La2Ce2O7 (LC) is receiving increasing attention due to its lower thermal conductivity, better phase stability and higher sintering resistance than yttria partially stabilized zirconia (YSZ). However, the low fracture toughness and the sudden drop of CTE at approximately 350?°C greatly limit its application. In this study, the LC/50?vol.% YSZ composite TBC was deposited by supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying (SAPS). Compared to YSZ or double layered LC/YSZ coating, the thermal cycling life of LC/50?vol.% YSZ coating with CMAS attack increased by 93% or 91%. The latter possessed higher fracture toughness (1.48?±?0.26?MPa?m1/2) than LC (0.72?±?0.15?MPa?m1/2) and better CMAS corrosion resistance than YSZ owing to the formation of Ca2(LaxCe1-x)8(SiO4)6O6–4x with <001> orientation perpendicular to the coating surface. The sudden CTE decrease of LC was fully suppressed in LC/50?vol.% YSZ coating due to the change of temperature dependent residual stresses induced by YSZ.  相似文献

In order to reveal the effect of Sc2O3 and Y2O3 co-doping system on the thermal shock resistance of ZrO2 thermal barrier coatings, Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 thermal barrier coatings (YSZ TBCs) and Sc2O3–Y2O3 co-stabilized ZrO2 thermal barrier coatings (ScYSZ TBCs) were prepared by atmospheric plasma spraying technology. The surface and cross-section micromorphologies of YSZ ceramic coating and ScYSZ ceramic coatings were compared, and their phase composition before and after heat treatment at 1200 °C was analyzed. Whereupon, the thermal shock experiment of the two TBCs at 1100 °C was carried out. The results show that the micromorphologies of YSZ ceramic coating and ScYSZ ceramic coating were not much different, but the porosity of the latter was slightly higher. Before heat treatment, the phase composition of both YSZ ceramic coating and ScYSZ ceramic coating was a single T′ phase. After heat treatment, the phase composition of YSZ ceramic coating was a mixture of M phase, T phase, and C phase, while that of ScYSZ ceramic coating was still a single T′ phase, indicating ScYSZ ceramic coating had better T′ phase stability, which could be attributed to the co-doping system of Sc2O3 and Y2O3 facilitated the formation of defect clusters. In the thermal shock experiment, the thermal shock life of YSZ TBCs was 310 times, while that of ScYSZ TBCs was 370 times, indicating the latter had better thermal shock resistance. The difference in thermal shock resistance could be attributed to the different sintering resistance of ceramic coatings and the different growth rates of thermally grown oxide in the two TBCs. Furthermore, the thermal shock failure modes of YSZ TBCs and ScYSZ TBCs were different, the former was delamination, while the latter was delamination and shallow spallation.  相似文献

Gadolinium zirconate (Gd2Zr2O7, GZ) as one of the promising thermal barrier coating materials for high-temperature application in gas turbine was toughened by nanostructured 3 mol% yttria partially-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) incorporation. The fracture toughness of the composite of 90 mol% GZ-10 mol% YSZ (GZ–YSZ) was increased by about 60% relative to the monolithic GZ. Both the GZ and GZ–YSZ composite coatings were deposited by atmospheric plasma spraying on Ni-base superalloys and then thermal-shock tested under the same conditions. The thermal-shock lifetime of GZ–YSZ composite coating was improved, which is believed to be mainly attributed to the enhancement of fracture toughness by the addition of YSZ. In addition, the failure mechanisms of the thermal-shock tested GZ–YSZ composite coatings were discussed.  相似文献

To protect carbon/carbon (C/C) composites from oxidation at high temperature, Y2O3 modified ZrB2-SiC coating was fabricated on C/C composites by atmospheric plasma spraying. The microstructure and chemical composition of the coatings were characterized by SEM, EDS, and XRD. Experiment results showed that the coating with 10 wt% Y2O3 presented a relatively compact surface without evident holes and cracks. No peeling off occurred on the interface between the coating and substrate. The ZSY10 coating underwent oxidation at 1450 °C for 10 h with a mass loss of 5.77%, while that of ZS coating was as high as 16.79%. The existence of Y2O3 played an important role in inhibiting the phase transition of ZrO2, thus avoiding the cracks caused by the volume expansion of the coating. Meanwhile, Y2SiO5 and ZrSiO4 had a similar coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), which could relieve the thermal stress inside the coating. The ceramic phases Y2SiO5, Y2Si2O7 and ZrSiO4 with high thermal stability and low oxygen permeability reduced the volatilization of SiO2.  相似文献

Three different kinds of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) — 8YSZ, 38YSZ and a dual-layered (DL) TBCs with pure Y2O3 on the top of 8YSZ were produced on nickel-based superalloy substrate by air plasma spraying (APS). The Calcium–Magnesium–Aluminum-Silicate (CMAS) corrosion resistance of these three kinds of coatings were researched via burner rig test at 1350 °C for different durations. The microstructures and phase compositions of the coatings were characterized by SEM, EDS and XRD. With the increase of Y content, TBCs exhibit better performance against CMAS corrosion. The corrosion resistance against CMAS of different TBCs in descending was 8YSZ + Y2O3, 38YSZ and 8YSZ, respectively. YSZ diffused from TBCs into the CMAS, and formed Y-lean ZrO2 in TBCs because of the higher diffusion rate and solubility of Y3+ in CMAS than Zr4+. At the same time, 38YSZ/8YSZ + Y2O3 reacts with CAMS to form Ca4Y6(SiO4)6O/Y4·67(SiO4)3O with dense structure, which can prevent further infiltration of CMAS. The failure of 8YSZ coatings occurred at the interface between the ceramic coating and the thermally grown oxide scale (TGO)/bond coating. During the burner rig test, the Y2O3 layer of the DL TBCs peeled off progressively and the 8YSZ layer exposed gradually. DL coatings keep roughly intact and did not meet the failure criteria after 3 h test. 38YSZ coating was partially ablated, the overall thickness of the coating is thinned simultaneously after 2 h. Therefore, 8YSZ + Y2O3 dual-layered coating is expected to be a CMAS corrosion-resistant TBC with practical properties.  相似文献

The nanostructured 8YSZ thermal barrier coatings were deposited by atmospheric plasma spraying onto K417 G nickel-based superalloy with high velocity oxygen fuel sprayed NiCoCrAlYCe bond-coat using as-prepared nanostructured t´-Zr0.9Y0.1O1.95 feedstocks for the first time. The microstructure and mechanical properties of nanostructured and conventional 8YSZ coatings were comparatively investigated systematically. The results revealed that both coatings were composed of t´-Zr0.9Y0.1O1.95 phase and the formation mechanism of t´ phase was elucidated. The nanostructured 8YSZ coatings demonstrated typical bi-modal microstructure, whereas the conventional 8YSZ coatings exhibited mono-modal microstructure. Furthermore, the bi-modal microstructure of nanostructured 8YSZ coatings was analysed by elastic modulus and nanohardness Weibull distribution plots. The high and low slopes in Weibull distribution plots corresponded to unmelted and melted regions of nanostructured 8YSZ coatings, respectively. The fracture toughness and bonding strength of nanostructured coatings were higher than that of conventional 8YSZ coatings. Finally the reasons were explained in detail.  相似文献

The porous ceramic coating as a "brick" layer sprayed by air plasma spraying(APS) and MK resin as a "mud" layer prepared by a high viscosity spray gun were characterized and tested. Three specifications of the "brick-mud" layered ceramic sealing coating were fabricated through the cyclic and orderly deposition of the "brick" layer and "mud" layer, and the thermal cycling performance and failure mechanism of the three new coatings were studied. The results showed that the agglomerated Y2O3 partially stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) particles had porous spherical structures and good sprayability, and the content of the YSZ phase in the prepared "brick" layer was 54.2%. The "mud" layer had good phase stability and was amorphous SiO2 at and below 1100 °C. The fracture toughness of the pure YSZ coating was 2.295 ± 0.135 MPa?m0.5, and which of the “mud” layer was reduced by 72.3%. The thermal cycling life of the conventional coating was only 67.3 times, which of A1, A2 and A3 coatings with 2, 3 and 6 "mud" layers were increased by 32.4%, 124.8% and 88.3%, respectively. In the thermal cycling process, the "weak" layer in the "brick-mud" layered coating led to the redistribution of internal stress and reduced the stress concentration in the top coating (TC)/TGO interface. Moreover, the initiation of microcracks in the "weak" layer, along with the "crack branching" effect and the "crack deflection" effect during the crack propagation process, could consume partial internal stress. Thus, the crack growth rates in the TC coating/TGO interface of the A1, A2 and A3coatings were lower than that of the conventional coating due to the above stress release mechanisms. In addition, the thermal cycling lives of the three new coatings with 2, 3 and 6 "mud" layers were improved to different degrees because of different stress effects.  相似文献

The single-ceramic-layer (SCL) Sm2Zr2O7 (SZO) and double-ceramic-layer (DCL) Sm2Zr2O7 (SZO)/8YSZ thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were deposited by atmospheric plasma spraying on nickel-based superalloy substrates with NiCoCrAlY as the bond coat. The mechanical properties of the coatings were evaluated using bonding strength and thermal cycling lifetime tests. The microstructures and phase compositions of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The results show that both coatings demonstrate a well compact state. The DCL SZO/8YSZ TBCs exhibits an average bonding strength approximately 1.5 times higher when compared to the SCL SZO TBCs. The thermal cycling lifetime of DCL SZO/8YSZ TBCs is 660 cycles, which is much longer than that of SCL 8YSZ TBCs (150 cycles). After 660 thermal cycling, only a little spot spallation appears on the surface of the DCL SZO/8YSZ coating. The excellent mechanical properties of the DCL LZ/8YSZ TBCs can be attributed to the underlying 8YSZ coating with the combinational structures, which contributes to improve the toughness and relieve the thermal mismatch between the ceramic layer and the metallic bond coat at high temperature.  相似文献

The yttria stabilized zirconia (8%YSZ) is widely used to insulate the metallic components of the engine from high temperature and improve the operating temperature of gas turbine engines. With different processing parameters, 8YSZ coatings are prepared by atmospheric plasma spray (APS) and solution precursor plasma spray (SPPS) techniques and the microstructural features and thermodynamics properties are compared. The electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis indicate that the substitutional point defects (Zr0.86Y0.14O1.93) in the 8YSZ APS coatings are considerably higher than the corresponding SPPS coatings. The replacement of Zr4+ by Y3+ disturbs the charge neutrality of the system which might be compensated by the creation of oxygen vacancy. Both the substitutional point defects and the oxygen vacancies are the sources of phonon scattering, modifying the thermal conductivity of the coating. Pores and cracks are qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed in the microstructure of 8YSZ coatings. Strain tolerant and high thermal cycling life coatings are prepared by SPPS due to the existence of vertical cracks in the microstructure. Comparing the thermal insulation properties of the coatings, the APS coating provided lower thermal conductivities relative to the SPPS coatings which might be due to the high concentration of point defects and low concentration of the mixed oxide phase.  相似文献

In this research, the high temperature oxidation behavior, porosity, and microstructure of four abradable thermal barrier coatings (ATBCs) consisting of micro- and nanostructured YSZ, YSZ-10%LaPO4, and YSZ-20%LaPO4 coatings produced by atmospheric (APS) method were evaluated. Results show that the volume percentage of porosity in the coatings containing LaPO4 was higher than the monolithic YSZ sample. It was probably due to less thermal conductivity of LaPO4 phases. Furthermore, the results showed that the amount of the remaining porosity in the composite coatings was higher than the monolithic YSZ at 1000 °C for 120 h. After 120 h isothermal oxidation, the thickness of thermally growth oxide (TGO) layer in composite coatings was higher than that of YSZ coating due to higher porosity and sintering resistance of composite coatings. Finally, the isothermal oxidation resistance of conventional YSZ and nanostructured YSZ coating was investigated.  相似文献

Rare-earth zirconates with a pyrochlore structure have been developed for potential application in thermal barrier coating systems to further improve the performance and durability of gas turbines. The Sm2Zr2O7 (abbreviated as SZ) powder was synthesized by solid state reaction and then deposited by air plasma spraying. The phase stability, microstructure and thermal conductivity of SZ and 8 wt% Y2O3 stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) coatings were investigated. The X-ray diffraction results indicated that the crystal structure of the as-sprayed SZ coatings was defect-fluorite, and after heat treating at 1200 °C for 50 h, it started to transform to pyrochlore, and the content of pyrochlore increased with increase in temperature of the heat treatment. The thermal conductivities of SZ coatings were significantly lower than those of 8YSZ coatings before and after heat treatments, which increased considerably after heat treatments compared to the as-sprayed states for both coatings due to sintering effects.  相似文献

We have developed a novel combination of electrophoretic deposition (EPD), reaction bonding and low temperature sintering techniques for the fabrication of yttria stablised zirconia (YSZ)/alumina composite coatings on Fecralloys. A mixture of ethanol and acetylacetone solvent was found to be an effective medium for YSZ and aluminium particle suspension. With the particle size of YSZ and aluminium being significantly reduced during ball milling. By using the EPD process, uniform green form coatings containing YSZ and aluminium particles were produced on Fecralloys. After oxidation of aluminium at 500°C and sintering at 1200°C, a dense and adherent YSZ/Al2O3 coating was produced. The presence of aluminium in the green form coatings not only contribute to the bonding between the coating and the metal substrate, but also compensate for the volume shrinkage of the coatings during sintering by the volume expansion arising from oxidation of aluminium to alumina.  相似文献

Y2SiO5 is a promising candidate for oxidation-resistant or environmental/thermal barrier coatings (ETBC) due to its excellent high-temperature stability, low elastic modulus and low oxygen permeability. In this paper, we investigated the thermal properties of Y2SiO5 comprehensively, including thermal expansion, thermal diffusivity, heat capacity and thermal conductivity. It is interesting that Y2SiO5 has a very low thermal conductivity (~1.40 W/m K) but a relatively high linear thermal expansion coefficient ((8.36 ± 0.5) × 10?6 K?1), suggesting compatible thermal and mechanical properties to some non-oxide ceramics and nickel superalloys as ETBC layer. Y2SiO5 is also an ideal EBC on YSZ TBC layer due to their close thermal expansion coefficients. As a continuous source of Y3+, it is predicted that Y2SiO5 EBC may prolong the lifetime of zirconia-based TBC by stopping the degradation aroused by the loss of Y stabilizer.  相似文献

LaPO4 powders were produced by a chemical co-precipitation and calcination method. The ceramic exhibited a monazite structure, kept phase stability at 1400?°C for 100?h, and had low thermal conductivity (~ 1.41?W/m?K, 1000?°C). LaPO4/Y2O3 partially stabilized ZrO2 (LaPO4/YSZ) double-ceramic-layer (DCL) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were fabricated by air plasma spray. The LaPO4 coating contained many nanozones. Thermal cycling tests indicated that the spallation of LaPO4/YSZ DCL TBCs initially occurred in the LaPO4 coating. The failure mode was similar to those of many newly developed TBCs, probably due to the low toughness of the ceramics. LaPO4/YSZ DCL TBCs were highly resistant to V2O5 corrosion. Exposed to V2O5 at 700–900?°C for 4?h, La(P,V)O4 formed as the corrosion product, which had little detrimental effect on the coating microstructure. At 1000?°C for 4?h, a minor amount of LaVO4 was generated.  相似文献

In order to improve the oxidation resistance of carbon-carbon (C/C) composites at high temperature, different content of Y2O3 modified ZrSi2/SiC coating for C/C composites were prepared by pack cementation and supersonic atmosphere plasma spraying (SAPS). Microstructure observation and phase identification of the coatings were analyzed by SEM, XRD, DSC/TG and EDS. Experimental results shown that the coating with 10?wt% Y2O3 effectively protected C/C composites from oxidation at 1500?°C in air for 301?h with a mass loss of 0.13% and experienced 18 thermal shock times from room temperature (RT) to 1500?°C. First, Y2O3 could restrain the phase transition of ZrO2 to reduce the formation of thermal stresses of the coating; second, the random distribution of ZrO2 ceramic particles and the formation of ZrSiO4 enhanced the stability of the SiO2; third, the formation of Y2Si2O7 and Y2SiO5 could relieve the thermal mismatch between ZrSi2-Y2O3 outer layer and the inner layer.  相似文献

ZrO2 co-stabilized by CeO2 and TiO2 with stable, nontransformable tetragonal phase has attracted much attention as a potential material for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) applied at temperatures >?1200?°C. In this study, ZrO2 co-stabilized by 15?mol% CeO2 and 5?mol% TiO2 (CTZ) and CTZ/YSZ (zirconia stabilized by 7.4?wt% Y2O3) double-ceramic-layer TBCs were respectively deposited by atmospheric plasma spraying. The microstructures, phase stability and thermo-physical properties of the CTZ coating were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimeter (TG-DSC), laser pulses and dilatometry. Results showed that the CTZ coating with single tetragonal phase was more stable than the YSZ coating during isothermal heat-treatment at 1300?°C. The CTZ coating had a lower thermal conductivity than that of YSZ coating, decreasing from 0.89?W?m?1 K?1 to 0.76?W?m?1 K?1 with increasing temperature from room temperature to 1000?°C. The thermal expansion coefficients were in the range of 8.98?×?10?6 K?1 – 9.88 ×10?6 K?1. Samples were also thermally cycled at 1000?°C and 1100?°C. Failure of the TBCs was mainly a result of the thermal expansion mismatch between CTZ coating and superallloy substrate, the severe coating sintering and the reduction-oxidation of cerium oxide. The thermal durability of the TBCs at 1000?°C can be effectively enhanced by using a YSZ buffer layer, while the thermal cycling life of CTZ/YSZ double-ceramic-layer TBCs at 1100?°C was still unsatisfying. The thermal shock resistance of the CTZ coating should be improved; otherwise the promising properties of CTZ could not be transferred to a well-functioning coating.  相似文献

Forsterite-type Mg2SiO4 was investigated systematically for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications. Results showed that Mg2SiO4 synthesized by solid-state reaction possessed the good phase stability up to 1573 K. The thermal conductivity of Mg2SiO4 at 1273 K was lower ˜20% than that of yttria stabilized zirconia (8YSZ). Mg2SiO4 also presented moderate thermal expansion coefficients, which increased from 8.6 × 10−6 K−1 to 11.3 × 10−6 K−1 (473˜1623 K). Mechanical properties including hardness, fracture toughness, and Young’s modulus of Mg2SiO4 were comparable to those of 8YSZ. The sintering results indicated a promising low-sintering activity of Mg2SiO4. Mg2SiO4 samples were subjected to water quenching test at 1573 K and showed a superior thermal shock resistance compared to 8YSZ. Mg2SiO4 coating with stoichiometric composition was produced by atmospheric plasma spraying. The thermal cycling test result showed that Mg2SiO4 coating had a lifetime more than 830 cycles at 1273 K, which is desirable for TBC applications.  相似文献

Lu2SiO5 is a promising candidate of environmental barrier coatings (EBC) for silicon based ceramics due to its excellent high temperature stability. However, little information is available for the mechanical and thermal properties of Lu2SiO5, which frustrated evaluation of its performances for EBC applications. In this paper, dense Lu2SiO5 ceramic is successfully fabricated from Lu2O3 and SiO2 powders by in situ hot pressing/reaction sintering at 1500 °C. Mechanical properties, including Young's modulus, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, fracture toughness, Vickers hardness, and bending strength are reported for the first time. Lu2SiO5 possesses excellent high temperature mechanical properties up to at least 1300 °C. Thermal stress for the case of Lu2SiO5 or Y2SiO5 coating on silicon bond coat and thermal stress resistance parameter are also estimated based on the experimental mechanical and thermal properties. The present results suggest that Lu2SiO5 has better reliability than Y2SiO5 in harsh thermal environment.  相似文献

In order to explore the difference of CMAS corrosion resistance in high temperature and rainwater environment of single-layer and double-layer thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), and further reveal the mechanism of CMAS corrosion resistance in above environment of double-layer TBCs modified by rare earth, two TBCs were prepared by air plasma spraying, whose ceramic coating were single-layer ZrO2–Y2O3 (YSZ) and double-layer La2Zr2O7(LZ)/YSZ, respectively. Subsequently, CMAS corrosion resistance tests at 1200 °C and rainwater environment of two TBCs were carried out. Results demonstrate that after high temperature CMAS corrosion for the same time, due to phase transformation, the volume of YSZ ceramic coating in single-layer TBCs shrank and surface cracks formed, which would lead to coating failure. When LZ ceramic coating of double-layer TBCs reacted with CMAS, compact apatite phases and fluorite phases formed, the penetration of CMAS into ceramic coating was inhibited effectively. Raman analysis and calculation results show that both of the surface residual stress of ceramic coating in two TBCs were compressive stress, and the residual stress of ceramic coating in double-layer TBCs were smaller than that of single-layer TBCs. Atomic force microscopy of TBCs after CMAS corrosion show that surface of double-layer TBCs was more uniform and compact than that of single-layer TBCs. The electrochemical properties in simulated rainwater of two TBCs after high temperature CMAS corrosion showed that double-layer TBCs possessed higher free corrosion potential, lower corrosion current and higher polarization resistance than those of single-layer TBCs. Consequently, the presence of LZ ceramic coating effectively improved CMAS corrosion resistance in high temperature and rainwater environment of double-layer TBCs.  相似文献

In this study, we demonstrate a novel environmental barrier coating processed from polymer-derived ceramics (PDCs) with homogeneously distributed sub-micrometer Y2O3 as the filler. Under suitable conditions, dense and crack-free coatings can be achieved for all the designed compositions with the volumetric content of Y2O3 varied from 45 to 93 vol%. To process the PDC SiC–Y2O3 composite coatings, Y2O3 particles and SiC liquid precursor were uniformly dispersed in hexane and then dip-coated on SiC substrates. After cross-linking at 250°C and heat-treated at 900°C in argon, dense and crack-free PDC SiC–Y2O3 composite coatings were formed. The effect of coating thickness and heat-treatment temperature on the formation of cracks due to constrained pyrolysis was studied. The critical thickness for realizing crack-free coatings of three compositions (i.e., 93, 77, and 45 vol% Y2O3) was studied for heat treatment from 1000 to 1300°C using atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscopy. As heat-treatment temperature increases, the critical coating thickness decreases for the same coating compositions due to enhanced shrinkage at higher temperature. With higher Y2O3 content, the critical thickness of the coating increased. The inert Y2O3 particles reduce the amount of polymer leading to reduction in the overall constrained shrinkage of the coating during heat treatment.  相似文献
