Abstract

Linking full-text proprietary databases with Google Scholar revealed three significant limitations in terms of precision (no subject heading search), transparency (no listing of information sources), and visibility (Google Scholar details are hard to find). Google Scholar is not a “one stop shopping” search engine that retrieves all relevant data from a library's licensed content. Despite these shortcomings, Google Scholar is a worthwhile search option for students, which may steer them away from Web resources, and towards the library's catalog and databases.

基于WSCN的工业废气、油烟智能净化与监测系统的研制

此文设计并实现了基于WSCN的工业废气、油烟智能净化与监测系统。本系统框架总体分为三层,终端层在每个净化器内嵌入智能节点,采用飞思卡尔的MKW01Z128(简称KW01)作为控制芯片,负责信息状态采集与Zigbee通信;中间层为主控器节点,采用K60作为主控芯片,同时使用KW01芯片作为通信芯片,实现与终端节点的无线数据传输;服务器层作为数据处理与存储的中心,实现了安全的访问控制,并通过ASP技术为不同的用户提供其所需的实时系统运行情况,和系统输出大气的质量。     

The Devil Lies in Details! How Crises Build up Within Organizations

In this paper, we show that crises result from the combination of two parallel cumulative processes: first, an undercurrent accumulation of organizational imperfections that lay a favourable ground for crises to occur and second, the development of a growing ignorance that keeps managers blind to the presence of these imperfections. The central idea is to demonstrate that organizational imperfections are allowed to build up and grow into vulnerabilities because they are not noticed or taken into consideration. This managerial ignorance is described as a self‐nourishing retreat from reality that decreases leaders' ability to pay sufficient attention to the increasing process of accumulation of imperfections and vulnerabilities. A case study in a French chain of supermarket is used to illustrate this process of crisis.

PPM with the extended alphabet

In the following paper we propose modification of Prediction by Partial Matching (PPM)—a lossless data compression algorithm, which extends an alphabet, used in the PPM method, to long repeated strings. Usually the PPM algorithm’s alphabet consists of 256 characters only. We show, on the basis of the Calgary corpus [T.C. Bell, J. Cleary, I.H. Witten, Text compression. Advanced Reference Series, Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, 1990], that for ordinary files such a modification improves the compression performance in lower, but not greater than 10, orders. However, for some kind of files, this modification gives much better compression performance than any known lossless data compression algorithm.     

Experiences with the Denelcor HEP

Three FORTRAN codes, each typical of a class of simulation problems at Los Alamos National Laboratory, have been converted to execute on the Denelcor HEP. The codes are (i) PIC, a particle-in-cell code; (ii) SIMPLE, a two-dimensional Lagrangian hydrodynamics program, and (iii) TRAC, a nuclear reactor simulation. The programming paradigm that was used and the algorithmic nature of the concurrency are discussed. Speedups as a function of number of processes are given.     

Problem solving with the ATMS

An assumption-based truth maintenance system provides a very general facility for all types of default reasoning. However, the ATMS is only one component of an overall reasoning system. This paper presents a set of concerns for interfacing with the ATMS, an interface protocol, and an example of a constraint language based on the protocol. The paper concludes with a comparison of the ATMS and the view of problem solving it entails with other approaches.
