This paper presents a knowledge-based approach to managing and retrieving personal documents. The dual document models consist of a document type hierarchy and a folder organization. The document type hierarchy is used to capture the layout, logical and conceptual structures of documents. The folder organization mimics the user's real-world document filing system for organizing and storing documents in an office environment. Predicate-based representation of documents is formalized for specifying knowledge about documents. Document filing and retrieval are predicate-driven. The filing criteria for the folders, which are specified in terms of predicates, govern the grouping of frame instances, regardless of their document types. We incorporated the notions of document type hierarchy and folder organization into the multilevel architecture of document storage. This architecture supports various text-based information retrieval techniques and content-based multimedia information retrieval techniques. The paper also proposes a knowledge-based query-preprocessing algorithm, which reduces the search space. For automating the document filing and retrieval, a predicate evaluation engine with a knowledge base is proposed. The learning agent is responsible for acquiring the knowledge needed by the evaluation engine. 相似文献

This paper presents a knowledge-based approach to effective document retrieval. This approach is based on a dual document model that consists of a document type hierarchy and a folder organization. A predicate-based document query language is proposed to enable users to precisely and accurately specify the search criteria and their knowledge about the documents to be retrieved. A guided search tool is developed as an intelligent natural language oriented user interface to assist users formulating queries. Supported by an intelligent question generator, an inference engine, a question base, and a predicate-based query composer, the guided search collects the most important information known to the user to retrieve the documents that satisfy users' particular interests. A knowledge-based query processing and search engine is devised as the core component in this approach. Algorithms are developed for the search engine to effectively and efficiently retrieve the documents that match the query. 相似文献

In design and engineering, it is important to preserve more than the actual documents making up the product data. For knowledge-intensive industries it is of critical importance to also preserve the soft knowledge of the overall process within the product life cycle. The idea is not only to preserve the designs for the future, but also the knowledge about processes, decision making, and people. In order to preserve this knowledge, it is necessary to captured it at content creation time, a process currently mostly independent from the preservation process. To bring the Semantic Web to life and provide advanced knowledge services, we need efficient ways to access and extract knowledge from Web documents. Although Web page annotations could facilitate such knowledge gathering, annotations are rare and will probably never be rich or detailed enough to cover all the knowledge these documents contain. Manual annotation is impractical and unscalable, and automatic annotation tools remain largely undeveloped. Specialized knowledge services therefore require tools that can search and extract specific knowledge directly from unstructured text on the Web, guided by an ontology that details what type of knowledge to harvest. An ontology uses concepts and relations to classify domain knowledge. Other researchers have used ontologies to support knowledge extraction, but few have explored their full potential in this domain. The paper considers the Artequakt project which links a knowledge extraction tool with an ontology to achieve continuous knowledge support and guide information extraction. The extraction tool searches online documents and extracts knowledge that matches the given classification structure. It provides this knowledge in a machine-readable format that will be automatically maintained in a knowledge base (KB). Knowledge extraction is further enhanced using a lexicon-based term expansion mechanism that provides extended ontology terminology. 相似文献

Much information is nowadays stored electronically in document bases. Users retrieve information from these document bases by browsing and querying. While a large number of tools are available nowadays, not much work has been done on tools that support queries involving all the characteristics of documents as well as the use of domain knowledge during the search for information. In this paper we propose a query language that allows for querying documents using content information, information about the logical structure of the documents as well as information about properties of the documents. Domain knowledge is taken into account during the search as well. This paper presents a predicate-driven document filing system for organizing and automatically filing documents. A document model consists of two basic elements: frame templates representing document classes, and folders which are repositories of frame instances. The frame templates can be organized to form a document type hierarchy, which helps classify and file documents. Frame instances are grouped into a folder on the basis of user-defined criteria, specified as predicates which determine whether a frame instance belongs to a folder. Folders can naturally organized into a folder organization which represents the user's real world document filing system. The predicate consistency problem is discussed to eliminate two abnormalities from a folder organization: inapplicable edges (filing paths) and redundant folders. An evaluating net (including an association dictionary, an instantiation component and a production system) is then proposed for evaluating whether a frame instance satisfies the predicate of a folder during document filing. This paper concerns a method to verify the consistency of a hybrid knowledge base system. We assume the knowledge base of the verified system supports the representation of production rules and frame taxonomies. Moreover, the knowledge base can also be used to represent non-monotonic and uncertain reasoning. For the purpose of the verification, an ATMS like theory is created by simulating the deductive process needed to deduce an inconsistency. Next, the ATMS like theory is processed to compute a specification of the initial fact base that allows for the execution of a deductive tree that leads to the inconsistency. 相似文献

The huge volume of distributed information that is nowadays available in electronic multimedia documents forces a lot of people to consume a significant percentage of their time looking for documents that contain information useful to them. The filtering of electronic documents seems hard to automate, partly because of document heterogeneity, but mainly because it is difficult to train computers to have an understanding of the contents of these documents and make decisions based on user-subjective criteria. In this paper, we suggest a model for the automation of content-based electronic document filtering, supporting multimedia documents in a wide variety of forms. The model is based on multi-agent technology and utilizes an adaptive knowledge base organized as a set of logical rules. Patent databases provide valuable information for technology management. However, the rapid growth of patent documents, the lengthy text and the rich of content in technical terminology, and the complicated relationships among the patents, make it taking a lot of human effort for conducting analyses. As a result, an automated system for assisting the inventors in patent analysis as well as providing support in technological innovation is in great demand. In this paper, a Semantic-based Intellectual Property Management System (SIPMS) has been developed for supporting the management of intellectual properties (IP). It incorporates semantic analysis and text mining techniques for processing and analyzing the patent documents. The method differentiates itself from the traditional technological management tools in its knowledge base. Instead of eliciting knowledge from domain experts, the proposed method adopts global patent databases as sources of knowledge. The system enables users to search for existing patent documents or relevant IP documents which are related to a potential new invention and to support invention by providing the relationships and patterns among a group of IP documents. The method has been evaluated by benchmarking with the performance against traditional text mining technique and has successfully been implemented at a selected reference site. 相似文献
