Technological progress in Terahertz (THz) instrumentation in recent years has produced commercial THz systems with excellent performance, smaller footprint, easier to use operation and more reliable than their homemade laboratory predecessors. Form factor, weight, and data rate are, perhaps, the parameters that have shown the highest improvements in recent years. These parameters also have a major impact on practical application outside the laboratory environment. However, gaps still exists between proof of concepts demonstrated in the laboratory and application requirements in a real environment. The readiness of a technology can be assessed using the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) criterion, which considers nine readiness levels starting from basic concepts at TRL=1 up to full deployment at TRL=9. Applications of THz technology in spectroscopic characterization score high in TRL (7-9) because most of the progress of THz technology has been mainly focused in developing THz instrumentation for spectroscopy. Applications of THz for non-destructive evaluation applications score lower (TRL 5-6) due to higher requirements in terms of performance, especially data rate and form factor in imaging applications. Applications in the medical field have been studied with promising results but they are still in early stages of development, thus, TRL is low (1-4). The progress in THz technology is generating systems with better performance (faster acquisition rates, higher signal-to-noise ratio, bandwidth), broader availability of form factors and configurations, and tighter integration with particular applications. This progress will reduce the gap between the capabilities of the technology and the high-demanding requirements of applications in environments such as quality control and in-line production control in the manufacturing industry.  相似文献

We consider the problem of resource allocation for data transfer between the base station and the users within a cell of a wireless telecommunication network with infinite data queues for each user. The aim is to study the tradeoff between the conflicting objectives of maximizing the system throughput and the quality of service (QoS) to an individual user. Using a policy improvement approach based on Markov decision processes, we develop an intuitive and easy-to-implement index policy. We also demonstrate its superior performance over the existing proportional fair metric algorithm through simulation experiments.  相似文献

With the development of cloud computing technology, smart city and mobile office and emergence of mobile smart devices, the resources' environment is increasing complex. The traditional access control model has been difficult to meet the diverse access control requirements and the dynamic and adaptive access control policy. A dynamic and adap-tive access control model combining the resource life cycle management based on ABAC was proposed. The model fo-cused on resource life cycle management considering the relevance of the resource life cycle management and access control policy. In this model, the policy can be changed as the resource life cycle states' change, so the applicability has been improved. In addition, the user access behavior history management function was added in this model, which can adapt the environment better by considering history of user access behavior. At last, the model in general and cloud com-puting access control system was implemented and verified.  相似文献

A distributed approach to railway traffic control is described. The approach overcomes the upper bounds imposed on the size of controlled areas by the requirement for real-time processing when centralized methodologies are applied. The control problem is modeled in terms of resource allocation tasks, and the concept of priority is generalized to rule local control decisions. The analysis of a global network's behavior, as derived from the integration of local microdecisions, prefigures a depletion effect which will protect the system from traffic jam collapses. Optimization of leakage power is essential for nanoscale CMOS (nano-CMOS) technology based integrated circuits for numerous reasons, including improving battery life of the system in which they are used as well as enhancing reliability. Leakage optimization at an early stage of the design cycle such as the register-transfer level (RTL) or architectural level provides more degrees of freedom to design engineers and ensures that the design is optimized at higher levels before proceeding to the next and more detailed phases of the design cycle. In this paper, an RTL optimization approach is presented that targets leakage-power optimization while performing simultaneous scheduling, allocation and binding. The optimization approach uses a nature-inspired firefly algorithm so that large digital integrated circuits can be effectively handled without convergence issues. The firefly algorithm optimizes the cost of leakage delay product (LDP) under various resource constraints. As a specific example, gate-oxide leakage is optimized using a 45 nm CMOS dual-oxide based pre-characterized datapath library. Experimental results over various architectural level benchmark integrated circuits show that average leakage optimization of 90% can be obtained. For a comparative perspective, an integer linear programming (ILP) based algorithm is also presented and it is observed that the firefly algorithm is as accurate as ILP while converging much faster. To the best of the authors׳ knowledge, this is the first ever paper that applies firefly based algorithms for RTL optimization.  相似文献

Conventional hyperspectral image-based automatic target recognition (ATR) systems project high-dimensional reflectance signatures onto a lower dimensional subspace using techniques such as principal components analysis (PCA), Fisher's linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and stepwise LDA. Typically, these feature space projections are suboptimal. In a typical hyperspectral ATR setup, the number of training signatures (ground truth) is often less than the dimensionality of the signatures. Standard dimensionality reduction tools such as LDA and PCA cannot be applied in such situations. In this paper, we present a divide-and-conquer approach that addresses this problem for robust ATR. We partition the hyperspectral space into contiguous subspaces based on the optimization of a performance metric. We then make local classification decisions in every subspace using a multiclassifier system and employ a decision fusion system for making the final decision on the class label. In this work, we propose a metric that incorporates higher order statistical information for accurate partitioning of the hyperspectral space. We also propose an adaptive weight assignment method in the decision fusion process based on the strengths (as measured by the training accuracies) of individual classifiers that made the local decisions. The proposed methods are tested using hyperspectral data with known ground truth, such that the efficacy can be quantitatively measured in terms of target recognition accuracies. The proposed system was found to significantly outperform conventional approaches. For example, under moderate pixel mixing, the proposed approach resulted in classification accuracies around 90%, where traditional feature fusion resulted in accuracies around 65%.  相似文献

This paper presents a model that determines the optimal budget allocation strategy for the development of new technologies, for safety-critical systems, over multiple decision periods. The case of the development of a hypersonic passenger airplane is used as an illustration. The model takes into account both the probability of technology development success as a function of the allocated budget and the probability of operational performance of the final system. It assumes that the strategy is to consider (and possibly fund) several approaches to the development of each technology to maximize the probability of development success. The model, thus, decomposes the system's development process into multiple technology development modules (one for each technology needed), each involving a number of alternative projects. There is a tradeoff between development speed and operational reliability when the budget must be allocated among alternative technology projects with different probabilities of development success and operational reliability (e.g., an easily and quickly developed technology may have little robustness). The probabilities of development and operational failures are balanced by a risk analysis approach, which allows the decision maker to optimize the budget allocation among different projects in the development program, at the beginning of each budget period. The model indicates that by considering reliability in the R&D management process, the decision maker can make better decisions, optimizing the balance between development time, cost, and robustness of safety-critical systems.  相似文献
