To investigate the validity of swimming training, the following matters were considered: 1) changes in the performance capacity, 2) changes in the constitution and 3) frequency of locomotor diseases. These were evaluated during a training program including both conventional exercise on a track and swimming. In this study, 24 two-year-old thoroughbred horses were studied, and divided into the following three groups: Group A, trained by only running; Group B, trained by running plus a gradual increase in swimming; Group C, trained by running plus constant swimming. As a result of standardized exercise tests, only the intercepts of the 3 regression curves between the speed and the blood lactate concentration in Group B increased significantly as the training progressed. While the growth in height in Groups B and C were greater than in Group A, the increase in girth and weight in Groups B and C were smaller than in Group A. The percentages with locomotor diseases during this experiment in Groups A, B, and C were 62.5%, 12.5% and 25.0%, respectively, and there was a significant difference (p < 0.05) between Group A and Group B. As mentioned, it was suggested that a training program including swimming training is seen as being useful for improvement in performance capacity, since it can reduce locomotor diseases in young horses and allow for smooth progress in future training.  相似文献

To describe accurately the mineral changes (Ca and Mg) provoked by swimming, the aims of this study were to analyze those tissues that, with regard to their mineral content, can better classify individuals performing both swimming until exhaustion and swimming as training and to know the shifts of these minerals between different tissues after a single session of swimming until exhaustion and after training. Wistar rats were distributed into 12 groups, six male and six female (N = 10): 1) control rest group (CR); 2) trained rest group (TR); 3) control exercise group (CE); 4) trained exercise group (TE); 5) control recovery group (CER) and 6) trained recovery group (TER). The most informative tissues of Ca and Mg compartmental shifts during exercise have been determined. Discriminant analysis selected heart Ca, muscle Ca and bone Ca, bone Mg, erythrocyte Mg, and serum Mg as the most significant variables. The animals were classified by means of two canonical axes: the first one relates to training situation and sex, and the second one shows the special characteristics of trained male rats. Another independent discriminant analysis applied to male and female groups separately showed that the first canonical axis (control/trained) is basically defined by heart Ca, bone Ca, and erythrocyte Mg (male), and by heart Ca, bone Ca, and bone Mg (female), while the second axis, related to the exercise situations, is defined by the serum Mg levels in both sexes. We think that discriminant analysis is a statistical method capable of explaining physiological processes and classifying individuals performing exercises of different length. It suggests that the homeostasis of Ca and Mg is somewhat different for males and females. Serum magnesium must be considered to distinguish exercise situations. The analysis of these tissues could inform us about the mineral status of the rats and then we could correct possible deficiencies in our research. In this work we have only found different mineral redistributions among tissues. The trained animals have a better mineral recovery capacity than the untrained ones. Training has a different physiological repercussion in male and female rats on the basis of their respective maximal swimming times after training and their mineral behavior.  相似文献

Data from a multicenter case-control study on breast cancer conducted in Italy were used to analyze the relationship between various types of fibers and breast cancer risk. Cases were 2,569 women with histologically confirmed, incident breast cancer; controls were 2,588 women admitted to the same network of hospitals for acute, nonneoplastic, non-hormone-related diseases. Cases and controls were interviewed between 1991 and 1994 using a validated food frequency questionnaire. The data were modeled through multiple logistic regression, controlling for demographic and reproductive breast cancer risk factors. The continuous odds ratios for the difference between the upper cut point of the fourth and the first quintile of intake were 0.90 [95% confidence interval = 0.82-0.98, p (for trend) < 0.05] for cellulose and 0.94 (95% confidence interval = 0.86-1.02) for soluble fibers. The protection tended to be stronger in premenopausal women. No material association was found for noncellulose polysaccharides and lignin. This study, based on a large data set from various Italian regions, suggests that fiber intake may confer some protection against breast cancer, particularly for cellulose and also for soluble fibers, i.e., those of vegetable origin. This possible protection has been related to an influence of fibers on levels and availability of estrogens and other steroid hormones in breast carcinogenesis.  相似文献

The current study was undertaken to investigate the effect of swimming training on the antioxidant enzyme system in kidney of young and old mice. Both young and old mice, aged 2 and 26 months old, respectively, were divided into the sedentary and swimming-trained groups. The trained mice underwent a 6-week swimming program (1 h/day, 5 days/week) in water at 35-36 degrees C. Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase (Cu,Zn-SOD) activity was significantly decreased with aging but was not influenced by swimming training, such changes being similar to those noted for catalase activity rather than for glutathione peroxidase activity. After swimming training Mn-SOD activity increased significantly only in old mice but was unaffected by aging. Although neither aging nor swimming training had overt effect on the expression of Cu,Zn-SOD mRNA, the immunoreactive Cu,Zn-SOD content in young mice decreased significantly after the training. Meanwhile, Mn-SOD mRNA expression in old mice was reduced by half after swimming training, accompanied by a significant decrease in its immunoreactive content; unexpectedly, however, Mn-SOD content in young mice did not parallel its mRNA expression. These findings suggest that the antioxidant enzyme system in mouse kidney trends to be down-regulated with aging, and that swimming training fails to attenuate such reduced levels of the antioxidant enzymes.  相似文献

These studies investigated whether endogenous activation of CCK(A) receptors mediates the expression of amphetamine (AMP)-induced locomotor activity. In Experiment 1, locomotor activity was assessed in rats pretreated with the CCK(A) antagonist devazepide (0.001, 0.01, and 0.1 mg/kg) and subsequently injected with AMP (1.5 mg/kg). In Experiment 2, rats were administered AMP (1.5 mg/kg) once daily for 7 days. Following a 10-day withdrawal, locomotor activity was assessed following treatment with devazepide (0.001, 0.01, and 0.1 mg/kg) and AMP (0.75 mg/kg). In both studies, rats were classified as low (LR) or high (HR) responders based upon a median split of their locomotor response to a novel environment. Results from Experiment 1 showed that AMP potentiated the expression of locomotor activity, and this effect was most pronounced in HR rats. However, devazepide did not affect AMP-induced locomotion. Results from Experiment 2 demonstrated that chronic AMP pretreatment augmented the locomotor response to subsequent AMP challenge, and this effect was most pronounced in the HR group. Further, this augmented response was blocked by devazepide in HR rats. These findings constitute the first demonstration that endogenous CCK(A) receptor activation is an important substrate mediating AMP-induced locomotor activity in animals with a previous history of AMP treatment.  相似文献

The influence of CGP 37849, a competitive antagonist of NMDA, receptors and desipramine (DMI) on the density of beta-adrenergic receptors in rats exposed to the forced swimming test was investigated. CGP 37849 (10 mg/kg) and DMI (15 mg/kg), given twice to rats (24 h apart), or the forced swimming test alone failed to alter the density of beta-adrenergic receptors in the rat cortex, as tested using [3H]dihydroalprenolol ([3H]DHA). However, in rats injected with CGP 37849 (10 mg/kg) or DMI (15 mg/kg) and exposed to the forced swimming test, it was found that the density of beta-adrenergic receptors in the cortex was decreased. It was also observed that CGP 37849 used in a dose which decreased the density of beta-adrenergic receptors reduced the immobility time in a manner similar to DMI. It is concluded that CGP 37849 may evoke similar adaptive receptor changes as anti-depressant drugs which-in turn-suggests antidepressant-like properties of CGP 37849.  相似文献

The effects of training in a hypobaric chamber on aerobic metabolism were studied in five high performance triathletes. During 3 weeks, the subjects modified their usual training schedule (approximately 30 h a week), replacing three sessions of bicycling exercise by three sessions on a cycle ergometer in a hypobaric chamber simulating an altitude of 4,000 m (462 mm Hg). Prior to and after training in the hypobaric chamber the triathletes performed maximal and submaximal exercise in normoxia and hypoxia (462 mm g). Respiratory and cardiac parameters were recorded during exercise. Lactacidaemia was measured during maximal exercise. Blood samples were drawn once a week to monitor blood cell parameters and erythropoetin concentrations. Training in the hypobaric chamber had no effect on erythropoiesis, the concentrations of erythropoetin always remaining unchanged, and no effect on the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and maximal aerobic capacity measured in normoxia or hypoxia. Submaximal performance increased by 34% during a submaximal exhausting exercise performed at a simulated altitude of 2,000 m. During a submaximal nonexhausting test, ventilation values tended to decrease for similar exercise intensities after training in hypoxia. The changes in these parameters and the improved performance found for submaximal exercise may have been the result of changes taking place in muscle tissue or the result of training the respiratory muscles.  相似文献

The neomycin phosphotransferase (neo) gene is one of the most common marker genes used in gene transfer experimentation, but potential effects of neo gene expression in vivo have not been systematically investigated. Several early clinical retroviral gene transfer studies have suggested that neo gene expression could have deleterious effects on hematopoiesis, owing to a discrepancy between the level of neo-marked transduced marrow progenitor cells compared with mature circulating progeny cells posttransplantation (Brenner et al., 1993; Kohn et al., 1995; Brenner, 1996b). We examined the long-term in vivo repopulating ability of bone marrow from transgenic mice expressing neo from a strong constitutive promoter using a competitive repopulation assay. Different ratios of neo transgenic and wild-type congenic marrow cells were cotransplanted into W/Wv recipient mice. The percentages of blood cells containing the neo transgene in each group of recipient mice monitored for 4 months posttransplantation closely matched the input ratios of neo transgenic to congenic control marrow cells. Similar concordances of engraftment with input ratios of neo transgenic cells were also found in spleen, thymus, and whole marrow of recipient mice at 4 months posttransplantation. Analysis of the beta-hemoglobin phenotype (beta(single) for the neo transgenic and C57 control cells and beta(diffuse) for the congenic competitor HW80 cells) in recipients confirmed erythroid repopulation from neo transgenic marrow cells at levels matching the input ratios. We conclude that hematopoietic cells expressing neo had no engraftment or maturation defects detectable in vivo. These results suggest that the low-level contribution of vector-marked cells to circulating populations in clinical trials is not due to direct deleterious effects of neo gene expression on hematopoiesis.  相似文献

We determined the effect of the timing of glucose supplementation on fractional muscle protein synthetic rate (FSR), urinary urea excretion, and whole body and myofibrillar protein degradation after resistance exercise. Eight healthy men performed unilateral knee extensor exercise (8 sets/approximately 10 repetitions/approximately 85% of 1 single maximal repetition). They received a carbohydrate (CHO) supplement (1 g/kg) or placebo (Pl) immediately (t = 0 h) and 1 h (t = +1 h) postexercise. FSR was determined for exercised (Ex) and control (Con) limbs by incremental L-[1-13C]leucine enrichment into the vastus lateralis over approximately 10 h postexercise. Insulin was greater (P < 0.01) at 0.5, 0.75, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and 2 h, and glucose was greater (P < 0.05) at 0.5 and 0.75 h for CHO compared with Pl condition. FSR was 36.1% greater in the CHO/Ex leg than in the CHO/Con leg (P = not significant) and 6.3% greater in the Pl/Ex leg than in the Pl/Con leg (P = not significant). 3-Methylhistidine excretion was lower in the CHO (110.43 +/- 3.62 mumol/g creatinine) than P1 condition (120.14 +/- 5.82, P < 0.05) as was urinary urea nitrogen (8.60 +/- 0.66 vs. 12.28 +/- 1.84 g/g creatinine, P < 0.05). This suggests that CHO supplementation (1 g/kg) immediately and 1 h after resistance exercise can decrease myofibrillar protein breakdown and urinary urea excretion, resulting in a more positive body protein balance.  相似文献

In resistance training, it has been empirically accepted that muscle hypertrophy is developed by low intensity and high volume training, while muscle strength and power are developed by high intensity and low volume training. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of two different modes of resistance training on isokinetic strength and muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) in females. Eleven females, who had no experience in resistance training, participated in this study and were randomly divided into two groups. The former consisted of 4-5 sets of 15-20 RM (repetition maximum) with sufficient rest between sets (Group H), while the latter consisted of 8-9 sets of 4-6R M with 90 s of rest between sets (Group S). The former was assumed to be appropriate for muscle hypertrophy and the latter muscle strength, respectively. All subjects completed isotonic knee extension exercise three times a week for 8 weeks. Measurements were made on quadriceps muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and isokinetic torques at 0, 60, 180, and approximately 300 degrees before training, at the fifth week and the end of training period. Muscle CSA was defined as the sum of CSA measured at 30, 50 and 70% of femur length. After training, muscle CSA had significantly increased in both groups: 3.3 +/- 0.7% (p < .05) for group H and 3.6 +/- 1.1% (p < .05) for group S, respectively. While the changes in isokinetic torque were 43.4 +/- 47.5% (p < .05) for group H and 27.4 +/- 31.3% (p < .05) for group S, respectively. In both groups the percentage changes of the isokinetic strength were significantly higher than those of the CSA. No significant difference in these variables were found between the two groups. These results suggest that during the early phase of resistance training two different modes of resistance training may have similar effects on muscle CSA and isokinetic strength in untrained females.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate muscle bioenergetics, muscle cross-sectional area (CSA), and soreness when the gastrocnemius was subjected to concentric and concentric/eccentric resistance training modes. DESIGN: Prospective study, before and after training. The subjects served as their own controls. SETTING: Rehabilitation center and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy unit of a university hospital. PARTICIPANTS: Sixteen healthy young volunteers from the local physiotherapist school. INTERVENTION: Two distinct resistive training programs were evaluated on the gastrocnemius: a protocol consisting of concentric contractions only and a mixed concentric/eccentric program. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Maximal isometric resistance was measured after each training session. Before and after training, muscle CSA was appreciated using magnetic resonance imaging, whereas changes in muscle pH, phosphorus metabolite ratios, maximal oxidative power (Pmax), and oxidative phosphorylation were studied using 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy at rest and during an incremental exercise protocol. RESULTS: Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a significant increase (7.1%) in the gastrocnemius CSA in the concentric-eccentric group only. The PCr/Pi (8.3 +/- 0.9 vs 10.4 +/- 1.7) and PCr/ATP (3.68 +/- .36 vs 4.07 +/- .27) resting ratios increased significantly (p = .008) after concentric-eccentric resistance training. Pmax was significantly improved in the concentric-eccentric group (7.0 +/- 2.1W vs 8.4 +/- 1.8W: p < .02). This mixed protocol also reduced the incidence of muscular soreness. CONCLUSION: The data suggest that the improved oxidative mechanical power output could be due mainly to a greater muscle cross-section in the concentric-eccentric group, with circumstantial evidence suggesting a relatively higher type IIa fiber activity.  相似文献

The research goal was to attempt to clarify the consequences of increased strength on performance at submaximal exercise intensities. Eight subjects (4 males, 4 females) completed a 3-d.wk-1, 16-wk resistance training regimen. After training, upper (bench press, BP) and lower (parallel squat, PS) extremity strength were increased by 23% and 37%, respectively. Performance at the same absolute work rates as before training was increased by 30-159% following training depending on intensity and type of exercise. Performance at the same relative work rates (80%, 60%, 40%) remained unchanged by the training for both exercises. Prior to training, PS repetitions at 40% were correlated (r = 0.69, P < 0.05) with the percentage of slow-twitch (ST) fibers in the vastus lateralis muscle. There were similar relationships at 40% (r = 0.73) and at 60% (r = 0.83) for the PS exercise after training. However, the resistance program did not result in greater relative submaximal performance in individuals with a higher percentage of ST fibers. We conclude that strength improvement of up to 40% does not produce a strength-related performance deficit, when training and testing procedures are identical. Yet, these data do not rule out the potential of a strength-related repetition performance deficit. When subjects were equally divided by strength levels, those tested at the highest absolute resistance had significantly lower bench press repetition performance at 60% and 40% of the 1-RM than the subjects tested at the lowest absolute resistance.  相似文献

In vitro affinity tests were conducted to test the effectiveness of 19 activated carbons (ACs), hydrates sodium calcium aluminosilicate (HSCAS) and sepiolite (S) in binding ochratoxin A (OA) and deoxynivalenol (DON) from solution. Relationships between adsorption ability and physicochemical parameters of ACs (surface area, iodine number, methylene blue index) were tested. When 5 ml of a 4-micrograms/ml aqueous solution of OA was treated with 2 mg of AC, the ACs adsorbed 0.80 to 99.86% of the OA. HSCAS and S were not effective in binding OA. In two saturation tests carried out with increased amounts of OA (5 ml of 10-and 50-micrograms/ml aqueous solutions of OA, respectively) three ACs also showed high adsorption ability (adsorbing 92.23 to 96.57% of the OA). When 5 ml of a 4-micrograms/ml aqueous solution of DON was treated with 10 mg of AC, ACs adsored 1.83 to 98.93% of the DON. HSCAS and S were not effective in binding DON. An overall relation of adsorption ability to the physicochemical parameters of ACs was observed. The methylene blue index was more reliable than iodine number and surface area in predicting ability of ACs to adsorb OA and DON. Based on the data observed on the xxxxx eh present study as well as on aflatoxin B1 and fumonisin B1 from previous studies, it is concluded that ACs have high in vitro affinity for chemically different mycotoxins, and can be considered as potential multi-mycotoxin-sequestering agents. However, the ability to bind the main mycotoxins singly or in combination should be confirmed by in vivo investigations. Moreover, information on the amounts of AC to be added to feeds, and on the possible long-term effect on absorption of essential nutrients are needed.  相似文献

The current study was designed to test the hypothesis that endurance training improves the ability of the diaphragm muscle to resist exercise-induced oxidative stress. Twenty-eight male Wistar rats were assigned to either untrained or trained groups. Trained rats were treadmill-trained for 9 wk. Each group was subdivided into acutely exercised or nonexercised groups. Diaphragm muscle from each rat was analyzed to determine the levels of certain antioxidant enzymes: Mn-superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase (Cu,Zn-SOD), glutathione peroxidase, and catalase. In addition, interleukin-1 and myeloperoxidase levels were determined. Endurance training upregulated all of the antioxidant enzymes. Conversely, acute exercise increased glutathione peroxidase and catalase in untrained rats, while it had no overt effect on any antioxidant enzymes in trained rats. Both Mn-SOD and Cu,Zn-SOD contents and activities were increased with endurance training. However, the mRNA expressions of both forms of SOD did not show any significant change with endurance training. Acute exercise also increased the levels of interleukin-1 and myeloperoxidase in untrained rats but not in trained rats. Moreover, acute exercise significantly increased the ability of neutrophils to produce superoxide, especially in untrained rats. The results from this study demonstrate that endurance training can upregulate certain antioxidant enzyme activities in rat diaphragm muscle, indicating the potential for improvement of the resistance to intracellular reactive oxygen species. The results of this study also suggest that acute exercise may cause oxidative damage in rat diaphragm through the activation of the inflammatory pathway and that endurance training may minimize such an extracellular oxidative stress by acute exercise.  相似文献

The declines in functional capacity and muscle function with advancing age are well-documented. In addition, it appears that the age-related changes in body composition have profound effects on functional capacity and nutrient requirements. The overwhelming evidence presented in the present review suggests that the loss of muscle strength and function observed with advancing age is reversible even in the frail elderly. Along with the profound functional improvement in older individuals in response to progressive-resistance training, several studies have reported increases in resting energy expenditure and increased requirements for dietary protein. Exercise programmes designed to improve muscle strength be recommended for older individuals as an effective countermeasure to the sarcopenia of old age.  相似文献
