The SiCf/SiC composites have been manufactured by a hybrid route combining chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) and precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) techniques. A relatively low deposition rate of CVI SiC matrix is favored ascribing to that its rapid deposition tends to cause a ‘surface sealing’ effect, which generates plenty of closed pores and severely damages the microstructural homogeneity of final composites. For a given fiber preform, there exists an optimized value of CVI SiC matrix to be introduced, at which the flexural strength of resultant composites reaches a peak value, which is almost twice of that for composites manufactured from the single PIP or CVI route. Further, this optimized CVI SiC amount is unveiled to be determined by a critical thickness t0, which relates to the average fiber distance in fiber preforms. While the deposited SiC thickness on fibers exceeds t0, closed pores will be generated, hence damaging the microstructural homogeneity of final composites. By applying an optimized CVI SiC deposition rate and amount, the prepared SiCf/SiC composites exhibit increased densities, reduced porosity, superior mechanical properties, increased microstructural homogeneity and thus reduced mechanical property deviations, suggesting a hybrid CVI and PIP route is a promising technique to manufacture SiCf/SiC composites for industrial applications.  相似文献

3D SiCf/BN–SiC/SiBCN composites were fabricated via precursor impregnation and polymer infiltration pyrolysis (PIP). Oxidation behavior of the composites heated in air at 800 °C, 1000 °C and 1200 °C for 50 h was investigated. Following the oxidation treatment, it was found that the bending strength of the composites at different oxidation temperatures was degraded. The weight loss of the composites decreased gradually over the range of oxidation times of 1–50 h. In order to clarify the oxidation mechanism of the composites, reconstructed images, microstructures, phase compositions, the oxide layer formed on the composites and main chemical reactions were all analyzed. It was revealed that the degradation in the fracture strength of the composites was closely related to the oxidation of SiBCN matrix and BN-SiC interphase, whereas there was no signs of oxidation products about SiC fiber, which indicated that SiC fiber could be protected from oxygen by SiBCN matrix at 800?1200 °C in air.  相似文献

A fine study of the interfacial part in the silicon carbide fiber (SiCf) reinforced silicon carbide (SiC) composites was conducted by transmission electron microscopy. The boron nitride (BN) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were progressively coated on the SiCf by chemical vapor deposition method to form a hierarchical structure. Three composites with different interfaces, SiCf–CNTs/SiC, SiCf@BN/SiC, and SiCf@BN–CNTs/SiC, were fabricated by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis method. The interfaces and microstructures of the three composites were carefully characterized to investigate the improvement mechanism of strength and toughness. The results showed that BN could protect the surface of SiCf from corrosion and oxidation so that improved the possibility of debonding and pullout. CNTs could avoid the propagation of cracks in the composites so that improved the damage resistance of the matrix. The synergistic reinforcement brought by BN and CNTs interfaces made the SiCf@BN–CNTs/SiC composites with a tensile fracture strength as high as 359 MPa, with an improvement of 23% compared to that of SiCf@BN/SiC.  相似文献

SiC fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites (SiCf-CMCs) have been widely used as structural-functional materials at high temperatures. However, their mechanical and electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing properties will deteriorate due to high-temperature oxidation. Therefore, unique sandwich structure, consisting of inner Si3N4 impedance layer, middle porous SiOC loss layer and dense oxidation-resistant Si3N4 layer, was proposed to enhance multiple material properties in oxidation environment. Herein, SiCf/Si3N4–SiOC–Si3N4 composites was fabricated by alternating chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) and polymer infiltration pyrolysis (PIP) methods. For these composites, SiC fiber is used as both reinforcing phase and electromagnetic (EM) absorber. CVI Si3N4 matrix was distributed in inner and outer layer of the SiCf/Si3N4–SiOC–Si3N4 composites. While inner Si3N4 layer between BN interphase and SiOC matrix forms nano-heterogeneous interphase to consume EM energy and enhance mechanical properties of composites, outer dense and oxidation-resistant CVI Si3N4 coating serves to maintain properties. PIP SiOC matrix exhibits porous structure that can effectively deflect cracks and achieve multiple scattering of EMW. SiCf/Si3N4–SiOC–Si3N4 composites with sandwich structure demonstrated excellent EMW absorbing properties and mechanical performance in high-temperature oxidation environments.  相似文献

SiC nanowires (SiCnws) modified SiCf/HfC-SiC composites were prepared by precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) and chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) methods. The microstructure, flexural strengths, impact and impact-ablation tests of the composites with and without SiCnws were investigated. The results showed that after introducing SiCnws, not only the retention rate of HfC ceramic produced by PIP was increased obviously, but also the fracture displacement of the modified composites was reduced due to the enhancement effect of SiCnws at interface between SiC fiber and matrix. After impact and impact-ablation, the strength retention of SiCnws modified composites was 91.6 % and 69.1 % respectively, higher than that of the composites without SiCnws (85.2 % and 54.8 %). As the impact resistance of the modified composites was improved by the pull-out and bridging of SiCnws, the ablation resistance of the impacted composites was enhanced as well.  相似文献

In this study, SiC nanowires (SiCNWS) were grown in situ on the surface of PyC interface through chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) to improve the mechanical characteristics and thermal conductivity of three-dimensional SiCf/SiC composites fabricated via precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP). The effect of SiCNWS on the properties of the obtained composites was investigated by comparing them with conventional SiCf/PyC/SiC composites. After the deposition of SiCNWS, the flexural strength of the SiCf/SiC composites was found to increase by 46 %, and the thermal conductivity showed an obvious increase at 25?1000 °C. The energy release of the composites in the damage evolution process was analysed by acoustic emission. The results indicated that the damage evolution process was delayed owing to the decrease in porosity, the crack deflection and bridging of the SiCNWS. Furthermore, the excellent thermal conductivity was attributed to the thermally conductive pathways formed by the SiCNWS in the dense structure.  相似文献

Unidirectional (UD) silicon carbide (SiC) fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (UD SiCf/SiC) composites with CVI BN interphase were fabricated by polymer infiltration-pyrolysis (PIP) process. The effects of the anisotropic distribution of SiC fibers on the mechanical properties, thermophysical properties and electromagnetic properties of UD SiCf/SiC composites in different directions were studied. In the direction parallel to the axial direction of SiC fibers, SiC fibers bear the load and BN interphase ensures the interface debonding, so the flexural strength and the fracture toughness of the UD SiCf/SiC composites are 813.0 ± 32.4 MPa and 26.1 ± 2.9 MPa·m1/2, respectively. In the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of SiC fibers, SiC fibers cannot bear the load and the low interfacial bonding strengths between SiC fiber/BN interphase (F/I) and BN interphase/SiC matrix (I/M) both decrease the matrix cracking stress, so the corresponding values are 36.6 ± 6.9 MPa and 0.9 ± 0.5 MPa?m1/2, respectively. The thermal expansion behaviors of UD SiCf/SiC composites are similar to those of SiC fibers in the direction parallel to the axial direction of SiC fibers, and are similiar to those of SiC matrix in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of SiC fibers. The total electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EM SET) of UD SiCf/SiC composites attains 32 dB and 29 dB when the axial direction of SiC fibers is perpendicular and parallel to the electric field direction, respectively. The difference of conductivity in different directions is the main reason causing the different SET. And the dominant electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding mechanism is absorption for both studied directions.  相似文献

Alternating pyrolytic carbon/boron nitride (PyC/BN)n multilayer coatings were applied to the KD–II silicon carbide (SiC) fibres by chemical vapour deposition technique to fabricate continuous SiC fibre-reinforced SiC matrix (SiCf/SiC) composites with improved flexural strength and fracture toughness. Three-dimensional SiCf/SiC composites with different interfaces were fabricated by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis process. The microstructure of the coating was characterised by scanning electron microscopy, X–photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The interfacial shear strength was determined by the single-fibre push-out test. Single-edge notched beam (SENB) test and three-point bending test were used to evaluate the influence of multilayer interfaces on the mechanical properties of SiCf/SiC composites. The results indicated that the (PyC/BN)n multilayer interface led to optimum flexural strength and fracture toughness of 566.0?MPa and 21.5?MPa?m1/2, respectively, thus the fracture toughness of the composites was significantly improved.  相似文献

SiC/SiC composites prepared by liquid silicon infiltration (LSI) have the advantages of high densification, matrix cracking stress and ultimate tensile strength, but the toughness is usually insufficient. Relieving the residual microstress in fiber and interphase, dissipating crack propagation energy, and improving the crystallization degree of interphase can effectively increase the toughness of the composites. In this work, a special SiC particles and C (SiCP +C) double-cladding layer is designed and prepared via the infiltration of SiCP slurry and chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) of C in the porous SiC/SiC composites prepared by CVI. After LSI, the SiC generated by the reaction of C with molten Si combines with the SiCP to form a layered structure matrix, which can effectually relieve residual microstress in fiber and interphase and dissipate crack propagation energy. The crystallization degree of BN interphase is increased under the effects of C-Si reaction exotherm. The as-received SiC/SiC composites possess a density of 2.64 g/cm3 and a porosity of 6.1%. The flexural strength of the SiC/SiC composites with layered structure matrix and highly crystalline BN interphase is 577 MPa, and the fracture toughness reaches up to 37 MPa·m1/2. The microstructure and properties of four groups of SiC/SiC composites prepared by different processes are also investigated and compared to demonstrate the effectiveness of the SiCP +C double-cladding layer design, which offers a strategy for developing the SiC/SiC composites with high performance.  相似文献

In order to improve the anti-oxidation performance of C/SiC composites at high temperature, C/SiC composites should be modified by self-healing components. SiBCN ceramic is an ideal self-healing component because of excellent oxidation resistance and thermal stability. C/SiC composites were modified by PDC SiBCN ceramic (C/SiC-SiBCN) by using CVI combined with polymer infiltration and on-line pyrolysis (PI-OP). The oxidation behaviors of C/SiC composites fabricated by CVI method and C/SiC-SiBCN composites fabricated by CVI + PI-OP method and CVI + PIP method at different temperatures in air were compared. The results showed that the strength retention ratios of the composites fabricated by the three methods decreased with the increase of temperature. Compared with the samples fabricated by the other two methods, the weight loss of the samples fabricated by CVI + PI-OP method was greater, but the strength retention ratio was higher.  相似文献

In this study, the amorphous C, ZrB2, and BN single-layer coatings as well as C/BN, C/ZrB2, ZrB2/BN, and C/ZrB2/BN composite coatings were prepared on SiC fibers (SiCf) by an in situ synthesis and solution impregnation–pyrolysis method. Subsequently, SiCf/SiBCN composites were fabricated by hot-pressing sintering at 1900℃/60 MPa/30 min to explore the influence of different coatings on the microstructure and mechanical performance of resulting composites. After the preparation of single-layer-coated SiCf, the SiCf(BN) or SiCf(ZrB2) tended to be overlapped with each other, whereas the dispersion of amorphous C–coated SiCf was satisfying. Besides, some uneven areas and attached particles have appeared on fiber surfaces of the SiCf(BN) or SiCf(ZrB2), whereas smooth and dense surfaces of amorphous C–coated SiCf were observed. Because the uniformity of ZrB2 coatings can be partially damaged by the subsequent coating process of BN, the composite coatings of ZrB2/BN and C/ZrB2/BN were thereby not suitable for strengthening SiBCN matrix. The SiCf/SiBCN composites with C/ZrB2 coatings have desirable comprehensive mechanical properties. Nevertheless, the conventional toughening mechanisms such as fiber pull-out and bridging, and crack deflection are not available for these composites because the serious crystallization of SiCf leading to great strength loss, resulting in catastrophic brittle fracture.  相似文献

2D KD-1 SiC fiber fabrics were employed to fabricate SiCf/SiC composites by an improved polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process, combined with cold isostatic pressing (CIP). The effect of CIP process on the microstructure, mechanical and dielectric properties of SiCf/SiC composites was investigated. The infiltration efficiency was remarkably improved with the introduction of CIP process. Compared to vacuum infiltration, the CIP process can effectively increase the infiltrated precursor content and decrease the porosity resulting in a dense matrix. Thus SiCf/SiC composites with high density of 2.11 g cm−3 and low porosity of 11.3% were obtained at 100 MPa CIP pressure, together with an increase of the flexural strength of the composites from 89 MPa to 213 MPa. Real part (ε′) and the imaginary part (ε″) of complex permittivity of SiCf/SiC composites increase and vary from 11.7-i9.7 to 15.0-i12.8 when the CIP pressure reaches 100 MPa.  相似文献

SiC fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (SiCf/SiC) composites are promising materials for high-temperature structural applications. In this study, KD-II SiC fiber bundles with a C/Si ratio of approximately 1.25 and an oxygen amount of 2.53%, were used as reinforcement. PyC interphase, PyC-SiC co-deposition interphase I and II, with different thicknesses, and SiC matrix were deposited into the SiC fiber bundles by using chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) to form SiCf/SiC mini composites. When the thickness of the interphase is approximately 1000 nm, the ultimate tensile stress and strain of SiCf/SiC mini composites with PyC-SiC co-deposition interphase I can reach 1120.0 MPa and 0.72%, respectively, which are significantly higher than those of SiCf/SiC mini composites with a PyC interphase (740.0 MPa, 0.87%) and PyC-SiC co-deposition interphase II (645.0 MPa, 0.54%). The effect of thicknesses and types of interphase on tensile fracture behavior of mini composites and then the fracture mechanism are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Two-dimensional C/ZrC–SiC composites were fabricated by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process combined with a modified polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) method. Two kinds of ZrC slurries (ZrC aqueous slurry and ZrC/polycarbosilane slurry) were employed to densify composites before the PIP process. The as-produced C/ZrC–SiC composites exhibited better mechanical properties than the C/SiC composites densified only by CVI and PIP process. Structural evolution for C/ZrC–SiC composites treated in the range 1200–1800 °C mainly consisted of the change of SiC whiskers and the decomposition of polymer derived ceramic.  相似文献

SiCf/SiC composites with BN interface were prepared through isothermal-isobaric chemical vapour infiltration process. Room temperature mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural, inter-laminar shear strength and fracture toughness (KIC) were studied for the composites. The tensile strength of the SiCf/SiC composites with stabilised BN interface was almost 3.5 times higher than that of SiCf/SiC composites with un-stabilised BN interphase. The fracture toughness is similarly enhanced to 23 MPa m1/2 by stabilisation treatment. Fibre push-through test results showed that the interfacial bond strength between fibre and matrix for the composite with un-stabilised BN interface was too strong (>48 MPa) and it has been modified to a weaker bond (10 MPa) due to intermediate heat treatment. In the case of composite in which BN interface was subjected to thermal treatment soon after the interface coating, the interfacial bond strength between fibre and matrix was relatively stronger (29 MPa) and facilitated limited fibre pull-out.  相似文献

SiCf/PyC/SiC and SiCf/BN/SiC mini-composites comprising single tow SiC fibre-reinforced SiC with chemical vapor deposited PyC or BN interface layers are fabricated. The microstructure evolutions of the mini-composite samples as the oxidation temperature increases (oxidation at 1000, 1200, 1400, and 1600?°C in air for 2?h) are observed by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction characterization methods. The damage evolution for each component of the as-fabricated SiCf/SiC composites (SiC fibre, PyC/BN interface, SiC matrix, and mesophase) is mapped as a three-dimensional (3D) image and quantified with X-ray computed tomography. The mechanical performance of the composites is investigated via tensile tests.The results reveal that tensile failure occurs after the delamination and fibre pull-out in the SiCf/PyC/SiC composites due to the volatilization of the PyC interface at high temperatures in the air environment. Meanwhile, the gaps between the fibres and matrix lead to rapid oxidation and crack propagation from the SiC matrix to SiC fibre, resulting in the failure of the SiCf/PyC/SiC composites as the oxidation temperature increases to 1600?°C. On the other hand, the oxidation products of B2O3 molten compounds (reacted from the BN interface) fill up the fracture, cracks, and voids in the SiC matrix, providing excellent strength retention at elevated oxidation temperatures. Moreover, under the protection of B2O3, the SiCf/BN/SiC mini-composites show a nearly intact microstructure of the SiC fibre, a low void growth rate from the matrix to fibre, and inhibition of new void formation and the SiO2 grain growth from room to high temperatures. This work provides guidance for predicting the service life of SiCf/PyC/SiC and SiCf/BN/SiC composite materials, and is fundamental for establishing multiscale damage models on a local scale.  相似文献

In this paper, porous SiCf/SiC composites are prepared by chemical vapor infiltration of SiC matrix on stitched fibrous preforms with different fabrics laminate structure. The microstructure of the fibrous preforms before and after infiltration of SiC matrix and the permeability and the regeneration efficiency of the porous SiCf/SiC composites with different laminate structure have been determined. Experimental results show that the porous SiCf/SiC composites with twill fabrics laminate structure exhibits a higher permeability with a higher volume porosity and mean pore diameter. In comparing the regeneration ability of two types laminate structure filter medium, as expected, the twill fabrics laminate structure exhibits a better regeneration efficiency than the plain fabrics laminate structure due to its higher air permeability.  相似文献

In this work, the needled carbon fiber preforms were used to make seven groups of carbon/carbon composite billets with different matrix carbon contents by controlling the processing time of chemical vapor infiltration (CVI). Cf/C–SiC composites were prepared by infiltration of SiC into these C/C composites billets using polycarbosilane (PCS) through precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP). After oxy-acetylene torch testing (heat flux of 4.2 MW/m2) for 200s, 300s and 400s, respectively, it revealed that the anti-ablation properties of the Cf/C–SiC composite samples were enhanced by a higher content of SiC matrix. Additionally, specimens bearing longer duration tests showed a trend of lower average ablation rates. The lowest linear ablation rate is 0.008 mm/s and the mass ablation rate is 0.0019 g/s for those high SiC content samples tested for 400s. The SEM images of the tested samples showed the mechanism and the non-linear process of ablation resistance progression.  相似文献

Electrospun unidirectional SiC fibers reinforced SiCf/SiC composites (e-SiCf/SiC) were prepared with ∼10% volume fraction by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process. Pyrolysis temperature was varied to investigate the changes in microstructures, mechanical, thermal, and dielectric properties of e-SiCf/SiC composites. The composites prepared at 1100 °C exhibit the highest flexural strength of 286.0 ± 33.9 MPa, then reduced at 1300 °C, mainly due to the degradation of electrospun SiC fibers, increased porosity, and reaction-controlled interfacial bonding. The thermal conductivity of e-SiCf/SiC prepared at 1300 °C reached 2.663 W/(m∙K). The dielectric properties of e-SiCf/SiC composites were also investigated and the complex permittivities increase with raising pyrolysis temperature. The e-SiCf/SiC composites prepared at 1300 °C exhibited EMI shielding effectiveness exceeding 24 dB over the whole X band. The electrospun SiC fibers reinforced SiCf/SiC composites can serve as a potential material for structural components and EMI shielding applications in the future.  相似文献
