Heritabilities and genetic and phenotypic correlations among yields of milk, fat, protein, and percentages of fat and protein were estimated from 40,984 first lactation records of daughters of 488 young and 75 proven Holstein sires using multivariate REML and a sire model accounting for relationships and sire groups. Proven sires were treated as fixed effects. Heritabilities for yields of milk, fat, protein, and percentages of fat and protein were .29, .31, .25, .65, and .61, respectively. Genetic correlations of milk with yields of fat, protein, and percentages of fat and protein and correlations of fat yield with fat percentage were .45, .79, -.49, -.54 and .56, respectively. Genetic correlations among yields and among percentage of fat and protein were the same (.62). Genetic and phenotypic correlations of protein percentage with fat and protein yields and correlations of fat percentages with protein yield were small (-.13 to .11). Phenotypic correlations were .73 to .90 among yields of milk, fat, and protein; -.31 for milk and fat percentage; -.39 for milk and protein percentage; and .38 for fat yield and fat percentage. Estimates were consistent with an earlier study utilizing data from the same population and also with other reports.  相似文献

Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy analysis of forages for CP, ADF, NDF, and minerals was compared with wet chemistry results. Infrared analysis was conducted with a NEO-Tech 51A where spectral equations had been transferred by the vendor from master calibrations. These calibrations were based upon microwave drying of feed samples and grinding through a cyclone mill. Our forage testing laboratory routinely tests by oven drying at 60°C and grinding with a Wiley mill through a 2-mm screen. Protein and ADF analyses were conducted on 66 corn silage, hay crop silage, and hay samples. Coefficients of determination for oven drying-wet chemistry and microwave-infrared, oven drying-wet chemistry and oven drying-infrared, and microwave-infrared and oven drying-infrared analysis were: .90, .93, and .98 for crude protein and .92, .94, and .96 for ADF. Infrared results were compared with wet chemistry CP and ADF for 265 corn silage, hay, and hay crop silage samples. Coefficients of determination were .97 for CP and .95 for ADF with standard errors of prediction of .92 and 1.98. The respective correlation coefficients for corn silage, hay crop silage, and hay were .94 and .73; .95 and .92; and .73 and .74. Although standard errors of prediction were low for all minerals, coefficients of determination were above .80 for Ca and K.  相似文献

Probiotic food is manufactured by adding probiotic strains simultaneously with starter cultures in fermentation tanks. Here, we investigate the accuracy and feasibility of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) for bacterial identification at the species level in probiotic food and yoghurts. Probiotic food and yoghurts were cultured in Columbia and Lactobacillus specific agar and tested by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) for the detection and quantification of Lactobacillus sp. Bacterial identification was performed by MALDI-TOF analysis and by amplification and sequencing of tuf and 16S rDNA genes. We tested 13 probiotic food and yoghurts and we identified by qPCR that they presented 10(6) to 10(7) copies of Lactobacillus spp. DNA/g. All products contained very large numbers of living bacteria varying from 10(6) to 10(9) colony forming units/g. These bacteria were identified as Lactobacillus casei, Lactococcus lactis, Bifidobacterium animalis, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, and Streptococcus thermophilus. MALDI-TOF MS presented 92% specificity compared to the molecular assays. In one product we found L. lactis, instead of Bifidus spp. which was mentioned on the label and for another L. delbrueckii and S. thermophilus instead of Bifidus spp. MALDI-TOF MS allows a rapid and accurate bacterial identification at the species level in probiotic food and yoghurts. Although the safety and functionality of probiotics are species and strain dependent, we found a discrepancy between the bacterial strain announced on the label and the strain identified. Practical Application: MALDI-TOF MS is rapid and specific for the identification of bacteria in probiotic food and yoghurts. Although the safety and functionality of probiotics are species and strain dependent, we found a discrepancy between the bacterial strain announced on the label and the strain identified.  相似文献

High metal contamination in toys and low-cost jewelry is a widespread problem, and metals can become bioavailable, especially via oral pathway due to common child-specific behaviors of mouthing and pica. In this review, the U.S., Canadian, and European Union (EU) legislations on metals in toys and jewelry are evaluated. A literature review on content, bioavailability, children's exposure, and testing of metals in toys and low-cost jewelry is provided. A list of priority metals is presented, and research needs and legislative recommendations are addressed. While the U.S. and Canadian legislations put emphasis on lead exposure prevention, other toxic elements like arsenic and cadmium in toy materials are not regulated except in paint and coatings. The EU legislation is more comprehensive in terms of contaminants and scientific approach. Current toy testing procedures do not fully consider metal bioavailability. In vitro bioaccessibility tests developed and validated for toys and corresponding metal bioaccessibility data in different toy matrices are lacking. The U.S. and Canadian legislations should put more emphasis on metal bioavailability and on other metals in addition to lead. A two-step management approach with mandatory testing of toys for total metal concentrations followed by voluntary bioaccessibility testing could be implemented.  相似文献

Two samples of data from approximately 4000 Holstein cows were analyzed by REML with a multivariate (milk and fat yields) animal model for first lactations started in 1970 through 1977 and in 1978 through 1985 and also for first lactation records started in low, middle, and high production herds in 1978 through 1985 separately for California, New York, and Wisconsin herds. Heritability estimates for milk yield (similar for fat yield) ignoring category of herd production were .29 for 1978 and later and .34 for 1977 and earlier. Estimates for low, middle, and high production herds were .23, .29, and .36. Estimates of genetic correlation between milk and fat averaged .62 for 1978 and later and .73 for 1977 and earlier; for 1978 and later these estimates were greater for California than for New York and Wisconsin, .70 vs. .58 overall. Phenotypic and environmental variances associated with low production herds were less than for middle and high production herds, but differences between middle and high herds varied by state and sample. The pattern of estimates of genetic and environmental parameters suggests that differences between California, New York, and Wisconsin are not very important for genetic evaluation procedures. Production of herds does seem important.  相似文献

Genetic parameters were estimated in a joint analysis of log(e)-transformed somatic cell count (TSCC) with either mastitis as a binary trait (MAS) or the number of mastitis cases (NMAS) in Holstein-Friesian cows for the first 3 lactations using a random regression model. In addition, a multi-trait analysis of MAS and NMAS was also implemented. There were 67,175, 30,617, and 16,366 cows with records for TSCC, MAS, and NMAS in lactations 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The frequency of MAS was 14, 20, and 25% in lactations 1, 2, and 3 respectively. The model for TSCC included herd-test-day, age at calving and month of calving, fixed lactation curves nested with calving year groups, and random regressions with Legendre polynomials of order 2 for animal and permanent environmental effects. The model for MAS and NMAS included fixed herd-year-season, age at calving and month of calving, and random animal and permanent environmental effects. All analyses were carried out using Gibbs sampling. Estimates of mean daily heritability averaged over a 305-d lactation were 0.11, 0.14, and 0.15 for TSCC for lactations 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Corresponding heritability estimates for MAS were 0.05, 0.07, and 0.09. The heritabilities for NMAS were similar at 0.06, 0.07, and 0.12, respectively, for lactations 1, 2, and 3. The genetic correlations between lactations 1 and 2, 1 and 3, and 2 and 3 were 0.75, 0.64, and 0.92 for computed 305-d lactation TSCC; 0.55, 0.48, and 0.89 for MAS; and 0.62, 0.42, and 0.85 for NMAS, respectively. The genetic correlations between MAS and TSCC were positive and generally moderate to high. The genetic correlations between computed 305-d lactation TSCC and MAS were 0.53, 0.61, and 0.68 in lactations 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Similar corresponding genetic correlations were obtained between computed 305-d lactation TSCC and NMAS in the respective parities. Mastitis as a binary trait and NMAS in the same lactation were very highly correlated and were genetically the same trait. It is intended that the new parameters will be used in setting up a national evaluation system for the joint analysis of TSCC and MAS.  相似文献
