An optimisation framework for wireless link adaptation which maximises the system throughput subject to a packet-level quality of service (QoS) constraint is presented. The authors consider joint adaptive variation of the transmitted power level, transmission data rate and packet-error-rate (PER) at the physical layer to improve the throughput performance of the selective-repeat automatic repeat request (SR-ARQ) protocol over block-fading channels. Specifically, for discrete-rate coded M-QAM schemes, the authors present a power and rate adaptation algorithm that guarantees a target PER constraint. The proposed framework also facilitates optimising the throughput performance for delay constrained wireless applications, which imposes a limit on the number of retransmissions for the ARQ. In particular, a link adaptation scheme is presented, which guarantees a target packet-loss rate (PLR) when a truncated SR ARQ protocol at the data-link layer is employed. Numerical results indicate that the proposed adaptation schemes compared with other adaptive schemes noticeably enhance the system throughput. Also, in the case of truncated ARQ, the results illustrate a fundamental trade-off between the delay and PLR QoS metrics achieved at the maximum throughput performance.  相似文献

The problem of power loading in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based systems that provides minimization of the bit-error rate (BER) performance under a fixed transmit power (or equivalently minimisation of the transmit power under a fixed value of the BER) is addressed in this work. A lemma about inversion of subchannel power gains is proved and examples that exhibit its utility are presented. As a result, a non-iterative adaptive power allocation technique is derived. The algorithm combines the recently proposed ordered subcarrier selection method with 'subchannel inversion'. Compared with the original technique, such a combination provides a power gain that depends on the channel statistics.  相似文献

The authors present and analyse a predictive closed-loop power control (CLPC) scheme, which employs a comb-type sample arrangement to effectively compensate multiple power control group delays over mobile fading channels. The authors consider both least squares and recursive least squares filters in our CLPC scheme. The effects of channel estimation error, prediction filter error and power control bit transmission error on the performance of the proposed CLPC method along with competing non-predictive and predictive CLPC schemes are thoroughly investigated. The results clearly indicate the superiority of the proposed scheme with its improved robustness under non-ideal conditions. Furthermore, the authors carry out a Monte-Carlo simulation study of a 5%5 square grid cellular network and evaluate the user capacity. Capacity improvements up to 90% are observed for a typical cellular network scenario.  相似文献

This paper develops bit and power allocation schemes with beamforming for multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems on uplink. The model of the multi-cell channel with frequency reuse is considered. The transmit signal from each mobile causes interference to the received signals of other base stations. The schemes aim to minimise the total mobile transmit power while satisfying the required data rate and the bit error rate (BER) of each mobile. The proposed schemes offer better performance than that of the fixed bit allocation method. The proposed distributed allocation scheme reduces computational complexity compared to the proposed centralised multi-user greedy method with insignificant performance degradation. The simulation results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed schemes.  相似文献

Link adaptation techniques aim to maximise the quality of service and resource utilisation in wireless networks. However, fairness must be taken into consideration, particularly, in low-mobility environments where the channel dynamic variation is small. The authors propose and analyse three link adaptation techniques [using joint power control (PC) and adaptive coding and modulation (ACM)] for fairness enhancement. In the first technique, called aggregate throughput maximisation with fairness constraint, the authors formulate the fairness problem as a constrained optimisation problem where the authors try to maximise the aggregate throughput subject to the throughput fairness constraint. In order to solve the optimisation problem, the authors convert the constrained optimisation problem to an unconstrained optimisation one using the penalty method. Then, the unconstrained optimisation problem is solved using the steepest descent technique. The second techniques, called individual throughput balancing, tries to equalise the individual throughput by using a higher throughput level for disadvantaged users and using a lower throughput level for advantaged users. Finally, the third technique, called adaptive virtual maximum power constraint, uses virtual maximum power cap, which is lower than the real maximum power cap. The virtual maximum power cap of each user is variable and it adapts based on the user's individual throughput to compensate disadvantaged users. The authors analyse the three proposed techniques in terms of the throughput fairness and the throughput efficiency and compare them with three basic link adaptation techniques (PC, ACM, and joint PC and ACM). The three proposed techniques are shown to be able to enhance the fairness with different degrees and with different levels of aggregate throughput degradation.  相似文献

Optical links are traditionally set to transmit maximum power for worst-case loss and consequently to dissipate more power than is required. We describe a technique to minimize power consumption based on the measured bit-error rate (BER) of the link. This technique uses a novel power-negotiation algorithm that optimizes the link power setting to achieve minimum power dissipation for a target BER. A 0.5 microm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor optical transceiver chip was fabricated, and a free-space optical interconnect system was built for validation. The results showed that the algorithm was able to find the optimum power settings for the VCSELs for a target BER and to account for dynamic changes such as variation in the optical loss in the system.  相似文献

The bit error rate (BER) performance of the zero-forcing (ZF) receiver over transmit-correlated flat Ricean fading channels is investigated. In particular, for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel with M transmit and N receive antennas, an approximation for the average BER of each substream is derived. Then the system performance in receive-correlated flat Ricean fading channels is addressed. In this case, it is shown that the performance, when N ? M, is the same as that of transmit-correlated flat Ricean fading channels. A closed-form expression for the optimum transmit correlation coefficient, which achieves the maximum capacity (i.e. uncorrelated case), is also derived. As a result, a significant capacity gain is achieved by exploiting the knowledge of the Ricean channel. Extensive simulations are presented to validate and demonstrate the performance gain with different system parameters.  相似文献

Optical wireless communication (OWC) systems use the atmosphere as a propagation medium. However, a common problem is that from time to time moderate cloud and fog emerge between the receiver and the transmitter. These adverse weather conditions impose temporal broadening and power loss on the optical signal, which reduces the digital signal-to-noise ratio (DSNR), produces significant intersymbol interference (ISI), and degrades the communication system's bit error rate (BER) and throughput. We propose and investigate the use of a combined adaptive bandwidth mechanism and decision feedback equalizer (DFE) to mitigate these atmospheric multipath effects. Based on theoretical analysis and simulations of DSNR penalties, BER, and optimum system bandwidths, we show that a DFE improves the outdoor OWC system immunity to ISI in foggy weather while maintaining high throughput and desired low BER.  相似文献

Future wireless networks demand high spectral efficiency, energy efficiency and reliability. Cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is considered as one of the novel techniques to meet this demand. In this work, an adaptive power allocation scheme called SWIPT based adaptive power allocation (SWIPT-APA-NOMA) is proposed for a power domain NOMA network. The proposed scheme considers the receiver sensitivity of the end users while calculating the power allocation coefficients in order to prevent wastage of power allocated to user in outage and by offering priority to any one of the users to use maximum harvested power. A detailed analysis on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed scheme is done and closed form expression is obtained. Simulations have been carried out with various parameters that influence the receiver sensitivity and the results show that the network achieves better outage and BER performance using the proposed scheme. It is found that the proposed scheme leads to a ten-fold decrease in transmit power for the same error performance of a fixed power allocation scheme. Further, it offers 96.06% improvement in the capacity for a cumulative noise figure and fading margin of 10 dB.  相似文献

A downlink (base-to-mobile) multicarrier direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (MC DS-CDMA) system employing multiple antennas at both the base station and each of the mobile terminals is investigated, when communicating over fast time-varying fading channels resulting in time-selective fading. In the considered multiantenna MC DS-CDMA, space-time spreading (STS) based on the family of orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes is proposed in order to achieve the time diversity because of the time-selective fading, in addition to the transmit/receive diversity. In this contribution, the closed-form expressions for the single-user bit-error rate (BER) are derived, in order to gain insight into the achievable BER performance of the multiantenna MC DS-CDMA. The BER performance of the multiantenna MC DS-CDMA system is investigated, when communicating over correlated time-selective Rayleigh fading channels. The study and performance results show that the multiantenna MC DS-CDMA using OVSF codes-assisted STS constitutes a high-efficiency downlink space-time transmission scheme. It is capable of achieving the full diversity provided by the time- selective fading and multiple transmit/receive antennas. Furthermore, the proposed multiantenna MC DS-CDMA is capable of achieving a self-balance between the time diversity achieved and the multiuser interference suppression capability, when using low-complexity correlation detection.  相似文献

Binary asymmetric turbo codes and non-binary turbo codes have been proposed to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of parallel concatenated coding schemes. Both strategies have certain advantages that can be exploited when they are put together. This paper investigates turbo codes based on two component recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) codes defined over a finite field of integers. Symmetric and asymmetric non-binary turbo codes are obtained and their BER performance in both the `waterfall? and the `error-floor? regions is analysed. The results show good performance improvements when compared to binary and quaternary turbo codes with same throughput.  相似文献

Resource allocation in wireless ad hoc networks is usually modelled in a non-cooperative game theoretic framework with the objective of maximising individual utility. However, the selfishness of autonomous users under such framework may lead to throughput unfairness which only benefits certain users. To alleviate this unfairness problem, the authors propose a payment-based power control scheme using game theory where each user announces a set of price coefficients that reflects different compensations paid by other users for the interference they produce. Users who generate higher interference are required to pay more by transmitting at a lower power to give other users a fairer chance of sharing the throughput.Without any incentive to play fairly, users could misbehave by broadcasting high price coefficients to force other users to transmit at a lower power. The authors treat this problem casting it into a price game which resembles a Prisoner's Dilemma game. Users who play this game iteratively will behave cooperatively and broadcast the price coefficients truthfully. Together with analytical proof, the proposed approach is shown to converge to Nash equilibrium where at this point it is able to provide a fairer throughput share among users at the expense of a slight loss in total throughput.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new two-code keying scheme for enabling bipolar encoding in a high-rate spectral-amplitude coding optical code-division multiple-access (SAC-OCDMA) system. The mathematical formulations are derived for the signal-to-noise ratio and bit-error rate (BER) of SAC-OCDMA system based on the suggested scheme using multi-diagonal (MD) code. Performance analyses are assessed considering the effects of phase-induced intensity noise, as well as shot and thermal noises in photodetectors. The numerical results demonstrated that the proposed scheme exhibits an enhanced BER performance compared to the existing unipolar encoding with direct detection technique. Furthermore, the performance improvement afforded by this scheme is verified using simulation experiments.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis is presented to show that in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems, the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) can be reduced by performing a unitary matrix transformation on the input vector of N symbols. The authors also prove that this transformation does not degrade the bit error rate (BER) or power spectral density (PSD) performance. Based on this, the inverse discrete Fourier transform matrix is proposed as the unitary matrix to reduce the PAPR. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can obtain significant PAPR reduction while maintaining good performance in the BER and the PSD. To further evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, the authors compare it with some well known PAPR reduction techniques by simulations. It is demonstrated that the proposed scheme can offer better system performance and achieve a better compromise with regard to the PAPR reduction, BER, spectral efficiency and computational complexity.  相似文献

本文研究了指向误差、气动光学效应及Exponentiated Weibull大气湍流联合效应对OFDM光链路通信性能的影响。其中OFDM链路采用PSK调制,应用Meijer G函数推导得到多载波条件下总平均误码率的闭合表达式。根据平均误码率闭合表达式进行了仿真,分析了不同大气湍流强度、PSK调制阶数、抖动标准差和波束宽度对误码率的影响。通过仿真分析证明基于Exponentiated Weibull大气湍流模型,在不同湍流强度条件下误码率随着发射功率的增加改善近似。当抖动标准差小于0.7及调制阶数小于4时,增大发射功率对改善链路误码率效果明显。

为解决长距离高速水声数据传输问题,采用接力式水声数据转发传输是一个很好的解决方案。结合正交频分复用技术的特点设计实现了一个数字式的水下转发器系统。系统功耗低、结构简单,可以很好地解决水声通信中存在的多途干扰和窄带宽问题,实现高速、可靠的水下数据转发的目的。湖试中,在6000m的距离内,3kHz带宽下,转发速率为4.32kb/s,误码率低于10-3。湖试结果表明,基于正交频分复用的水下转发器可以达到较高的转发速率和较低的误码率。  相似文献

The problem of throughput maximisation in a wireless multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system using a quantised feedback, which is an appropriate model for practical systems with limited feedback capacity, is considered. Unlike the ergodic capacity that can be achieved through power control only, maximising the throughput in the block fading channels is based on appropriate rate control strategy. The optimal quantised rate control design for general MIMO systems is formulated and a gradient descent search algorithm to find the optimal solution is employed. It is seen that the proposed quantised rate control scheme with only a few bits of feedback considerably improves the throughput of a MIMO system. With the same amount of feedback overhead, the proposed quantised rate control with constant power is compared with the optimal quantised power control strategy with an optimised constant rate, and the result demonstrates the importance of rate control in throughput maximisation. The effect of quantised rate control in MIMO systems employing different automatic repeat request schemes is also investigated  相似文献
