A Spatial interpolation technique for the upsampling of uniform circular arrays (UCAs), beyond spatial aliasing, is considered. The UCA interpolation algorithm is used as a preprocessing procedure in the reverse link to improve the performance of a cellular code division multiple access (CDMA) system. The motivation is to enhance the system's capacity and array resolution and reduce the fading and coupling effects with minimal receiver hardware and cost. At the base station, we propose to place the antenna elements uniformly on an imaginary circumference farther apart than/2, where is the free-space wavelength. The resulting UCA possesses superior resolution, less coupling effects than a corresponding UCA with the same number of elements and circumferential spacing less than or equal to/2, and possibly higher diversity gain. In order to increase the system's capacity and eliminate any spatial aliasing, we propose to interpolate the UCA to within the spatial Nyquist rate. This is achieved by placing a virtual antenna element halfway on the circumference between every two adjacent antenna elements. Simulations results are provided to support our claims.  相似文献

We investigate multiuser signal detection with a base-station antenna array for a synchronous DS-CDMA uplink using nonorthogonal codes in Rayleigh fading channels. We have developed a new formulation for a spatial-temporal decorrelating detector using the maximum-likelihood criteria. The detector is shown to be near-far resistant. We propose to implement the spatial-temporal decorrelating receiver iteratively by applying the space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) algorithm. Simulation results show that the SAGE-based decorrelating receiver significantly outperforms the conventional single-user receiver and with performance close to that of a spatial-temporal decorrelating receiver with known channel parameters. We have observed that adding base-station antennas can actually improve convergence of the proposed iterative receiver  相似文献

Multipath induced interchip-interference (ICI) alters waveforms of transmitted signals and presents a major obstacle to direct-sequence (DS) code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) communications. For systems with aperiodic pseudorandom (PN) spreading sequences, the primary way to counter fading is through employing RAKE receivers that enhance the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) by combining multipath signals from the desired user. In this paper, we formulate a discrete-time model for antenna array CDMA systems and study the 2-D RAKE receiver problem by casting it into an optimum vector FIR equalizer design and estimation framework. A novel aspect of the present work is the full exploitation of the potential of 2-D RAKE receivers without requiring any detailed knowledge of the multipath channels  相似文献

We evaluate using simulation studies the performance of several schemes for combining base station antenna array signals in wireless direct sequence code-division multiple access (DS/CDMA). The results indicate that under certain assumptions, on multiple access interference statistics, the probability of error of modified rank test (MRT) is lower than that of equal gain combining (EGG), if a few high power interfering users are present along with a low power user of interest. If there are a moderately large number of users, and if the received power of all the users are nearly the same, then EGC out performs MRT. In fact, under this condition, the performance of EGC is close to that of the optimal likelihood ratio test (LRT)  相似文献

Blind beamforming based on the maximum signal-to-noise ratio (MSNR) can improve the performance of an array system only when the processing gain of the given code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system is high enough such that the desired signal can become dominant after despreading (see Choi, S. and Shim, D., IEEE Trans. Veh. Technol., vol.49, p.1793-1806, 2000; Choi, S. and Yun, D., IEEE Trans. Antennas Propagat., vol.45, p.1393-1404, 1997). We consider a maximum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (MSINR) beamforming. The MSINR performance criterion is chosen to deal with strong interferers effectively. It is shown that blind MSINR beamforming is possible by directly utilizing the input and output signals of correlators of the CDMA systems. In addition, we propose an adaptive beamforming algorithm at a lower computational complexity - about O(7.5N) - where N is the number of antenna elements of the array system. Simulation results are presented in various signal environments to show the performance of the proposed adaptive algorithm.  相似文献

Fast adaptive blind beamforming algorithm for antenna array in CDMA systems   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In this paper, the maximum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (MSINR) beamforming problem in antenna-array CDMA systems is considered. In this paper, a modified MSINR criterion presented in a previous paper is interpreted as an unconstrained scalar cost function. By applying recursive least squares (RLS) to minimize the cost function, a novel blind adaptive beamforming algorithm to estimate the beamforming vector, which optimally combines the desired signal contributions from different antenna elements while suppressing noise and interference, is derived. Neither the knowledge of the channel conditions (fading coefficients, signature sequences and timing of interferers, statistics of other noises, etc.) nor training sequence is required. Compared with previously published adaptive beamforming algorithms based on the stochastic-gradient method, it has faster convergence and better tracking capability in the time-varying environment. Simulation results in various signal environments are presented to show the performance of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

We consider the adaptive receiver for multirate code division multiple access (CDMA) systems under a fading channel environment. The main difficulty that arises in the use of the adaptive receiver for multirate CDMA systems is that the adaptation should resume after the rate change. Hence, the adaptive receiver may not provide a reasonable performance during the transient after the rate change. In order to overcome this difficulty, we investigate an approach that allows updating the weight vectors for all rates simultaneously. For example, in a dual-rate system, the weight vector for the lower rate (the higher rate) can be updated during the period of the higher rate (resp., the lower rate) to avoid the transient after the rate change. The resulting adaptive receiver has multiple parallel adaptive filters. The adaptive filters for each rate can carry out the adaptation simultaneously, regardless of what the current rate is. As a result, the performance is not degraded by the rate change.  相似文献

Adaptive linear and decision feedback receiver structures for coherent demodulation in asynchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) systems are considered. It is assumed that the adaptive receiver has no knowledge of the signature waveforms and timing of other users. The receiver is trained by a known training sequence prior to data transmission and continuously adjusted by an adaptive algorithm during data transmission. The proposed linear receiver is as simple as a standard single-user detector receiver consisting of a matched filter with constant coefficients, but achieves essential advantages with respect to timing recovery, multiple access interference elimination, near/far effect, narrowband and frequency-selective fading interference suppression, and user privacy. An adaptive centralized decision feedback receiver has the same advantages of the linear receiver but, in addition, achieves a further improvement in multiple access interference cancellation at the expense of higher complexity. The proposed receiver structures are tested by simulation over a channel with multipath propagation, multiple access interference, narrowband interference, and additive white Gaussian noise  相似文献

A new real-time, digital adaptive multiuser receiver structure is proposed for the uplink in a mobile communications system employing code division multiple access (CDMA). The receiver efficiently implements the decorrelating detector of Lupas and Verdu (1989) and can be adapted to incorporate decision feedback to further improve the detector performance. While the basic receiver design is presented for synchronous CDMA over AWGN channels, experimental evaluation of the receiver for the asynchronous case verifies its robustness for cases when the relative user delays are small compared to the symbol duration as in microcellular scenarios. An efficient decorrelating RAKE combiner for frequency-selective multipath channels is also proposed and analyzed. Performance evaluation of the detector via computer simulation scenarios is conducted in support of analytical results to substantiate its potential for real-time operation  相似文献

Interference cancelling receivers have been suggested as low complexity multiuser receivers for code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. A multi-element interference cancelling receiver is proposed, and it is demonstrated that using spatial information about the users will improve the performance of the receiver. Two blind algorithms are suggested to adaptively combine the outputs of the antenna elements. The performances of these algorithms are compared, and it is shown that without requiring any additional information, the receiver can spatially discriminate between the users and improve the error performance  相似文献

Optimum (in the sense of minimum-error probability) single-symbol diversity detection for fading, noisy channels is too complex for practical implementation. A simplified, near-optimum array receiver is proposed, which is based on the statistics (i.e., the covariance-function matrix) of the fading channel. This detector is then analyzed by calculating the exact error probability. When there is a spread of the direction of arrival of the incident radio waves, the proposed detector significantly gains over an adaptive antenna array (which forms a weighted sum of the received antenna signals). We propose a spatio-temporal array-receiver (STAR) for asynchronous code division multiple access (CDMA), using a new space/time structural approach. First, STAR performs blind identification and equalization of the propagation channel from each mobile transmitter. Second, it provides fast and accurate estimates of the number, relative magnitude, and delay of the multipath components. From this space/time separation, STAR reconstructs the identified channel with respect to a partially revealed space/time structure and reduces identification errors by the order of the ratio of the processing gain and the number of paths. Therefore, STAR offers a high potential for increasing capacity, with relatively low computational complexity. Using a transmit antenna array (TAA), the downlink beamforming is able to improve the performance of wireless communication systems. We propose a semiblind downlink beamforming method based on channel reciprocity of the wireless channels for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems equipped with TAA. In the proposed semiblind method, it is shown that the feedback delay can result in performance degradation under a time-varying fading channel environment. Hence, the performance of the semiblind method is satisfactory only when the maximum Doppler frequency is low or the feedback delay is not significant. To overcome this difficulty, the channel prediction is considered. Using the channel predictor, the semiblind method can provide a reasonable performance for a moderate maximum Doppler frequency (about a few hundred hertz). For theoretical performance analysis, upper, and lower bounds of the bit error probability under a fading channel environment are derived  相似文献

We propose and analyze a multiuser receiver using a decorrelating filter and Viterbi decoders for trellis-coded direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) systems with biorthogonal signal constellation in asynchronous channels. The biorthogonality is implemented by user signature waveforms and the decorrelating filter. The performance of the proposed system is investigated with emphasis on the asymptotic cases: it is shown that the proposed system provides us with some coding gain and near-far resistance. Capon multiuser receiver for CDMA systems with space-time coding   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
We present in this paper a linear blind multiuser receiver, referred to as the Capon receiver, for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems utilizing multiple transmit antennas and space-time (ST) block coding. The Capon receiver is designed by exploiting signal structures imposed by both spreading and ST coding. We highlight the unique ST coding induced structure, which is shown to be critical in establishing several analytical results, including self-interference (i.e., spatially mixed signals of the same user) cancellation, receiver output signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR), and blind channel estimation of the Capon receiver. To resolve the scalar ambiguity intrinsic to all blind schemes, we propose a semi-blind implementation of the Capon receiver, which capitalizes on periodically inserted pilots and the interference suppression ability of the Capon filters, for (slowly) time-varying channels. Numerical examples are presented to compare the Capon receiver with several other training-assisted and (semi-)blind receivers and to illustrate the performance gain of ST-coded CDMA systems over those without ST coding  相似文献
