Cf/SiC composite is an excellent structural and functional material, silicon carbide nanowires (SiCnws) are not only a toughening material but also a great application in the field of microwave absorption. In this study, SiCnws are grown on the surface of carbon fiber (Cf) by polymer impregnation and pyrolysis, and the SiC matrix was prepared by chemical vapor osmosis method. The SiCnws are introduced to enhance the mechanical and microwave absorption properties simultaneously. After 3 impregnations, the flexural strength of the composite was 107.35 ± 10 MPa. When the thickness is 1.86 mm, the minimum reflection loss value is ?41.08 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth (RL ≤ ?10 dB) is 3.86 GHz. Furthermore, the microwave absorption mechanism of the material is discussed. This work provides a new method to prepare lightweight, stable and high-performance microwave absorption materials, and these materials are expected to be used in high temperature environments.  相似文献

Performance degradation always occurs in carbon fibers/carbon nanotubes (CFs/CNTs) multi-scale reinforced composites prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. In this study, pyrolytic carbon (PyC) interlayers are introduced to overcome this problem, and the mechanism is studied in detail. The multi-scale reinforcements are combined with lithium aluminosilicate (LAS) glass-ceramic into ceramic matrix composites by slurry impregnation and hot pressing sintering. The results show that the PyC interlayers can protect the CFs from corrosion of the catalyst at high temperature, improve stress transfers and promote the synergy between various components. The CNTs and LAS matrix form a transition area, which causes deflection and shunting when cracks propagate. These factors have greatly increased the crack extension energy, so the mechanical properties have been greatly improved. The flexural strength, fracture toughness and work of fracture reach 602 ± 55 MPa, 10.7 ± 2 MPa m1/2, 4.6 ± 0.7 kJ m−2, respectively, which are 42.3%, 42.6% and 76.9% higher than CF/LAS. This work expands the study of the CFs/CNTs multi-scale reinforcements and the LAS composites, and provides a useful reference for the related research.  相似文献

Herein, the SiC nanowires were successfully fabricated via chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) into carbon fiber felts (CFs) and then the SiOC/SiCnws/CFs composites were synthesized by precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) processes. Results indicated that the lightweight composites possessed enhanced mechanical performance, low thermal conductivity, and excellent electromagnetic wave absorption properties. Detailedly, the compressive strength reached to 22.0 MPa and 9.6 MPa after two PIP processes cycles in z and x/y directions, respectively. Meanwhile, the composites exhibited tailored electromagnetic wave absorption performance with the effective absorption bandwidth of 3.06 GHz, and the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) was -48.2 dB with a thickness of 3.6 mm. The present work has a guidance to prepare and design multifunction properties for application in harsh environment.  相似文献

In this study, the high-content SiCnw reinforced SiC ceramic matrix composites (SiCnw/SiC CMC) were successfully fabricated by hot pressing β-SiC and sintering additive (Al2O3-Y2O3) with boron nitride interphase modification SiCnw. The effects of sintering additive content and mass fraction (5–25 wt%) of SiCnw on the density, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The results showed that with the increase of sintering additives from 10 wt% to 12 wt%, the relative density of the SiCnw/SiC CMC increased from 97.3% to 98.9%, attributed to the generated Y3Al5O12 (YAG) liquid phase from the Al2O3-Y2O3 that promotes the rearrangement and migration of SiC grains. The comprehensive performance of the obtained composite with 15 wt% SiCnw possessed the optimal flexural strength and fracture toughness of 524 ± 30.24 MPa and 12.39 ± 0.49 MPa·m1/2, respectively. Besides, the fracture mode of the composites with 25 wt% SiCnw content revealed a pseudo-plastic fracture behavior. It concludes that the 25 wt% SiCnw/SiC CMC was toughened by the fiber pull-outs, debonding, bridging, and crack deflection that can consume plenty of fracture energy. The strategy of SiC nanowires worked as a main bearing phase for the fabrication of SiC/SiC CMC providing critical information for understanding the mechanical behavior of high toughness and high strength SiC nanoceramic matrix composites.  相似文献

Herein, the SiC ceramic aerogels with in-situ growth of SiC nanowires (SiCw/SiC CAs) have been synthesized by polymer‐derived ceramics (PDCs) method. The morphology, microstructure, and phase composition of the as-prepared samples were systematically investigated through SEM, XRD, TEM, Raman spectrum, FT-IR spectrum, and XPS spectrum techniques. The results showed that the as-obtained SiCw has a diameter of about 80 nm and a length of 1–3.5 μm. In addition, the formation mechanism and evolution process of growth SiCw were systematically studied using a VLS growth mechanisms. The way in this work could be expanded to synthesize other Si-based porous ceramic aerogel nanostructed with nanowires.  相似文献

Novel Nextel™ 440 aluminosilicate fiber reinforced SiC matrix composites, with/without chemical vapor deposited carbon interphase were fabricated by polymer derived ceramic process, and they were studied by a combination of micro- and macro- mechanical techniques such as nanoindentation, micropillar splitting, fiber push-in, digital image correction and high temperature three point bend tests. Specifically, micropillar splitting test was firstly employed to measure in-situ the localized fracture toughness. The results revealed that the carbon interphase can effectively hinder the interfacial reactions between Nextel™ 440 fiber and SiC matrix, thus remarkably weakening the composite interfacial shear strength from ∼293 MPa to ∼42 MPa, and enhance the composite fracture toughness from ∼1.8 MPa√m to ∼6.3 MPa√m, respectively. This is mainly a consequence of weak interface that triggers crack deflection at the fiber/interphase interface. Finally, this novel composite showed stable mechanical properties in vacuum at temperature range from 25 °C to 1000 °C.  相似文献

SiC ceramics, for the first time, were toughened with nano scale carbon nanotubes (CNTs) buckypapers and micro scale carbon fibers within this work. The CNTs buckypapers were alternately laminated with carbon fiber fabrics (Cfb) to a preform by needle punched in Z-direction. Afterwards, the buckypaper-Cfb/SiC composites were obtained by infiltrating of SiC into the as-laminated preform via chemical vapor infiltration (CVI). Some effects of different lamination thickness and CVI times on the mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. Results showed that the maximum flexural strength and work of fracture of the buckypaper-Cfb/SiC composites reached 262.4 MPa and 4.15 kJ m−2, respectively, when the thickness reached about 3.50 mm. Compared to Cfb/SiC composites without buckypapers, the strength and work of fracture of the buckypaper-Cfb/SiC composites increased by 19.8% and 111.7%, respectively. Densified composites can be obtained after CVI for 8 times. A main factor affecting the mechanical properties of buckypaper-Cfb/SiC composites is the degree of densification. Introducing nano scale CNTs and micro scale carbon fibers reaches a multiscale co-toughening effect. Meanwhile, a sandwich structure ceramic matrix composite with high-CNT concentration was obtained in this work.  相似文献

In situ modulus and strength of carbon fibers in C/SiC composites   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
《Ceramics International》2017,43(9):6885-6890
The in situ elastic modulus and strength distribution of carbon fibers in C/SiC composites were studied. To obtain the in situ property data, fibers were heat treated according to the fabrication process of C/SiC composites. Tensile tests were performed on the single fibers and fiber bundles. The equivalent in situ modulus and strength were proposed considering the loose and unparallel fibers in the composites. The experimental and numerical results showed that the equivalent elastic modulus and average strength of in situ fibers are much lower than that of the original fibers. In addition, the equivalent strength distribution of in situ fibers is more dispersive.  相似文献

To improve the high-temperature tolerance of carbon/carbon composites, a compact SiC-nanowires toughened LaB6-MoSi2-SiC/SiC (SiCnws-LMS/SiC) coating was designed and fabricated by combination of multiple methods including pack cementation, chemical vapor deposition and supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying. Isothermal oxidation results indicated that the mass loss of LMS/SiC coating decreased from 4.34?±?0.28% to 1.12?±?0.23% after oxidation for 200?h at 1773?K benefit from the addition of SiCnws. Absence of obvious cracks and voids in the coating after oxidation test indicated that the interfaces between various phases and SiCnws could obstruct the crack propagation by releasing the thermal stress in the coating. Meanwhile, after the introduction of SiCnws, the bonding strength and flexural strength of the coating were respectively increased by 54.54% and 59.77% compared to the LMS/SiC coating without SiCnws. The improved mechanical properties could be attributed to the pullout and bridging effects of SiCnws, which created multi-scaled reinforcements, thereby enhancing the load bearing capacity to increase the fracture toughness of the coating.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Carbon fibre-reinforced lithium aluminosilicate matrix composites (Cf/LAS) with different SiB6 contents were prepared by the hot pressing method to assess their mechanical properties and oxidation resistance. Composite that was incorporated with 2 wt-% SiB6 exhibited the highest flexural strength of 500 ± 22.3 MPa. Weight loss and residual strength of Cf/LAS modified by SiB6 were analysed. The results indicated that the addition of SiB6 had a remarkable effect on improving the oxidation resistance for Cf/LAS. To establish a direct relationship among interfacial microstructure, mechanical and oxidation behaviour of the studied composites, their connection was examined and discussed.  相似文献

Carbon-bonded carbon fiber (CBCF) composites are novel and important high-temperature insulation materials owing to their light weight, low thermal conductivity and high fracture tolerance. To further improve the mechanical property of CBCF composite, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) SiC nanowires structure, which is in situ grown on a CBCF matrix via directly annealing silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) ceramic precursor. The synthesized multiscale reinforcements including microscale SiOC ceramics and nanoscale SiC nanowires are mainly attributed to the initial phase separation of SiOC phase and subsequent solid-phase reaction of SiO and C phases. Compared to SiOC/CBCF composite, the resulting 3D SiC nanowires/SiOC/CBCF hybrid structure exhibited high flexural/tensile strength and fractured strain due to the pull-out and bridging behavior of SiC nanowires. This one-step process supplied a feasible way to synthesize 3D SiC nanowires to reinforce and toughen SiOC-modified CBCF composite.  相似文献

Non-oxide ceramic matrix composites (CMC) based on SiC fibers with SiC matrix were fabricated by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) and characterized regarding their microstructural features and their mechanical properties. The fiber preform was made using winding technology. During the winding process, the SiC fiber roving was impregnated by a slurry containing SiC powder and sintering additives (Y2O3, Al2O3 and SiO2). This already helped to achieve a partial matrix formation during the preform fabrication. In this way, the number of PIP cycles to achieve composites with less than 10% open porosity could be reduced significantly. Additionally, damage-tolerant properties of the composites were obtained by an optimal design of the matrix properties although only uncoated fibers were used. Finally, composites with a strength level of about 500 MPa and a damage-tolerant fracture behavior with about 0.4% strain to failure were obtained.  相似文献

Pitch-based carbon fibers were assembled in horizontal and thickness directions of SiC/SiC composites to form three-dimensional heat conduction networks. The effects of heat conduction networks on microstructures, mechanics, and thermal conductivities were investigated. The results revealed the benefit of introducing heat conduction networks in the densification of composites. The maximum bending strength and interlaminar shear strength of the modified composites reached 568.67 MPa and 68.48 MPa, respectively. These values were equivalent to 18.6% and 69.4% increase compared to those of composites without channels. However, channels in thickness direction destroyed the continuity of fibers and matrix, creating numerous defects. As the volume fraction of heat conduction channels rose, the pinning strengthening effect of channels and influence of defects competed with each other to result in first enhanced mechanical properties followed by a decline. The in-plane thermal conductivity was found anisotropic with a maximum value reaching 86.20 W/(m·K) after introducing pitch-based carbon unidirectional tapes. The thermal conductivity in thickness direction increased with volume fraction of pitch-based carbon fibers and reached 19.13 W/(m·K) at 3.87 vol% pitch-based carbon fibers in the thickness direction. This value was 90.75% higher than that of composites without channels.  相似文献

Carbon fiber reinforced ceramic matrix ceramic/polymers composites have excellent physical-mechanical properties for their specific strength, high hardness, and strong fracture toughness relative to their matrix, and they also possess a good performance of wear resistance, heat resistance, dimensional stability, and ablation resistance. It is a choice for thermal protection and high temperature structural materials. However, this kind of composites owning characteristics of high hardness and abrasion is difficult to machine which impedes the large-scale industrial application of manufacturing. This paper mainly reviews the research on machining status of carbon fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites including carbon fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites from the aspects of conventional machining and unconventional machining method. The machining trends, problems existing in various machining methods and corresponding solutions are generalized and analyzed.  相似文献

The employment of coating technique on the silicon carbide fibers plays a pivotal role in preparing SiC fiber-reinforced SiC composites (SiCf/SiC) toward electromagnetic wave absorption applications. In this work, SiC nanowires (SiCNWs) are successfully deposited onto the pyrolytic carbon (PyC) coated SiC fibers by an electrophoretic deposition method, and subsequently densified by chemical vapor infiltration to obtain SiCNWs/PyC-SiCf/SiC composites. The results reveal that the introduction of SiCNWs could markedly enhance the microwave absorption properties of PyC-SiCf/SiC composites. Owing to the increasing of SiCNWs loading, the minimum reflection loss of composites raises up to −58.5 dB in the SiCNWs/PyC-SiCf/SiC composites with an effective absorption bandwidth (reflection loss ≤ −10 dB) of 6.13 GHz. The remarkable enhancement of electromagnetic wave absorption performances is mainly attributed to the improved dielectric loss ability, impedance matching and multiple reflections. This work provides a novel strategy in preparing SiCf/SiC composites with excellent electromagnetic wave absorption properties.  相似文献

Reactive melt infiltration (RMI) has been proved to be one of the most promising technologies for fabrication of C/SiC composites because of its low cost and short processing cycle. However, the poor mechanical and anti-ablation properties of the RMI-C/SiC composites severely limit their practical use due to an imperfect siliconization of carbon matrixes with thick walls and micron-sized pores. Here, we report a high-performance RMI-C/SiC composite fabricated using a carbon fiber reinforced nanoporous carbon (NC) matrix preform composed of overlapping nanoparticles and abundant nanopores. For comparison, the C/C performs with conventional pyrocarbon (PyC) or resin carbon (ReC) matrixes were also used to explore the effect of carbon matrix on the composition and property of the obtained C/SiC composites. The C/SiC derived from C/NC with a high density of 2.50 g cm?3 has dense and pure SiC matrix and intact carbon fibers due to the complete ceramization of original carbon matrix and the almost full consumption of inspersed silicon. In contrast, the counterparts based on C/PyC or C/ReC with a low density have a little SiC, much residual silicon and carbon, and many corroded fibers. As a result, the C/SiC from C/NC shows the highest flexural strength of 218.1 MPa and the lowest ablation rate of 0.168 µm s?1 in an oxyacetylene flame of ~ 2200 °C with a duration time of 500 s. This work opens up a new way for the development of high-performance ceramic matrix composites by siliconizing the C/C preforms with nanoporous carbon matrix.  相似文献

To protect carbon/carbon composites (C/Cs) against oxidation, SiC coating toughened by SiC nanowires (SiCNWs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) hybrid nano-reinforcements was prepared on C/Cs by a two-step technique involving electrophoretic co-deposition and reactive melt infiltration. Co-deposited SiCNWs and CNTs with different shapes including straight-line, fusiform, curved and bamboo dispersed uniformly on the surface of C/Cs forming three-dimensional networks, which efficiently refined the SiC grains and meanwhile suppressed the cracking deflection of the coating during the fabrication process. The presence of SiCNWs and CNTs contributed to the formation of continuous glass layer during oxidation, while toughed the coating by introducing toughing methods such as bridging effect, crack deflection and nanowire pull out. Results showed that after oxidation for 45 h at 1773 K, the weight loss percentage of SiC coated specimen was 1.35%, while the weight gain percentage of the SiCNWs/CNTs reinforced SiC coating was 0.03052% due to the formation of continuous glass layer. After being exposed for 100 h, the weight loss percentage of the SiCNWs/CNTs reinforced SiC coating was 1.08%, which is relatively low.  相似文献
