Complex observation and treatment of 112 patients with compressive-reflex syndromes of cervical osteochondrosis with pain as the leading clinical manifestation resulted in elaboration of the scheme of its pathogenesis. The main means and methods of the correction of algesic syndrome development were determined on the basis of both own investigations and literary data. The peculiarity of this study was the inclusion of Xydiphone (the Russian-made drug from complexons group) in pathogenetic therapy. Its positive medical effect in treatment of the disease described was established.

Adult mosquitoes were collected from 3 areas in northern Thailand with different availabilities of rice fields for larval habitats by using blacklight, truck, and pig-baited traps. Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles and Culex gelidus Theobald were dominant in all samples. Significant study-area differences were found in light and truck trap collections for Cx. tritaeniorhynchus and Cx. gelidus, but not for Culex vishnui Theobald + Culex pseudovishnui Colless. In pig-baited sample area differences were significant only for Cx. gelidus. Adults of Culex fuscocephala Theobald were relatively rare, comprising only 0.6-7.9% of the total mosquitoes collected. When compared with the results from previous studies in the Chiangmai area, we conclude that Cx. fuscocephala has become a minor species and that changes in the mosquito fauna have occurred in northern Thailand.

This research is in the form of a quantitative study aimed at discovering 'What registered nurses and midwives feel and know about research'. Data were gathered on a fixed response questionnaire, with open spaces for comments to support the results with written factual qualitative evidence. The questionnaire was directed towards obtaining results associated with 'Attitudes' towards research; 'Understandings' about research, and 'Obstacles' to implementing research. A sampling technique was used in which a total population of 765 registered nurses and midwives working in this district general hospital were involved in the study. The results demonstrate (inferential statistics chi-square and correlation tests) that registered nurses and midwives are largely in agreement with research based practices, although understanding about research is minimal and dependent on grade, length qualified, shifts and numbers of hours worked.

The use of endoscopic nasal surgery for debulking ethmoidal fibrous dysplasia, blocking the right ostiomeatal complex is presented. Removal of the obstructing bony mass was done by ear curette and drills. The procedure was limited to the ostiomeatal complex in order not to violate the orbital contents. The advantages of this method over the external approach are outlined in this paper.

Toward a career psychology of women: What do we know? What do we need to know?

Reviews what is presently known in salient areas of theory, knowledge, attitudes, and techniques and outlines the various areas of expertise that should be required of those engaged in career counseling with women. Theories of career choice, career maturity, and achievement motivation are discussed, and socio-psychological information about women and the work world, sex bias in vocational interest inventories, and the reliability and relevance of career information about women are surveyed. Counselor biases and influences of client socialization reflect stereotypic attitudes limiting career choices by women. It is recommended that courses on the special needs of women be included in the training of career counselors and that counselors should actively encourage women to examine their positions and needs and to consider nontraditional careers. Assessed information people want about psychotherapy, and the effect of prior exposure to a written consent form on preferences for information. 108 adults, half of whom had received a written informed consent form, answered an open-ended question about their preferences for information. Ss most frequently asked for information about the therapist, especially personal characteristics. Least frequently cited were items concerning appointments, alternatives, and confidentiality. Ss exposed to the written consent form were more likely to ask about confidentiality and financial arrangements and, if they had not had previous therapy experience, were less likely to ask about personal characteristics of the therapist.
