samples from different plant origins were examined by differential scanning calorimetry
(DSC). Two other confirmatory analytical techniques, namely gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography
(HPLC), were used to determine fatty acid (FA) and triacylglycerol (TAG) compositions. The FA and TAG compositions were used
to complement the DSC data. Iodine value (IV) analysis was carried out to measure the degree of unsaturation in these oil
samples. The DSC melting and crystallization curves of the oil samples are reported. The contrasting DSC thermal curves provide
a way of distinguishing among these oil samples. Generally, the oil samples with a high degree of saturation (IV<65) showed
DSC melting and crystallization profiles at higher temperature regions than the oil samples with high degree of unsaturation
(IV>65). Each thermal curve was used to determine three DSC parameters, namely, onset temperature (T
o
), offset temperature (T
f
) and temperature range (difference between T
o
and T
f
). Reproducibility of DSC curves was evaluated based on these parameters. Satisfactory reproducibility was achieved for quantitation
of these DSC parameters. The results show that T
o
of the crystallization curve and T
f
of the melting curve differed significantly (P<0.01) in all oil samples. Our observations strengthen the premise that DSC is an efficient and accurate method for characterizing
edible oils. 相似文献

The tomato processing industry generates a significant amount of a by-product (pomace), which is a mixture of peels and seeds. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of conventional oven-roasting (at 120°C, 150°C, and 180°C for 25 min) and innovative microwave-roasting (at 240, 388, and 536 W for 3 min) pretreatments on the physicochemical properties, fatty acid profiles, bioactive contents, and aroma profiles of tomato seeds and their hexane-extracted oils. The total flavonoids contents (TFCs) of the seeds decreased from 258.40 to 141.20 mg quercetin equivalent (QE) per kg after roasting. All roasting treatments improved the extractability of both α- and γ-tocopherols. The amounts of total tocopherols in the seeds increased from 917.61 to 1256.25 mg kg–1 after pretreatment. Luteolin was found to be the most abundant phenolic in seed oils, increasing from 10.68 to 91.72 mg kg–1, followed by quercetin, ferulic acid, and catechin. Within each roasting technique, the ones treated at 150°C and 338 W yielded the oils with the highest concentrations of aroma compounds, 418 and 92 mg kg–1, respectively. The detrimental effect of microwave-roasting on these compounds was more pronounced. In conclusion, microwave-roasting at shorter times than conventional roasting produced tomato seed oils with well-preserved bioactive components and few unfavorable changes. Industrial relevance: Conventional oven-roasting has been widely applied to oilseeds to improve oil yield as well as to obtain desirable sensory characteristics of extracted oils for years. However, longer roasting times may also cause detrimental changes in the properties of oils. On the other side, microwave-assisted applications as an emerging technology provide homogenous and well-controlled heat distribution, shorter treatment times, and considerable energy savings for the processing of various foods. Microwave technology has been easily scaled up and is currently employed for sterilization, drying, pasteurization, precooking, and extraction by the food and chemistry industries. Therefore, the present research suggests the use of microwaves for comparatively short roasting times to produce edible oils with enhanced physicochemical attributes and bioactives contents, and well-maintained sensory properties. This promising innovative technology has the potential to be industrialized for a cost-effective seed roasting process. 相似文献
