The electrochemical reduction of oxygen on thin-film platinum electrodes in 0.1 M HClO4 and 0.05 M H2SO4 solutions has been investigated using the rotating disk electrode (RDE) method. Thin films of Pt (0.25-20 nm thick) were prepared by vacuum evaporation onto glassy carbon substrate. The surface morphology of Pt films was examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The specific activity of O2 reduction was higher in HClO4 and decreased with decreasing film thickness. In H2SO4, the specific activity was lower and appeared to be independent of the Pt loading. The values of Tafel slopes close to −120 mV dec−1 in high current density range and −60 mV dec−1 in low current density range were obtained for all electrodes in both solutions, indicating that the mechanism of O2 reduction is the same for thin-film electrodes as for bulk Pt. The number of electrons transferred per O2 molecule was close to four for all thin Pt films studied.  相似文献

This paper is focused on the in situ radiotracer and voltammetric studies of the induced HSO4/SO42− adsorption at Pt(poly) and Pt(1 1 1) surfaces in 0.1 mol dm−3 HClO4 solution in the course of Cr(VI) electroreduction. Besides this, the sorption behavior of HSO4/SO42− ions on bare Pt(poly) and Pt(1 1 1) electrodes is compared and discussed. From the experimental results it can be stated that: (i) although the extent of bisulfate/sulfate adsorption is strongly dependent upon the crystallographic orientation of Pt surfaces, the maximum coverage on the Pt(1 1 1) does not exceed 0.2 monolayer; (ii) the Cr(VI) electroreduction on both poly- and (1 1 1) oriented platinum proceeds via a ce (chemical-electron-transfer) mechanism to yield Pt surfaces covered with intermediate surface adlayers containing Cr(VI) particles (and reduced Cr-containing adspecies) and ‘strongly bonded’ HSO4/SO42− ions; (iii) while the coverage of platinum surfaces by the intermediate complexes formed in the course of Cr(VI) electroreduction at E > 0.20 V is basically independent of the crystallographic orientation of the Pt electrode, the onset for rapid Cr(VI) reduction is highly affected by the nature and crystallographic orientation of the electrode.  相似文献

The mass transport characteristics of a porous, rotating cylinder electrode (RCE, 1.0 cm diameter; 0.5, 0.9 or 1.2 cm long; 1.25, 2.25, 3.00 cm3 overall volume; 250-2000 rpm speed) fabricated from reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC, 60 ppi or 100 ppi) were investigated. The deposition of copper from an acid sulfate electrolyte (typically, deoxygenated 1 mM CuSO4 in pH 2, 0.5 M Na2SO4 at 298 K) was used as a test reaction. The effect of a jet flow of electrolyte towards the electrode and the introduction of polypropylene baffles in the electrochemical cell were studied at controlled rotation rates of the RCE. The product of mass transport coefficient and volumetric electrode area (kmAe) is related to the rotation speed of the electrode. For the 60 ppi RVC RCE, the jet electrolyte flow (3.5 cm3 s−1) enhanced the mass transport rates by a factor of 1.46 at low rotation speeds; this factor was reduced to 1.08 at high rotation speeds. For a 100 ppi electrode, the enhanced mass transport decreased from 1.26 to 1.03 at low and high rotation rates, respectively. Under the experimental conditions, baffles showed little effect on the mass transport rates to the RVC RCE. Mass transport to jet flow at an RVC RCE is compared to other RCEs using dimensionless group correlation.  相似文献

Micelle-encapsulated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were used as catalyst support to deposit platinum nanoparticles. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images reveal the crystalline nature of Pt nanoparticles with a diameter of ∼4 nm on the surface of MWCNTs. A single proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) with total catalyst loading of 0.2 mg Pt cm−2 (anode 0.1 and cathode 0.1 mg Pt cm−2, respectively) has been evaluated at 80 °C with H2 and O2 gases using Nafion-212 electrolyte. Pt/MWCNTs synthesized by using modified SDS-MWCNTs with high temperature treatment (250 °C) showed a peak power density of 950 mW cm−2. Accelerated durability evaluation was carried out by conducting 1500 potential cycles between 0.1 and 1.2 V with 50 mV s−1 scan rate, H2/N2 at 80 °C. The membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with Pt/MWCNTs showed superior performance stability with a power density degradation of only ∼30% compared to commercial Pt/C (70%) after potential cycles.  相似文献

The electrochemical oxidation of Ibuprofen (Ibu) was performed using a Ti/Pt/PbO2 electrode as the anode, prepared according to literature, and a boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode, commercially available at Adamant Technologies. Tests were performed with model solutions of Ibu, with concentrations ranging from 0.22 to 1.75 mM for the Ti/Pt/PbO2 electrode and 1.75 mM for the BDD electrode, using 0.035 M Na2SO4 as the electrolyte, in a batch cell, at different current densities (10, 20 and 30 mA cm−2). Absorbance measurements, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) tests were conducted for all samples. The results have shown a very good degradation of Ibu, with COD removals between 60 and 95% and TOC removals varying from 48 to 92%, in 6 h experiments, with higher values obtained with the BDD electrode. General Current Efficiency and Mineralization Current Efficiency, determined for both electrodes, show a similar behaviour for 20 mA cm−2 but a very different one at 30 mA cm−2. The combustion efficiency was also determined for both anodes, and found to be slightly higher with BDD at lower current density and equal to 100% for both anodes at 30 mA cm−2.  相似文献

New electrode materials for electrochemical capacitor, tungsten carbide WC and molybdenum carbide Mo2C coated by porous carbon, were prepared through a simple heat treatment of the mixture of K2WO4 and K2MoO4, respectively, with hydroxy propyl cellulose. Carbide changed to hydroxide during the 1st charge-discharge cycle in H2SO4 aqueous electrolyte, which showed redox reaction in further charge-discharge cycles, in addition to electric double layers of the carbon formed on its surface. The carbon-coated carbide gave a high capacitance in 1 mol L−1 H2SO4 electrolyte, as about 350 F cm−3 for carbon-coated WC and 550-750 F cm−3 for carbon-coated Mo2C. Coating of carbon inhibits the growth of carbide particles during their formation, of which the small particle size make possible to complete transformation to hydroxides during the 1st charge-discharge cycle, and also disturbs the agglomeration of tungsten and molybdenum hydroxides during charge-discharge cycles, as well as porous carbon coated act as electrode material for electric double layers of electrolyte ions.  相似文献

The electrochemical reduction of oxygen on thin Pd films with a nominal thickness of 0.25-10 nm on polycrystalline Au substrate (Pd/Au) was studied. The Pd films were prepared by electron beam evaporation and oxygen reduction was studied in 0.1 M HClO4 and 0.05 M H2SO4 solutions using the rotating disk electrode (RDE) method. The surface morphology of Pd overlayers was examined by scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). O2 reduction predominantly proceeds through 4e pathway on all Pd/Au electrodes. The specific activity (SA) of oxygen reduction was lower in H2SO4 solution and decreased slightly with decreasing the Pd film thickness. In HClO4, the SA was higher and not significantly dependent on the film thickness. The Tafel slope values close to −60 mV at low current densities and −120 mV at high current densities were found for all electrodes.  相似文献

The electrosynthesis of polyaniline on the bare aluminum and pre-treated aluminum surface achieved in aqueous H2PtCl6 solution saturated with NaF for few seconds is described. The effect of some factors such as pre-treatment time, aniline and sulfuric acid concentrations on the electropolymerization process was investigated and optimum conditions were obtained. The stability of polyaniline film on the pre-treated aluminum electrode (Al-Pt) was studied as function of the potential imposed on the electrode. For applied electrode potentials of 0.1-0.7 V, the first-order degradation rate constant, k, of polyaniline film varies between 1 × 10−6 and 2 × 10−5 s−1, and a relatively low slope (i.e. 2.1) was obtained for the plot of log k versus E. The coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and cyclic voltammetric behavior of the polyaniline-deposited Al electrode (Al/PANI) and polyaniline-deposited Al-Pt electrode (Al-Pt/PANI) in 0.1 H2SO4 solutions is described. The electrocatalytic activity of the Al-Pt/PANI electrode against para-benzoquinone/hydroquinone (Q/H2Q) and Fe(CN)63−/Fe(CN)64− redox systems was investigated and the obtained results are compared with those obtained on Al/PANI and bulk Pt electrodes.  相似文献

Polyaniline (PANI)/polysulfone (PSF) composite films with asymmetric porous structure were successfully prepared by electropolymerization. The back face (in contact with the electrode) of the freestanding composite film is green while the outer face is white. The chemical component and the morphology of the surfaces were characterized by FTIR spectra and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. It was shown that replicate films gave reproducible voltammetry in 0.5 M H2SO4. The influence of the electrolyte and the acidic concentration on the redox peak currents of polyaniline were investigated in detail. The composite film electrode showed good electrocatalytic activity for ascorbic acid, which the anodic overpotential was evidently reduced compared with that obtained at bare Pt electrode. The diffusion coefficient of ascorbic acid was 1.38 × 10−6 cm2 s−1.  相似文献

The influence of Nafion® film on ORR kinetics and H2O2 formation on a Pt electrode was investigated using RRDE in 0.1 M HClO4. It was found that the Nafion®-coated Pt system showed lower apparent ORR activity and more H2O2 production than the bare Pt electrode system. From the temperature sensitivity, it was revealed that the apparent activation energies of ORR in the Nafion®-coated Pt system were lower than the bare Pt electrode system, and the H2O2 formation was suppressed with the increase of the temperature. In order to analyze the results furthermore, other systems (0.1/1.0 M, HClO4/CF3SO3H) with the bare Pt electrodes were also examined as references. It was exhibited that the ORR kinetic current, the H2O2 formation, and the apparent activation energies of 1.0 M CF3SO3H system were close to those of the Nafion®-coated Pt system. We concluded that the orientation of anion species of Nafion® and CF3SO3H to the Pt surface via water molecules, as well as a fluorocarbon polymer network of Nafion®, might block O2 adsorption, resulting in the smaller effective surface area of the Pt electrode for ORR, the smaller ORR kinetic current, and the more H2O2 production.  相似文献

This study uses rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) to characterize oxygen reduction kinetics in alkaline solution on platinum electrodes with various thickness of hydrous oxide (oxyhydroxy) film. Oxyhydroxy films are created on Pt electrodes by pretreatment in 1.0 mol dm−3 KOH at a constant voltage. The pretreatment voltage ranges from −1.2 to 1.0 V and is increased stepwise before each new experimental run to produce seven discreet films. LSV plots show oxyhydroxy film thickness strongly inhibits oxygen reduction and is inversely proportional to RRDE oxygen reduction current ID for LSV voltages ED from −0.1 to −0.46 V, but this trend reverses at ED more negative than −0.46 V so that the worst-performing electrode becomes the best. However, this improvement disappears at around −0.8 V, suggesting this change involves a negatively charged ion, possibly embedded into the metal in the top few atomic layers either interstitially or substitutionally. The 1.0 V-pretreated electrode in the ED range from −0.46 to −0.9 V of highest oxygen reduction current also exhibits the lowest hydrogen peroxide production, with zero H2O2 produced at −0.6 V, indicating the brief presence of the oxyhydroxy film on the Pt surface has strong lingering effects. The post-oxyhydroxy Pt surface is very different than the native Pt for oxygen reduction pathway and efficiency. Reaction order with respect to oxygen is close to 1. The rate constants of the direct O2 to H2O electroreduction reaction are increased with decreasing the potential from −0.2 to −0.6 V, but the O2 to H2O2 electroreduction is contrary to this expectation. The rate constants of H2O2 decomposition on the oxyhydroxy film-covered Pt electrode are near constant around 1 × 10−4 cm s−1 at ED > −0.5 V.  相似文献

A copolymer, poly(aniline-co-m-aminophenol), has been synthesized using repeated potential cycling. The monomer concentration ratio, acid concentration and applied potential strongly affect the copolymerization rate and the properties of the copolymer. The optimum conditions for the copolymerization are that the scan potential range is controlled between −0.10 and 0.95 V (vs.SCE), and a solution consists of 0.34 M aniline, 0.012 M m-aminophenol and 2 M H2SO4. The IR spectra of the copolymers demonstrate that the m-aminophenol units are included in the copolymer chains. The cyclic voltammograms of the copolymers in 0.3 M Na2SO4 solution with various pH values were performed at the potential ranges from −0.20 to 0.80 V and at a scan rate of 60 mV s−1. The results indicate that the copolymer still hold 41.7% of the electrochemical activity when the copolymer electrode was transferred from a solution of pH 5.0 to a solution of pH 11.0 in the potential range of −0.20 to 0.80 V. An impedance plot of the copolymer in a solution with pH 12.0 and at 0.40 V is constructed of a semicircle and a Warburg line with a slope of 1. This means that the electrode reaction of the copolymer at pH 12.0 is also under mass transfer control. The conductivity of the copolymer prepared under the optimum conditions is 1.42 S cm−1, and slightly depends on the pH value. Thus, the pH dependence of the electrical properties of the copolymer is improved compared with poly(aniline-co-o-aminophenol), and is much better than that of the parent polyaniline.  相似文献

The impedance of the anodically formed hydrous Ru oxide in the system Ru|oxide film|1 M HClO4 solution has been studied in the range of potentials where the electrode process occurs by a double electron and proton exchange between the oxide film and the solution. The results allowed us to clearly distinguish between the surface process at higher frequency and the bulk process at lower frequency. The high-frequency charging is found to be coupled to Faradaic charging at the film/solution interface. Evaluation of the impedance data at lower frequency, using diffusion equations for the finite boundary conditions, yields an effective proton diffusion coefficient to be 10−10 to 10−11 cm2 s−1.Oxygen reduction on the spontaneously oxidized ruthenium electrode was discussed on the basis of a rotating ring-disk voltammetry.  相似文献

The electro-oxidation of CO adlayer on Pt electrode in Cl-containing 0.1 M HClO4 has been investigated with in situ attenuated-total-reflection surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS). Two potentials were selected for predosing CO on the Pt electrode: one is in the H-UPD region, i.e., 0.1 V (vs. RHE) and the other is in the double-layer region, i.e., 0.45 V (vs. RHE). The broadening of the prewave and the main peak for the CO oxidation is observed, in addition to the positively shifted oxidation potentials. The spectroelectrochemical data suggest the specific adsorption of Cl starts at a potential as negative as 0.1 V which may compete with the adsorption of OH at CO-unoccupied sites (including but not limited to defect sites) and/or hinder the diffusion of CO to OH adsorption sites on Pt electrode, slowing down the CO oxidation. This competitive Cl adsorption at lower potentials disrupts the interfacial free H2O structure on the top of CO adlayer, signaled by a reduced OH stretching band intensity.  相似文献

Electrochemical deposition of polyaniline (PANI) is carried out on a porous carbon substrate for supercapacitor studies. The effect of substrate is studied by comparing the results obtained using platinum, stainless steel and porous carbon substrates. PANI deposited at 100 mV s−1 sweep rate by potentiodynamic technique on porous carbon substrate is found to possess superior capacitance properties. Experimental variables, namely, concentrations of aniline monomer and H2SO4 supporting electrolyte are varied and arrived at the optimum concentrations to obtain a maximum capacitance of PANI. Low concentrations of both aniline and H2SO4, which produce PANI at low rates, are desirable. The PANI deposits prepared under these conditions possess network morphology of nanofibrils. Capacitance values as high as 1600 F g−1 are obtained and PANI coated carbon electrodes facilitate charge-discharge current densities as high as 45 mA cm−2 (19.8 A g−1). Electrodes are found to be fairly stable over a long cycle-life, although there is some capacitance loss during the initial stages of cycling.  相似文献

Solid acid polymer electrolytes (SAPE) were synthesised using polyvinyl alcohol, potassium iodide and sulphuric acid in different molar ratios by solution cast technique. The temperature dependent nature of electrical conductivity and the impedance of the polymer electrolytes were determined along with the associated activation energy. The electrical conductivity at room temperature was found to be strongly depended on the amorphous nature of the polymers and H2SO4 concentration. The ac (100 Hz to 10 MHz) and dc conductivities of the polymer electrolytes with different H2SO4 concentrations were analyzed. A maximum dc conductivity of 1.05 × 10−3 S cm−1 has been achieved at ambient temperature for electrolytes containing 5 M H2SO4. The frequency and temperature dependent dielectric and electrical modulus properties of the SAPE were studied. The charge transport in the present polymer electrolyte was obtained using Wagner's polarization technique, which demonstrated the charge transport to be mainly due to ions. Using these solid acid polymer electrolytes novel Zn/SAPE/MnO2 solid state batteries were fabricated and their discharge capacity was calculated. An open circuit voltage of 1.758 V was obtained for 5 M H2SO4 based Zn/SAPE/MnO2 battery.  相似文献

Nanowire-structured MnO2 active materials were prepared by a chemical precipitation method and their supercapacitive properties for use in the electrodes of supercapacitors were investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry in an aqueous gel electrolytes consisting of 1 M Na2SO4 and fumed silica (SiO2). The MnO2 electrode showed a maximum specific capacitance of 151 F g−1 after 1000 cycles at 100 mV s−1 when using the gel electrolyte containing 3 wt.% of SiO2, which is higher than 121 F g−1 obtained when using the 1 M Na2SO4 liquid electrolyte alone.  相似文献

Nafion stabilized inks of Vulcan XC-72 supported platinum (20 wt.%) nanoparticles (Pt/XC-72) were utilized to produce electrocatalytic films on glassy carbon. The catalysts were modified (activated) with phosphododecatungstic acid H3PW12O40 (PW12). Comparison was made to bare (PW12-free) electrocatalytic films. Electroreduction of dioxygen was studied at 25 °C in 0.5 mol dm−3 H2SO4 electrolyte using rotating disk voltammetry. For the same loading of platinum (≈95 μg cm−2) and for the approximately identical distribution of the catalyst, the reduction of oxygen at a glassy carbon electrode modified with the ink containing PW12 proceeded at ca. 30-60 mV more positive potential (depending on the PW12 content), and the system was characterized by a higher kinetic parameter (rate of heterogeneous electron transfer), when compared to the PW12-free electrocatalyst. Gas diffusion electrodes with Pt/XC-72 supported on carbon paper (Pt loading 1 mg cm−2) were also tested. Under the same experimental conditions, while the exchange current density and the total resistance contribution to polarization components, computed from the galvanostatic polarization curves were found to be clearly higher and lower, respectively, for the ink modified with PW12 relative to the unmodified system. The results demonstrate that addition of heteropolytungstatic acid (together with Nafion) enhances the electrocatalytic activity of platinum towards reduction of oxygen.  相似文献

A new approach based on stepwise oxidation of o-anisidine is explored for generating nanoporous films of poly(o-anisidine), POA and loading of Pt nanoparticles that are subsequently used for electrocatalysis of methanol oxidation are presented and compared with bulk Pt. POA film can easily be prepared by stepwise electro-oxidation procedure with very high porosity consisting of nanofibrillar structure using without templates. Controlled sizes of Pt nanoparticles were entrapped into POA matrix by a two-step process in which first PtCl62− ions are sorbed into the pores of polymer matrix followed by electroreduction at −0.55 V in a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution. Loading of Pt nanoparticles (10-200 μg/cm2) onto POA matrix were accomplished by varying the concentration (2-10 mM) of the sorbate, i.e., H2PtCl6. The sizes of the Pt nanoparticles were determined from TEM analysis and Pt particles were found to be in the range of 10-20 nm. The crystallite phase of Pt particles in POA was examined from XRD pattern. AFM image further supports Pt particles embedded in POA matrix.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films were deposited from methanolic solution onto fluorine doped tin oxide coated conducting glass substrates by spray pyrolysis technique. The electrochemical properties of TiO2 thin films were investigated using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronocoulometry and iono-optical studies, in 0.1N H2SO4 electrolyte. Performance of the films deposited at three different substrate temperatures, viz. 350, 400 and 450 °C is discussed in view of their utilization in electrochromic devices, as counter electrode. The magnitude of charge storage capacity, Q/t (4.75-6.13 × 10−3 mC/(cm2 nm)) and colouration efficiency (3.2-4.3 cm2/mC) of TiO2 rank these films among the promising counter electrodes in electrochromic devices.  相似文献
