To realize online multiaxial fatigue damage assessment for the mechanical components in service, an online multiaxial cycle counting method is proposed coupled with the segment processing technique and Wang‐Brow's relative equivalent strain concept. Meanwhile, considering all the stress and strain components, which contribute to the fatigue damage on the critical plane, a multiaxial fatigue damage model without any weight coefficients is also proposed in an equivalent form of shear strain energy. Then, an online fatigue damage evaluation method for multiaxial random loading is developed by combining with the proposed damage model and online cycle counting method. The experimental results showed that the proposed online cycle counting method can be successfully applied to the calculation of multiaxial fatigue damage under random loading. Moreover, the proposed online multiaxial fatigue damage evaluation method can provide satisfactory predictions. 相似文献

A hybrid frequency–time domain method for predicting multiaxial fatigue life under random loading is developed on the basis of combination of the frequency domain and time domain analysis. The critical damage point of the structure is determined by the frequency domain equivalent stress method. Then, the fatigue life prediction is made in time domain by generating random load‐time histories from the power spectral density of the critical point. The method is validated with the random vibration fatigue test of 7075‐T6 aluminium alloy. It has been shown that the results of fatigue life calculated by hybrid method are well correlated with the experiment. 相似文献

A study of the use of deterministic fatigue life prediction methods for a set of multiaxial experimental data on broad‐band random loading applied to a tubular specimen with a hole is presented. There is a discussion of the applicability of stress‐based predictions and strain‐based predictions based on the linear cumulative rule under current conditions. The only feasible criteria finally chosen for the application are strain‐based methods for analysing the fatigue life until fatigue crack initiation. Several methods differing in the damage parameter and application of the mean stress effect (MSE) are evaluated. The MSE is optimised so that a comparison of the predicted and experimental data have the least scatter and similar mean values. The results are presented, and the most promising method (by Erdogan and Roberts) has been selected. The positive properties of Walker mean stress correction and the failure of SWT and Landgraf methods are commented on. 相似文献

A curvilinear integral method for multiaxial fatigue life computing under non-proportional, arbitrary or random stressing 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Some popular concepts for reducing three variable stress components σx(t), σy(t), τxy(t) to one equivalent amplitude spectrum, and the use of the linear damage accumulation hypothesis, have been evaluated as not fully correct when these components vary non-proportionally and arbitrarily. A different approach is suggested: computing damage accumulation by means of an integral directly on the non-radial arbitrary path, called the ‘trajectory’, described in the σx−σy plane when τxy(t) = 0, in the σx−τxy plane when σy(t) = 0, or in a special coordinate space where this trajectory is invariant of stress directions x, y. If the trajectory is random, it may be replaced by a statistical two-dimensional density of distribution. The integrand, called the R-function, is derived from various S−N fatigue curves under different determined loadings. Thus the traditional S−N function is replaced by the R-function for direct damage summation with differential analysis, which allows the loading to be arbitrary (non-cyclic, multiaxial and non-proportional). The method works by means of computer programs and is applicable to real structures. 相似文献

Fatigue life prediction of vulcanized natural rubber under proportional and non-proportional loading

To investigate the multiaxial fatigue properties of vulcanized natural rubber (NR), a series of tests including both proportional and non-proportional loading paths on small specimens were performed. The existing fatigue life prediction approaches are evaluated with life data obtained in the tests. It is shown that the equivalent strain approach presents a good prediction of the fatigue life although it has a certain shortcoming. Compared with the strain energy density (SED) model, the cracking energy density (CED) model represents the portion of SED that is available to be released by virtue of crack growth on a given material plane, so it gives better results in the life prediction. Some of the approaches based on critical plane which are widely used for metal fatigue are also tested in this paper, and the results show that the Chen-Xu-Huang (CXH) model gives a better prediction, compared with the Smith-Watson-Topper (SWT) and Wang–Brown (WB) model. A modified Fatemi–Socie's model has also been introduced, and the results show that the modified model can be used to predict the fatigue life of rubber material well. 相似文献

A critical plane-strain energy density criterion for multiaxial low-cycle fatigue life under non-proportional loading 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2

A series of multiaxial low-cycle fatigue experiments was performed on 45 steel under non-proportional loading. The present evaluations of multiaxial low-cycle fatigue life were systematically analysed. A combined energy density and critical plane concept is proposed that considers different failure mechanisms for a shear-type failure and a tensile-type failure, and from which different damage parameters for the critical plane-strain energy density are proposed. For tensile-type failures in material 45 steel and shear-type failures in material 42CrMo steel, the new damage parameters permit a good prediction for multiaxial low-cycle fatigue failure under non-proportional loading. The currently used critical plane models are a special and simple form of the new model. 相似文献

Fatigue crack path prediction and crack arrest are very important for structural safety. In real engineering structures, there are many factors influencing the fatigue crack paths, such as the material type (microstructure), structural geometry and loading path, etc. In this paper, both experimental and numerical methods are applied to study the effects of loading path on crack orientations. Experiments were conducted on a biaxial testing machine, using specimens made of two steels: 42CrMo4 and CK45 (equivalent to AISI 1045), with six different biaxial loading paths. Fractographical analyses of the plane of the stage I crack propagation were carried out and the crack orientations were measured using optical microscopy. The multiaxial fatigue models, such as the critical plane models and also the energy‐based critical plane models, were applied for predicting the orientation of the critical plane. Comparisons of the predicted orientation of the damage plane with the experimental observations show that the shear‐based multiaxial fatigue models provide good predictions for stage I crack growth for the ductile materials studied in this paper. 相似文献

A computerized procedure is presented and evaluated for application examples of long-life fatigue analyses of metallic materials under complex multiaxial loading. The method is based on the stress invariants and uses the minimum circumscribed ellipse approach for evaluating the effective shear stress amplitude under complex multiaxial loading. The applicability of the procedure for handling non-proportional loading is examined through typical examples such as combined normal/shear stresses and combined bi-axial normal stresses with complex stress time histories. The effects of phase shift angles, frequency ratios and waveforms on fatigue endurance were re-analysed and compared with available experimental results from the literature. The comparison shows that the presented procedure based on stress invariants is a potential conservative engineering approach, very suitable for fast fatigue evaluation in the integrated computer aided fatigue design. 相似文献

In order to assess the fatigue behaviour of structural components under a complex (cyclic or random) multiaxial stress history, methods based on damage mechanics concepts can be employed. In this paper, a model for fatigue damage evaluation in the case of an arbitrary multiaxial loading history is proposed by using an endurance function which allows us to determine the damage accumulation up to the final failure of the material. By introducing an evolution equation for the endurance function, the final collapse can be assumed to occur when the damage D is complete, that is when D reaches the unity. The parameters of this model, which adopts the stress invariants and the deviatoric stress invariants to quantify the damage phenomenon, are determined through a Genetic Algorithm once experimental data on the fatigue behaviour of the material being examined are known for some complex stress histories. With respect to traditional approaches to multiaxial fatigue assessment, the proposed model presents the following advantages: (1) the evaluation of a critical plane is not necessary; (2) no cycle counting algorithm to determine the fatigue life is required, because it considers the progressive damage process during the fatigue load history; (3) the model can be applied to any kind of stress history (uniaxial cyclic loading, multiaxial in‐phase or out‐of‐phase cyclic loading, uniaxial or multiaxial random loading). 相似文献

The present studies are aimed at validation of a newly developed critical plane model with respect to large variety of engineering materials used for different applications. This newly developed model has been recently reported by present authors. To strengthen general applicability of this model, multiaxial test database consisting of a wide variety of multiaxial loading paths have been considered. The strain paths include pure axial, pure torsion, in‐phase axial‐torsion, out‐of‐phase axial‐torsion with phase shift angles varying from 30° to 180° having sine/trapezoidal/triangular strain waveforms, with/without mean axial/shear strains and asynchronous axial‐torsion strain paths of different frequency ratios etc. The materials covered in present study are mainly categorized as ferrous and nonferrous alloys. In ferrous alloy category, material grades from plain carbon steel (mild steel, 16MnR, SA333 Gr. 6, E235 and E355), low‐alloy steel (1Cr‐Mo‐V and S460 N) and austenitic stainless steel (SS304, SS316L and SS347) have been considered. In nonferrous alloy category, aluminium alloys (2024T3‐Al, 7075T651‐Al, and PA38‐T6‐Al), titanium (pure titanium and TC4 alloy), cobalt base super‐alloy (Haynes 188), and nickel alloy (Inconel‐718) have been considered. The predicted and test fatigue lives are found in good agreement for all these materials and complex multiaxial loading paths. 相似文献

In this paper, the shortcomings of the Smith–Watson–Topper (SWT) damage parameter are analysed on the basis of the critical plane concept. It is found that the SWT model usually overestimates the fatigue lives of materials since it only takes into account the fatigue damage caused by the tensile components. To solve this problem, Chen et al. (CXH) modified the SWT model through considering the shear components. However, there are at least two problems present in CXH model: (1) the mean stress is not considered and (2) the different influence of the normal and shear components on fatigue life is not included. Besides, experimental validations show that the modification by Chen et al. usually leads to conservative fatigue life predictions during non‐proportional loading. In order to overcome the shortcomings of SWT and CXH models, a damage parameter as the effective strain energy density (ESED) is proposed. Experimental validations by using eight kinds of materials show that the ESED model can give satisfactory fatigue life predictions under the non‐proportional loading. 相似文献

The correlation between components of the random stress tensor and its influence on the calculated fatigue life of machine elements were analysed. Three covariance matrices of components of biaxial stress state were considered. They were determined from measurements of strains in an element of a vibrating screen for aggregate, in the back wall of a bus, and in a welded element of excavator fittings. Calculations were made according to four criteria of multiaxial random fatigue. Cycles were counted with the rainflow method, and damage was cumulated with the Palmgren-Miner hypothesis. It was found that convariances of random stress state components strongly influence the calculated fatigue life. 相似文献

Fatigue tests were conducted on S45C steel under fully reversed strain control conditions with axial/torsional ( at ) and torsional/axial ( ta ) loading sequences. The linear damage value (n1/N1+n2/N2) was found to depend on the sequence of loading mode ( at or ta ), sequence of strain amplitude (low/high or high/low) and life fraction spent in the first loading. In general, at loading yields larger damage values than ta loading and the low–high sequence of equivalent strain leads to larger damage values than the high–low sequence. The material exhibits cyclic softening under axial cyclic strain. Cyclic hardening occurs in the torsion part of ta loading, which elevates the axial stress in the subsequent loading, causing more damage than in pure axial fatigue at the same strain amplitude. Fatigue life is predicted based on the linear damage rule, the double linear damage rule, the damage curve approach and the plastic work model of Morrow. Results show that overly conservative lives are obtained by these models for at loading while overestimation of life is more likely for ta loading. A modified damage curve method is proposed to account for the load sequence effect, for which predicted lives are found to lie in the factor‐2 scatter band from experimental lives. 相似文献

In this paper generalized criteria of multiaxial random fatigue based on stress, strain and strain energy density parameters in the critical plane have been discussed. The proposed criteria reduce multiaxial state of stress to the equivalent uniaxial tension–compression or alternating bending. Relations between the coefficients occurring in the considered criteria have been derived. Thus, it is possible to take into account fatigue properties of materials under simple loading states during determination of the multiaxial fatigue life. Presented models have successfully correlated fatigue lives of cast iron GGG40 and steel 18G2A specimens under constant amplitude in‐phase and out‐of‐phase loadings including different frequencies. 相似文献

Constant-amplitude in-phase and 90° out-of-phase axial-torsional fatigue tests were conducted on tubular specimens made from a medium-carbon steel with three hardness levels obtained from normalizing, quenching and tempering and induction hardening to find the effect of hardness on multiaxial fatigue behaviour. In addition, the same loadings were applied on the normalized solid specimens to investigate the effect of specimen geometry on multiaxial fatigue life. Similar fatigue life variation as a function of hardness was found for in-phase and out-of-phase loadings, with higher ductility beneficial in low-cycle fatigue (LCF) and higher strength beneficial in high-cycle fatigue (HCF). Multiaxial fatigue data were satisfactorily correlated for all hardness levels with the Fatemi–Socie parameter. Furthermore, in order to predict multiaxial fatigue life of steels in the absence of any fatigue data, the Roessle–Fatemi hardness method was used. Multiaxial fatigue lives were predicted fairly accurately using the Fatemi–Socie multiaxial model based on only the hardness level of the material. The applicability of the prediction method based on hardness was also examined for Inconel 718 and a stainless steel under a wide range of loading conditions. The great majority of the observed fatigue lives were found to be in good agreement with predicted lives. 相似文献

In order to study the use of a local approach to predict crack‐initiation life on notches in mechanical components under multiaxial fatigue conditions, the study of the local cyclic elasto‐plastic behaviour and the selection of an appropriate multiaxial fatigue model are essential steps in fatigue‐life prediction. The evolution of stress–strain fields from the initial state to the stabilized state depends on the material type, loading amplitude and loading paths. A series of biaxial tension–compression tests with static or cyclic torsion were carried out on a biaxial servo‐hydraulic testing machine. Specimens were made of an alloy steel 42CrMo4 quenched and tempered. The shear stress relaxations of the cyclic tension–compression with a steady torsion angle were observed for various loading levels. Finite element analyses were used to simulate the cyclic behaviour and good agreement was found. Based on the local stabilized cyclic elastic–plastic stress–strain responses, the strain‐based multiaxial fatigue damage parameters were applied and correlated with the experimentally obtained lives. As a comparison, a stress‐invariant‐based approach with the minimum circumscribed ellipse (MCE) approach for evaluating the effective shear stress amplitude was also applied for fatigue life prediction. The comparison showed that both the equivalent strain range and the stress‐invariant parameter with non‐proportional factors correlated well with the experimental results obtained in this study. 相似文献

A new creep–fatigue damage cumulative model is proposed under multiaxial thermomechanical random loading, in which the damage at high temperature can be divided into the pure fatigue damage and the equivalent fatigue damage from creep. During the damage accumulation process, the elementary percentage of the equivalent fatigue damage increment is proportional to that of the creep damage increment, and the creep damage is converted to the equivalent fatigue damage. Moreover, combined with a multiaxial cyclic counting method, a life prediction method is developed based on the proposed creep–fatigue damage cumulative model. In the developed life prediction method, the effects of nonproportional hardening on the fatigue and creep damages are considered, and the influence of mean stress on damage is also taken into account. The thermomechanical fatigue experimental data for thin‐walled tubular specimen of superalloy GH4169 under multiaxial constant amplitude and variable amplitude loadings were used to verify the proposed model. The results showed that the proposed method can obtain satisfactory life prediction results. 相似文献

This paper discusses low‐cycle fatigue characteristics of 316L stainless steel under proportional and nonproportional loadings. Tension–torsion multiaxial low‐cycle fatigue tests were performed using five strain paths. Additional hardening was observed under nonproportional loadings and was more significant in tests with larger nonproportionality. Mises equivalent strain, Smith–Watson–Topper, Fatemi–Socie, Kandil–Brown–Miller and nonproportional strain parameters were applied to the experimental data to evaluate the multiaxial low‐cycle fatigue damage. The applicability of the damage laws to practical design was discussed. 相似文献

High‐cycle fatigue life prediction methods based on different critical planes, including the maximum shear stress (MSS) plane, the weighted average shear stress plane and the Maximum Variance shear stress plane, are compared by two multiaxial cycle counting methods, i.e. the main and auxiliary channels (MAC) counting and the relative equivalent stress counting. A modified damage model is used to calculate the multiaxial fatigue damage. Compared with the experimental lives for 7075‐T651 aluminium alloy, the predicted results show that the MSS method together with MAC counting is suitable for the multiaxial fatigue life prediction. 相似文献
