The use of poly(1,3-dioxolane) (PDOL) electrolyte for lithium batteries has gained attention due to its high ionic conductivity, low cost, and potential for large-scale applications. However, its compatibility with Li metal needs improvement to build a stable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) toward metallic Li anode for practical lithium batteries. To address this concern, this study utilized a simple InCl3-driven strategy for polymerizing DOL and building a stable LiF/LiCl/LiIn hybrid SEI, confirmed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy (Cryo-TEM). Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations and finite element simulation (FES) verify that the hybrid SEI exhibits not only excellent electron insulating properties but also fast transport properties of Li+. Moreover, the interfacial electric field shows an even potential distribution and larger Li+ flux, resulting in uniform dendrite-free Li deposition. The use of the LiF/LiCl/LiIn hybrid SEI in Li/Li symmetric batteries shows steady cycling for 2000 h, without experiencing a short circuit. The hybrid SEI also provided excellent rate performance and outstanding cycling stability in LiFePO4/Li batteries, with a high specific capacity of 123.5 mAh g−1 at 10 C rate. This study contributes to the design of high-performance solid lithium metal batteries utilizing PDOL electrolytes.  相似文献

Lithium metal is the only anode material that can enable the Li−O2 battery to realize its high theoretical energy density (≈3500 Wh kg−1). However, the inherent uncontrolled dendrite growth and serious corrosion limitations of lithium metal anodes make it experience fast degradation and impede the practical application of Li−O2 batteries. Herein, a multifunctional complementary LiF/F-doped carbon gradient protection layer on a lithium metal anode by one-step in situ reaction of molten Li with poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) is developed. The abundant strong polar C-F bonds in the upper carbon can not only act as Li+ capture site to pre-uniform Li+ flux but also regulate the electron configuration of LiF to make Li+ quasi-spontaneously diffuse from carbon to LiF surface, avoiding the strong Li+-adhesion-induced Li aggregation. For LiF, it can behave as fast Li+ conductor and homogenize the nucleation sites on lithium, as well as ensure firm connection with lithium. As a result, this well-designed protection layer endows the Li metal anode with dendrite-free plating/stripping and anticorrosion behavior both in ether-based and carbonate ester-based electrolytes. Even applied protected Li anodes in Li−O2 batteries, its superiority can still be maintained, making the cell achieve stable cycling performance (180 cycles).  相似文献

In view of their high lithium storage capability, phosphorus-based anodes are promising for lithium-ion batteries. However, the low reduction potential (0.74 V versus Li+/Li) of the commonly used ethylene carbonate-based electrolyte does not allow the early formation of a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) prior to the initial phosphorus alloying reaction (1.5 V versus Li+/Li). In the absence of a protective SEI, the phosphorus anode develops cracks, creating additional P/electrolyte interfaces. This results in the loss of P and the formation of a discontinuous SEI, all of which greatly reduce the electrochemical performance of the anode. Here, the effect of solvent reduction potential on the structure of the SEI is investigated. It is found that solvents with a high reduction potential, such as fluoroethylene carbonate, decompose to form an SEI concomitantly with the P alloying reaction. This results in a continuous, mechanically robust, and Li3PO4-rich SEI with improved Li-ion conductivity. These attributes significantly improve the cyclic stability and rate performance of the phosphorus-based anode.  相似文献

Rechargeable magnesium (Mg) metal batteries are a promising candidate for “post-Li-ion batteries” due to their high capacity, high abundance, and most importantly, highly reversible and dendrite-free Mg metal anode. However, the formation of passivating surface film rather than Mg2+-conducting solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on Mg anode surface has always restricted the development of rechargeable Mg batteries. A stable SEI is constructed on the surface of Mg metal anode by the partial decomposition of a pristine Li electrolyte in the electrochemical process. This Li electrolyte is easily prepared by dissolving lithium tetrakis(hexafluoroisopropyloxy)borate (Li[B(hfip)4]) in dimethoxyethane. It is noteworthy that Mg2+ can be directly introduced into this Li electrolyte during the initial electrochemical cycles for in situ forming a hybrid Mg2+/Li+ electrolyte, and then the cycled electrolyte can conduct Mg-ion smoothly. The existence of this as-formed SEI blocks the further parasitic reaction of Mg metal anode with electrolyte and enables this electrolyte enduring long-term electrochemical cycles stably. This approach of constructing superior SEI on Mg anode surface and exploiting novel Mg electrolyte provides a new avenue for practical application of high-performance rechargeable Mg batteries.  相似文献

Fluorinated solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) derived from fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) is particularly favored for dendrite suppression in lithium metal batteries because of the high Young's modulus (≈64.9 Gpa) and low electronic conductivity (10?31 S cm?1) of LiF. However, the transportation ability of Li+ in this fluorinated SEI under high current densities is limited by the low ionic conductivity of LiF (≈10?12 S cm?1). Herein, by rational design, 0.1 m lithium bisoxalatodifluorophosphate (LiDFBOP) is adopted to modify fluorinated SEI in FEC based electrolyte for fast charging lithium metal batteries. Benefiting from the synergetic effect of LiDFBOP and FEC, a fluorinated SEI rich in LiF and LixPOyFz species can be yielded, which can further improve the stability and ionic conductivity of SEI for fast Li+ transportation. Meanwhile, the average coulombic efficiency for Li plating/stripping is improved from 92.0% to 96.7%, thus promoting stable cycling of Li||Li symmetrical batteries with dendrite free morphologies, even at high current densities (3.0 mA cm?2) and high plating/stripping capacities (3.0 mAh cm?2). More attractively, in practical Li||LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 batteries, the cycling life at 1C and rate capacities at 6C are also significantly improved. Therefore, the synergetic effect of LiDFBOP and FEC provides great potential for achieving advanced lithium metal batteries with fast charging ability.  相似文献

Constructing a 3D composite Li metal anode (LMA) along with the engineering of artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is a promising strategy for achieving dendrite-free Li deposition and high cycling stability. The nanostructure of artificial SEI is closely related to the performance of the LMA. Herein, the self-grown process and morphology of in situ formed Li2S during lithiation of CuxS is studied systematically, and a large-sized sheet-like Li2S layer as an artificial SEI is in situ generated on the inner surface of a 3D continuous porous Cu skeleton (3DCu@Li2S-S). The sheet-like Li2S layer with few interfacial pitfalls (Cu/Li2S heterogeneous interface) possesses enhanced diffusion of Li ions. And the continuous porous structure provides transport channels for lithium-ion transport. As a result, the 3DCu@Li2S-S presents a high Coulombic efficiency (99.3%), long cycle life (500 cycles), and high-rate performance (10 mA cm−2). Furthermore, Li/3DCu@Li2S anode fabricated by thermal infusion method inherits the synergistic advantages of sheet-like Li2S and continuous porous structure. The Li/3DCu@Li2S anode shows significantly enhanced cycling life in both liquid and solid electrolytes. This work provides a new concept to design artificial SEI for LMA with high safe and high performance.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal anodes (LMAs) are promising anode candidates for realizing high-energy-density batteries. However, the formation of unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers on Li metal is harmful for stable Li cycling; hence, enhancing the physical/chemical properties of SEI layers is important for stabilizing LMAs. Herein, thiourea (TU, CH4N2S) is introduced as a new catalyzing agent for LiNO3 reduction to form robust inorganic-rich SEI layers containing abundant Li3N. Due to the unique molecular structure of TU, the TU molecules adsorb on the Cu electrode by forming Cu S bond and simultaneously form hydrogen bonding with other hydrogen bonds accepting species such as NO3 and TFSI through its N H bonds, leading to their catalyzed reduction and hence the formation of inorganic-rich SEI layer with abundant Li3N, LiF, and Li2S/Li2S2. Particularly, this TU-modified SEI layer shows a lower film resistance and better uniformity compared to the electrochemically and naturally formed SEI layers, enabling planar Li growth without any other material treatments and hence improving the cyclic stability in Li/Cu half-cells and Li@Cu/LiFePO4 full-cells.  相似文献

No single polymer or liquid electrolyte has a large enough energy gap between the empty and occupied electronic states for both dendrite‐free plating of a lithium‐metal anode and a Li+ extraction from an oxide host cathode without electrolyte oxidation in a high‐voltage cell during the charge process. Therefore, a double‐layer polymer electrolyte is investigated, in which one polymer provides dendrite‐free plating of a Li‐metal anode and the other allows a Li+ extraction from an oxide host cathode without oxidation of the electrolyte in a 4 V cell over a stable charge/discharge cycling at 65 °C; a poly(ethylene oxide) polymer contacts the lithium‐metal anode and a poly(N‐methyl‐malonic amide) contacts the cathode. All interfaces of the flexible, plastic electrolyte remain stable with no visible reduction of the Li+ conductivity on crossing the polymer/polymer interface.  相似文献

Uncontrollable growth of Li dendrites and low utilization of active Li severely hinder its practical application. Construction of an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on Li is demonstrated as one of the most effective ways to circumvent the above problems. Herein, a novel spray quenching method is developed in situ to fabricate an organic–inorganic composite SEI on Li metal. By spray quenching molten Li in a modified ether‐based solution, a homogeneous and dense SEI consisting of organic matrix embedded with inorganic LiF and Li3N nanocrystallines (denoted as OIFN) is constructed on Li metal. Arising from high ionic conductivity and strong mechanical stability, the OIFN can not only effectively minimize the corrosion reaction of Li, but also greatly suppresses the dendrite growth. Accordingly, the OIFN‐Li anode presents prominent electrochemical performance with an enhanced Coulombic efficiency of 98.15% for 200 cycles and a small hysteresis of <450 mV even at ultrahigh current density up to 10 mA cm?2. More importantly, during the full cell test with limited Li source, a high utilization of Li up to 40.5% is achieved for the OIFN‐Li anode. The work provides a brand‐new route to fabricate advanced SEI on alkali metal for high‐performance alkali‐metal batteries.  相似文献

Lithium metal batteries (such as lithium–sulfur, lithium–air, solid state batteries with lithium metal anode) are highly considered as promising candidates for next‐generation energy storage systems. However, the unstable interfaces between lithium anode and electrolyte definitely induce the undesired and uncontrollable growth of lithium dendrites, which results in the short‐circuit and thermal runaway of the rechargeable batteries. Herein, a dual‐layered film is built on a Li metal anode by the immersion of lithium plates into the fluoroethylene carbonate solvent. The ionic conductive film exhibits a compact dual‐layered feature with organic components (ROCO2Li and ROLi) on the top and abundant inorganic components (Li2CO3 and LiF) in the bottom. The dual‐layered interface can protect the Li metal anode from the corrosion of electrolytes and regulate the uniform deposition of Li to achieve a dendrite‐free Li metal anode. This work demonstrates the concept of rational construction of dual‐layered structured interfaces for safe rechargeable batteries through facile surface modification of Li metal anodes. This not only is critically helpful to comprehensively understand the functional mechanism of fluoroethylene carbonate but also affords a facile and efficient method to protect Li metal anodes.  相似文献

Lithium metal has attracted much research interest as a possible anode material for high‐energy‐density lithium‐ion batteries in recent years. However, its practical use is severely limited by uncontrollable deposition, volume expansion, and dendrite formation. Here, a metastable state of Li, Li cluster, that forms between LiC6 and Li dendrites when over‐lithiating carbon cloth (CC) is discovered. The Li clusters with sizes in the micrometer and submicrometer scale own outstanding electrochemical reversibility between Li+ and Li, allowing the CC/Li clusters composite anode to demonstrate a high first‐cycle coulombic efficiency (CE) of 94.5% ± 1.0% and a stable CE of 99.9% for 160 cycles, which is exceptional for a carbon/lithium composite anode. The CC/Li clusters composite anode shows a high capacity of 3 mAh cm?2 contributed by both Li+ intercalation and Li‐cluster formation, and excellent cycling stability with a signature sloping voltage profile. Furthermore, the CC/Li clusters composite anode can be assembled into full cells without precycling or prelithiation. The full cells containing bare CC as the anode and excessive LiCoO2 as the cathode exhibit high specific capacity and good cyclic stability in 200 cycles, stressing the advantage of controlled formation of Li clusters.  相似文献

Metallic lithium is the most competitive anode material for next-generation lithium (Li)-ion batteries. However, one of its major issues is Li dendrite growth and detachment, which not only causes safety issues, but also continuously consumes electrolyte and Li, leading to low coulombic efficiency (CE) and short cycle life for Li metal batteries. Herein, the Li dendrite growth of metallic lithium anode is suppressed by forming a lithium fluoride (LiF)-enriched solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) through the lithiation of surface-fluorinated mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB-F) anodes. The robust LiF-enriched SEI with high interfacial energy to Li metal effectively promotes planar growth of Li metal on the Li surface and meanwhile prevents its vertical penetration into the LiF-enriched SEI from forming Li dendrites. At a discharge capacity of 1.2 mAh cm−2, a high CE of >99.2% for Li plating/stripping in FEC-based electrolyte is achieved within 25 cycles. Coupling the pre-lithiated MCMB-F (Li@MCMB-F) anode with a commercial LiFePO4 cathode at the positive/negative (P/N) capacity ratio of 1:1, the LiFePO4//Li@MCMB-F cells can be charged/discharged at a high areal capacity of 2.4 mAh cm−2 for 110 times at a negligible capacity decay of 0.01% per cycle.  相似文献

Uncontrolled ion transport and susceptible SEI films are the key factors that induce lithium dendrite growth, which hinders the development of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, a TpPa-2SO3H covalent organic framework (COF) nanosheet adhered cellulose nanofibers (CNF) on the polypropylene separator (COF@PP) is successfully designed as a battery separator to respond to the aforementioned issues. The COF@PP displays dual-functional characteristics with the aligned nanochannels and abundant functional groups of COFs, which can simultaneously modulate ion transport and SEI film components to build robust lithium metal anodes. The Li//COF@PP//Li symmetric cell exhibits stable cycling over 800 h with low ion diffusion activation energy and fast lithium ion transport kinetics, which effectively suppresses the dendrite growth and improves the stability of Li+ plating/stripping. Moreover, The LiFePO4//Li cells with COF@PP separator deliver a high discharge capacity of 109.6 mAh g−1 even at a high current density of 3 C. And it exhibits excellent cycle stability and high capacity retention due to the robust LiF-rich SEI film induced by COFs. This COFs-based dual-functional separator promotes the practical application of lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

Suppressing the dendrite formation and managing the volume change of lithium (Li) metal anode have been global challenges in the lithium batteries community. Herein, a duplex copper (Cu) foil with an ant‐nest‐like network and a dense substrate is reported for an ultrastable Li metal anode. The duplex Cu is fabricated by sulfurization of thick Cu foil with a subsequent skeleton self‐welding procedure. Uniform Li deposition is achieved by the 3D interconnected architecture and lithiophilic surface of self‐welded Cu skeleton. The sufficient space in the porous layer enables a large areal capacity for Li and significantly improves the electrode–electrolyte interface. Simulations reveal that the structure allows proper electric field penetration into the connected tunnels. The assembled Li anodes exhibit high coulombic efficiency (97.3% over 300 cycles) and long lifespan (>880 h) at a current density of 1 mA cm?2 with a capacity of 1 mAh cm?2. Stable and deep cycling can be maintained up to 50 times at a high capacity of 10 mAh cm?2.  相似文献

Considerable efforts are devoted to relieve the critical lithium dendritic and volume change problems in the lithium metal anode. Constructing uniform Li+ distribution and lithium “host” are shown to be the most promising strategies to drive practical lithium metal anode development. Herein, a uniform Li nucleation/growth behavior in a confined nanospace is verified by constructing vertical graphene on a 3D commercial copper mesh. The difference of solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) composition and lithium growth behavior in the confined nanospace is further demonstrated by in‐depth X‐ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) and line‐scan energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopic (EDS) methods. As a result, a high Columbic efficiency of 97% beyond 250 cycles at a current density of 2 mA cm?2 and a prolonged lifespan of symmetrical cell (500 cycles at 5 mA cm?2) can be easily achieved. More meaningfully, the solid‐state lithium metal cell paired with the composite lithium anode and LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 (NCM) as the cathode also demonstrate reduced polarization and extended cycle. The present confined nanospace–derived hybrid anode can further promote the development of future all solid‐state lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal is promising for high energy density batteries due to its low electrochemical potential (?3.04 V) and high specific capacity (3860 mAh g?1). However, the safety issues impede the commercialization of Li anode batteries. In this work, research of hierarchical structure designs for Li anodes to suppress Li dendrite growth and alleviate volume expansion from the interior (by the 3D current collector and host matrix) to the exterior (by the artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), protective layer, separator, and solid state electrolyte) is concluded. The basic principles for achieving Li dendrite and volume expansion free Li anode are summarized. Following these principles, 3D porous current collector and host matrix are designed to suppress the Li dendrite growth from the interior. Second, artificial SEI, the protective layer, and separator as well as solid‐state electrolyte are constructed to regulate the distribution of current and control the Li nucleation and deposition homogeneously for suppressing the Li dendrite growth from exterior of Li anode. Ultimately, this work puts forward that it is significant to combine the Li dendrite suppression strategies from the interior to exterior by 3D hierarchical structure designs and Li metal modification to achieve excellent cycling and safety performance of Li metal batteries.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal anode (LMA) is highly considered as a desirable anode material for next-generation rechargeable batteries because of its high specific capacity and the lowest reduction potential. However, uncontrollable growth of Li dendrites, large volume change, and unstable interfaces between LMA and electrolyte hinder its practical application. Herein, a novel in situ formed artificial gradient composite solid electrolyte interphase (GCSEI) layer for highly stable LMAs is proposed. The inner rigid inorganics (Li2S and LiF) with high Li+ ion affinity and high electron tunneling barrier are beneficial to achieve homogeneous Li plating, while the flexible polymers (poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(vinylidene fluoride)) on the surface of GCSEI layer can accommodate the volume change. Furthermore, the GCSEI layer demonstrates fast Li+ ion transport capability and increased Li+ ion diffusion kinetics. Accordingly, the modified LMA enables excellent cycling stability (over 1000 h at 3 mA cm−2) in the symmetric cell using carbonate electrolyte, and the corresponding Li-GCSEI||LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 full cell demonstrates 83.4% capacity retention after 500 cycles. This work offers a new strategy for the design of dendrite-free LMAs for practical applications.  相似文献

Poor cycling stability and safety concerns regarding lithium (Li) metal anodes are two major issues preventing the commercialization of high‐energy density Li metal‐based batteries. Herein, a novel tri‐layer separator design that significantly enhances the cycling stability and safety of Li metal‐based batteries is presented. A thin, thermally stable, flexible, and hydrophilic cellulose nanofiber layer, produced using a straightforward paper‐making process, is directly laminated on each side of a plasma‐treated polyethylene (PE) separator. The 2.5 µm thick, mesoporous (≈20 nm average pore size) cellulose nanofiber layer stabilizes the Li metal anodes by generating a uniform Li+ flux toward the electrode through its homogenous nanochannels, leading to improved cycling stability. As the tri‐layer separator maintains its dimensional stability even at 200 °C when the internal PE layer is melted and blocks the ion transport through the separator, the separator also provides an effective thermal shutdown function. The present nanocellulose‐based tri‐layer separator design thus significantly facilitates the realization of high‐energy density Li metal‐based batteries.  相似文献

Lithium (sodium)‐metal batteries are the most promising batteries for next‐generation electrical energy storage due to their high volumetric energy density and gravimetric energy density. However, their applications have been prevented by uncontrollable dendrite growth and large volume expansion during the stripping/plating process. To address this issue, the key strategy is to realize uniform lithium (sodium) deposition during the stripping/plating process. Herein, a thin lithiophilic layer consisting of RuO2 particles anchored on brush‐like 3D carbon cloth (RuO2@CC) is prepared by a simple solution‐based method. After infusion of Li, the RuO2@CC transfers to Li‐Ru@CC. Ru nanoparticles not only play a role in leading Li+ (Na+) to plate on the 3D carbon framework, but also lower local current density because of the good electrical conductivity. Furthermore, density functional theory calculations demonstrate that Ru metal, the reaction product of alkali metal and Ru, can lead Li+ to plate evenly around carbon fiber owing to the strong binding energy with Li+. The Li‐Ru@CC anode shows ultralong cycle life (1500 h at 5 mA cm?2). The full cell of Li‐Ru@CC|LiFePO4 exhibits lower polarization (90% capacity retention after 650 cycles). In addition, sodium metal batteries based on Na‐Ru@CC anodes can achieve similar improvement.  相似文献

The Li–O2 battery (LOB) is considered as a promising next‐generation energy storage device because of its high theoretic specific energy. To make a practical rechargeable LOB, it is necessary to ensure the stability of the Li anode in an oxygen atmosphere, which is extremely challenging. In this work, an effective Li‐anode protection strategy is reported by using boric acid (BA) as a solid electrolyte interface (SEI) forming additive. With the assistance of BA, a continuous and compact SEI film is formed on the Li‐metal surface in an oxygen atmosphere, which can significantly reduce unwanted side reactions and suppress the growth of Li dendrites. Such an SEI film mainly consists of nanocrystalline lithium borates connected with amorphous borates, carbonates, fluorides, and some organic compounds. It is ionically conductive and mechanically stronger than conventional SEI layer in common Li‐metal‐based batteries. With these benefits, the cycle life of LOB is elongated more than sixfold.  相似文献
