Abstract— Several white‐OLED structures with a high color‐rendering index (CRI) were investigated for lighting applications. A two‐unit fluorescent/phosphorescent hybrid white OLED achieved an excellent CRI of 95, high luminous efficacy of 37 lm/W, and long lifetime of over 40,000 hours at 1000 cd/m2. White‐OLED lighting panels of 8 × 8 cm for high‐luminance operation were fabricated, and a stable emission at 3000 cd/m2 was confirmed. Quite a small variation in chromaticity in a different directions was achieved by using an optimized optical device structure. With a light‐outcoupling substrate, a higher efficacy of 56 lm/W, high CRI of 91, and longer half‐decay lifetime of over 150,000 hours at 1000 cd/m2 was achieved. All‐phosphorescent white OLEDs placed on the light‐outcoupling substrate show a high CRI of 85 and higher efficacy of 65 lm/W with a fairly good half‐decay lifetime of over 30,000 hours. With a further voltage reduction and a high‐index spherical extractor, 128 lm/W at 1000 cd/m2 has been achieved.  相似文献

Abstract— Highly efficient tandem white OLEDs based on fluorescent materials were developed for display and solid‐state‐lighting (SSL) applications. In both cases, the white OLED must have high power efficiency and long lifetime, but there are a number of attributes unique to each application that also must be considered. Tandem OLED technology has been demonstrated as an effective approach to increase luminance, extend OLED lifetime, and allow for use of different emitters in the individual stacks for tuning the emission spectrum to achieve desired performance. Here, examples of bottom‐emission tandem white OLEDs based on small‐molecule fluorescent emitters designed for displays and for SSL applications are reported. A two‐stack tandem white OLED designed for display applications achieved 36.5‐cd/A luminance efficiency, 8500K color temperature, and lifetime estimated to exceed 50,000 hours at 1000 cd/m2. This performance is expected to meet the specifications for large AMOLED displays. A two‐stack tandem white OLED designed for SSL applications achieved 20‐lm/W power efficiency, 38‐cd/A luminance efficiency, 3500K color temperature, and lifetime estimated to exceed 140,000 hours at 1000 cd/m2. With the use of proven light‐extraction techniques, it is estimated that this tandem device will exceed 40 lm/W with more than 500,000‐hour lifetime, performance that should be sufficient for first‐generation lighting products.  相似文献

Abstract— This paper presents a new optical system used in an ultra‐thin rear projector with a 1500‐mm diagonal size and 260‐mm depth. A refractive‐reflective optical system was developed to achieve a large projection angle of 136° with a small optical distortion of 0.1%. The optics consists of a convex aspherical mirror and a refractive lens. In addition, a new Fresnel screen composed of hybrid blades of refractive‐TIR (total internal reflection) elements was developed to attain good uniformity of brightness and color within the image area.  相似文献

The performance of two 4‐in. color PDP test panels with a default and a high‐Xe‐concentration gas mixture will be discussed. The default panel with a gas mixture of 3.5% Xe in Ne and a filling pressure of 665 hPa was compared with a panel containing a gas mixture of 13.5% Xe in Ne and a filling pressure of 800 hPa. The panels contain a green phosphor, YBO3:Tb, which showed less saturation at high UV load compared with a Willemite phosphor. The panel performance was compared in addressed conditions. For the default panel, a white luminance of 710 cd/m2 and an efficacy of 1.6 lm/W was found, while for the high‐Xe‐partial‐pressure panel, a white luminance of 2010 cd/m2 and an efficacy of 3.8 lm/W was realized. The increase of the driving voltages, about 20–30 V, is moderate. Finally, color saturation is improved at high Xe partial pressure.  相似文献

Abstract— A new approach to full‐color printable phosphorescent organic light‐emitting devices (P2OLEDs) is reported. Unlike conventional solution‐processed OLEDs that contain conjugated polymers in the emissive layer, the P2OLED's emissive layer consists of small‐molecule materials. A red P2OLED that exhibits a luminous efficiency of 11.6 cd/A and a projected lifetime of 100,000 hours from an initial luminance of 500 cd/m2, a green P2OLED with a luminous efficiency of 34 cd/A and a projected lifetime of 63,000 hours from an initial luminance of 1000 cd/m2, a light‐blue P2OLED with a luminous efficiency of 19 cd/A and a projected lifetime 6000 hours from an initial luminance of 500 cd/m2, and a blue P2OLED with a luminous efficiency of 6.2 cd/A and a projected lifetime of 1000 hours from an initial luminance of 500 cd/m2 is presented.  相似文献

We have developed an 18‐in. 287 × 359‐mm flat fluorescent lamp (FFL) that uses a xenon dielectric barrier discharge and analyzed its electro‐optical characteristics. The surface luminance of the lamp having a diffuser sheet thickness of 3 mm was 5600 cd/m2 and the luminance uniformity was 92% at an applied voltage of 950 Vrms. The luminous efficacy of the FFL was 24.5 lm/W for a luminance of 4200 cd/m2 when driven by a sine‐wave voltage.  相似文献

Abstract— The fabrication technique for color OLED panels by means of wettability‐controllable hole‐injection material (HIM) and a photocatalytic lithography method achieves both precise ink‐jet printing and long‐lifetime devices. The technique enables us to selectively change the non‐wetting surface of a hole‐injection layer (HIL) of metal‐oxide nanoparticles (MONPs) into a wetting surface without damage to the device performance. Wetting patterns formed by this method with photocatalyst‐coated photomasks made it possible to print emission material with patterns of precisely 98‐μm widths on the hole‐injection layer. A fluorescent green‐emitting device fabricated with an HIM of MONPs by the photocatalytic treatment exhibited a long lifetime of 365 hours at30,000 cd/m2, which can be extrapolated to a lifetime of more than 110,000 hours at 1000 cd/m2, assuming an acceleration coefficient of 1.7. A two‐color device and a monochrome passive‐matrix panel were also successfully fabricated. The two‐color device emitted light without the mixing of colors. The monochrome panel displayed alphabetical characters with good uniformity and no flaws.  相似文献

Abstract— A new green EL phosphor with excellent brightness, efficiency, and color saturation was developed. This phosphor is based on the europium‐activated calcium thioaluminate materials system. The performance of this phosphor is greatly enhanced by the addition of Gd as a co‐dopant. Similarly, the addition of ZnS layers on the top and bottom of the phosphor film improved the device luminance considerably. The luminance of the EL devices can be as high as 1700 cd/m2 with CIE color coordinates (0.190, 0.645) which were tested by using 32‐μsec‐wide square pulses with a frequency of 120 Hz. The device efficiency was over 2 lm/W.  相似文献

Abstract— An array of WRGB (white, red, green, and blue) LEDs used as a spot‐lighting fixture with zoom capabilities has been developed. The array of WRGB LEDs are packaged inside a light tunnel for color mixing. A zoom lens at the exit of the tunnel projects light through a diffuser film that is used to eliminate the virtual spot phenomenon generated by the light tunnel. Three different position arrangements of the individual WRGB elements in the LED array are discussed, and the optimized arrangement can produce a uniform color light pattern with a 83% optical efficiency when a diffuser film with a 70% transmission haze is used. Through the use of projection zoom lenses, the experimental lighting fixture has a selectable illumination full angle from 20 to 60° with 6000‐lm output and 20.97 lm/W of power consumption, enabling its use in many outdoor commercial lighting applications such as a concert or highlighting a building exterior.  相似文献

Abstract— Microdisplays, whether they are of the liquid‐crystal‐on‐silicon (LCOS) or organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) type, have been, up until now, mainly used in multimedia applications or head‐mounted displays. Due to their interesting possibilities, these displays open more and more alternative applications; for example, in optical metrology. Projection lenses for this application area need to be specially designed because the requirements on these systems differ completely from those for multimedia applications. The lenses must have very low geometrical image distortion and they have to be adapted to small objects and/or image distances. On the other hand, they often work with light sources with small spectral bandwidths; consequently, they do not need to be corrected for chromatic aberrations. In addition, the numerical aperture has to be large enough to collect and transfer as much light as possible, but also the size of the projection lens has to be as small as possible to ensure compact measurement systems. All these requirements lead to a compromise in optical lens design. Three optical system designs and realizations — one with an OLED microdisplay and two with an LCOS microdisplay — are presented.  相似文献

Abstract— A novel method for the fabrication of ink‐jet‐printed organic light‐emitting‐diode devices is discussed. Unlike previously reported solution‐processed OLED devices, the emissive layer of OLED devices reported here does not contain polymeric materials. The emission of the ink‐jet‐printed P2OLED (IJ‐P2OLED) device is demonstrated for the first time. It shows good color and uniform emission although it uses small‐molecule solution. Ink‐jet‐printed green P2OLED devices possess a high luminous efficiency of 22 cd/A at 2000 cd/m2 and is based on phosphorescent emission. The latest solution‐processed phosphorescent OLED performance by spin‐coating is disclosed. The red P2OLED exhibits a projected LT50 of >53,000 hours with a luminous efficiency of 9 cd/A at 500 cd/m2. The green P2OLED shows a projected LT50 of >52,000 hours with a luminous efficiency of 35 cd/A at 1000 cd/m2. Also discussed is a newly developed sky‐blue P2OLED with a projected LT50 of >3000 hour and a luminous efficiency of 18 cd/A at 500 cd/m2.  相似文献

Abstract— Using nano‐emissive display (NED) technology, Motorola labs has successfully developed 5‐in. full‐color display prototypes. Carbon‐nanotube‐based field‐emission displays with a pixel size of 0.726 mm for a 42‐in. HDTV exhibit video image quality comparable to CRT displays and demonstrate a luminance of 350 cd/m2. These novel low‐drive‐voltage NEDs take advantage of selective growth of CNTs to obtain the desired electron‐emission performance while maintaining inexpensive manufacturing due to a simple self‐focusing and self‐regulating planar structure. Improved video image quality and color purity are achieved with very low power consumption and without the need for an expensive focusing grid.  相似文献

Abstract— A novel laser‐light‐source projector having the three outstanding features of high brightness, ultra‐short throw distance, and high color reproduction has been developed. These features have recently come to be required in the high‐end projector market. The technologies for the laser‐light‐source projectors fully utilize the advantages of lasers, such as high luminance, small étendue, and high color purity. By integrating a triple‐rod illumination system with a multi‐laser light source and an ultra‐wide‐angle projection system, the developed high‐efficiency optical system has achieved a brightness of 7000 lm and a throw ratio of 0.28 with an image size of 100–150 in. Another new technology, laser color processing (LCP), has offered vivid color reproduction which has a color gamut that is up to 180% wider than the BT.709 standard without appearing unnaturally colored. Furthermore, a speckle suppression effect produced by the multi‐laser light source has been demonstrated. In this paper, an overview of these newly developed technologies that are used in the novel laser‐light‐source projector is presented, and solutions to the issues of speckle noise and safety are presented.  相似文献

Abstract— Projection systems have found widespread use in conference rooms and other professional applications during the last decade and are now entering the home‐TV market with considerable pace. Projectors as small as about one liter are nowadays able to deliver a screen flux of several thousand lumens and are, with a system efficacy of more than 10 lm/W, the most‐efficient display system realized today. Because such highly efficient projectors employ microdisplays as light valves, short‐arc lamps are a key component in realizing these properties. The introduction of the UHP‐lamp system by Philips in 1995 can be identified as one of the key enablers for the commercial success of projection systems. The ultra‐high‐performance (UHP) lamp concept features outstanding arc luminance, a well‐suited spectrum, long life, and excellent flux maintenance. For the first time, it combines a very‐high‐pressure mercury‐discharge lamp having an extremely short and stable arc length with a regenerative chemical cycle that keeps the discharge walls free from blackening, leading to lifetimes of over 10,000 hours. In this review, the most important aspects of the UHP concept that enabled its success in the projection market are described, followed by a discussion of some recent additions to the UHP‐product portfolio.  相似文献

Abstract— A new light‐collection optics has been developed that enhances the luminance of projection TV which use lamps as the light source. The conventional optical system consists of an elliptical reflector and a flat‐surface front glass, but these systems cannot sufficiently collect the beams coming from the light source, and they cause loss in the coupling with the light pipe. To solve this problem, we devised a new optical system through a structure of an aspherical reflector and an aspherical front glass. This new optical system concentrates the beams coming from the light source to a smaller point which improves the coupling efficiency. Thus, we have successfully increased the luminance of the projection TV by approximately 10%. This paper reports the design principles of the new optical system and the results of a prototype experiment.  相似文献

Abstract— The trade‐off between PDP efficacy improvement and driving voltages was investigated for several design factors. It was found that for a proper combination of an increased Xe content, cell design, and the use of a TiO2 layer combined with “non‐saturating” phosphors, a large increase in both efficacy and luminance can be realized at moderately increased drive voltages. In a 4‐in. color test panel, a white efficacy of 5 lm/W and a luminance of 5000 cd/m2 was obtained for sustaining at 260 V in addressed condition.  相似文献

Abstract— While arrayed DMD and LCD microdisplays are well‐established approaches for visualization tasks, image‐forming laser scanners are an emerging technology used to build miniaturized projection displays. A directly modulated RGB‐laser module consisting of diode lasers for red and blue and a frequency‐doubled semiconductor laser for green with color combining optics form the light source for the laser scanner have been developed. Subsequent beam‐shaping optics suppresses unwanted stray light and enables optimum illumination of the scanning mirror. The MEMS device features a single scanning mirror oscillating in two directions in resonant mode. This requires appropriate data delivery realized by a custom‐made driving logic, which converts the pixel stream originally arranged in rows and columns to the Lissajous‐like spot trajectory on the screen. Additionally, the increased image brightness at the vertical and horizontal borders of the field of view (FOV) is also compensated by the modulation of laser power. Theoretical investigations of the resulting maximum achievable system transmission are presented. Different systems, such as an extremely miniaturized monochrome projection head with an integrated diode laser and a full‐color projector have been realized. Important problems to be tackled are fast analog modulation of the laser power with high resolution and improved suppression of stray light and speckle.  相似文献

This paper proposes a method for combining multiple integral three‐dimensional (3D) images using direct‐view displays to obtain high‐quality results. A multi‐image combining optical system (MICOS) is used to enlarge and combine multiple integral 3D images without gaps. An optical design with a simple lens configuration that does not require a diffuser plate prevents the deterioration in resolution resulting from lens arrangement errors and the diffuser plate. An experiment was performed to compare a previously developed method with the proposed method, and the latter showed a significant improvement in image quality. A method for expanding the effective viewing angle of the proposed optical design was also developed, and its effectiveness was confirmed experimentally. A prototype device of the proposed optical design was constructed using a high‐density organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) panel with 8K resolution and 1058 ppi pixel density to achieve 311 (H) × 175 (V) elemental images, a viewing angle of 20.6° in both the horizontal and vertical directions, and a display size of 9.1 in. In addition, the proposed optical design enabled making device considerably thinner, ie, with a thickness of only 47 mm.  相似文献

To improve PDP performance, we developed an AC‐PDP with the Delta Tri‐Color Arrangement (DelTA) cell structure and arc‐shaped electrodes. The experimental panel has a pixel pitch of 1.08 mm and luminous efficacy of 3 lm/W at a luminance of 200 cd/m2 despite its conventional gas mixture of Ne and Xe (4%) and conventional phosphor set. Moreover, its peak luminance can be greater than 1000 cd/m2. The strong dependence of luminous efficacy on the sustain voltage is also discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Abstract— A high‐performance inorganic electroluminescence (EL) device has been successfully developed by using an EL structure with a thick dielectric layer (TDEL) and sputtered BaAl2S4:Eu blue phosphor. The luminance and efficacy were higher than 2300 cd/m2 and 2.5 lm/W at L60, 120 Hz, respectively. Furthermore, the luminance at L60, 1.2 kHz was more than 23,000 cd/m2. The phosphor layer has a single‐phase and a highly oriented crystalline structure. The phosphor also shows high stability in air. A 34‐in. high‐definition television (HDTV) has been developed by combining a TDEL structure and color‐conversion materials. The panels with an optimized color filter demonstrated a peak luminance of 350 cd/m2, a color gamut of more than 100% NTSC, and a wide viewing angle similar to that of plasma‐display panels. The high reproducibility of the 34‐in. panels using our pilot line has been confirmed.  相似文献
