The International Organization for Standardization's (ISO's) standard for the exchange of product-model data (STEP) is discussed. The goal of this standard, officially named ISO 10303, is to facilitate the computer-readable exchange of the total information used to define an industrial product. As a standard method for digital product definition. STEP will support communications among heterogeneous computer environments. The standard will make it easier to integrate systems that perform various product life-cycle functions, such as design, manufacturing, and logistics support, and will help facilitate concurrent engineering. Today's manufacturing enterprises struggle to adopt cost-effective manufacturing systems. Overview of the recent manufacturing enterprises shows that successful global manufacturing enterprises have distributed their manufacturing capabilities over the globe. The successes of global manufacturing enterprises depend upon the entire worldwide integration of their product development processes and manufacturing operations that are distributed over the globe. Distributed manufacturing agents' collaboration and manufacturing data integrity play a major role in global manufacturing enterprises' success. There are number of works, conducted to enable the distributed manufacturing agents to collaborate with each other. To achieve the manufacturing data integrity through manufacturing processes, numbers of solutions have been proposed which one of the successful solutions is to use ISO 10303 (STEP) standard. However, adopting this standard one can recognize antonym effects of integration and collaboration approaches that weaken both integration and collaboration capabilities of manufacturing agents. In our latest work, we had developed an integrated and collaborative manufacturing platform named LAYMOD. Albeit the platform in question was through enough to be applied in various collaborative and integrated CAx systems, its embedded structure hampers its application for collaboration in distributed manufacturing systems. To achieve an integrated and collaborative platform for distributed manufacturing agents, this paper proposes a service-oriented approach. This approach is originated from cloud computing paradigm known as one of the technologies which enables a major transformation in manufacturing industry. Also, to maintain the product data integration based on the STEP standard, a new service-oriented approach is proposed. This approach is in parallel to the new capability of the STEP standard for supporting XML data structures. The result is a new platform named XMLAYMOD. XMLAYMOD is able to support distributed manufacturing collaboration and data integration based on the STEP standard. The different aspects of this platform to fulfill the requirements of distributed collaboration and also to overcome the lacks of the STEP standard are discussed through a brief case study.  相似文献

Standard for the exchange of product model data (STEP) AP218 has a standard schema to represent the structural model of a midship section. While its schema facilitate the exchange of ship structural models among heterogeneous systems, most shipyards and classification societies exchange information using 2D paper drawings. We propose a feature parameter input method to generate a 3D STEP model of a ship structure from 2D drawings. We have analyzed the ship structure information contained in 2D drawings and have defined a data model to express the contents of the drawing. We also developed a GUI for the feature parameter input. To translate 2D information extracted from the drawing into a STEP AP218 model, we have developed a shape generation library and have generated the 3D ship model through this library. The generated 3D STEP model of a ship structure can be used to exchange information between design departments in a shipyard as well as between classification societies and shipyards.  相似文献

We describe a test system in which we used a data management system and delta files to communicate engineering changes between two modeling systems: an ACIS-based solid modeling system running on a Sun Sparc workstation to create a part, and a CATIA system running on an IBM RS/6000 to design a fixture for it. The test system communicates the first version of the MBB part between the two engineers as a PDES/STEP (Product Data Exchange Standard/Standard for the Exchange of Product-Model Data) exchange file. The ACIS engineer then makes an engineering change to the part, thus creating, the second version (V2) of it, and a delta file communicates the V2 changes to the CATIA engineer. The CATIA engineer can use this delta file to highlight the changes to the part between the two versions. Although our test system/scenario is simple, it demonstrates the advantages of delta files. It also helped us identify several important issues for developing the method further. We first outline the STEP standard and how we used it to implement data exchange in our test system, then we discuss delta files and describe how we implemented them. Realizing the digital thread is essential for linking and orchestrating data across the product lifecycle in smart manufacturing. Linking heterogeneous lifecycle data is critical to maintain associativity and traceability in a digital thread. Recently, researchers have successfully leveraged ontology models with knowledge graphs in engineering domains for threading different lifecycle data. One of the most successful of such efforts is OntoSTEP which enables the formal capture of information embedded in the STandard for Exchange of Product model data (STEP) data representation, or ISO 10303. Meanwhile, an emerging inspection standard, called the Quality Information Framework (QIF), has garnered significant attention as it can bring quality information into the digital thread. Implementing more automated methods for product quality assurance is challenging due to the lack of unified information models from design to inspection. To this end, we propose an approach to fuse as-designed data represented in STEP and as-inspected data represented in QIF in a standards-based digital thread based on ontology with knowledge graphs. Specifically, we present an automated pipeline for generating knowledge graphs representing STEP and QIF data, a mapping implementation to integrate STEP and QIF knowledge graphs, and rules and queries to demonstrate the integration’s potential for better decision making with respect to product quality assurance.  相似文献

A database of mechanical components is an important issue for some manufacturing activities such as cost estimation, process planning, and design by case-based reasoning. In this paper, we give the representation scheme of the CAD model in such a database. Components are represented using attributed graphs in which the nodes correspond to the surfaces of the component and the links correspond to the edges of the component. The graph is based on the standard for the exchange of product information (STEP) physical file of the component. STEP file should be unique for a single component regardless of the underlying CAD system. The process of creating the graph of a component constitutes two sub-tasks: (i) importing the CAD model from the CAD system in STEP format and (ii) transforming the STEP data into attributed graph-based representation. The graph and its attributes describe the topology of the component completely together with some geometric data that are not dependent on any coordinate system such as surface type and curve type. These geometric data are helpful in the retrieval and matching processes in the database.  相似文献
