An experimental study of the blow molding of talc-polyethylene and talc-polypropylene compounds is presented. These compounds are found not to exhibit zero shear viscosity but rather yield stresses, below which there is no flow. The annular swell of the compositions is greatly reduced compared to the neat thermoplastics, but extrusion sag is minimized. Blow molded bottles of talc-thermoplastic compounds were found to have much greater thickness uniformity than blow molded neat polyolefins. The talc particles were determined, by X-ray diffraction, to be oriented with the flake surfaces parallel to the mold surface or equivalently to the bottle surface.  相似文献

An investigation of the gasoline permeation resistance of the as‐blow‐molded and annealed polyethylene, polyethylene (PE)/polyamide (PA), and polyethylene/modified polyamide (MPA) bottles is reported. The gasoline permeation resistance improves dramatically after blending PA and MPA barrier resins in PE matrices during blow‐molding, and the order of barrier improvement corresponds to the order of barrier improvement of the barrier resins added in PE. Somewhat unexpectedly, the gasoline permeation rates of the annealed PE and/or PE/PA bottles annealed at 90°C or higher temperatures increase significantly with the annealing temperature and time. On the contrary, the gasoline permeation resistance of the annealed PE/MPA bottles increase significantly as the annealing temperature and/or time increase. For instance, the gasoline permeation rate of the PE/MPA bottle annealed at 120°C for 32 h is about 190 times slower than that of the as‐blow‐molded PE bottle. Further investigations found that, after blending the MPA and PA barrier resins in PE matrices, the relatively nonpolar hydrocarbon components present in the gasoline fuels were significantly blocked, without permeation during the permeation tests, in which the as‐blow‐molded PE/MPA bottle inhibited the permeation of hydrocarbon components more successfully than did the as‐blow‐molded PE/PA bottle. In contrast, the amounts of polar components that permeated through the as‐blow‐molded PE/PA and PE/MPA bottles were very small and about the same as the amount that permeated through the as‐blow‐molded PE bottle. A study was carried out of the development of orientation during processing of conventional blow molded bottles made from low density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), and high density polyethylene (HDPE). The level of molecular orientation was found to be relatively low in all of the polyethylene bottles examined; it increased with increasing inflation pressure and decreasing extrusion temperature. Pole figures for the HDPE bottles indicated a slight a-axis orientation toward the circumferential direction of the bottle. The b-axes, which correspond to the lamellar growth direction, tend to be parallel to the bottle thickness direction. A comparison was made of the structure developed in blow molded bottles and blown films. The results for both films and bottles indicate that crystallization during processing involves both an increase in level of molecular orientation and an increased tendency toward biaxiality. Based on pole figures and small angle X-ray scattering patterns, a morphological model for HDPE blow molded bottles is proposed.  相似文献

Parison formation and inflation behavior of three polyamide 6 resins during extrusion blow molding were investigated using cinematography, a transparent mold, a pinch-off mold and a modified blow pin, which allowed the pressure inside the parison to be determined during inflation. The glass fiber filled polyamide exhibited negligible extrudate swell and significant drawdown, whereas polyolefin modified polyamide exhibited appreciable extrudate swell and relatively small drawdown effects. The inflation behavior of the polyolefin modified polyamide was similar to the behavior of conventional blow molding grade polyolefins, whereas the unmodified and glass filled polyamides exhibited different inflation characteristics. Their inflation behavior at different internal pressures was characterized by decreasing and increasing Hencky strain rates with inflation time at high and low internal blow pressures, respectively. The characterized parison formation and inflation behavior of the polyamides emphasize the importance of rigorous blow moldability experiments and the difficulties associated with linking various rheological material functions to the blow moldability of modified polyamides.  相似文献
