The tribological behaviour of different monolithic and composite ceramics was evaluated in the temperature range between room temperature and 750°C. The test method was oscillating sliding with a ball‐on‐disk arrangement in an SRV machine. Alumina balls were used as counter body. The friction behaviour was determined on‐line, and the wear behaviour was determined from calculations on the basis of wear scar dimensions and profilometric measurements. The friction depends on temperature and shows an increase for most materials for increasing temperature; the smallest friction at all temperatures is found for monolithic TiC. The wear behaviour shows different trends for the different materials. In tests against SiC a maximum of wear is found at 500°C, for TiC at 200°C and for TiB2 at 750°C. The composite ceramics suffer the smallest wear of all materials in the range from 200°C to 500°C. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The composites of Ni–Cr–W–Al–Ti–MoS2 with different adding amount of molybdenum disulfide (6–20 wt.%) were prepared by powder metallurgy (P/M) method. Their mechanical properties and tribological properties from room temperature to 600 °C were tested by a pin-on-disk tribometer. The effects of amounts of molybdenum disulfide, temperature, load, and speed on the friction and wear properties of composite were discussed. Besides, the tribological properties against different counterface materials, such as alumina, silicon nitride and nickel-iron-sulfide alloys were also investigated. Results indicated that the molybdenum disulfide was decomposed during the hot-press process and the eutectic sulfides of chromium were formed. The hardness and anti-bending strength can be improved by adding 6 wt.% molybdenum disulfide due to reinforcement of molybdenum. The friction coefficients and wear rates of composites decrease with the increase of adding amount of molybdenum disulfide until a critical value of 12 wt.%. The composite with 12% MoS2 shows the optimum friction and wear properties over the temperature range of RT 600 °C. The friction coefficients of composite with 12% MoS2 decrease with the increase of temperature, load, and sliding speed, while the wear rates increase with the increasing temperature and are insensitive to the sliding speed and load. The friction coefficients of less than 0.20 at 600 °C and mean wear rates of 10−5 mm3/N m are obtained when rubbing against alumina due to the lubrication of sulfide films and glaze layer formed on the friction surface at high temperature, while a relatively low wear rate of around 10−6 mm3/N m presents when rubbing against nickel-iron-sulfide alloys. At high temperature, wear rates of composite containing sulfide are inversely proportional to friction coefficients approximately.  相似文献

In this work, four ingots of Zn–40Al–2Cu–2Si alloy were produced by permanent mould casting. Two of the ingots were subjected to quench-ageing treatment. After examining the microstructure and some mechanical properties of the alloy in both as-cast and heat treated conditions, its friction and wear behaviour were investigated over a range of pressure and sliding speed using a conforming block-on-ring type machine without oil supply which corresponds to “oil cut off”.It was observed that the heat treatment increased the hardness and tensile strength of the alloy. It was also observed that in the case of oil cut off the friction coefficient of the alloy decreased with increasing pressure up to approximately 3 MPa above which the trend reversed. However, the friction coefficient increased with increasing sliding speed after showing a small decrease with it, and the temperature of the wear sample increased with both pressure and sliding speed. It was shown that the wear loss of the alloy increased exponentially with pressure, but linearly with sliding speed. However, the increase in wear loss with sliding speed became exponential at pressures above 4 MPa.As a result of this work, it was concluded that the quench-ageing treatment does not increase only the hardness and tensile strength of Zn–40Al–2Cu–2Si alloy but also its wear resistance during running without oil supply.  相似文献

The prior β grain structure and orientations in the central stir zone of friction stir–processed Ti–6Al–4V were reconstructed from measured α phase orientations obtained by three‐dimensional serial sectioning in a dual‐beam focused ion beam scanning electron microscope. The data were processed to obtain the α colony and β grain size distributions in the volume. Several β grains were individually analysed to determine the total number of unique α variants and the respective volume fractions of each. The analysis revealed that some grains experienced overwhelming variant selection (i.e. one variant dominated) whereas other β grains contained a more evenly distributed mixture of all 12 variants.  相似文献

In this investigation the microstructure and erosion–corrosion behaviour of a Fe–Cr–C overlay (FeCrC–matrix) produced by plasma transferred arc welding (PTA) and its metal matrix composite (FeCrC–MMC) were assessed. The FeCrC–MMC was obtained by the addition of 65 wt.% of tungsten carbide (WC). The erosion–corrosion tests (ECTs) were carried out using a submerged impinging jet (SIJ); after the ECTs the surface of the overlays was analysed to identify the damage mechanisms. Two different temperatures (20 and 65 °C) and sand concentrations (10 and 50 g/l) were used in a solution of 1000 ppm of Cl and a pH value of 8.5; the conditions were chosen to be representative of the recycling water in the tailings line in the oilsands industry. The FeCrC–matrix showed a dendritic structure and a high concentration of carbides in the interdendritic zone. The addition of the WC reinforcing phase promoted the formation of W-rich intermetallic phases, increased the microhardness values of the matrix phase of the FeCrC–MMC overlay and dramatically improved its erosion–corrosion performance as expected. For the FeCrC–matrix overlay the main erosion–corrosion degradation mechanisms were severe plastic deformation and the formation and removal of material flakes due to consecutive impacts. At 65 °C the dendritic zone was severely corroded in the area of low impact frequency. The FeCrC–MMC showed greater attack of the matrix phase compared to the WC grains; at high sand concentration the WC grains were severely fractured and flattened. The anodic polarisation analysis showed active corrosion behaviour of the FeCrC–MMC at both temperatures and sand concentrations; however the temperature dramatically increased the corrosion process of the surface studied under erosion–corrosion conditions. The paper assesses the degradation mechanisms of both FeCrC–matrix and FeCrC–MMC with the aim of understanding what aspects of MMCs must be adapted for optimum erosion–corrosion resistance.  相似文献
